XiaoMi Mi 8 & Mobvoi TicWatch Pro Wear OS - not working with each other - Xiaomi Mi 8 Questions & Answers

Hi Everyone
I had my XiaoMi Mi 8 since Aug 2018 (brought in China).
My XiaoMi Mi 8 phone is running the original/stock Chinese ROM, with latest updates whenever availiable.
Google Play Store was not availiable when I brought the device, but I have found ways to install Google Apps on it.
I have fully working Gmail/Google Maps/Google Calendar etc on it.
Sept 2019 I brought a Mobvoi TicWatch Pro smart watch that is running Wear OS.
I've tried setting up/linking them but failed.
I've link the phone and watch via Bluetooth
I've download Wear OS app on my Mi 8 which is the app that you need to setup/link the watch and the phone.
I've got to the point where on the phone ask you "Choose which Google Account to copy to your watch", I've select an account, click Next
then the screen is just stuck on that screen that won't go any further (not crashed as the loading blue circle is keep going round)
I have tried many time but it got stuck everytime at this same place.
Since then, to a point I gave up, and tried to setup on an older phone OnePlus 3 (brought in the UK).
The setup went smoothly without any hitch.
I have used the smart watch with OnePlus 3 til today.
It wasn't ideal because OnePlus 3 is an old phone, the battery life is very short now.
And I use smart watch to record my hiking/exercises, which sometime have to be multidays outdoor without charging between.
So, now its Xmas and I have a bit more time to look at this problem.
I wonder if anyone have both Mi 8 and a Wear OS smart watch that experienced problem setting up on it?
I have search a bit on the internet and some says that the Wear OS don't like the phone's Chinese ROM
Would a Global ROM solve this issue?
Any advice/suggestion welcome.
Many Thanks in advance & Merry Xmas
Andy

If no one else is having the same problem
Would flashing a Global ROM solve this kind of problem?
Many Thanks
Andy

Problems with Android Wear and P20 pro

Hi everyone,
is anyone using an Android Wear smartwatch with the P20 Pro? I use an Asus Zenwatch 2 and I have a lot of problems.
Quite simply explained: As soon as the display locks, Google is no longer accessible via the watch. When I dictate by voice, for example, "set the timer to one hour" I get the message "Google is currently unavailable".
As soon as I unlock the display, it works immediately.
In the battery settings, I ignored Wear OS. Google can not be ignored.
Does anyone have the same problem or can help?

Maybe you have to tell your phone not to kill the app when the screen is off?
Skickat från min Pixel 2 XL via Tapatalk
Yes, that can be a solution. But how?
Try going into settings/apps and notifications/apps and find the app you want to have running in the background. You can set all the permissions and enter the battery section there to disable auto management and have it running in the background. Make sure it auto starts too.
I found a solution: Install an old version of Android Wear from the Internet (a version before Wear OS). Then pair the clock and adjust. Then the update to Wear OS can be installed and it works without problems.
Can with me now, of course, an isolated case, which can be fixed by resetting the phone. But for now it works.
i'm using a watch 2 classic with the phone and working perfectly, so it could be down to your watch

