Unable to get the Android 10 update - Nokia 9 PureView Questions & Answers

Hi all,
I am writing from India. I am using a nokia 9 pure view device. I have not gotten the Android 10 update. I am on Android 9, the November security patch.
I am blind so use talkback. I know there is a way of loading the ota update via using adb and the recovery mode. However, in recovery mode, talkback does not work so I am wondering how to get this update.
I have contacted Nokia support without success. The India support did not have any official information on the update and when I contacted Nokia on twitter, I was told to wait as the update would be rolling out in patches. This was in December. I understand that we are up to the first security patch of Android 10 and still no update. I cannot determine if this is a problem with India or something with my phone.
What can I try to get the update?
Pranav

Other than continuously trying to run the Update check manually via System Settings, not sure there could be an alternate solution.
Or, perhaps a fellow Android enthusiast around your area who is familiar with running adb commands may help you out?
Good luck with updating, hope your phone receives it soon.

PL] Thanks for your message. I have been checking since December 6 without success. However, I have extracted a logcat dump after running the manual check for updates via adb. The log is on my blog but I do not see how to paste the link because I am not permitted to do for anti-spam reasons. I'll try below and hopefully someone will be able to put the link together.
techesoterica dot com /wp-content/uploads/2020/01/update01.txt

something that's easy to miss is to make sure you don't have ad blockers running. I had blokada and it interfered with the phone's ability to detect the update.

It's not a problem with your device.
Nokia 9 Pureview in UK and India are not getting their updates delivered on time. Others having the same device are also experiencing this problem.

Hi all,
I have fixed the update issue and am posting the solution here for completeness. I do not think I can post links. The answer is on my blog at techesoterica dot com.
The fix involves using recovery mode to apply two updates manually after which the regular patches show up.

February security update has been issued.

Does it fix A10 issues? Wont upgrade to 10 again unless they are fixed...

Omnia 7 WP7 updates

Hi everyone.
While the first Windows Phone update just showed up randomly, which according to Microsoft is a sort of preliminary update for the Real one which is expected in the first week of March.
Since I have updated my Omnia 7 to version (7008), all my applications and the unlocked states remain unchanged and all the applications that were either downloaded or sideloaded are intact. I must say that the update process took considerable amount of time, which I believe was fairly distributed as the update had to be downloaded, the phone had to backup itself so that the new update could be applied.
While many of you might be reluctant at this stage to try out the (7008) revision, I assure you that there wont be any problems as of yet, this is also to confirm to certain cases where some users in other forums have reported that Samsung devices come up with an error during installation.
I hope that this post shall be encouraging to all who might need reassurance. I shall keep you people posted about my findings on the new updates as they come through.

For those of you who are having problems booting the phone and who are stuck at the boot up logo, there is a fix please follow the link hereunder;

Please update Zune first before updating your handset. Make sure that the phone has sufficient battery life and that Zune is running under administrative privileges.
If the update - for whatever reasons - doesn't apply correctly:
1) Don't worry, you will not lose any data
2) Take a seat and read http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2498092

Many thanks for sharing that mate!
I have made it clear that the update went successfully and that all settings and apps were intact after the update had been applied. Your information is very helpful since there are cases where some people have reported that their devices have been bricked. Additionally, I had also changed my branded 3 UK rom to XENJK1 from samfirmware before updating device so rest assured that JK1 on my Omnia 7 had no problems with updating even though I updated from a different computer while logged in as a guest in Zune.
Microsoft have put this update on hold until they fix a bug that has been bricking some phones hope its fixed soon. I suppose its better to fix this now than when the major update comes out in march

I think the work 'bricking' is abit strong.
There have been reports of the process not completing and the users having to reset the phone to its original state, ok thats still not a nice thing to have todo, but its hardly bricking your device is it.
Got the update a couple of days ago
Before I had heard that it wasn't 'the big one' Got very excited - all went really smoothly and then........ nothing had changed. It was almost like I had just done a reboot.
looking forward to the big one.

Tried several times updating my omnia7. But zune always says that the phone is up to date....?? Any suggestions!
@Omer1982
Try updating Zune first. Make sure that you are connected to internet and whether your phone firmware is 7008 and not 7004. You can check the firmware under phone settings in Zune.

Microsoft has not yet re-released this update - I'm guessing they're still working on the fix that some Samsung owners need to upgrade. Mine gets stuck at 100% on backup (step 7/10), so I'm waiting for that too.
UPDATE—Wed. Mar. 2
Just spotted this on the Windows Phone Team blog - http://windowsteamblog.com/windows_phone/b/windowsphone/archive/2011/02/23/more-answers-about-our-first-software-update.aspx
UPDATE—Wed. Mar. 2
Starting today, we plan to resume rolling out the February update to Samsung phones. Meanwhile, we’re continuing to dispatch the update to other Windows Phone models. As has been the case, the software patch is being sent out on a rolling schedule. You’ll see a message on your phone when it’s available.
During the past week the engineering team has pinpointed and fixed problems that were preventing a small percentage of Windows Phones from installing the February software patch. We apologize again for the delay and continue looking for ways to improve the update process.
Oh, it's just the pre-Update for those that couldn't update their phone before.
Nothing new then...I still hope to see NoDo in a few days.

