Is my model 5G? - Vivo Nex 3 Questions & Answers

Hi XDA
Yesterday I received the Vivo Nex 3 8Gb, 256Gb Global version and on the settings it says model number 1913, but the phone, and case do not have the 5G logo, like on youtube videos, do I have a 5G version? I bought it thinking it was, at the moment I don't have a 5G plan or coverage, so not a big deal really, but just would like to know what I have in my hands
By the way, really happy with the phone, build quality is amazing, fast, gorgeous screen and those side "buttons" work way better then I expected, really impressed with it. Are you guys still happy with your purchase?
Thank you XDA community =)

Same with me, also dont have any logo, confirmed that model is 5g, apparently only 128GB been just 4G.
Otherwise very happy so far with battery life, finger scanner, build quality. Not so excited with camera low light abilities.

Go to settings/mobile network and see if the option 5G is there...

I also grabbed a 1913 8g/256g and im pretty sure its not the 5g model (in mobile networks there isn't any 5g mode option ) . I however am using on straight talk AT&T sim and this is the best phone i've owned , ticks all the boxes for me !! I wish stereo speakers were on it but the bottom firing speaker is plenty loud and clear for me.

Same, but maybe the 5G option will only show if the SIM has a 5G plan? Maybe? And you're right, best phone I've ever had, the screen is simply amazing and a small thing I've noticed is NFC signal is very strong, most phones I really need to rub it in for Google Pay to work, this one picks up payment about 3cm close to the payment machine, it's a small detail, but it is very convenient for me.

hello hugoprh
Do you still have this device? If so, could you answer a few questions? I would highly appreciate your feedback.
1) Do your side edge/ambient light notifications work for sms/mms? I have heard that there no issues with incoming calls but want to know about sms/mms.
2) Do you have an Android 10 update? or is the device still on Android 9.
3) do you get notifications on the lock screen? If so, are you able to reply directly from them or do you have to unlock first?
4) any issues with group messaging (who is replying to what, who is in the group) in the stock messaging app (or are you using a different app)
Asking as the 1913 is the global version of the 1924 (8/256) China model and has its own specific global rom 1924_F_EX (the F is the global rom identifer)
Thanks!

Hello MIXevo, since you are in the U.S like myself I was wondering if you could chime in on these questions I asked hugoprh (if you still have and are using this device) Thanks!

For 5G model, the mobile and network screen goes like this.
Notifications works after enabling but you cannot reply directly from lockscreen.

do you get volte or vowifi on your global version of the phone in the US , I'm in the US as well but I have the 4g Chinese version and have been having a bunch of issues with calls and such.

VOLTE in US

I was apprehensive to purchase the P30 Pro because I had some troubling experiance with the Mate 20 Pro in the US on T-Mobile with calls and texts. To my surpise I inserted my sim into the P30 Pro and service was great. Even more surprising when I make calls I still have LTE and it connects in 1-2 seconds after dialing. Now I know I dont have a toggle for VOLTE or WIFI calling but keeping data during a call and connecting very fast was never something that happened to me with the Mate 20 Pro. Is anyone else in the US having a similair experiance?

VOLTE is on based on service menu by default. I feel call quality is great with the P30 Pro... I even like the screen as the phone speaker as well. I had the Mate 20 Pro too... didn't have some of the issues you had since I got it later and probably they address most of everything by the time I got it. I do wish T-Mobile would allow WIFI Calling on it... overseas T-Mobile has it enabled... but unfortunately we do not and there's no setting to do so.
Stupid politics to protect Apple is the underlying cause of the whole "Huawei is spying on you for the Chinese Government Conspiracy" Yeah, someone will say there's proof, and I'm like... well, they make great phones and I'm sure no one in China give ZERO F's about my Facebooking, search history, etc. or whatever someone thinks they are spying on... All I know is I hate having to jump through hoops to buy the phones and wish I could just roll down to a best buy or legit on Amazon, buy one and have all the features supported. I mean google, microsoft, apple, etc. all "spy" on their customers... just because I sign an agreement I guess its ok. :silly:
Spying on and telling you in a tiny word 10 page document ok.. :good:
Spying on and not telling you, not ok.. I guess.
I saw some one said intall Tmobile digits in his mate pro 20, then get wifi calling works. However, I cannot got that works on my son's mate 20. I still not make decision to buy p30 pro. Tmobile's signal too weak in my home, I realy on wifi calling too much.

