EMUI 10 IS A MUST NEED FOR NOVA 3 & NOVA 3i - Huawei Nova 3 Guides, News, & Discussion

As Huawei officially confirmed that they won't give EMUI 10 for nova 3 and nova 3i, we started signing a petition against their unfair decision as we all know these handsets are quite capable of handling that system...
Link to sign- http://chng.it/JLB8Ty6b

I request all the nova 3 and nova 3i users to stand up against their unfair decision......
http://chng.it/JLB8Ty6b

There are 2 more relevant petitions on Cahange.org for either Nova 3 or Nova 3i.
http://chng.it/xHYfzVtCXm
http://chng.it/5y4BVrw8xk
Please consider to sign both of them if you willing to support Huawei consumers who cares about fair update policy. Thanks :highfive:

This device is terrible, I'm glad my partner bought one and not me. Xiaomi wins out in every way at the same price point.

Google is banning Huawei

They are not "banning them", they are just stopping doing business with them until the US government comes out of their drug-induced state, and reverse course on their recent blacklisting.
This is most likely just Google being forced by the government, which is using this blacklisting as a mean to strong-arm China in their recent trade discussions.
What truly pisses me off is how these schoolyard politics is affecting us non-American.
Time for the world to migrate to another open OS for phone and PC. One country cannot hold the world consumers at ransom this way.
And Google silently complying to US govt. demand while ditching millions of worldwide consumers says a lot.
Didn't this happen to ZTE?
I heard we will still have access to the play store but I assume we won't get future android updates or android 10 when it's out? My p30 Pro is going back and swapping for S10 I think.

I have the same problem right now. Just bought the P30 Pro a few days ago because Huawei promised to bring out Android 10 short time after Googles release. Now it's just guessing if the update will come out or not. If not this devices is already near it's EOL since Huawei doesn't provide boot loader unlock codes...
I hope Google will sort this out and finds a way to still give Huawei access to Android 10, or Huawei must start giving out boot loader unlock codes again so the community can provide future android updates for the devices.
Huawei central

https://www.******************/hongmeng-is-huaweis-first-ever-self-developed-operating-system/amp/
Huawei can still implement future versions of android through the AOSP, as stated in most of the articles discussing the topic. They will not provide access to Google Play services such as the Play Store and 'baked in' apps such as Gmail and Chrome.
I can't foresee the availability of services being affected to an already-approved device, however I don't think it will be positive for a Mate 30 Pro if it is in the works. Likewise I am unsure about whether they would want to release Android 10 if it didn't contain the play services, but as said I think certification is done per-device, not per OS revision.
Update: While future Huawei smartphone plans are in doubt following the restrictions, Google has promised to continue offering security and app updates through its Play Store for existing handsets.
Yeah, but the monthly device patches is an other thing. And what about Android Q? If this damn device could be boot loader unlocked it would be a god sent now.

wonder how this will affect those who have taken out contracts??
not a very good smart phone if stuff dont work on it (maps, youtube, gmail, chrome)
They seem to all be forgetting something. https://www.businessinsider.com/snowden-leaks-timeline-2016-9
I mean, must be me, but I'd much rather own and use (and root) a Huawei phone than a Google one.
Anyone that wants to sell me their P30 Pro Black, please message me. I'll pay you €300 for it.

you know the apks will be out there and available to download and install right onto your device
I'm neither Chinese or American or living in either of these countries - I just want to use my P30 Pro in peace like everybody else.
Why does everything have to be political these days. Nobody wins. I still believe it's because the US is jealous that Apple can't be #1 so they're doing everything they can. Look at OnePlus, Xiaomi and Vivo... they're Chinese companies too.
I think the whole thing is just....ridiculous....I'm in the US and drool over the p30 pro literally almost every day. I really wish the government would just stop with the non-sense and B$. Its silly and does nothing but hurt the companies and end users. This combined with the tariffs is just stupid in my opinion.
Well at this point the statement regarding the bootloader unlock:
"the unlock code application service has ended, as of July 25th 2018, to ensure user experience and safety"
prevents user experience and safety... and this is the perfect time to get Huawei to give us the unlock codes...

