AICP
Android Ice Cold Project
AICP is known by everyone as the "Ice Cold Project" that started on a Desire HD years ago (2012) and since then has evolved into a mature ROM with the BEST community that you can find!!!
Until Android Lollipop, the ROM has always been based on AOKP. Unfortunately, since AOKP stopped development (but made a comeback later), we changed our base to CM.
With the re-brand of CM to LineageOS (LOS) we became LineageOS based with some tweaks from AOSP and we are now based on the "Ground Zero Open Source Project" (GZOSP) for Android Pie.
If there are any bugs, either we will sort them out or the GZOSP team, if it concerns their code base. This ROM isn't GZOSP supported, so there is no need to report errors/bugs to them!!
Android 10 is now Pure AOSP! For our pleasure. :victory:
Code:
#include <std_disclaimer.h>
/*
* Your warranty is now void.
*
* We are not responsible for bricked devices, dead SD cards,
* thermonuclear war or you getting fired because the alarm app failed. Please
* do some research if you have any concerns about features included in this ROM
* before flashing it! YOU are choosing to make these modifications and if
* you point the finger at us for messing up your device, we will laugh at you. Hard & a lot.

FAQ:
Q. Do I need to provide a logcat if I'm reporting a bug?
A. If you want it to be fixed faster (or at all) then yes, you should definitely provide a logcat. (Note: Please just link the logcat from your GDrive, Dropbox, etc. and do not post the content here. Thanks.)
Q. How do I get a logcat, what type should I get and more questions that can conveniently be answered by my pre-determined answer?
A1. Read this thoroughly. Also, here's a good app for getting logs: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.tortel.syslog (Root needed).
A2. If you are already rooted, you can use the built-in feature to make a logcat and provide that. Just look into the others section in the AICP Extras main page. <<< This way is the easiest!
The ROM should contain everything you need to enjoy Android 10. You don't need to install any Add-on's, simply download the latest ROM, flash it and go!
If you want the device to run the ROM "rooted", you can flash a root solution of your choice after the ROM zip. We recommend Magisk!
It is STRONGLY recommended to fully wipe your device before flashing if you're coming from a different ROM and please avoid restoring system apps and system data with Titanium Backup as this can cause stability issues that are very hard to debug. Once you're on AICP you can dirty flash new builds without wiping anything, unless stated otherwise!
-----
How to flash for the first time:
(Again: Don't do it if you don't know it!)
If you've got everything nice and backed up:
1. Fastboot -w (not usually necessary, this will wipe data and internal as well as format to ext4 and remove any encryption).
2. Fastboot flash boot "twrp boot.img". Use the F2FS TWRP image linked here - F2FS TWRP Boot). Reboot to recovery (on the phone).
3. In TWRP - wipe System, Data, and Dalvik. OR do a full wipe including Internal Storage, if you want to switch to F2FS and go Decrypted which is Recommended!). You'll have less hassle with dirty flashes later, but your phone may be less secure. Whichever way you look at it, its your decision!
[*]NOTE - Its recommended to format to F2FS file system at this stage before flashing ROM. However, not essential!
[*]Change filesystem: Go into Wipe > select Data > Change Filesystem > F2FS
(I believe encryption won't work if you switch to F2FS, so only do it if you're okay with that).
4. Transfer the ROM zip and the TWRP installer zip to your SDCARD.
5. Flash the ROM zip and the TWRP zip (FYI, flashing a ROM by any method will install to the opposite slot, the TWRP zip patches both slots).
6. Reboot to recovery (Reboot > Recovery), ignoring when it says "No OS Installed" (this will automatically switch slots for you).
7. Back in TWRP - transfer the latest Magisk zip to your SDCARD and flash it. (Magisk always installs to the current slot).
8. Reboot to system. It will fail to boot once because of Magisk, that's normal just let it do its thing.
9. Go through setup.
10. Enjoy the ROM!
NOTE: If coming from AICP Pie it's still recommended to make a FRESH START!
The ROM has GApps built in, so you don't need to flash them! There is no GAppless option.

Thanx bro keep testing

This is the most put together ROM for the essential phone on Android 10 that I have found. Great job. I did see in the list of features that there is supposed to be a one-handed mode I can't seem to find that anywhere. Could someone point that out where to locate it? This ROM works seamlessly with Magisk 20.2 and Viper4Android intalls without having to do a weird workaround to get its drivers going. I do get a notication that my Bluetooth isn't functioning sometimes. I go into TWRP, clean the cache and reboot. The Bluetooth warning goes away and Bluetooth works fine.