I got poor cell reception here as well so wifi calling helps when using T-Mobile. In Irvine the city does not let telecom providers install Cell Towers so that they force you to buy and pay $100 per moth via COX Cable of which they have a monopoly over. A pretty corrupt city in that sense. If everyone has good reception then people will not pay the extra $100 per month to get internet at their house. The only place you have good coverage is if you live nearby freeway as they are required by law to have cell towers alongside the freeway. Every where in the city you have 1 bar as require by law to make a call in the event of an emergency.

Which version of the phone do you have. Only thing holding me back from buying this phone is knowing whether it has VOLTE support for T-mobile. I can't use the phone without it.

So I started another thread to find out some info from those people with the Canadian variant in the US if there's greater compatibility with TMobile & ATT. What I do know is that the Canadian version VOG-L04 comes in 3 colors: Black, Aurora & Breathing Crystal. You can only get 8GB RAM if you get 256GB storage option. This is also the Latin American Version as well but have not heard anyone getting from mexico or other South / Central American countries yet.
It has Band 66 compatibility making it better especially for ATT folks.
Also, reported but not confirmed with screen captures, etc. is that it is 100% wifi calling enabled. Once again, this is reported but not confirmed. Same would be true for VoLTE
As for the digits workaround, you need to actually use digits app to make calls meaning getting a separate digits number for your phone ($10 per month) and using it to call it through the app connected to wifi. Similar to google voice workaround.

Which Amazon would that be? I may send mine back if wifi calling works on a different version. I currently have the German version and wifi calling is not preset in the setting per se. If use a shortcut maker i do get the option for wifi calling.

Amazon.ca but haven't see the phone available yet... definitely not the L04... With the short cut and it enabled does wifi calling work actually? I don't believe that it provisions even if enabled. VoLTE maybe a different story although I still have to check to see if it isn't on with the network info app. I'm at work so until I'm done I don't have my phone to check anything but will try later..
what shortcut maker do you use?
Still hoping that someone with a L04 can confirm all these items as well!

IDK if it's actually working. I guess I could try to make a call in airplane mode. Quick shortcut. Any of them would probably work.
There is one option that requires elevation. I may try it on my old mate 9 since that is rootable.

I wouldn't trust network cell info for an accurate diagnosis of wifi calling availability. It says its not available to me but it clearly is and works rather well (3 UK network)

To get WiFi calling working on Xiaomi devices you have to enter *#*#86583#*#*
Is there something similar for the Huawei P30 Pro?

My phone arrives tomorrow. Are you happy with the overall coverage you are getting on T-Mobile in the U.S with the P30 Pro?

I am very happy with coverage and quality on my P30 Pro with T-Mo, VOLTE does work as well on mine. I have the amazon.de version VOG-L29 Dual Sim, No issues with Dual sim either. Wifi Calling is something that was always hit or miss with me. I do see the slider die it using shortcut maker but as many overseas phone thats a T-Mo issue not on the phone. Now correct me if I am wrong but isnt the model being sold by B&H the same as the other unlocked versions? Or does software have more bands active?

To my knowledge the B&H photo is your phone. I got the VOG-L09 and it has the exact same bands. It is your phone with a single SIM.

Definitely a TMobile US issue for wifi calling... they just basically need programming in place so when the sim is inserted, it allows provisioning to the Tmobile network. Now they might not be doing this because Huawei is giving them certain information but more likely has to do with Huawei not being sold in the US officially due to the supposed "spying" Applegate.... Not enough Huawei phones in the US otherwise to waste the time to have provisioning built in for the US.
More proof for the pudding... Apple who has been fighting with Qualcomm over whether or not they "stole" technology (doesn't that sound familiar?) agreed to a new contract because there was no other alternative for Apple to get 5G chips for their phones other than Huawei. Doing so would have meant opening Huawei back to the US and being major competition for Apple... so what does Apple do, throw some money around, make their Qualcomm problem go away overnight and still have their foothold on the necks of the US phone market... Trust me, if Xiaomi starts becoming more popular, they'll be the next one accused of spying... all to protect the almighty Apple...
So unless the general dissolution with Huawei stops... really, all smartphone companies and cell providers "spy" on their customers... wifi calling won't be viable... just have to workaround with digits or google voice

Any chance of being Verizon compatible?