Not that easy...
Users will not be able to just side-load APKs for these services because Google prohibits CTS-unverified devices from running its apps. Besides Google apps, all the others that use Google’s APIs, to facilitate log-in, for instance, will also be blocked on smartphones by Huawei and sub-brand Honor.

Still worth buying P30 pro?

Hey guys,
since what happened between Huawei and Google I am wondering if it is still worth buying the P30 Pro.
I have heard of many features like Play Store not working on Huawei devices anymore. Does that count for stock firmware only or on custom roms too?
I was so close on buying the P30 pro but now it seems like the S10+ of Samsung is the better option.
What do you think? Especially the devs in here
Greez, skrippi
I mean the device has the best hardware for my preference, but due to the locked bootlooder updates will also add the the headache of updating. It's preference really whats most important in your phone. I like the better battery, camera and fast charge so i think im going to keep it. You never know, the decision may be reversed anyway.
I just got one and I'm happy. Not a dev, but I like the phone and the hardware. I doubt the worst case scenarios will happen. Worst case I get a new phone next year.
I just got one too best phone i have had ever and i had them all lol the camera zoom will blow your mind haha
Of course it is
Best camera for all scenarios specially night
Best battery life for all usages specially gaming
Smooth operations after the latest updates
Design and colors
speed in everything specially charging
The play store or security updates won't be effected and I am sure they will figure something out in the next month or so
American media just want to make it sound and look bad for only Huawei. While the truth is American companies lost billions of dollars of business as well.
The stupidest decision ever made in recent history
Thank you guys! I will hope they figure out something new with huawei

all current huawei phone including the p30 the honor 20 and the upcoming mate 30 is not affected by the ban google/android already tweeted that and confirmed only future devices is affected by the ban. also just to inform the apps and playstore is the only one that is banned you can still access gmail and maps using the normal browser this is the one thing a lot of people miss and not informed.
Wait, the app store doesn't work on P30 Pro ? How do you install and maintain apps then?
Do you need to look for apks for every single app?
He said ****. Play Store is working as usual.
No P30 Pro treath or forum?

Chances are when Trump finally gets some sort of new trade deal agreed with China, then Huawei restrictions will be dropped?
If not then worst case scenario is Huawei has to push out an OTA to existing models and ship new models with their own OS (based on Android) which is currently in “intensive testing phase” .
Hopefully they willl also develop their own App Store, but if not, there is nothing to stop us downloading apps from apkmirror and install manually.
If it does come to that eventuality, China will no doubt retaliate by banning Apple products (and many other big name US companies) from manufacturing goods in Chinese factories - no cheap labour = higher manufacturing costs .
Also, If I remember correctly, I read somewhere that a large portion of the worlds “rare minerals” are mined in China and are essential for manufacture of almost all high tech goods,
“The Donald” probably won’t care but US consumers won’t enjoy empty shelves or (even) higher prices in Apple stores, etc

Well, the phone's been out only a year so it should get it. Always worrying when you see the manufacturer promising updates for other devices but not yours. Why do they do that? I sold my Moto 5gs because of the lack of updates, so won't be buying them again. Ditto Samsung. Maybe i'll just get Pixel phones in future. I expect more than 12 months support (plus I read that Huawei/Honor were switching to quarterly security updates - we'll see). The Honor Play was very good value for money, and it would be hard to justify devices without SD card slots but I'm really not in the "get a new phone every year or two" game. My chromebook has an EOL date in about 5 years time; why shouldn't my phone, too?
Looking forward to the dark mode, although puzzled that it requires OS support.
With Project Treble and Mainline you'd think that Google are almost at the point where they can roll out OS updates behind the manufacturers backs.
Interestingly, looking at the Android dashboard, which historically has shown Android OS usage, you can see it's been down since May:
https://developer.android.com/about/dashboards
I wonder if this is going to come back in October when they announce the Pixel 4, and they're going to blow everyone away by saying Android 9 adoption has beaten all the other versions?