Navigation is blank
The rom perfect but i open navigation on Aicp extras is blank. Thank you.

NICE!
Is the Custom Volume Steps feature implemented yet? Saw it on the app, but am not seeing it in the settings

The Screen Off Animation "CRT" (AICPExtras-Animations-Screen off Animation) causes a UI restart. When CRT is selected, each time I push the Power button, I get the boot animation and the start up loading.
Also, here'e the Nav screen pic

Known issue about CRT, look under "Known Issues" in the OP. Its right there.
Thanks for the Navigation screenshot I hadn't seen that, because I have no need to go there.
Currently there are no options for Navigation within AICP Q right now it seems, but you dont really need them. Just go to System - Gestures and everything you need is there, if you want more customization then use a custom Launcher like the one from Post 2. Problem solved. :good:

Thanks! Sorry I missed the CRT known issue.

Thx for the wonderul ROM. One of the best I've ever tried.
I've found 2 issues only:
-Everything is very fluent until scrolling/swiping becomes very slow for moments (seconds). It just comes and goes. It can be noticed when you try to swipe/scroll on the launcher or the notifications panel.
-It happened to me today that after using the gcam you posted for a while (in night mode) at some point the phone started to reboot every time I tried to take a photo. This issue was persistent between reboots and regardless of the camera app being used. The funny thing is that the issue disappeared after a while and then it came back. So looks like the camera needs to "cool off" after taking several pictures in a row.. weird
Again, thanks for the great work

It happens to me as well. Thing is GCam takes a lot of processing power, it also happens on stock if you start taking pictures on low battery. Phone will just die. Don't know if something that can be fixed, could be a problem with GCam itself, or something in the kernel that messes **** up and makes the phone think that it has no battery.
Only fix I could find is using nonHDR photos when phone has 30% or less battery. Non HDR photos look terrible though.

Good to know. Thanks for the tip. However in my case I still had 70% of the battery left, but it could be that I was making a very intensive use of the phone because of the low light mode.. Very strange.

So far I have been liking the ROM a lot except for one big issue: whenever I install magisk, Wifi and Bluetooth are completely disabled. Reinstalling the ROM without it fixes the issue, but now I dont have a rooted phone. Any idea what I'm missing?

I am trying to use the latest stable release which is v20.3
EDIT: I got it working. My mistake was assuming the twrp img I used when first installing the ROM was all I needed, and I did not use the TWRP installer zip from their website. Everything is working now after actually using the installer zip.