I can't believe how many issues I've encountered since Pie update

Hello all,
I have the 960U1 US Unlocked version of the Note 9 I've had since Day 1 release of last August. It's quite the powerhouse of a phone, and has everything of what you want in a smartphone. I was aggravated by how late the Pie update came, but I never expected how many issues came along with that changed the user experience since Oreo. After updating to Pie, I did a factory reset for a clean run but then I ran into these following issues:
Download, installing, and uninstalling apps from the Play store: I've tried to download apps, which get stuck at 99% or 100%, but then just hangs there to not install. Same thing with uninstalling. It'll say uninstall for an abnormally long time.
GPS issues: I travel frequently on weekends. Sometimes I would like to pull up my Google Maps timeline to review where I went and at what times. One weekend, I went out of town 3 hours away from home and yet my timeline showed me saying I stayed all day and night where my Home location is. Map guidance still worked, but it still showed me that my "current location" was still being at home.
Bluetooth Power indicator pop up: This is a recent issue I found that other Samsung users in other forums encountered as well. I have a Sony WI-1000x Bluetooth neckband that does extremely well for all the bells and whistles it does. I've noticed that after I factory reset again after experiencing the previous 2 issues to get them fixed, there is a pop up that keeps appearing every 10 or so seconds that tell me my headset is battery at 100%. I have found no way of disabling that, and I had to unpair/pair my headset as well as clear Bluetooth data in System App settings to try and get rid of it. Good thing it hasn't been doing that after several tries, but now there is another issue with BT.
Bluetooth notification sound output: I've noticed when my BT is connected, I don't hear notifications from my text messaging app, e-mail, Arlo, and social media apps. I've checked to see that my Sound settings are all up and running as it should be. Then I went to try and play a notification sound, and nothing came out of my phone speakers. It only played through the headset itself, and that's an annoyance as I don't wear them all the time in my ear unless I'm using it for phone calls or listening to media. It seems to be an Android Pie issue and I have yet to find a permanent solution as this wasn't an issue before on Oreo. The only workaround I've found is using the SmartThings Audio Output toolbar in the Notifications drop down and select to play Media from my device. The notification sounds work then, and I can still answer calls through my headset. But it's a dumb issue that I have to manually set this whenever I want to go back to listening media.
The Note 9 is a great phone despite the small shortcomings it had before the Pie update. Now it's after the Pie update, all these issues come up and I don't understand what happened in what Samsung did. I'm almost tempted in calling Samsung to ask if my phone just somehow became defective, but I don't want to have something done and they send me some refurbished model when I kept my phone in near mint condition. What are your guys' thoughts about the issues I've had and what solutions would you suggest?

Hey GigaSPX, noting you have a 960U1 US Unlocked, I've been working on this step-by-step for a 960U1:
Confirm These Steps to Downgrade US Unlocked SM-N960U1 from Pie to Oreo
If you decide to go this route, take a look and share your experience.
Thanks for the links and guide tips to downgrade to Oreo, but I enjoy One UI too much to give up on that user experience. I still have my Note 8 and I know it benefited significantly from the pie update to have it last all day unlike before on Oreo.

You're welcome.
Good to know about your Pie experience on your Note 8.

Mi Cloud Backup not working

Since my phone has been updated to Android 10, Mi Cloud Backup has not worked once, either by schedule or by manual operation. It gets to 5% and then hangs, saying "5% Backing Up..." indefinitely until the phone is rebooted.
It's a completely standard phone running MIUI Global 11.0.6 but has been doing this for months on previous software versions. I foolishly deleted the last successful backup in an effort to see if that will resolve the issue but it didn't and now I don't have any backup for this device.
Has anyone else experienced this issue? Or have any suggestions as to how to resolve it? I don't want to perform a factory reset to resolve this issue as the hassle of setting the phone back up from scratch (without a backup to reinstall) is more aggro than the issue I'm trying to resolve.
It's not an issue with my MI account as I have a second MI phone (my old Mi Max 2) that still backs up to Mi Cloud without issue, and I have plenty of cloud space left.
Thanks
I have a similar problem with my Mi Max 3. However, this backup moves to 94% quickly, then sits there for about 20 seconds. It then fails with a message "Connection was interrupted. Try again".
The sync data works for the Gallery, Messaging, Call log, etc, but it always fails with the Home Screen backup.
I am also facing same issue ..I have two mi phones in which same account is there ..in both mobiles it's not working ..one is note 5 pro and one is note 8 pro ..it goes till 99 percent then says connection interruted ..why is this happening ..pls help ..last update is decmber 2020 ..after that it's not happening ...and in my mi max mobile back is taking place ..that is different mi account ..and I have cloud subrciption of 50gb ..pls help and email me if anyone has solution ..thanks guys
Happens to me aswell Mi 9T, any fixes?