Probably, the biggest downside of honor and huawei phones is the lack of bootloader unlock codes, which leads to not much developer support. So I'm just always kinda looking out for updates
There is no official confirmation for Honor Play, unlike the Honor 8x or Honor 10 etc. Even if we do get the update, it isn't going to come anytime soon. Check this out: https://www.xda-developers.com/emui-10-android-10-update-timeline-huawei-honor/
The phone is still a massive value for its current price in terms of raw performance. I'm pretty content with it. Despite the quirks of EMUI, I've grown quite attached to it and will prefer it over almost all other android skins except probably full stock android...
Possibly, we might get Android 10 on Honor Play second quarter of next year.
I don't know how much we can trust this picture
But it's highly possible that we can forget about emui 10 for next 4-6 month for sure because emui 9.1 has been rolled out just yet
It is becoming obvious it will take time before Honor Play will receive EMUI 10 (if at all it will receive the update). It is not even on the list of Honor smartphones that will get Android 10 in the future. I am surprised to see Honor 8X included but not Honor Play.

Honor 8x got sales numbers. Honor play didn't
Honestly this is bull****. Why the **** people buy a ugly ass honor 8x with kirin 710 when they can buy a honor play at the same price
It is not getting. Honor service in twitter confirmed that Honor play is going to get next major android 10 updates due to "hardware limitations".
This is particularly strange because Honor play has Kirin 970, the flagship processor of Huawei of 2017-18. It is the same processor of the p20, which is scheduled for the update.
As Honor won't be sending it. Thus I am planing for unlocking bootloader in any way as soon as they push emui 10 update lol

But samsung have changed and now apparently promise 4 years of upgrades. The android one site is out of date and doesn't include the new £99, £129 etc phones nokia have announced which will get 2 years support. Seems funny typing it - like we should feel grateful to get support. It should be 5 years. But yes, huawei/honor aren't getting any more of my money. If you knew the honor play was going to get 1 os upgrade around 14 months after launch and that's it, would you have bought the phone. I wouldn't. Fool me once...

You are welcome to sell your phone and switch to another brand that rolls our updates faster. Also, let us all know when you find one.
Iphones are good for long software updates. Huawei has a lot of issues with maintaining their new HMS since Trump went full child mode because apparently Huawei spies, even tho a lot of american tech (excluding Apple, i guess) spy on us since the dawn of time.
Emui 10 got rolled out in China for p20 pro, not sure if it is beta or not.
I will be switching (possibly) to an Iphone xs max, because i grew tired of software update issues and all. I really hope i don't get any hate because i want to switch to an apple product. Android is great too, but Google likes to ruin in each update

Simple. If you care about bootloader, go to oneplus or any other brand that allows custom roms. If not, stick to Huawei or go to Apple since it's the only brand who respects old devices(reason the price costs a kidney and a half) . Xiaomi counts too but they update their MIUI, not the android version, as well as oneplus too but uhh, not so sure about them yet.
---------- Post added at 05:14 AM ---------- Previous post was at 05:07 AM ----------
Huawei isn't really such a bad company. It's only that they are too lazy to provide after sales support for any sort of device. I get it, Trump issues, Google issues, HMS issues. They should roll out Harmony OS as a beta software from devices that have Kirin 970 and up and let everybody develop apps and all, as well as test the software and allow people to report any sort of bugs. This way, the production of it will be a faster way to finish and polish Harmony OS. Their ego with "We are ready to replace you, Google" just make things worst, to the point where Trump can add a law to restrict all Chinese brands (yes, including Xiaomi and maybe Oneplus) from using Android all together, then everybody would be stuck on Android Q (or lower).
Either way, until Huawei fixes their issues and learns how to coop with the xda community and customers (now they need developers with HMS to develop apps, are we Huawei?), i will stick to Apple's Iphones, because even a 5 years old iphone still gets the latest software ( reason being the services, ofc). This is a lesson to be learned, Huawei. I am not the type of person who cares about bootloader and custom roms, but still, either coop with the community or watch your brand slowly die.