YEAH me too, right now (today JIG was in my letter box).
I had the T-Mobile 16GB unlocked phone (by the seller).
I think that if you don't have any mobile operator (samsung original firmware) updates are notified as released from Microsoft.
Hi guys,
I have a T-Mobile UK Omnia 7 (unlocked). I have updated my Zune software. Then when I check for updates under Phone settings, it always shows my current version is 7004 and it is up to date.
I am also unable to flash my phone to jk1 since I have a branded Omnia 7.
What should I do now, any suggestions?
Thanks.

[Q] Getting update Notification?

I have windows phone 8 developer account.
i have installed preview for developer app from store.
after configuring app...i went to setting > phone update > check for update.
And i got notification a new update is ready for dowload.
i did not updated...because my data plan is costly...and before download i want to know...what is this update?
is it windows phone 8.1?
* I am using lumia 520 with Lumia black update.
As its latest current update.
So pls some one tell me...what is this new update, i am getting notification for that?
It's one of the many minor updates that get released through the developer preview, not 8.1 yet... It shows you the version of the update, so I think it's logical that if it says 8.0.105xx.xx that it's not 8.1.
You can update over wifi, infact, that's recommended, rather than the mobile network.
There's a confirmation to install the update after downloading it anyhow. Basically, if you see a notification that there's an update you can download, but it doesn't tell you what the update *is*, you can safely approve the download (though you may want to be on WiFi, if you have capped cellular data). Once you have downloaded the update, you'll get another notification telling you what the update is (what gets updated, and to what version) and will have the option to install that update or postpone it. If you choose postpone, it will periodically remind you every day or so.

First of all, you didn't specify what's your current version. So i guess its either GDR2 or GDR3.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Second of all let me tell you about WP8 updates:
GDR2 = Update 2
OS version: 8.0.10327.77 or 8.0.10328.78**
GDR3 = Update 3
OS version: 8.0.10501.127, 8.0.10512.142, 8.0.10517.150, or 8.0.10521.155*
(Source: Windows Phone 8 update history)
----------------------------------------------------------------------
What you got is a GDR3 update, and if you already had the GDR3, thats probably a minor update fixing some targeted issues, so, my suggestion is: Go for it, update it, its safe.
P.S. It will not void your warranty, it's an official OTA update. Unlocking and Rooting will void your warranty.
Oops! Sorry for not mentioning that. Yes I have GDR3 installed and I am using lumia 520
Thanks!

[Q] Is there anyway to update Huawei Acend W1 -u34 To the latest update?

Just a quick question. I've been looking around the internet for this. I just recently recieved a Huawei Acend W1 from Wind Mobile (canada) and the phone is a U-34, and not the usual u00.
The latest I can normally update my phone is 8.0.10211.204, and I was wondering whether there was anyway to update this to it's latest and third update. Is this just a problem for Canada and huawei not supporting the updates? My only problem is that I'm not sure if I'll EVER get the update here, as tbh I don't mind waiting.
Thanks for all and any help,
Edit: I just found this post : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=51656759&postcount=28 and I'm thinking of trying it. Does anyone know if anyone has tried it?

you can try upgrade via Preview for Developers (preview for developers now upgrade to 8.1)
go to http://apps.windowsstore.com/default.htm and sign in with your Live (Microsoft) account which you use on phone. check mailbox on phone and install cert from mail you received from AppStudio
go to Store and install http://windowsphone.com/s?appId=178ac8a1-6519-4a0b-960c-038393741e96. Run after install and activate it.... go to settings - check for update
The problem with that is that my phone is currently at the First update, so even though I have the developer preview downloaded, I can't open it as I need my phone to be at the latest OS.
All I am trying to do or want to do at this point is get my phone from G1 to G2.
I tried both of the guides above, and one gave me a handshake error, and the other a cookie error. Does anyone have any advice, maybe something I'm missing, that might help?
Thanks,
Using that same guide you used (http://forums.wpcentral.com/huawei-ascend-w1/229445-those-who-get-their-w1-market-locked-china.html), try flashing this rom: http://www.mediafire.com/download/l...030.5614.46900.20900_USA-Channel.05011TTC.zip. Supposedly it's a GDR2 ROM but I'm unable to test it because I don't have a u34 version of the phone. One thing to note is when following the guide, run all the qpst applications in administrator mode. You need to be running Windows Vista or above. Also, running it on a virtual machine will not work.
Thanks for the reply, I'll try this when I get home tonight. I've heard that a 32 bit windows 7 is the best OS to try it on. I have a W8 64 bit, do you know if that really makes a difference?