FAQ:]
Before using the ROM:
Q. Can I have an ETA for the next build?
A. Yes, just look in the OP to see, if your device is build on a nightly or weekly schedule.
Q. Does this ROM support custom kernels?
A. No. You can still use them (as long as they are LOS based), but discussion should go in the thread of the respective kernel. We don't offer support for bugs you might encounter using them!
Q. Why doesn't this ROM support Xposed?
A. Xposed is a hack that is geared towards AOSP, custom ROM's modify the framework a lot, so Xposed can cause a ton of issues on custom ROM's. Now it might work for you, however it is not to be discussed in this thread, and you should refrain from posting bug reports.
Q. Alright, but I still want to flash Xposed, so which version do I need to install?
A. Xposed is not yet available for nougat (officialy), however there are unofficial versions. You will need to use the version arm64/arm for SDK 25.
Flashing the ROM:
Q. What do I need to know before flashing?
A. Check the install instructions in the first post...
Q. Can the builds be dirty flashed over each other?
A. Yes, however make a nandroid first as there is a chance of getting a bootloop or encountering bugs. Also bugs may only be reported on a clean flash.
Q. How do I dirty flash builds?
A. Wipe System, Cache and ART/Dalvik cache. Flash the ROM, your preferred root solution and reboot. Or you might just use the OTA app to preform that task for you.
Q. How do I flash kernel builds?
A1. Boot into TWRP and go to the install page in TWRP, in the bottom right corner select "install image", select the desired kernel, then select "boot", then swipe to flash, then go back to the install screen and install your root method again if you don't want to loose root, and then reboot.
A2. LOS based kernels sometimes come as a flashable ZIP file too. You can flash them together with a ROM update or separately. Go to the install page in TWRP, choose the kernel zip (or add it to the flash queue right after the ROM zip). Then add your root method to the queue, if you don't want to loose root. Now swipe to flash, clear Cache & ART/Dalvik cache and then reboot.
Using the ROM:
Q. How do I enable software buttons?
A. Settings -> Navigation -> Enable navigation bar. The bar can be configured separately in its settings.
Q I installed a bad theme and now I'm getting a bootloop, how do I fix it?
A In TWRP, flash the substratum rescue zip in the substratum folder on the internal storage.
Q I keep losing root with Magisk, how do I fix it?
A Check this out, if that doesn't work for you ask for help in this thread, read or ask in the Magisk thread on XDA or just flash Magisk again!
Q I'm having issues with WhatsApp, how do I fix it?
A Read this
Q. Do I need to provide a logcat if I'm reporting a bug?
A. If you want it to be fixed faster (or at all) then yes, you should definitely provide a logcat. (Note: Please just link the logcat from your GDrive, Dropbox, etc. and do not post the content here. Thanks.
Q. How do I get a logcat, what type should I get and more questions that can conveniently be answered by my pre-determined answer?
A1. Read this thoroughly. Also, here's a good app for getting logs: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.tortel.syslog
A2. If you are already rooted, you can use the built-in feature to make a logcat and provide that. Just look into the root section in the AICP Extras menu.
The ROM should contain everything you need to enjoy Android Nougat. You don't need to install any Add-Ons, simply download the latest ROM, GApps, flash it and go!
If you want the device to run the ROM "rooted", you can flash a root solution of your choice after the ROM Zipfile.
It is STRONGLY recommended to fully wipe your device before flashing, and if possible avoid restoring system apps and system data with Titanium Backup as this can cause stability issues that are very hard to debug.
If you believe you know what you're doing - then fine, go ahead, but please don't complain if you experience any strange behavior.
How to flash:(Again: Don't do it if you don't know it!)
1. Download the ROM and GApps and transfer them to your device
2. Boot to recovery (TWRP recommended)
3. Wipe system, Cache, data and ART/Dalvik cache
4. Flash ROM Zipfile
5. Flash/Install GApps (optional, needed for e.g. Google Playstore to work)
6. Reboot to system
The ROM has GApps persistance in between dirty flashes, so you only have to flash them once!
The root solution should be flashed together with every OTA update (= ROM Update)!
SuperSU root included:
KERNEL:
The kernel in this ROM follows LAOS source with custom additions from AOSP.
PREREQUISITE FOR OTA:To be able to flash using the buildin OTA app that needs TWRP recovery installed to work.
You can still use LAOS recovery and OTA app, but you will need to download the zip file and flash it manually from within your recovery. Zip gets saved in the "AICP_ota" folder on your internal storage.
Please be sure that you are on the latest TWRP recovery.

Nice! The Gap is probably related to the espresso variant.sh on 7in screen, if you hold device vertical the apps are stretched in recents. Boot animation is rotated 90° also. Gr8 start though, we got plenty of time to straighten everything out. We're on N baby! Haha! ? This means we're up to date bcuz AICP don't merge to O until 2 months probably even longer. :good:
Well, bad news. After using the rom for a while and after one or two reboots, the rom started lagging so much it became unfunctional. I clean flashed it with opengapps again, but the same problem appeared.

Haha! By experience on m7 with N, this ROM will never be as good as MM. Battery life especially. I'll look into ril.
@icxj1 the slowness and unresponsive bug is in lineage14.1 and slim7 too.

Google Apps: INCLUDED!
You tell, please provide logs when requested...
The ROM should contain everything you need to enjoy Android Pie.
How to flash for the first time:
(Again: Don't do it if you don't know it!)
If you've got everything nice and backed up:
1. Fastboot -w (not usually necessary, this will wipe data and internal as well as format to ext4 and remove any encryption).
2. Fastboot flash boot "twrp boot img" (depending on firmware, you'll need different twrp images. If August and prior, use the official one from twrp's website. Otherwise, use the F2FS TWRP image linked here - https://mega.nz/#!ewZTWaJB!xHe-_sV2hdbD6t6YAgeaHBASG5ecIfNqmaNVpqZZtlY).
3. In TWRP - wipe System, Data, and Dalvik.
NOTE - Its recommended to format to F2FS file system at this stage. However, not necessary!
Change filesystem: Go into Wipe > select Data > Change Filesystem > F2FS

-------
The ROM has Gapps build-in, you DO NOT need to flash them. The root solution (Magisk) NEEDS to be flashed after you flash the ROM zip and TWRP zip then reboot recovery to switch slots.

