A30 Lineage OS 16 USB OTG connection problem - Samsung Galaxy A30 Questions & Answers

Hello everyone,
Just installed Lineage OS 16 on my A30. Then I connect a VGA OTG, an USB hub 3.0 OTG. The VGA did not work. The USB hub only worked with storage drive plugged in. I tried to connect a USB network adapter (AWUS036H and AWUS0365ACH), with an app called USB OTG Checker, the phone seems to be able to detect those devices, but not about the working.
Do I need to install some drivers for the phone to work with those external devices?
Thank you.

are you using the lineage GSI ? if so it is a bug that can be fixed by a developer once we actually have custom roms for our device. Try other Gsi from the A2O, you might find one that does not have bugs

Thank you for answering. I use Lineage GSI treble (lineage-16.0-20190910-UNOFFICIAL-treble_arm64_bvN). Just installed stock rom again, but still have problem with the OTG connection (I couldn't switch to "This device" when choosing controlling device, there was only charging signal), although they said the Samsung A30 support OTG.

Currently Chromecast can only use USB OTG for firmware flashing. OTG isn't available in the normal booted state.
So if you're asking whether you can connect a USB hard drive on a USB OTG cable connected to Chromecast for playing/accessing stuff on it, No.
If you're trying to use a USB hard drive for FlashCast ROM/mod flashing, I'm not sure if that will work.
In either case, you need a powered OTG cable, as Chromecast does not provide power on the USB - it expects to receive it there.

Ok but did you mean that its impossible to connect an Hard drive to stream an Video from it with flashing the device or without ok without it wont work i know but with an Custom Rom or root ??
You may be able to enable it with a custom kernel.
But even then you'd need a way for playback. you could start a dlna server but in this case doing that with another device would be the same result.

As @m11kkaa said, it might be possible with a custom kernel, but no custom kernel exists AFAIK, and Chromecast is not like a typical Android device which is easy to modify or do custom development for.
Also, even if you got support, you would need a Chromecast-side app that can access the content, and an Android-side app to browse/control it, which seems like a lot of work when you can already achieve the same functionality via DLNA or storage connected to the casting device, rather than storage connected to Chromecast itself.

OTG & Charging

I want to use my Thea in my car, as a media player. Therefore, I want to connect a USB device (DAC) and charge the phone at the same time. This is possible, but should be supported by the kernel. My Thea on LineageOS 14.1 does not seem to support this. Are there any custom kernels that support OTG plus charging? I haven't been able to find one..
You should ask one of the kernel devs for this device if they can add this feature. Most peoples will connect their Android via BT.
Try a custom kernel, there are plenty of them around here.
Or try this solution:

usb otg not detecting

I'm on lineage os latest release..USB pen drive is not getting detected when I connect via otg..it used to work couple of weeks back..but it's not getting detected now..in USB configurations(developer mode) I changed the configuration to mpt, but still not working..please help
I downloaded oxygen os open beta 13, oos 4.1.7...but still the USB otg does not get detected...what should I do to make it work?..I had connected USB via otg many times in the same phone and it had worked just fine..but now it does not even get detected...I need help..
maybe the problem is not from the software maybe the otg is broken did you try it on another phone?

I tried in other phones..it works..
I don't know about the hardware and stuff..but there is no problem for quick charging and when I connect to computer , it detects and works well..the problem is with the otg alone
Same here. There are periferials that are recognised, but not everything (incl. pendrive) that used to a couple of weeks ago.
I just want to know whether it's a software or hardware issue..
Software side, there is nothing much to try out...
So I guess it's a hardware issue ..
Hmm:
* The cable works with other perferials.
* The perferials work with other hosts.
* The Android host works with other periferials.
* These perferials (couple of them) used to work a couple of weeks ago.
* All that changed seems to be updating Lineage a couple of times.
Not sure I can see your conclusion.
EDIT:
I have to take this back: I have reinstalled stock Android, and still is not working. So there must be indeed something hardware related, I assume.
UPDATE2:
I reinstalled the 8 August version of Lineage, and that one does work!
Probably missing drivers not compiled into the kernel of these ROMs. Try an alternative kernel and see if the device gets detected.

MI A2 Charge Mode Only When Connected to PC

Recently I noticed that my MI A2 couldn't connect to PC in MTP to backup some photos. This didn't happened before because I was successfully flash Havoc OS and did backup photos several times ago.
I also tried to connect my phone while in TWRP but it didn't detected in Windows. I checked Device Manager while trying to connect the phone to PC there is no Android Phone device popped up like usual.
What I have tried:
- Re-flash the ROM (didn't work)
- Change the cable (didn't work even with the original cable included with the phone)
- Change to other PC (didn't work)
- Enable USB debugging (didn't work)
Additional Note:
- MIA2 in HavocOS 2.8 latest build [Android Pie]
- Windows 10 Build 1903 latest update
- Xiaomi Driver is installed as I frequently flashing my phone.
- Somehow Headphone still working using Type-C Adapter to 3.5mm
UPDATE (5/1/2021)
Hi All,
Just want to give you quick update on what happened to my MI A2 at the moment.
After looking for a fix in several month and no solution found at all, I bought a new port connector.
I tried to swapped the port myself but the problem still exist with the new port.
I even tried to use port connector for Redmi 6X (its similar but have a slight different) and yet the problem still there.
My final conclusion that this problem may be located on its mainboard. Now I have change my phone to Mi 9T Pro and put the MI A2 on my desk drawer. The phone still works and charging normally but I can't use it for work because I need it to able connect to PC.
I had the same issue with stock pie, replacing the usb sub-board didn't solve anything, I'm still looking for a solution.

I just noticed this recently. The weird part is the headphone still works using adapter type-C to 3.5mm so I doubt it was physical problem with the port more like software thing.
same too

I suspect it may have something to do with the firmware but I haven't find any solution for this. Hope somebody can give me some suggestion about it.

i got same issue, its after update with build v10.0.13. before that version usb working fine, when i attach usb cable its can show usb option. now its only show grey (all disable). i think its bug in rom
I had this issue as well but after trying other ports it worked for me. The strange thing is that, the previous known failed ports will always not allow me to use MTP after PC reboots.
My PC is a Ryzen build if that of any help. I do not face this issue with my laptop which is an Intel build.

I think it is worth trying to connect USB OTG and see if it works. I am curious about it.
It may also be possible that your ROM or maybe something along the way have made this issue. But hey this is just a guess. I am just as clueless [emoji853]
Maybe i would try
• Flash stock partitions except boot & system
• Format Data
• Revert back to stock (not really a [desirable] solution)

Slightly off-topic, does locking the BL and flash the stock ROM enough for the warranty to be "valid"?
does anybody using custom kernel have this issue ? I'm thinking to flash Hex kernel might solve the issue

Did you already clean your usb port?
You can carefully do that with a toothpick or something.
Sounds a little silly, but really there could be a lot of dirt in there. Resolved many connection and charging issues that way already.

Hi thanks for the suggestion but the port look clean to me. I borrowed my brother Pocophone charger somehow it keeps on off with the charge, but when i used mine its fine
It is not a hardware issue it is a kernel issue...upon boot a "chargeonlymode" file is created in sbin folder... I am a rookie at this but after a month of digging, 2 mia2's and 4 charger modules later, something is focing our phone into chargeonlymode. If i can find the solution I will post it
