Phone crashed after applying wallpaper - ZTE Nubia Z20 Guides, News, & Discussion

Never heard of a this issue before but I recently applied a wallpaper from an app called 'Amoled Wallpapers' and my phone essentially was rendered useless. Screen would not unlock, and it wouldn't even boot. After attempting to reboot 5 times I got into recovery and cleared the cache. No luck. I had to erase all user data and factory reset from recovery and set it all up again from scratch just to get the phone operational again.
This is the exact wallpaper to avoid.

wtf ? Can you try it again ? I once had to delete userdata because of Facebook messenger that crashed my previous phone (Ulephone power 3) but I never got any issue after it

Sounds something like this article

I have found the solution when it happens:
- In TWRP goes to advanced/file manager
- Once there goes to data/system/users/0
- Delete all wallpaper files
- Reboot
Now you will have applied the stock wallpaper but you can use the phone as usually.

Same here, and it is a random thing. It happened with random wallpapers for no reason. A medium user would be desperate. I made a backup just because of this, that's awful.

yeah, now its stuck in the meny with 4 options, choose update package, reboot, power off, but everytime i reboot ror power off it brings me back to the same menu

Stuck at Galaxy S logo & do NOT want to lose data

Today I found my Bell Vibrant (GT-i9000M) with a blank screen and lit up buttons. I had not done anything other than root and lag fix a few weeks ago. Holding the power button brought up the menu to power off but it locked up when I selected power off. I had to pull the battery. Now every time it starts up it sits at the Galaxy S screen for a long time then goes to a blank screen and nothing happens except the buttons light up when I touch it.
I want to know if there is a way to get my data off the internal SD. I have some pictures on there that I do not want to lose. I fear my only option is to wipe the device and factory reset it.
Some help and advice would be greatly appreciated. I have spent the last three hours searching for a solution but I haven't found anything that might work without wiping my data.
Thanks
the data must go if you want to get your phone back
there is no way to repair the phone without losing data
Well the factory reset worked. At least it booted up anyway. I wonder what happened to my phone. It was fine and then I left it on my desk for maybe 20 minutes and all the sudden it is broken. :/
I have the same issue. How do i factory reset from here?

How did you factoyr format it?
Get into recovery mode and do it

Reflashing / Resetting Factory Defaults etc. do NOT touch your Internal SD.
Guys i got the same prob, did factory reset and the problem still remains...what can i do???Black screen, some vibraton, and the buttons lit,but nothing else.Any advices plz??
You all may be suffering from a corrupted /system partition because of the lagfix applied. Read up on http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=9365294#post9365294 to see if that applies.
These are too complicated for me....i tried to do the lagfix, but it had loopback error,so i guessed it didnt do it.I rebooted my phone just to clear the memmory and play a game or something, and never got on again...just stays there vibrating. So i did factory reset and still nothiing.
I have similar problem. i9000 samsung screen appears, then goes blank, and appears again continuous cycle until battery is removed. Animated logo doesn't even start. I cannot seem to enter recovery mode. I can enter download mode (dwn vol, home, and power) and I tried to USB to my computer in download mode to try and pull the pictures off with ADB, but ADB doesn't seem to see the device connected in download mode. Is Odin my next option? Or does that only work with unlocked phones. I was on stock 2.2 that Kies updated for me.
Pleeeeaaase help. My children opening christmas gifts are on the phone and once i get the videos I can just send it off to Bell for full replacement. They have told me that once it gets sent out for repair my pictures will be gone.

[Q] Galaxy S won't boot past animation

Bit of a conundrum here - About an hour and a half ago my phone was working ok, albeit a bit slow.
I tried opening GoSMS, and it kept FCing. Didn't think anything of it, as I had a few memory hungry apps open as well (Angry Birds/Firefox), but rather than mess around with a task manager to kill the offending apps, opted for a soft boot using the power switch.
Upon rebooting the phone completes the boot animation, then at the point it would normally present me with a lockscreen and SIM unlock prompt, the screen goes black. Every 10-15 secs or so the familiar buzz, buzz-buzz-buzz of an app FCing can be felt. The power button is effective only to hold for a soft reboot, and the 3 buttons at the bottom (2 soft, 1 physical) have no effect other than to permanently illuminate the soft keys.
I've tried rebooting with every combination of the SIM card/external SD card removed, with no change.
Any suggestions?
Just remove battery from the phone. Reinsert it after 15 min and boot your device.
I wish you Good Luck !

No luck unfortunately - left it out for half an hour or so, and still nothing (
boot into recovery and do a reset, if that fails, flash thru odin
Boot into recovery and tell us the error you are getting.....sounds like the partition is F'd!

Yup, a factory reset finally worked. I just need to remember to keep a copy of the Titanium Backup apk on the SD card. Install, then restore the TB Pro apk, reset and leave TBP restoring all the apps!
Thanks for your help guys, if someone can mark this as solved, then brilliant )
Roll on CM7!
how to catch the error?
Hi all,
same problem here (when switching the phone on this mornig).
I've already experienced this once and solved via reset, as mentioned before.
I think maybe it's something related to an app (installed some new yesterday evening), and it vould be interesting to understand the reason of this behaviour, so I was wondering how I can get the error (or read a log) to get what's not working properly.
I will have time to investigate in the afternoon, so can you give me any suggestion on how I can look after this (I'm relatively new to android)?
thank you