I know generally that most unlocked Chineese phones are not Verizon compatible. But, both the OnePlus 6t and 7 pro are even though they are LTE only so I figured there may be a possibility and was curious if anyone actually attempted it.
This seems like the best phone on the market right now, it's almost $200 cheaper than the next snapdragon 855 phone in the US.

Works great on AT&T Prepaid Unlimited, typically for CDMA carriers you need to buy they're approved phones.
I'm actually on Verizon unlimited and had the same questions for them.
I installed my sim card from my previous phone LG v20. And it seems it's using the provisioning from it. All the network info was there. But couldn't seem to get data. So I used shortcut master lite and went to the telephoney part of network settings and had to play with the network settings. Got it to work really well by downloading a network settings app and playing with the band info. It's pretty straight forward and easy to use.
By the way Verizon has no idea what kind of phone I have and it says it's rooted. But it's not. Cloud works great, my Verizon, message+ and anything I throw at it from the Verizon apps. Tech support said that as long as im using my existing sim and have done whatever I did to make it work. Keep doing it. But they have no idea if they are going to setup services and get the info anytime soon.
So I got just what I always wanted.
A nice phone that they can't track or get into it unless I allow them. Perfect
This phone works fine on Verizon, I currently have both the phone and Verizon service. VOLTE works and everything, just no wifi calling
Wow! You all are using the North American Nubia Red Magic 3?
I'm usually on T-Mobile most of the year but during the summer I need Verizon where I go so I didn't consider the RM3. I usually use total wireless or StraightTalk and I've had good luck with slapping their SIM cards into different phones without an issue.
So if you all can tell me the tricks, if any, and which model (US or international) I'll pick one up — sub $500 for S855 and big AMOLED screen!

No band 13, but Verizon also uses bands 4 and 5 which this phone supports. I actually believe band 4 is their main band. I didn't have to do anything but put my SIM card in. Although in the past when I had a OnePlus 6T, I had Verizon provision my line to be LTE only. Don't know if that step is needed for this phone, as it supports CDMA. I'm using the North American version bought directly from Red Magic.

Thanks for the info. Band 13 (700MHz) is Verizon's main band due to its penetration and distance, according to online info, but you are also correct — 2, 4, along with 5 and 66 all work on Verizon. If they put 71 and 13 in this thing it would have everything. So I should be able to get something in most areas.
Good to know I just need to put the SIM in. I can always activate on my old Moto X Pure.
Thanks again!

Please oh knowledgeable one, bestow upon me the settings you used to get the phone to work on Verizon. I popped my SIM in to the phone when i first got it and ZERO issues for weeks. Then recently all the sudden I no longer had any service whatsoever. No matter how much I tried to play with the settings, nothing seems to work. What appp did you use for the network settings to play with the band info? Really don't want to change carriers right now.
Please and thanks in advance :silly:

Well it was easy, phone off , installed the sim card and poof service for about 2 hours and then I had to keep toggling the airplane mode. Until I remembered when my LG V20 stopped getting signal because I had it rooted. Verizon kept trying to kick it off because they don't want rooted phones on there. And also there software constantly tries to update the phone to remove root on you.
Anyways, I m sure you know this part of Verizon. There are many variations of it. But network settings App. All pretty much show the same menu. But LTE only is what you select. And you will constantly have to go back into it and enable the data. The menu looks like this hopefully I can post it but choose LTE only.

So it basically doesn't work because you have to jump through hoops to make it kinda work?
I remember when I sold my Pixel XL, the guy was able to use it right away on Verizon with his sim card.
Did Verizon add more measures to keep people away with unauthorized phones?

Well all I really know is that they say that they just don't have any info about the phone. It has all the bands that work. Except band 13. I haven't rooted it because there still isn't a functional root for it. That setting in the pic I downloaded, theres a switch that says immediate. That's changes to disabled because of the doze function. It's solely for data. I keep mine on lte only. And just have to change it from disabled to immediate. It's kinda a pain in the rear. But. Its a functioning phone on Verizon service that they say doesn't support it. No Verizon apps except cloud and My Verizon. With limited access. It's great as far as I'm concerned. Biggest problem with Verizon. Is Verizon.
But as soon as a functioning root is available and im comfortable I'll root it and enable band 13. I'm pretty sure it's there. Just Verizon won't pay to get the access to the phones. So there's that.
One more thing the OnePlus 7 pro works on Verizon with some GSM function. There support just won't try to do it on the RM3. Other option is you have a second Sim slot. Get you another sim card and that takes care of emergency stuff.
Guess I'll be buying the best gaming phone ever made, the Red Magic 5G next! Sorry Verizon, it's time to move on. Or you can support this baby and make a lot of money.

