Portrait Blur in Photos? - Google Pixel 4 XL Questions & Answers

I'm not sure why but I never received this feature on my 4XL. Is anyone else still missing it?

What do you mean? Did you use portrait mode to take a photo? you can adjust the blur in the photo app

Are you talking about the "blur background" you can add to a photo that wasn't taken in portrait mode? It's gotta be a selfie type pic or a close group shot with a defined background. When you open it on Google Photos and wait a second, you'll get the "Blur background" option to pop up.

Yes, that's what I'm talking about. I'll give your suggestions a try.
Edit: I still can't get it to pop up.

I wonder if it's tied to the new Assistant that requires the use of the stock swipe navigation. I'm using Nova Launcher with the navigation disabled and I'm using Vivid N.G.

Nexus 7 nova launcher video

Is it possible that someone with a n7 can post a video of their nexus 7 using nova launcher, and showing the homescreen rotate? I want to see if the notifications will still work while in landscape.

How do you get nova launcher to rotate? Even after setting "Look and feel -> auto rotate", it doesn't seem to do so.

Thats exactly what I did, also make sure you didn't lock your auto rotate in your notifications (the icon with the to circle arrows with a lock icon next to the setting button and date in your notifications).

@HiddenSanctum and/or @the noan
If either of you could post full resolution shots of the home screen with a light background so I can determine the heights of the nav bar and notification bar in each orientation that would be most appreciated.
@the noan
From your landscape shot it appears the nav bar is 64px high instead of the stock/default 75px high. Did you make any adjustments to the height or did Nova make it that size?
Though I would pitch in

The forum seems to downsize attachments, but fortunately by 50% in this case so getting the pixel size was easy. :good:
The nav bar is 64px high in landscape and 75px high in portrait. I wonder if Nova can be tweaked to have more control over this. The notification bar looks to be 33px in both landscape in portrait, which I expected.
Thanks for the shots!

Which settings? If you mean flash, HDR, grid, etc. It should be on the round bubble with the 3 dot menu which is located on the bottom right of your screen. If you're asking about the camera features like photo sphere, panorama, lens blur (Which is new) etc. You can swipe from the left side of your screen to the right in order to see them.

Buttons on black bar

So a quick question,
Did anyone manage to get a look in to if HTC kept or removed buttons from black bar?
We know on M7 middle button was kept just under HTC logo, so maybe they did similar on M8?

No as then I would have no buttons. Sorry but I buy a big phone for screen size and taking it with buttons is silly for me, especially that there is so much space around screen on M8 left unused. I can live with such buttons on my Nexus tablet but on the phone those two buttons are extra helpful in quick navigation.

Immersion mode works well on my Nexus. I would say such button solution for me is on screens 7 and bigger. On smaller screens if there is no basel Ok otherwise buttons

I am using the gmd auto hide softkeys as well works great. I did go pro so that I could hide the the trigger but we'll worth the extra $ so I don't have a red bar at the bottom of my screen. I didn't bother to look at any other apps that may produce the same result for free but I like to support the devs that make a good app.
Xposed and immersive mode - expanded desktop.
Works fantastic
I got rid of my on screen buttons entirely and solely use PIE. It is fantastic. Adds more screen space and most customizing options as to what you would have on a nav bar. Plus you can set where and when it is accessed. Bought the HTC m8 with the intention of doing this from the beginning.
Sense 6 Toolbox for Xposed Framework has an option to decrease the size of the bar by like half or maybe more.
Edit: This is in the wrong section. Unless, tapatalk is acting funny. But pretty sure wrong section.

There are many apps in the Playstore to edit screenshots. Whether you want to notate or block out info. Simple google search will pull them up. To delete just delete.

Maybe I didn't explain myself well. When I used to own a note 4 and take a screenshot right from notification I can choose to share, edit or delete. But with N6 I have only share option. That said I also had an option after sharing to delete the screenshot without having to go the photo gallery and delete.

Pure Nexus ROM has the delete option that you speak of. However, remember that this is a nexus. It will be stripped of features found on other OEM devices.

Well actually that notification is part of systemui and not the gallery app so changing apps will never alter those shortcuts.
Instead of.clicking the shortcuts, just click the preview of the image. From.there,.click the 3 dot menu to edit or delete. There will also be a share button and further, a quick share showing your most common share location

That's my problem when I click the three dots I don't see an edit option only help, I also cannot see delete from there. Oh so they removed gallery completely then. Makes sense.
You can use Apowersoft Screenshot. It allows you to edit and share the screenshot immediately after taking it.
I realize it's not identical to Samsung.
You have assigned a default app for the app to be launched when you tap screenshot notification. Clear defaults on that app and assign an app that had both edit/share capabilities. Then tap will take you direct to that assigned app. ...and you can share or edit from there

Missing Live Captions Option T-Mobile

I cannot find the Live Captions option of my new Pixel 4 XL from T-Mobile. I checked the sound settings and it's missing.
I'm confused. Is there something I need to do? I don't have any System Updates or App updates. Did T-Mobile disable this on their variant?

Check the accessibility settings. I think you have to turn it on there first.

No luck there. Just checked. All of the guides I see say to go to Sounds in Settings.

Open settings app, then sound. It should be on that page.

Did you purchase yours from T-Mobile? I'm curious if this is T-Mobile's doing.

Thank you for sharing this.
I guess I might have a software issue? I've gone through hoops with a T-Mobile and the only solution we haven't tried yet is a factory reset.

I've got an EE 4XL delivered today and I'm missing it as well.
I have Live Transcribe turned on in accessibility and captions on, and notice when I do this, the Recorder app stays in "Paused" when I try and use it, until I reboot. Seems a bit buggy.

Very odd update I have here. Maybe it'll help.
So the option finally appeared for me an hour ago.
The only thing I did was plug in some USB-C headphones and then saw the option was there after checking again. Not sure if that actually actually made a difference, but I'm just glad it's here now.

Is there an Icon for it when you press the volume button? It's the one on the bottom
