Since update Netflix has no picture... - Xiaomi Mi CC9 / Mi 9 Lite Questions & Answers

Updated 2 days ago. Tried to watch Netflix, it has full sound etc but picture is black.... WTF is that about? Someone on reddit said its a problem with the update and YouTube hd videos have sound and no picture either.
Anyone else have this problem? If it is a common problem, then it's a bit of a disaster on their part.

Ι have also problem with carrier tv network on my country which i use through my phone.Same issue.Only sound and black screen!!This is a major issue where could we report it??

I dont know but its a terrible mistake on their behalf. I'm regretting buying this phone already...

Yes, HDR videos are not working. Youtube hdr or netflix hdr, sdr videos do work. I don't know why. I didn't reset my phone because I don't watch enough content on it to bother me but it pretty bad bug. I wonder if it fixes on an update soon, don't really know how to contact xiaomi and tell them.

Mi 9 Lite is not HDR 10+ compliant so you can't watch HDR content in Netflix, unlike flagship devices (Mi 9/Pro, S10 series, LG, ... etc)
here
Mi 9 Lite supports only old HDR version (YouTube)

I was talking about HDR ! It's a different thing from SD/HD
SD : Standard Definition
HD : High Definition
SDR : Standard Dynamic Range
HDR : High Dynamic Range
To fix your black screen problem, downgrade your firmware, or use a custom ROM ... or wait for a fix from MIUI.

How do I downgrade firmware? I'm not great with tech stuff

I presume its locked. I only got the phone a week ago...

if you don't feel it, don't do it. Too many people , here, asking for bricked device. If you want to do it, read the manual, two times, read again the manual, read an other one, and maybe start your stuff

Same problem for me. Black videos on youtube after updating to miui 11. WHAT THE HELL? How do I fix it?

Yeh, it's seriously annoying. How do we contact them? Surely, they've gotten feedback on this issue now and are working on it??

....
You got in the phone 2 apps: Services&feedback and Mi comunity.
In the first you describe the issue and it goes to Xiaomi directly.
The second is a big comunity of all devices (forum) and it will go to Xiaomi trough moderators.

I posted feedback in 13 feb and 1 of march, no reply, no nothing.
Really disappointed, why is the feedback app even there if there are no replies 1 month later.

The devices themselves are great, but MIUI is still full of little things here and there that just make you want to replace it. App bugs, that annoying "force close everything constantly on the background" behavior...
This Netflix bug that remains unsolved "forever" now was the last straw that made me just unlock the device and choose LOS instead. Everything is near perfect now.

Can you explain more how you unlocked it? And what is LOS? I'm not great with tech but I'll follow your lead if it fixes Netflix and improves the phone.

If you're not that experienced I'm afraid it may be a bit overwhelming to begin with...
Search for these things in order:
1 - unlock your bootloader (search for unlocking bootloader in Xiaomi devices, there's a waiting period after you apply for it)
2 - flash and boot a custom recovery (go to Rom and Recoveries thread category, go to the TWRP thread and check out instructions
3 - LOS = LineageOS (in my case version 17.1, Android 10 based), again, there's a dedicated thread on it, with instructions on how to flash that.
If you manage to get passed all that, there's 2 more things you can do to complete the experience, related to Camera and Google's SafetyNet so you can install Netflix directly from Play Store as normal.
You will loose your warranty and there's always a chance of hiccups along the way so if you're not very comfortable with all this, the only alternative is to wait for the MIUI update that is slowly rolling out to devices.

Ok, probably too complicated for me and I'll probably make a mess of it. Guess I'll have to wait for update. Thanks anyways