WiFi calling on ROG 2

As we all know the ROG 1 did not have WiFi calling baked in. Do we know if any of the ROG 2 ROMs will support WiFi calling/VoWiFi in the USA?
That is a significant driver for me as well.
No, wifi call isn't embedded but on the CN rom it comes with voLTE!
Does the International version have WiFi calling?
A lot of folks don't have their hands on this phone yet, especially here in the states. I ordered one a few weeks ago but it hasn't arrived yet. I plan to test out the CN and WW roms both on T-Mobile and see what I can fiddle around with. Keep in mind the indian version will be released Sept 30th. Thats a 8gb/128gb ROG edition (Non-tencent). So that may carry different specs as well, or its rom may enable different features not yet availble on the tencent 128gb version.
I will be getting mine on Wednesday. It's the 12/512 international model I'm assuming.
My order arrives tomorrow. I'll keep this thread and Twitter (heck maybe even YouTube) apprised.
I would also like to know if the international version has wifi callling because ik for sure the NA version doesn't
I just ordered the USA version directly from ASUS. I guess I will answer my own question when I get the phone in the next week or so. If it doesn't have Volte and VoWiFi it's going back... Every phone made now should have this I hope Asus got it right.
It doesn't, spoke to a rep yesterday. Either cancel ur order before it ships or ur returning it
I'd like more info on this, didn't people say on the China model that t mobile worked and wi fi was avail or voLTE? What about att, will that be different. I'm hesitant just to trust an operator they usually don't have a clue. I think the only way we can be sure is to try, I'm even gonna say that Verizon might work, see I have verizon prepaid and my phone uses band 66 and 13 and 2. It never uses CDMA. I checked using network cell info light. But the reason it may not work because the imei numbers don't register the phone, which will allow data but no txt or calls.
Obviously I will prob switch to att prepaid, but we need someone to stick in a Sim and see if it works with WI fi or voLTE.
Am I correct that there are two models? China and then global? The globals are all the same just various memory or space increases right.? Do all the global models have the same bands, like India and USA, just lower ram or space right? We know Chinas bands are wacky..
- Phone is more balanced than the Razer Phone 2.
- Feels very good in the hand. It is large, but not overbearing.
- Fingerprint scanner in-screen works more reliably than the power button one on the Razer Phone 2.
- Screen looks good, but haven't really messed with it because...
- It doesn't appear to support VoLTE or VoWiFI, per https://imgur.com/a/3HCYFzh Phone drops to GPRS when making a call.

The more I see the more I'm starting to think hardware is identical between CN and WW versions have identical hardware (except a few radios) and there are a bunch of things (like volte and wifi calling) that Asus can enable via software. I'm guessing the Asus team shifted focus to Android 10 before all the features and bugs got fixed on 9.
Pretty impressive how many features they crammed in and how stable everything is. I have no idea how updates will be, but the software that is here is excellent with a few minor exceptions (work profiles are buggy, assistant studders in Android auto, gestures randomly stop working after 1-2 days, screen off gestures don't let you toggle flashlight, turning off work profile turns Bluetooth off, probably other things I'm missing).
Navigation gestures are great, screen off gestures are super customizable, battery is unbelievable, speakers are unbelievable, camera is just as good as OnePlus 7 pro (although that's very subjective), screen is gorgeous, no curved edges means you can use tempered glass screen protectors, etc. I'm really enjoying mine!
So, lemme get this straight, they put 3 or 4 wifi antennas in there, but it doesn't have vowifi? RIP rog

I can understand, to an extent. You have to make concessions somewhere, but it's little things like that that are going to keep the average user from buying this. That and the lack of band 71 and voLTE. That's why there will never be any custom support for this. Gamers don't code, android enthusiast's do. And an android enthusiast isn't going to buy such a restrictive device.
There seems to be a WIfi option, but it says not provisioned, can you tell us which carrier you are using?

