Is it safe to OTA update with Magisk? - ZTE Nubia Z20 Questions & Answers

Hi, my device currently on China ROM v2.20 and rooted with Magisk. Is it safe to OTA update to China ROM v2.21?
When I read about Magisk I found it:
"Magisk works systemless-ly, and it doesn’t modify or alter your system partition. If you want to install a banking application or if you want to install official OTA updates, and much more. You can install the OTA updates without losing the root privileges, and that is everyone need. They don’t need to root again and again."
Anyone dare to try?

Difficulty Rooting Newest RUU

Hello everyone,
I'm having an issue - I wasn't able to flash the newest extracted firmware in the development section so I went ahead and just ran the full RUU. I've been running custom roms for years and I decided that maybe I just wanted to run stock rooted for a while so I unlocked my bootloader again, flashed the most recent TWRP and installed the most recent SuperSU zip.
Unfortunately it does not seem to have rooted my phone. SuperSU is indeed installed in the system folder and it prompts for root permission when I use root apps, but even when I grant permission the apps cannot obtain root access. What happens is it looks like they are going to get root access, the phone slows down a bit for a second, and then I get an error message from the app in question saying that either my phone isn't rooted or that root permission has been denied. If I open SuperSU, it lists all of my root apps with the green hashtag indicating that permission is granted.
Am I correct in assuming that installing SuperSU did not root my phone? If so, is there a way to root without installing a custom rom?
For clarification, this is all on the most recent RUU, software version 6.23.651..10, Lollipop 5.0.2
Thanks in advance.
Which version of SuperSU are you flashing?

Well I'm a dolt, I was using v1.69 but now I see that is a very old version. Going to try 2.46 right now, thanks.
Edit: Same issue on 2.46 :/
For anyone still looking at this thread, I was able to achieve root by flashing the newest SuperSU, version 2.52 which is actually still in beta and therefore not offered if you go to the main portion of the SuperSU website.
SuperSU v2.65 is the current stable offering

How to stop ota update

I am buying a unlocked note8. And I require root as a lot of my apps require it.... and it’s my understanding that I am going to need to stop the ota update in order to achieve root.
Can someone please tell me how to stop the ota update so I can root the device.
Hello,
Curious if are you going to run a custom rom or root and remove apps you don't want?

Which model do you have? Snapdragon?
Generally you can disable the software update using a Package Disabler from the Play Store, or freeze it using Titanium Backup once rooted. Simply turning off the update option in Settings will not work long-term, as it would eventually update anyways. That's why you need to disable or freeze it.
In developers options you can also turn off auto update system. Usually after you root OTA updates won't function anymore anyway after the device status changes to custom. Or does that not apply for US Snapdragons & SamFail?
Can I temporarily disable it just long enough so I can root. Via samfail
Yes, just go in settings - software updates, there change to download updates manually... Job done: nothing will be updated unless you initiate it yourself...
Can update be stopped without root?
Most package disablers are not working, dev option not working.
Have gone back to oreo from pie don't want be forced back onto pie.
I have a rooted Galaxy s10+ with android pie. Doesn't freezing "Software Update" system apps of my android by Titanium Backup make booting problems for my device? Is it safe for me to freeze those apps? I ask because I've heard freezing some system apps like "Device Care" stops the device from booting. As other fellas I get ota update notifications and I wanna get rid of them by freezing those apps.

I am disabling apps with a package disabler for them to still keep updating! So I have gone back to the method of disabling apps via ADB (no root needed this way)
It uninstalls it for the current user, but a factory reset will bring the app back if so needed. You can uninstall the update app with this method, or any other app for that matter. (Just be careful with what you disable)

update android with magisk installed

Hi, I have the Magisk installed.
I would like to know if hiding root to any process you can update the android and not tell me that it is modified

How do I update Magisk

How do I update Magisk? In the main topic it is advised to update Magisk using the Manager but that's not possible. I'm currently having Magisk Manager 6.0.1 with Magisk 17.3 installed. The Manager only asks to update itself to version 6.1. But that version directly crashes on start because there is no backwards compatibility with with Magisk < 18. Therefor I want to update using TWRP. My question is now if I can simply install the new version without uninstalling Magisk? Or do I have to uninstall Magisk first? If the latter, is it enough to restore the original bootloader or do I have to uninstall Magisk completely (and loosing all data in the progress)?
Thanks for your help.
Same question here, somebody please look into this.

Complete Unistall Magisk causes Bootloop [19.3]

Hi Devs, Community and all of Android's guy.
I have a OP5T and I have received the OTA update some weeks ago. I have already installed Magisk Manager by a Year, and in this I saw many updates. I generally delete all modules and the complete Magisk. After that, I update the System with the OTA and then install Magisk again (I also prefer it for a matter of order and cleanliness). Today, I have decided to unistall Magisk but both through the manager and through the file unistaller.zip it fails with a bootloop after the flash.
Has anyone a solution for this problem?
Or Is there a way for this version to install the ota without uninstalling magisk?
Thanks a lot!