It works on the phone side but will not connect to the car. I can't get it to work on any custom ROM I've tried. Works perfectly on stock every time.

Same here....app runs fine but it never talks to the vehicle and integrates. When I try to force the two to communicate, settings show the attached. It's just never worked and the great devs over on the telegram mata dev channel have mentioned it's a known issue

Yeah it seems to be a known issue with all custom ROMs at the moment.
The same as the OK Google integration.
No fix anywhere yet from what I know. If you NEED those functions I advise to remain on Stock for the time being.
Some Questions about the ROM
Is there a way to adjust the touchscreen settings input response? seems to lag when scrolling
Is VoLTE working? (I have AT&T and works fine on my stock AT&T Samsung S8)
Is wifi calling working? (I have AT&T and works fine on my stock AT&T Samsung S8)
thanks in advance

You tell...
FAQ:
Before using the ROM:
Q. Can I have an ETA for the next build?
A. Yes, just look here to see what day your device is built on.
Q. Does this ROM support custom kernels officially?
A. No. You can still use them, but discussion should go in the thread of the respective kernel. We don't offer support for bugs you might encounter while using them!
Q. Why doesn't this ROM support Xposed?
A. Xposed is a hack that is geared towards AOSP. Custom ROMs modify the framework a lot, so Xposed can cause a ton of issues on custom ROMs. Now it might work for you, however it is not to be discussed in this thread, and you should refrain from posting bug reports.
Q. Alright, but I still want to flash Xposed, so which version do I need to install?
A. Xposed is not yet released for Pie, however you can try to use edxposed .
Flashing the ROM:
Q. What do I need to know before flashing?
A. Check the flashing instructions...
Q. Can the builds be dirty flashed over each other?
A. Yes, however make a nandroid backup first as there is a chance of getting a bootloop or encountering bugs. Also bugs may only be reported on a clean flash.
Q. How do I 'dirty flash' builds?
A. Wipe the System, Cache and ART/Dalvik cache. Flash the ROM, GApps (only needed if you wipe the system), your preferred root solution and reboot. Or just use the OTA app to preform that task for you.
Q. How do I flash kernel builds?
A1. If it's a .img file, boot into TWRP and go to the install page in TWRP, in the bottom right corner select "install image", select the desired kernel, then select "boot" as the destination, then swipe to flash, then go back to the install screen and install your root method again, if you don't want to loose root and reboot.
A2. If it's a flashable ZIP, you can flash it together with a ROM update or separately. Go to the install page in TWRP, choose the kernel zip (or add it to the flash queue right after the ROM zip). Then add your root method to the queue if you don't want to loose root. Now swipe to flash and reboot afterwards.
Using the ROM:
Q. I installed a bad theme and now I'm getting a bootloop, how do I fix it?
A. In TWRP, flash the substratum rescue zip that's in the substratum folder on the internal storage.
Q. I'm having issues with WhatsApp, how do I fix it?
A. Read this
The ROM should contain everything you need to enjoy Android Pie. You don't need to install any Add-ons, simply download the latest ROM and GApps, then follow the flashing instructions and go!
If you want the device to run the ROM "rooted", you can flash a root solution of your choice after the ROM Zipfile.
It is STRONGLY recommended to fully wipe your device before flashing and please avoid restoring system apps and system data with Titanium Backup (or with any backup/restore app) as this can cause stability issues that are very hard to debug, restoring regular apps is fine though.
If you believe you know what you're doing - then fine, go ahead, but please don't complain if you experience any strange behavior.
How to flash for the first time:
(Again: Don't do it if you don't know!)
1. Download the ROM and GApps and transfer them to your device.
2. Boot to recovery (TWRP recommended).
3. Wipe the System, Cache, and Data (you might need to format the data partition!).
4. Flash the ROM Zipfile.
5. Flash the GApps (optional, needed for e.g. Google Playstore to work).
6. Reboot and set up your device, enable developer settings and in them OEM unlock/Advanced reboot/USB tethering.
7. Reboot back into TWRP recovery.
8. Flash the root solution of your choice (optional).
9. Reboot your device.
The procedure may vary from device to device and is a bit different on system updates!
The ROM has GApps persistence in between dirty flashes, so you only have to flash them once!
The root solution can be flashed together with every OTA update (= ROM Update)..
Currently supported Root Solution:
Magisk stable
Magisk versions >= 17.2 don't usually need to be flashed on every dirty flash.
Depending on the device, you may need to flash it every time, unless your maintainer says otherwise, you should be fine.
PREREQUISITE FOR OTA ("Over-The-Air" Updates):
TWRP recovery is needed to be able to flash using the built-in OTA app.
Please make sure that you are on the latest TWRP recovery, keep in mind that this could also be an unofficial version!
On encrypted devices you will have to enter your PIN/password in TWRP before the process starts.