I can understand no Band 71 to a degree - but then my Razer Phone 2 has it. VoLTE and VoWiFi - esp the latter - make no sense here. Gamers will want to be on WiFi, and most users of this phone will be urban, where signal may suffer indoors. Just odd decision.

Question Samsung ultra 21 Global or US version to purchase for rooting and AT

If I were to buy a Samsung 21 global version for rooting will it work with At&t network out of the box or should I just go for the US version and pay the money to get it unlocked if it is still possible. Also, does any one have any good links to get the global SM-G988b version of phone?
Edit: Accidentally hit enter when editing title.
AT&T has this whole whitelisting of the devices on their network for all features (like WiFi calling) to work. Better to buy a US unlocked variant. In the past, it has been possible to root Samsung US flagship versions.
Ah ok. I never cared about things like WIFI calling. I just wanted to still be able to make phone calls and get internet. Thanks for the info though. I still prefer the Global one if it works in the USA and so just wnateed to know if it will work in the usa.

If you look at the bands, the Exynos S22 is lacking bands 260, 261 (5G mmwave bands) and bands 14,29,30,66 so the coverage won't be good
I have the 998b/ds i just purchased . When it came the card in the package said it wouldnt work on cricket. I went to cricket and called. Ran my imei and was told everything would work fine. Cricket if course is att.
I will be calling today and asking why my coverage is so horrible. I wouldnt have opened the phone if they had told me everything would work.
I am experiencing horrible reception at my home, which is in the mountains. My s20 ultra worked fine and got 5 g up here.
I will report back what i find out. As for now i am disappointed i am not getting 5g at all.
Ok thanks. So looks like USA Version is my best bet.

Question Vivo X Fold VoLTE access in Canada?

I am currently with Fido for my cellular phone service running a old import( 2016), Huawei Honor Note 8, from Toronto, Canada area, and interested in the Vivo X Fold and this Fido support webpage shows that it should work along with Gishan Canada for Fido APN settings for the Vivo X Fold but I am concerned after hearing that the Vivo X Fold VoLTE is not working in Canada from senior forum member Frcraig, despite all of his efforts.
I have read about the Vivo X Fold phone in general to understand about it's issue being a Chinese only ROM and most likely no Global Rom is coming for software ( I currently own and have dealt with this the past 6 years on my Huawei Honor Note 8). I can also live with it's limited multi-tasking (i.e. hardware quality/form factor amazing and hope updates will only improve the multi-tasking in the near future) I also understand that amongst the top foldables in similar full size phone format/foldable format: HUAWEI Mate X2, Vivo X Fold, Oppo Find N, and the Samsung Fold 4 are the only ones at this point (Surface duo 2 is more a two screen device with a distinctive separation/hinge in the middle) that compete with each other. I am not a fan of the narrow front screen of the Samsung fold 4, hence the Vivo X Fold direction.
For the Vivo X Fold I understand from a senior member here on the forum, Frcraig (Thanks so much for all of your efforts and sharing thus so far) that VoLTE on this phone is not available from Canadian carriers, because they did not pay any of the Canadian carriers the VoLTE certification, and the reason why it can't be turned on. Without VoLTE, the phone will drop to 3G if available but because 3G in Canada is going to be phased out starting in Dec 2023 and generally not available in the States, this is a major concern for people interested in this phone if in Canada.
I am hoping that there can be a possible a resolution to this and started this thread to explore possibilities and/or solutions as this is a major concern!
Would like to know if anyone in Canada has been able to get the VoLTE to work/turn on?
I understand that it is greyed out and can't be turned on in the mobile settings- maybe because:
1) it hasn't been certified (Vivo has not paid any of the Canadian carriers the certification fee) even though it works on most bands including 5G in some cases?
2) sim card is not the latest, and therefor can't offer the VoLTE option?
I spoke to a Rogers technician from technical support today, speaking about the above VoLTE issue, the issues that Frcraig is already experiencing with his new Vivo X Fold. We spoke about the phone bands in general should work according to the phone bands it offers. Rogers Technical support, the lady I was speaking to, Stephanie, for over 30 min, had also put the question on their live global message board to see if there was any specific answers, and received mixed answers- i.e. yes and no, and did not have a definitive answer, but 5 points were made:
1) Can not give a guarantee that the phone will work with VoLTE and not aware of this licensing issue
2) Should work as it does have the 4G and LTE bands - make sure you have an updated Sim Card
3) Confirmed that the 3G is going to be removed in the near future (Dec 2023, after speaking to Frcraig)
4) She Suggested to try a BIOS code to switch it on: "*#*#4636#*#*" on the phone dial pad, as it is a universal code to switch that radio on if it is off, or turn off and back on to reset it - I found a video showing this process using the Redmi Note, @ the 5 min time stamp - Note also very important, prior to doing this, the Sim Card in your phone should be relatively new, and if not get yours replaced, so the sim card has that option/ability to use the VoLTE service from the updated current Sim Card hardware
5) Suggest to use Google search term: what to do if volte is not working - for more information
I am also wondering if this phone absolutely does not work with the VoLTE, that maybe after the 2023 3G removal, that Canadian carriers will update/allow at that time, as I understand the phone can work on the VoLTE as it has the 4G and LTE bands on pretty much all the Canadian Carriers.
Hopefully this community forum and interested parties can find a solution to this VoLTE problem, that I am told is an issue,
so those who do have the phone please confirm that you have the latest Sim Card and have tried the steps above
and/or if someone else has work-around solutions... maybe through rooting the phone or something?