Black Screen of Death BSOD

Announcement: Maybe we are close to a software solution
Dear Friends,
my HM2014813 has several problems:
On some AOSP roms I get BSOD: When screen gets locked and black, I can't turn it on unless I remove and reinsert battery.
On LineageOS PowerOFF does not work properly. Ends in a situation like BSOD
After booting into TWRP the touchscreen is unresponsive. I have to lock and unlock, to get response.
I think I'm not alone with this problem. Most of us get recommendations like that: Replace Screen
This problem is not present in every rom. So there should be a solution without hardware modification. What else can we try?
For reference here are the HM codes: source
Redmi 2 1/8GB & 2/16GB/Prime = HM2014811 / 17/18/21 (wt88047)
Redmi 2 A / Enhanced = HM2014812 / 13/16 (wt86047)
Redmi 2 Pro = HM2014819
Before I continue, I'd like to remind you that Redmi 2A is a china-only phone, the chipset isn't Qualcomm based, but Leadcore based. My fellow friends that I know that have a WT86047 aren't Redmi 2A's. They're running Qcom and have no signal loss in my country.
I picked WT88047, but honestly I've seen them in all of those variants (except Redmi 2A variants). I have 4 friends that bought 2016's batch of shipped RM2 (Prime or just RM 2). These friends of mine didn't buy at the same place, 2 of them bought it online and the 2 others bought it from a local vendor (not an official Xiaomi store). From those 4 friends of mine, 2 of my friends got the HM2014813 (WT86047), one got HM2014818 (WT88047) and the last one got a HM2014811 which is the same as mine.
All of them (including me) faced the same bugs (BSOD, screen freezing, TWRP not working). So it's not just a specific variant of RM2, but all of them. Hypothetically (CMIIW) all RM2's that are shipped at 2016 above nearly all of them have this bug (unless you bought it from an official Xiaomi store, which is pretty much hard to find, because Xiaomi don't show, even sell, old phones). 2 of my friends sold their devices, one friend of mine sticked it with it's current case and stayed on stock MIUI & my last friend (with the HM2014813 - WT86047) followed my lead by changing his screen with an official screen that he got from a relative that has an unused RM2, bought from an official vendor. Now me and him can go custom rom or modding all we want without those old bugs that used to plague our phones.
So to the RM2's batch 2016 are all shipped with bad and faulty hardware parts. Mostly nearly of them are faulty sensors. Or maybe those RM2's that are shipped are refurbished RM2's that are given bad parts or maybe bad LCD screens. Like I said before in my previous posts about this, It's the sensors. They are totally bugged. I don't know what made them that way. Why I said it was the sensors? Because my old front sensors got changed when I checked it with a system specs app. My local part vendors sell RM2 LCD's and when you buy a LCD, it's a whole package, you can't by per-parts (unless you disassemble them one buy one). What I mean "it's a whole package" is if you buy an LCD, you will get the touchscreen and front sensors with it. If it's not the sensors, maybe it's the touchscreen (just using my logic here)
I don't know about fixes and stuff (without having to do hardware modif). I'm not a developer, I don't understand that much about BLOBs and shims. Well let's hope someone who's a developer and has a RM2 with those bugs show up with a fix so that people don't have to do any hardware modifications on their bugged RM2's.
Miui stable and best.

Well custom roms are for modification, so If you're not impressed with how the music sounds like in custom roms, you could always just install a mod for it. There's Viper4Android, Dolby Digital Plus, AM3D Zirene, etc. Just find what you need, flash the mod per instructions you need and voila, you've got better music in you're custom rom. Installing these sound mods even work well in MIUI. You've got dozens of Camera apps that may (or maynot) go better on in custom roms than MIUI. Just saying though, if you love MIUI it's fine to stay on MIUI.
For those who has the same problem, try enabling portable hotspot. It solve the problem for me, but yes, it'll also drain your battery faster

I tried it once when my device was still having those bugs. It doesn't work. At all.
I had two redmi 2 online and both had the BSOD issue. It didn't matter which MIUI version it was on, it can still get triggered into the BSOD.
This is the procedure that triggers it.
1.Start an app that generates a lot of objects
2.Keep the device with the app until the back is warm/hot
3.Exit from the app or click home
4.Now quickly press the side power button to turn off screen
5.Redmi Black Screen and cut off from power even if you had music app on.
I have concluded that it might be a hardware issue since I had test another none online redmi 2 with these redmi 2 with the same MIUI version. What should triggered the same effect did not affect the none online redmi 2.
Perhaps using a soft lockscreen button might be able to avoid this issue.
Mine starts getting this problem after I changed the display (bought cheap from aliexpress). Never had a single problem before, while now miui is the only rom that works

There you go, another living proof that BSoD is because of a faulty display. Did you change it again? Or are you still using the cheap screen you bought from AliExpress?
Sorry for delay. Just tried last lineage build, as said it works except on power off

For this Power off issue i've made a automate flow that boots into recovery and offs from there.
.. And we have a "living proof" that this hardware problem can be solved with software.