Harmony OS upgrade for P20 Pro in 2022 H1

promised here https://liliputing.com/2021/06/huaweis-3-new-matepad-tablets-run-harmonyos.html
I'm skeptical but that's interesting. I'll have to replace the device anyway this fall (as I need a recent version of Google enterprise services to run on my device) but I suppose it would be nice to have some updates on the P20 Pro if only as a backup device
I already moved on but keeping P20 Pro as backup device (battery replaced). It is very nice form factor, quite light, and camera is still very good even by modern standards. Anyway, will be reading reports of Harmony OS upgrades on P40 with great interest. Not a fan of Huawei UI, but it might be nice to get updates and patches for a 4 year old device
This is good and bad at the same time. On one hand, Huawei has finally adapted a good alternative for android, which means more competition(even if it is a fork). Also we might get Apple-like updates, only time will tell. These updates are opt-in so you are not obligated to use HarmonyOS. On the other hand, you can say goodbye to Google services and any root methods that were possible and not found yet. Huawei"s services are still trash and I fear we won't be able to remove the system apps even with adb. If they pull an ultimatum and allow us to unlock our bootloaders/root our phones.....New OS or not, I am moving to another companies. Maybe Asus/Sony/Xiaomi
Well HarmonyOS really? I don't see a Point Moving to it.. Im more than Happy to use LineageOS 16.0 on it Instead a few Months ago, Well HarmonyOS doesnt Include Google Apps and Kills Root Methods.. well i don't care i will Stick with other Operating Systems on my P20 Pro and will not Go Back to Huawei's Made Software until i will in the Future move to a Different Manufacture (Xiaomi or OnePlus)
In terms of software, I am totally disappointed with Huawei .. also how they Handle the Bootloader Unlock with a code .. Like there is something to hide about EMUI.. sorry but that's ridiculous.
You guys should stop spreading misinformation. P20 Pro came with GMS from the get go. If you upgrade to HarmonyOS on a device that had GMS (officially or LZPlay), GMS will still be totally usable. Even with the final build of HarmonyOS. People already tested this in the betas and final version. Don't believe me? Take a look at this video:

It's the first time I see anyone address the fact Harmony might support GMS. I don't think anyone here was knowingly spreading misinformation, but were rather making reasonable assumptions (I also assumed HarmonyOS wouldn't support GMS, even on my P20). I hope what we see in the video carries over to the final version, it would add a couple of years to the life of the phone
I'm not eager to switch from this totally usable(even great!) phone because of the huge slabs the flagship phones have became in the recent years. I'm not really eager to switch to harmony os either, because of the potential gms problem and integration. The only problem I have is the battery doesn't hold as well as it used to, but that is normal, the phone is 3 years old...
Bottom line, I still love it! It's almost a flawless flagship even today(thinking about changing the battery in their service, but it still lasts me a day)

I agree it's still a serviceable phone, but there are a couple of reasons I will need to jump ship. Lack of a major Android update (we'll be 2 versions behind and my employer doesn't let us keep a phone beyond n-1), and lack of security updates. Locking the bootloader midway through the sales cycle for this phone was a big mistake, it would have been one for the ages.

Seeing as we didn't get Android 11 on this phone, I'd be surprised if they provided Android 12. That would be a first, as far as I can tell.
EMUI 12 (beta for now) for older global devices has been confirmed to be Android 10 - based with some bits of HarmonyOS UI code. Nova 9 has been an exception, as it was released with Android 11 - based EMUI 12.x. I highly doubt we will ever get an updated Android 11 - based EMUI 12 on our older devices, when it gets out of Beta.