I am in Canada interested in getting the Vivo X Fold, but finding out that Canadian carriers (main ones here in Canada: Rogers and Bell) from local XDA Forum on the Vivo X Fold (https://forum.xda-developers.com/f/vivo-x-fold.12651/) do not allow the VoLTE 4G to be turned on here in Canada even though carriers support 4G and LTE bands on your phone.
VoLTE is the major Voice Over LTE 4G communications standard protocol, that allows us in Canada with local carriers to talk on the phone with others.
See forum feedback from XDA member that is in Canada with your Vivo X Fold phone:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...e-fence-as-to-which-one.4473827/post-87216075
for his feedback and efforts to get VoLTE to work, i.e. it is not working!
Is there a reason why the VoLTE 4G is greyed out and can't be turned on, on the Vivo X Fold her in Canada, thereby making voice phone calls not possible on your phone through this standard voice communications protocol?
There are a lot of interested people here for the Vivo X Fold in Canada that want a quality foldable phone and don't want to use the Samsung fold because it is too narrow on the front screen,
but looks like we are forced to get it as it is the only foldable that will work on Canadian carriers! Your phone is the only other possible choice BUT DOESN'T HAVE VOLTE 4G WORKING with any of the carriers here in Canada!
Have confirmed this with Rogers and Bell putting their current Sim Card in, and the option to turn on VoLTE is greyed out, i.e. can't be turned on by either cellular service.
I know T-Mobile in USA, the Vivo X Fold works on their network, but why not at least one carrier in Canada?
(There is talk that Vivo got their phones certified for use with T-Mobile in the USA, but no carriers were certified (paid registration fee so that it works with carrier) in Canada, leaving us Canadians that want to use any of your phones, not able to because the VoLTE can't be turned on in the phones mobile service settings.
Can you tell me why this is not working and/or reason why VoLTE is not able to be turned on?
Is there anything that can be done about this?

For what its worth, you can enable VoNR for stand alone frequencies. in developer settings or with a dialing code. The problem is that while these phones can connect on n78 Stand Alone networks, (3500mhz) the Canadian telecoms have just started using this frequency and it is only in a few major cities. They are also not using Voice Over 5G (VoNR) so even when the n78 band reaches your area, you would have to wait for the carrier to switch their technology for voice calls from VoLTE to VoNR. So far only T-Mobile (in Seattle and Salt Lake City) have turned on VoNR.

