Focus Mode - Scheduling Missing? - Samsung Galaxy A71 Questions & Answers

Having come from an Android One device to the A71 I was pleased to see that Samsung have kept the Android 10 feature "Focus Mode" in the Digital Wellbeing menu. I find this really useful to block distracting apps while at work, and also to block my work email while outside working hours. However, unlike my old phone I can see no way of scheduling this feature to turn on/off at specific times. I would like it to come on in "Me time" mode after my work hours for example, and in "work time" mode during my work hours. does anyone know how to schedule this, as although I can turn it on/off manually it is far less useful without a way to schedule it automatically?
Thanks

Yes, seems to be missing. I am trying to use ActionDash instead now...

I think I have the focus mode.
(Not 100% sure because of translation)

Turn off haptic feedback on fingerprint scanner.

Hi all,
I've just received my Nokia 8 yesterday and I'm impressed so far however one thing is really bugging me.
Does anybody know how to turn off the haptic feedback on the fingerprint scanner when I am waking my device. I can't find the setting anywhere
There's no such one.
Ok fair enough. Thanks

It is, however, one way to turn off the fingerprint scanner vibration; set the phone in battery saving mode and it doesnt vibrate on scan anymore.
Not ideal, I know.
You can stop the vibrations.
Go to Settings -> Sound -> Advanced -> under the heading "Other sounds and vibrations" go to "Vibrate on tap" and turn that off. This will stop the haptic feedback on the 3 buttons at the bottom of the phone.
Also, to stop the haptic feedback if you set your security to enter a pin number for your SIM card, go to Settings -> System -> Languages & input -> Virtual Keyboard -> Gboard -> Preferences -> and turn Vibrate on keypress off. I personally use the Swype keyboard as my main input method but because the SIM security interface pops up before that keyboard is loaded when you boot, you have to change it in the Gboard settings to see the effect.
Hope it helps

I have always had vibrate on tap turned off and the finger print scanner still vibrates when you use it.
I think it's normal, it must somehow notify if the scan went correctly or not. With the screen off, haptic feedback is the only discreet solution. Even my Nexus 5X behaved the same way and did not allow its disabling
I believe their could be away to stop the vibration if we knew the App that it is responsible for fingerprint vibration and turn vibration off in settings of this app.
for example the Nokia 8 vibrate after missed calls, and we can stop that from App notification in settings, so I'm looking to solve this issue the same way.
so any one know which app is responsible for fingerprint reader feed back & vibration ??

Is this a Nokia issue or it's Oreo related?

It works like this always, also on Pixel and Nexus. It's a normal behavior, a way to make the user understand in a discreet way that the scan was successful or not.
I don't understand why you are asking this question as if it were a bug or a lack.

Actually it is a bug, I unlock my smartphone like more than 50 times a day and maybe more, I don't need to get notified by vibration every time I unlock my smartphone.
this is an Android misbehavior.

It isn't a bug, it's the normal behavior. It works like this on any smartphone in the world, have you noticed only now and on this specific device?
It's not a notification, it's an haptic feedback: one impulse, finger recognized; two impulse, finger not recognized; nothing, something wrong, doesn't work.
The problem that you put is like saying that I block the device several times a day and don't want the excursion and the click of the physical button, IMHO.
If anything, the problem to be asked would be to make the feedback more discrete by modulating the vibration differently.
Without that feedback, how would you realize if there was an error in the scan or does the reader not work? (considers that the unlock works with screen off and it would be a waste of battery to turn it on only to notify the wrong scan).
In the end it seems to me a philosophical question and in any case should not be placed for this specific device, but for everyone, since it works so everywhere.
No, it's a android feature, not a bug. If it wouldn't work, then it would define as a bug and would be fixed.
But seriously, it would be a minor battery saving trick to be able to disable it. It's the reason why I disabled haptic feedback on typing several years ago, as it effected battery life tremendously.
Just to add to the existing consensus, it is definitely working as intended.
Or perhaps more accurately (seeing as I can't read the minds of Nokia's development team) it is working exactly the same as it does on any of the other android phones with fingerprint readers I have used recently.
Personally I find it useful as it provides feedback on if my fingerprint has been read and if it has been successful.
Because I often unlock my phone as I'm removing it from my pocket or as I'm picking it up so that it is unlocked by the time it's in front of my eyes the physical feedback is definitely appreciated.

Hello,
I don't know. But my previous Huawei P8 lite (2017) had the option to turn it off.
That's why I'm surprised because the (better) Nokia 8 doesn't have this ability.
It's just to avoid much battery loss that it would be nice to have that option (I have to unlock many times per day..)

If you want to switch off the vibration then put your phone on battery saving mode and see the magic. Have you seen? Have you seen? Have you seen?