Question Has anyone had trouble with Android Auto

I've found that my phone has *the most annoying bug* with Android Auto - AA will work absolutely fine when you connect the phone, but then freezes / stops responding as soon as the phone's screen timeout expires and the phone auto-locks.
AA doesn't freeze, when using the same cable and same car, if I swap the phone to being my OnePlus 8 Pro - which suggests this is definitely a Find X3 Pro issue
(I'm on the 15 firmware, and at the moment can't get it to update, no matter what I do)
@stuclark
I'm on a UK unlocked device and mine won't update either . Still on A15.
That said I tested AA for 2 X 30min trips ( WFH still ) and did NOT have this bug .
I have seen it mentioned in Oppo advert threads on Facebook , they responded each time saying they were aware and working on it . So far I do not put much faith in their updates though.

Thanks for the reply - I guess we'll wait to see what the firmware update brings (I've tried uninstalling and re-installing AA, but that doesn't downgrade me to an older version I can use). I'll have a go on facebook and the ColorOS forums
@stuclark . Probably worth opening ticket on chat / Twitter DM with them so they are aware. The more the better.
Not surprisingly, the answer from Oppo is:
It's an Android Auto bug. It will be fixed when they release a new version. Until then, set the screen to stay on whilst the phone is charging (in developer options)
Yup. Welcome to Oppo.
Seems the bug has been present for the year the X2 has been out. So dont hold your breath on a fix.
For me it worked to shut down the always on display function

Try turning off always on display, worked for me.
Good evening I live in France and I test Android auto because some of you have problems with the application and I wanted to know if it was the same with my X3 pro. I use the app for over an hour and don't notice any worries. Good luck to all
P.S: I'm under the latest oppo update with the A17

Thanks for your answer - Android Auto does indeed seem better under A17 than the previous (UK certainly) A15 release.
It also helps to turn off third party navigation apps, such as Sygic or Waze - these seem to exacerbate the Android Auto issues with this phone (but work perfectly on other devices)
Images on the lock screen, crash the Android Auto. It is an OS problem. Here is what to do, till the problem is solved :
-Go to Settings, Security, Smart Lock and and your car a trusted device. That way you have your phone unlocked while driving and fingerprint disappears.
(You can also remove fingerprint from lock screen by going to Settings, Passwords & Biometrics, Fingerprint, Screen-off unlock and select off, but then you have to wake up your phone before being able to use fingerprint)
-Go to Settings, ..Always-On Display, Always-On Display and disable it. (You can also select Always-On Display with battery saver, which turns off image after some seconds, but on those seconds, the Andriod Auto is crashed)

Waze / Android Auto freezes regularly

Hello everyone.
I was using UleFone Power 3 (Android 7.1.1) with my RCD330+ without any problems (on VW Golf Mk6 2011 year).
However, phone became old and started developing issues, so I was forced to buy new one.
A few weeks ago I purchased Realme GT Master Edition which runs Android 11.
However, now I am having problems since day one with the phone and RCD330+.
When using Waze, the display on RCD completely freezes for 30-40 seconds every 3-5 minutes. You can pass a few intersections with Waze still showing you frozen far behind. Everything is frozen - map, speed display, etc.
After ~30-40 seconds, it unfreezes and is displayed all fine again for next 3-5 minutes where it freezes again and all repeats.
Could anyone please help me toubleshoot where the problem is?
Only the phone has changed, no configuration changes were done in RCD330+, USB cable also remained the same.
RCD330+ firmware version 5614
Android Auto version 7.6.621703-release
Waze release 4.82.5.1
Another question - what's the best tool to use to switch off Bluetooth after device is being disconnected from USB?
Thank you
I'm having the same problem and I managed to reduce a little bit the freezing. And don't know if it'd work for you.
Enable developers options and go almost to the bottom, under applications there's an option called "Limite de procesos en segundo plano" which might be something like "Limit backgroud processes" and set it to MAX 4 instead of Standard.
It helped quite a bit. Please let me know if you find something else.