For me it does not work on windows 8.1 64bit, on the other hand it works perfect on windows 7 32 bit. But Microsoft has pulled out the latest update on the W1. They are working on it but so far I am still waiting for the update on the W1. You can follow the status of the updates on the following link : http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/...d-b6a2-fa6df0ba7c58?page=118&tm=1399777042881
There was a chinese forum that used a trick to get update by tricking the w1 by changing it in registry to a nokia device but I can't find the link anymore.
Tbh I'm perfectly fine waiting a couple weeks, but to get to that point I need to get to GSR2, as I'm still stuck with 1 atm. Didn't get a chance to try it last night, but I should be able to find a w7 32 bit pc to test it on.
Thanks for the reply and link to that thread.

[Q] Carrier witholding Firmware from MVNO, am I out of luck? (HTC 8XT)

I am sorry if this is the wrong place or forum.
I have an HTC 8XT on an MVNO of Sprint. Sprint apparently seems to be withholding a firmware update that would allow this phone to update to 8.1, Sprint 8XTs are running 8.1, but not a single 8XT on my MVNO has gotten it yet.
The current firmware I have is 3030.00.10008.651.
According to HTC the latest is 3030.00.31009.651.
I have taken this phone off my MVNO and left it in a drawer for several months hoping that it would roll off whatever database it might be in. I tried to factory reset and then let it update it over wifi (I know Lumias can do that).
It still says no update found. I chatted with an HTC rep online and reading between the lines, he seemed well aware of Sprint's shenanigans. He hinted that ROMS were 'out there' and an updated ROM, even if it weren't the latest, might be enough to trigger an update. I started my Google Fu. Nothing.
Then I read the FAQ in this forum that said if I needed an HTC ROM I was out of luck.
I know enough about flashing and rooting to be dangerous to my phone . This is not my daily phone, but it's frustrating to buy a device that says "ready for 8.1" and then not be able to roam or send MMS. I'm willing to try some warranty voiding behaviors to update it.
All that to say, is there anything else I can try? Again, apologies if this is the wrong forum. I did try a thread search and saw some close topics, but nothing like this.
Thanks
Well, the simple question is "have you tried the Developer Preview program?" because that bypasses the MO gating when your phone gets updated. Developer-unlock your phone (you don't have to sideload anything, the app just checks to see if you're unlocked), install Preview for Developers from the Store (free app from Microsoft), run it, and enable the installation of preview releases. That *should* let your phone get any relevant updates.
If that doesn't work, then I can't help you any further; I'm not a ROM guy.

Thanks for your reply.
I have been enrolled in the Developer Preview and have never gotten an update on this phone. I think I got this phone shortly after 8.1 was pulled from the DP due to the WiFi issue. Then I read on some Sprint boards that those *with* the Developer Preview were having issues installing the 8.1 when it was rolled out, so I wiped the phone. It has been several weeks since I tried Developer Preview on this phone. I thought it was on to WP10 and it wouldn't help me much.
Still, can't hurt to try to install it one more time, but I am not hopeful.
Thanks again for your time.
Edit: I think in my earlier attempts I missed the registration and unlocking of my phone. Trying that now.
Edit 2: Now it seems that sometime in May, Microsoft shut down the process for unlocking 8.0 phones with SDK
You might try to unlock the phone with the Chinese utility, but I am not sure that developer preview program really checks if your phone is unlocked. Is there a new firmware for your model in navifirm?

Huawei P9 (EE Network) EMUI 5.0 Update non existent?

Good evening all.....
I have already search for this amongst the forums but unfortunately I could not find anything so I am hoping you are able to help.
I currently own a Huawei P9 EVA-L09C440B138 with EMUI 4.1 - Android 6.0 Installed, locked to EE-UK. My partner has the same mobile but with a different network and she received the update to EMUI 5.0, Android 7.0, MONTHS ago. You may or may not have heard, all EE customers with Huawei P9's seem to be suffering from the same problem, and whenever we approach EE we get the same bull**** response "when the update is ready you will be notified", no timescale, nothing.
So my question is, is there a way I can bypass the standard update procedure as I fear I will never get that update, or am I going to have to be patient and wait until further notice.
Any advice would be much appreciated.
Many thanks guys

Thank you very much for this it looks relatively simple to do but would you be able to advise me if I need any preliminary software or if I need to do anything prior to installing this update. Is there a plan B in case there is potential for my phone to be bricked. If I were to in future self this device to a shop would they be able to tell that this was not a genuine update directly from Huawei?

Nothing extra needed.
There's always a plan B, there's several threads on her for recovering a bricked P9.
If you don't tell them, they'll probably never notice.