Only experienced for a day, everything works well. Camera works well.
I have been experiencing problems with the internet, it has stopped working, it does not show up in the status bar, but it does not surf, it does not update Facebook, it does not send messages to WhatsApp.
do you need to flash Baseband for d6502 version or is it included in the rom zip?
So far so good.
But I have noticed three problems.
1- voice in WhatsApp. Telegram. Etc.. Is now low and compressed when trying to record voice note. Compared to latest AOSP extended is fixed.
2- when battery goes 5%. There is notification says " battery is 5% or lower "
The problem is. Every time I swipe it. It goes back ....
3- running zanti or nmap scan. Cause device to suddenly reboot. This problem affects all other Pie ROM for our device..
4- sometimes, when screen is locked with password. When I try to unlock it. I have to wait about 2 minutes for the keyboard to appear

i can't put my finger on what sort of apps cause reboots because for me it was Facebook, which we already know does that, and Flud, a torrent client.
maybe it's a thing with apps that use WiFi?

Maybe.
The nmap problem existed since first AOSP nougat. But with updates it got fixed.
And now on Pie it came back..

This might differ on AvB Devices.
Currently supported Root Solution:
Magisk canary
PREREQUISITE FOR OTA ("Over-The-Air" Updates):
TWRP recovery is needed to be able to flash using the built-in OTA app.
Please make sure that you are on the latest TWRP recovery, keep in mind that this could also be an unofficial version!

My Man! Thank you so much for your hard work!!
I was able to flash this using the latest TWRP but my M8 keeps rebooting to the fastboot/hboot screen. How do I boot into the ROM itself? My bootloader is unlocked but it may be old because I haven't used this device in ages.
Thanks!

Hi,
Did you flash Magisk? If so, you need to make sure you use the latest Canary version (linked in the OP). I also recommend using @Captain_Throwback's TWRP from here: https://github.com/CaptainThrowback/android_device_htc_m8/releases rather than the one in the OP as it appears to be newer.
And for GApps you should be able to use the Beta OpenGApps for arm, but make sure you boot into the ROM once first before rebooting to recovery to flash them.
TWP
EDIT: It's also possible you're not on Marshmallow firmware, so make sure you update to that first before trying to flash the ROM.
@The_Walking_Playground Thank you so much for your reply. I have a strong feeling I am not on the latest firmware, so could you please instruct me on how to update to it? I am assuming I'd have to use fastboot in order to flash it? I was able to find an Android zip that has fastboot & adb and terminal works properly from there.
Thanks again!

Hi,
How to update firmware isn't a topic for this thread. If you search around XDA, there should be a thread for updating M8 firmware. All of the information and instructions you need should be there, and if you have any questions, that's where you should ask them.

For those with problems try this gapps, they are working fine for me: open_gapps-arm-10.0-pico-20190928-BETA.zip (94M)
Almost everything is working perfectly for me but i found a couple of issues:
1. The phone and messaging apps don't switch to dark theme
2. Chrome constantly crashes(edge works fine)
3. Please include am or pm on the clock, it's killing me!!!
4. Please separate the ringtone and notification sound that'd be great!!!
Amazing work, still can't believe I'm using Android 10 on this 5 year old phone!!!

With the re-brand of CM to LineageOS (LOS) we became LineageOS based with some tweaks from AOSP and we was based on the "Ground Zero Open Source Project" (GZOSP) for Android Pie.
For Android 10-12 we are now full AOSP-based.