So 5G works but VoLTE 4G doesn't! Yeah, I see that band for Rogers, Bell, Telus, Virgin, and Koodo. Do you think that the VoNR may be up by Dec 2023, in large citiy like Toronto... maybe there is light at the end of the tunnel for the Vivo X Fold voice communication then?
I called Rogers and asked that exact question, and they said VoNR (Vo5G) "isn't on the horizon". In the US T-Moblile has switched it on in two test cities - Seattle and Salt Lake. Rogers contracts with Ericsson for their VoLTE and 5G technology, and Ericsson has rolled out VoNR for other clients in other countries - so it is coming, just not soon. I'll cross my fingers it is here before Canada shuts down 3G.
As an aside for those facing the issue of VoLTE not being enabled on this device with Canadian carriers, there is a work around to voice calls dropping to 3G (and therefore no voice calls once 3G is shut down). I subscribed for $10 per month to a Google Voice business account, which gives me a Halifax, Nova Scotia phone number and calls placed with the Google Voice dialing app go out over mobile data, so I can place voice calls via the 5G network. I can't tell the difference between voice quality on VOIP over 5G and regular 3G voice. These calls do consume mobile data (as opposed to unlimited voice minutes) but I ran a log to see how much data these calls were consuming, and for the past 30 days I've used Google Voice for 1,800 minutes (30 hours of talking!) used just over 1 GB of mobile data. On my 80 GB monthly plan I don't know how I could ever exceed that even if I let my wife talk on the phone : )

To clarify though, for my understanding, the Vivo X Fold and other Vivo's for that matter for the most part depending on bands and the carriers here, will generally work on the 4G and LTE, and 5G if available, but not on the VoLTE 4G (which is voice over the 4G and LTE as a communication protocol for regular standard voice phone calls... but because Vivio didn't certify/pay any of the Canadian carriers, the sim cards will not allow you to turn it on and/or allow you to use it even though it is just a software switch as the phone could work as it does with other carriers such as T-Mobile in the States. - Hopefully I am correct so far....
So, the next question based on what you mentioned about the Vo5G.... would that not also required Vivo to have certified/pay the carriers upfront to use that communication protocol through the sim card when it becomes available (voice over 5G), as some of the carriers offering the 5G Bands with the Vivo X Fold are already running off the 5G for Data.
To have voice over 5G (Vo5G), isn't it similar to VoLTE 4G's lack of certification/payment to the carrier from Vivo, i.e. if they didn't pay for VoLTE 4G, then they surely didn't pay for Vo5G also, right?
Using subscription VOIP over 5G as a monthly cost is a great idea and patches this problem of the voice calling when 3G is dropped with and added cost to your phone service. As you mentioned all of those calls equate to a small amount of your data which is good... so an option that allows you to pay a little extra to have a call service better than Skype is a way-out, to still have phone service if you have a Vivo and no 3G for here in Canada.
Side note, I use a VOIP service when I got rid of my Bell landline for the house, which looks like it can be also linked to a "softphone" that I am already paying for, so there is that...
I never bothered to set-up on my phone, as I use the cellular service for my voice calls.
LOL, you have me thinking here, maybe the Vivo X Fold may be still be a possibility... if I could live with this... on the fence with both, Ugh... Samsung Fold 4 revile and pre-orders start Wed... I know you already suggested the Samsung as your choice now that you know about this VoLTE... just that the Vivo's front screen improved width, quality material/feel is a big weight with the tradeoff being no s-pen, better software-multi-tasking/apps... oh and working VoLTE for this side of the earth...
if I went with Samsung, I probably get their new ear buds and watch also as I don't have either. I think I am going to the store again and look at the Samsung Fold 3 in my hands again... every time I have, it is just so narrow and I am so use to my quality phone with the 7" screen, I have used since 2016.

VoLTE options only appear by virtue of the carrier check and SIM, however Vivo has chosen to include VoNR options in the firmware that are not carrier check and SIM dependent. There is a switch in Developer Settings (which can also be activated with a dialing code) that enables VoNR.

Just to complicate your purchase decision, several tech industry leaks in the past two days have suggested Vivo will release a new foldable (being dubbed "Vivo X Fold S" by Gizbchina). One Indian source said it may launch in the next few weeks and include a global version with FunTouch firmware.

Oh man, I confirmed with a search, one on Aug 8 & 9, you're right on the ball with this. Bigfire member on another thread here, was asking about this very thing.
You know, I was testing out a Fold 3 again today, thinking to my demise that this is most likely going to be the phone I will be reluctantly getting because my phone is really long in the tooth, Samsung has a monopoly here in Canada on the folds, and the fact that Vivo X Fold has the VoLTE issue which I think is a big negative.
Now that you have pointed out this Vivo X Fold S, and reading about the leaked improvements, hmm... two weeks.... I don't know, was intending to pre-order the Fold 4 tomorrow, and now have more questions.
If it is going to have the Funtouch Global version, does this mean that it would likely have VoLTE licensing... you had mentioned earlier that all Vivo phones will not work here because no VoLTE licensing here, with Canadian carriers?
Side note, the Xiami Mix Fold 2 just got teased and is thinner (5.4 vs 6.28 Vivo X fold vs 6.4 Sam Fold 3) and with the flat fold will be a lot thinner than the 14-16 mm of the Sam Fold 3.

on the one hand I am disappointed with the development and I am hoping it's a small spec bump. But if it provides an ease transition between x fold and x fold s (e.g. fun touch installation) it could be very compelling.
I think that project is just for the people who are rooted and BLU to try.