Outdoor Mode (hidden brightness menu, WHY?)

title says it all, why is this hidden and can only be accessed thru settings, and it's not a one time toggle, you'd have to go into settings every time you pull your phone out. just why? would be great for the brightness slider to just go to max instead. anyone know if theres any mods for this? or just what this is about, seems strange.
i dont have this mode

Mine always stays where ever put the slider. But then, I have auto brightness off.
Yeah what version you got? Wish we had outside mode.
I have a 950F exynos 128 GB, and It does not have such setting...
Because it's samsung. They will probably never make a good software. Just search for "automatic brightness bug". They just ignored this problem. No wonder they just hidding that option.
Outdoor mode can be enabled by editing something in system folder. Most of custom firmwares provides that function.
I've never seen that setting on mine. It's automatic for me.

IT is not a bug, and yes, there are ways to increase brightness beyond standard maximum, I remember from the days of my note 3, that many people posted very bad screen burn in and excesive batt drain when changing the lines to attain the most bright screen possible, same applies to speakers, might as well get blown, The auto brightness in note 8, in fact is very well implemented, because it learns your preferences, that is, if set to auto, and you move the slider, whenever the phone detects the same lux level, it will set the level you chose, infact, when in autobrightness, when sensing too much light, it will set an extra ammount of brightness

Agreed. Works very well. Was using GPS Google maps for the first time yesterday, screen was automatically too bright. I used slider to lower brightness, it learned my preference.

Since long I haven't seen any Note device (at least International versions) have Outdoor mode enabled by default unless you are using custom ROM. But this mode i have seen available on low range samsung devices. Actually it is hidden and one minor change in settings app enough to enable outdoor mode.
I will try to make small app without making changes in setting app, though it might needed root access.
Thank you dr ketan! I have used your excellent roms and kernels in my note 3 and 4
As I said y'day, I have made and posted Outdoor mode Tool on my Facebook wall.

hey something cool came out of this post, awesome!
so the app acts like a toggle to turn on the outdoor mode, pretty cool!
Works perfectly. Thank you.
Have noticed this mod seems to time out after 15 minutes or so. Any workaround for this?
@ dr.Ketan: since updating to oreo your app does not work anymore... do you have a solution?
THX in advance!
I am on oreo too and working fine. Check you have granted su permission

Missing clock/signal/battery in Android Auto

Hi
My Fiesta Mk8's main display is showing the time by default, but when i enter Android Auto i cant see the clock unless i have no notifications, which never happens. I thought this was simply how it was designed, but then i noticed that my friends older Focus, running the same version of Android Auto as I (on the phone), had a clock along with a signal and battery meter displayed. He uses an Huawei P30, and i use a Huawei P30 Lite, but it doesn't matter which phone i use, it just doesn't show up in my car. Therefore i guess it has something to do with the vehicle? Is there a way to enable this?
Might be a simple explanation, that i just don't know of
Take a look at the attached screenshot to see what i mean

Night-mode controlled by car, even though specified phone-controlled

Hi all,
Since a couple of updates ago, night-mode has been controlled by my car even though I set it in "Phone-controlled" in the development settings. The setting sticks, but it continues to be controlled by the car instead of the phone. Any ideas? The phone is far superior at knowing when night mode should be enabled... rather than every time I drive under an overpass...
Clip the dimmer wire?
This is a known problem, during last months. I still don't know who or what is responsible of this behavior, but for now, finally it is working OK in my car.
You can learn more here, if you have a Samsung phone:
https://support.google.com/androidauto/thread/2482734?hl=en
In my case, it all started when I switched from the Note 8 to the 10+. Waze was not switching from day to night mode at all, regardless of what setting I was using, so in your case it is much better. I would say that night mode "car controlled" is a better choice because it takes in account also situations like when you are entering tunnels.
The "phone controlled" option is driven by time, that is, by sunrise and sunset times. The "car controlled" option is better, imho, because it is driven by light intensity.
In order to have a chance that day/night mode works well, if you have a samsung phone with android 9 (pie), you should use at all times night mode in your phone settings (and not the high resolution themes, which was my case in the beginning). Then you can play with other day/night mode settings in AA, in developer settings.

Help disabling or finding another workaround for the recent apps screen due to its use in getting around productivity app blockers.

Hi,
I'm new to the forum, but I have a problem that seems too specific to be able to look for advice anywhere else. I have a Samsung S10 5g with Exynos SoC.
I have ADHD that can severely hamper my ability to do focused work when I can't eliminate distractions. Life has changed to the point that I can't get around without a smart phone (I couldn't log into my work account without using 2FA on a mobile app as the only option, for example), but I recently discovered that the paid version of BlockSite actually did quite a good job of locking down my phone with the option to unlock it by a password known only to my wife whenever that's needed.
That worked well for me for several months, and productivity soared as did the quality of my relationship. The problem is, the app has to be airtight. When ADHD brain pain sets in, nothing else matters to me more than breaking into my phone to mindlessly browse and ease the pain. And after a few months I was regularly spam tapping on apps on my recently viewed apps screen to try and force it to stay open. It fell apart completely when I accidentally opened split screen mode and realised that the BlockSite block screen only takes up half the screen. Since then, the app has been useless and I tend to browse in those difficult times as much as I ever used to.
It doesn't matter how I accomplish it, rooting or otherwise, but id like to find a way to completely disable recent apps functionality to bring BlockSite back to being functional for me.
I'm currently seeking treatment through other means, but it would be a huge help to me regardless if this were possible. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