Thanks
Boots fine and is generally snappy . Some flickering occurs when adjusting some settings. The additional settings app also keeps crashing
Thanks for this, I'm so happy you're still doing AICP for this device.
On initial boot everything is snappy, but If I turn off screen then on and unlock, everything gets SUPER laggy and I see a black small rectangle sliding over the recents button making it disappear for a bit - the slowness continues till I reboot, and rebooting systemUI does not fix it. Some info about my device, it is VZW and I don't have a sim card in it, I mostly use the Airplane mode with wifi, in case that has any bearing on this.
Also, setting the long-press for home button to any activity does not overcome the google search function of home long-press - this used to work fine in 16.1.

I can confirm this about the ROM, especially the lagginess and the flickering black rectangle thing after powering off the screen then powering it back on again via the power button.
Tested on a m8wl with a GSM sim inside, LTE works. Didn't try calls or texts.
Deactivate animations in dev settings to get back a bit more snappiness...
Uploaded another build with those glitches fixed.
Enjoy!
I did clean install with and then without gapps - same issues, after screen off then ON, major lagging and black rectangle covering recents button as you swipe for app drawer or panels. I didn't test the home button long-press yet, but the first issue makes it unusable cause I can't turn off screen or else
No, the black rectangles are def. Fixed. Sure you installed 0902 build?

Thanks, @Claymore1297
New build has significant improvements in performance and stability. The lag is significantly reduced, albeit still subtly noticeable when closing and opening apps/ transitioning between screens, even with animation scales all set to 0.
Overall, very much usable

Yes I know... Let's see, if I can do more. But first closing the device with selinux and release officials...
Firstly, I want to say that I have nothing but respect and gratitude towards devs like @Claymore1297 , I wouldn't dream of offending or insulting or posting baseless negative comments about their hard work.
Secondly, I do know how to handle installing and using custom roms and all that goes with that, short of being a dev myself. Yes, I'm using the latest build, no, I am not exaggerating or carelessly throwing out negative comments like "same issues, unusable, black rectangle". I am using the device right now as I write this, and I've flashed this build a few times and tested it multiple times, and there is nothing wrong with my device hardware-wise.
Here is what happens on my M8WL: Fresh install, no gapps, I get to first unlock and everything is perfect, same with a reboot. Then after the first screen off/ON/unlock, it gets laggy - less laggy then with the first build, but still laggy AND battery seems to drain if I leave it with screen off faster than the 16.1 with screen off.
The difference between responsiveness at first screen on after boot and after first lock/unlock, is HUGE still. Even the AICP default live wallpaper that moves as you move your phone, starts to stagger and not move smoothly, especially when you swipe notifications away, or open recents, or even exiting settings will cause a visible lag where the settings icon fills the screen for about half-second, then disappears, then you get stuttering whallpaper motion - while it is tottaly smooth right after a fresh boot - this is the best indicator that there is still some major lag issue.
I DO see the black rectangle, though less often than with first build, I get it when swipe down notifications, then quickly swipe up to close notifications - if I repeat this maybe 2 or 3 times I will see the black rectangle. With first build, I would see the black rectangle all the time if I swiped anything, now with new build I only see it as I described, so that's improved, but not resolved.
I can see that the rectangle is simply a result of lag, it's just a visual artifact popping up as gpu/cpu gets bogged down, not that I would know what to do about it, or the cause , I'm no dev, but its definitelly from the lag - if you can find the thing that causes lag after screen off/on, then I think all problems would go away.
So it still makes the rom overall unusable because I would have to charge it every day even if I'm not using it, and the lag is still too heavy to play a game or run some system intensive app or whatever - so no lag=never turn off screen=unusable because of drain battery too fast, burn my always-on screen, or, turn off/on screen=lag=I wouldn't want to use it, kind of unusable - this is what I mean by that word, not that the rom is so broken that it is tottaly unusable, I never mean that.
I just rebooted right now and have been opening as much stuff as I can as fast as I can: swiping app drawer, home screen, notifications, recents open/close apps - I SEE ABSOLUTELLY NO LAG OR PERFORMANCE PROBLEMS AT ALL. As soon as I turn off screen and back on, then it behaves exactly as described above - the point is, it's something to do with unlocking screen, or coming out of sleep mode or something, and that's about as helpful as my limited knowledge will allow me to be - pretty sad, actually, if I was better, I could look at the logs and maybe help you spot the issue.
Which gapp should I download