The VoLTE issue on Canadian carriers applies equally to the Origin OS Ocean and Funtouch versions of Vivo Phones. It also applies to Xiaomi phones (they release their new Mix Fold 2 tomorrow) but you can disable carrier checks and enable VoLTE on Xiaomi phones with a dialer code.
This is from Big WhiteDwarf in the comments section to me
"I live in Canada, too. In terms of volte, I unlocked my Xiaomi phone and flashed the xiaomi EU ROM, updated the Google carrier services component, then volte just works. I'm not sure if the Chinese ROM works the same way, but it can be done via software tweaks most likely. But to be honest, I don't really notice much difference with volte on or off and I don't really make calls too much these days. Btw, mix fold 2 won't get the EU ROM."
.... Not sure but you can only do this if you can get access to the bootloader which I understand in recent security update, that is no longer available now.
Finally received a response from vivo Customer Care about the VoLTE on the Vivo X Fold:
"Thank you so much for your email and we are sorry for the delayed reply. According to your email, we are sorry for the inconvenience. We appreciate your interest in purchasing our products. We are very sorry to inform you that our service is not available in Canada. Also like to inform you that, all our handsets have not yet been tested to see if data, Volte, and network service is compatible in another country. However, please note that we are still expanding our overseas market, if there is no official store in your country temporarily, we do not suggest you purchase vivo Phones from other channels since it’s inconvenient for you to repair the phone if is damaged. Also, we can not provide any service for other problems. We are not available in Canada right now but don't worry we are take your dimand as a suggestion and forward it to our concern team. Hope they will work on it and you will understand this fact."
So, for Canadians, no VoLTE is a big issue, and they are straight out saying not to get their phone.
a japanese figured out how to unlock volte in japan. but u have to unlock the bootloader, root and patch an img file with magisk. then again, it's a risk for doing that. and it might not necessarily work in canada.

Thanks for sharing as instructions look promising! Having VoLTE access here in Canada would do two things, allow us to import and use this quality form factor phone in Canada with Canadian carriers as a main driver and therefor give Samsung Z Fold 4 some over-due competition which is badly needed.
There is a rumor that there is a Vivo X Fold S edition coming soon and may have a global rom.... I similar heard that the Oppo Find N Foldable will also will be coming out with a global version, and then there is the sleek thin Mix 2 with its great form factor, although software is ? and not refined as Samsung's.
If anyone in Canada (frcraig, rocky272727....) is willing to try this unlock procedure, please share here so we know if this is a possible fix for the VoLTE. I am sure the appreciation would go a long way, as I was on board with the Vivo X Fold with all of its concerns, but VoLTE is the big one that has stopped me from ordering it and have preordered the Z Fold 4 instead.
Side note: Isn't the bootloader now locked with a recent June security patch, i.e. making it impossible to unlock the bootloader? I understand when it is purchased, Giztop and Wonda both update and add Google on the phone to save customers the pain of trying to start the phone in Chinese which in turn I understand the Bootloader is permanently locked. You could when ordering, tell them not to update and hopefully it is still with the original rom that is unlockable, but not sure.
The Japanese instructions for unlocking the bootloader, rooting with Magisk, and installing the VoLTE enabler module are dated June 26th. If find that date odd. For these instructions to work you would need to have a pre-June version of the firmware, because the June 1st security update removed the unlocking vulnerability that this method relies on. Vivo hasn't added any firmware versions for the Vivo X Note or the Vivo X Fold to its downgrading tool, so if you upgraded (like I did) before using this exploit you are out of luck. The reason I ordered the Xiaomi Mix Fold 2 is that unlike Vivo, Xiaomi allows you to unlock the bootloader, so I will root with Magisk (canary) and install the VoLTE enabler module the Japanese chap used.