[SOLVED] Unrooted VZW Moto X Will Not Boot Past Splash Screen

I cannot get my phone to boot. It started when I was installing updates from the Play Store. It suddenly rebooted in the middle and it hasn't made it past the boot animation since.
When I try to turn it on, it will go through the boot animation and then end with the Verizon logo. The screen turns off afterwards. If I leave it alone, it eventually reboots itself again.
I've had this happen a couple times in the past but it always recovered after a couple of reboots.
This is an unrooted phone. The only sideloaded app installed is SwiftKey Beta. It has that latest 4.4.2 update. The battery was ~50% when it rebooted the first time. It's set to use ART runtime. I've tried clearing the cache from the bootloader AND from fastboot. Neither helped. I really don't want to restore to factory defaults if I don't have to. Advice?
SOLVED: My solution in 3rd post.
TL;DR: Reflashed stock system partition. Turned on and plugged in overnight. Hard reboot via holding down power button for 7-10 seconds. YMMV
You mention Unrooted, does that mean you've never used SlapMyMoto/RockMyMoto/etc or MotoWpNoMo?
If so, and you don't mind re-writing your /system partition (putting it back to stock), you can try option 2 or 3 on -> http://mark.cdmaforums.com/MotoX-ReturnToStock.html . Option 2 will definitely not touch your data/apps. Option 3, if you follow EXACTLY will also not touch your data/apps.

Thanks for the reply, Mark.
I actually tried flashing the stock system partition last night shortly after I posted here but it didn't work.
However, I left it plugged in and turned it on once before I went to bed. In the morning, it was still stuck after the boot animation so I held down the power button for about 10 seconds to hard reboot it. I went to brush my teeth and get ready for work and when I came back, the phone had booted up all the way! Reflashing the stock system partition may have helped but I can't be sure.
I've seen this happen before but I think it was after I switched to ART and my sister's Dalvik Moto X doesn't do it. I'll be switching back to Dalvik after this scare.

Art is still "experimental" and not all apps work with Art.. so.. Its best to stick with Dalvik for now.

Constant reboots

I've been facing a weird problem with my G800H since yesterday. The phone will reboot constantly. It will boot into android, I will even be able to open apps, but it will suddenly reboot after a minute or so. I didn't do anything to my phone for it to start doing this. The weirdest part is that the rebooting will happen even if I am in recovery mode (TWRP). Also, the phone will automatically turn on if I take off the battery and put it back in, something that never happened before.
I use stock 6.0.1 (rooted) and TWRP 3.0.
Things I've already tried:
Charging it;
Safe mode (same problem);
Taking off SD card (who knows);
Wipe cache/dalvik (phone restarts before finishing);
Re-install ROM ( Download mode (ODIN) doesn't open, insta-restart after 'press volume up to enter odin').
I really dont want to do a full factory reset, only as a last resort, as i don't even know if it will have time to do so, or even if it will fix it. Does anyone know a way for wiping the cache without having to format it ( takes too long in TWRP so phone restarts before finishing ), or maybe have some other way of entering download mode, maybe with adb, or finding out what went wrong. Any sugestions on what to do or what happened?
I (my wife) have the exact same problem, I bought a new battery which didn't solve the problem.
Also tried a factory reset, didn't help either.
It is a non rooted phone...
Next try is a custom rom, hope it helps...
Install an app that records logs like Logcat, set it in record mode and wait until the phone reboots. Then look through the file, study what happens near the end when the phone turns off. You'll most likely find the cause there.

SM - G780G - Screen flickers

Hi all,
My wife just bought the G780G.
I configured her device using Samsung smart switch, and used it to transfer settings, apps and data from her old S8 (first time I did it, usually I prefer to start a new device from scratch...) .
She says she has an issue with the device - sometimes, while using it, the screen flickers...
I didn't see it exactly and she didn't manage to reproduce it to show me, but she says it happens to her quite a lot.
Anyone familiar with this issue?
Any solution you know of?
Thanks!
long shot, if she uses chrome try updating it and android webview along with it. there was an issue months back where that caused system wide flickering and some apps not to work.

I updated Chrome.
No update was needed for Android web view.
Unfortunately it didn't help.
The issue persisted today...
I suspect 2 things:
1. A firmware update that was done yesterday morning (my wife doesn't remember if she encountered it before, she have the phone for 2 days...)
2. Restoring data using smart switch - it can cause issues? I restored the data from her old S8.
Can it be that some corrupted data was transfered?
I'm thinking of factory reseting her device and let her start from scratch..
What do you think?
before you reset try booting to recovery and clearing cache. if there was an update it could be the cache. if it doesn't help then yeah reset is the next option.

How exactly to boot to recovery?
I tried after watching several YouTube videos but had no luck...
Edit : looks like something is messed up with this phone.
I'm not able to boot into recovery.
Doing this:
Turn off device
Press volume up + power button simultaneously.
As soon as I see the Samsung fe logo - I release the buttons - the phone boots regularly...
Booting this phone to recovery is a bit tricky:
1. Shut down phone and wait for a couple of seconds
2. Connect an USB cable to PC and phone
3. Push and hold louder button
4. Push power button until recovery mode will be shown
I prefer ADB:
ADB DEVICES
ADB REBOOT RECOVERY
I press volume up plus power simultaneously while inserting the connected USB cable.
Thanks guys!
Managed to do it after connecting to my laptop.
Just wiped the cache partition - hope it'll help..
Well unfortunately it didn't help.
The screen still flickers.
I'll factory reset the phone.
Hope it'll help and it's not a hardware issue...
consider also reflashing the current firmware. there's even a way to do that that doesn't involve wiping your apps. using the HOME_CSC file will keep your user data intact. then if that yields no results you can try a factory reset.

Thanks man but I don't know exactly how to do it...
I'll factory reset it and that's it.
Hope it'll solve the issue
I wiped the device yesterday.
Looks like the issue is solved.... No more flickering!
Not a hardware issue
Thanks everyone!
Hope it is not a hardware issue. Because my old s5 and pretty all samsung s5 have screen flickering problem especially in cold weather.