Then you should thank the devs for pulling this one off. Either they've tweaked or fixed what created the bug or because Android Oreo doesn't communicate with device drivers the same way as it's predecessors. Thanks for testing Oreo and latest Lineage. I'll recommend these to my other pals that are still bugged with BSoD. Cheers :highfive:

How to get Netflix in HD and HDR in Mate 10/Pro

I managed to get Netflix HD (specially HD because with a 2k display and not being able to get hd content is stupid) and HDR in my Mate 10 (not pro) by changing the device model to the mate 10 RS porshe design NEO-L29, also works changing it to Mate 10 pro BLA-L09. This also may work for the Non supported Mate 10 Pro phones, Netflix only support officially the NEO-L29 and BLA-L09, thats it says in the website.
You need to have magisk root, with safetynet pass in green and modify this file:
/product/hw_oem/ALP-L29/prop/local.prop (mine is ALP-L29 but it might be ALP-AL00, ALP-L09... Or whatever brand you have, check in settings about phone.. So edit the file for your device model)
See the screenshots attachment for more details.
So basically change all the words ALP-L29 (or whatever is your model) in that file to NEO-L29.
Reboot and go to Netflix, which now appears in the playstore and can be installed.
Go to any of the Netflix originals like black mirror or stranger things and you should see the word HDR next to the title.
I don't know if the hdr really works on our device's screen in Netflix but defenitley Netflix now recognises my Mate 10 as a porshe design and as a supported device.
What I can assure is that HD now works because before doing this change, I downloaded an episode of black mirror and the size was 330 mb but after the change the size now is 770 mb(if I change to NEO) and 550 (if I change to BLA-L09) and obviously it looks sharper...
HDR seems to work too, The shows with hdr support seem to look better than the ones where it says HD only, the blacks seem darker and more saturation but I cannot be 100% sure... ?
Keep in mind that not all the Netflix content is in hdr only the shows original from Netflix and only some of them.
Hope it works for you and let me know if you see the HDR improvement, specially in the PRO device because of the AMOLED.

Yes man I know how you feel, thats why Ive been investigating untill i found how to fix this problem, But yeah you need Root for it, If I buy a phone super expensive is because i want the best feature, it very sad how these companies work.
I think the BLA-L09 is european and the BLA-L29 is like more international. So one would expect that the international version is what should be supported and not the euroean. Anyway, It´s not only huawei fault, its also netflix´s, why all these restricctons? Every phone with at least a 720p screen and google widevine drm support should be able to get HD support. All these exclusivities netflix is doing with some phones is very discriminatory.
Anyway, if you really consume a lot of netflix, i would recommend you to root and get HD support for your phone.

I don't wanna be that guy, but people need to stop saying 2k display... 2k is 2000. It makes absolutely no sense to say that.
2k resolution is a slightly larger fullhd cinematic movie recording format (just like 4k compared to Ultra HD)
2k is like 2048x1080 so if one of these phones has close to 2k screen it is the fullhd+ mate10pro.
Saying 2k is insulting your device.
No offence meant lol

Hahah don't worry, I say 2k because everyone one else knows it as that, few knows it as QHD. I normally like to call it just 1440p like 1080p, 720p as that's a more precise term...

Mi A2 : Grainy Videos After Update

Hi guys,
I just fastboot flashed my MI A2 to the latest September update because somehow I wasn't receiving OTAs since I purchased the phone.
However, after updating it, I noticed considerably more grainy videos and its also visible in daylight. I am not sure if it's just my imagination or anyone else facing the same issues? The photos are OK though.
Is this kinda issue possible after an update? Thanks in advance.

How can you pull it back?
I just checked video (with the update), pretty sure there are 2 differences, but 'grainy' isn't necessarily one of them.
Did video resolutions change? I don't remember 4k30fps being there or even 1080p60fps? The other thing I *think* is different is the PDAF was working before and now AF doesn't happen (that's for sure). You can touch a focus point and that works, during the video, but pretty sure it was doing that itself before.
Once it's focused, for me anyway, it's very clear.

I guess the only way for me to find out is to directly compare the vidz btw my mom's phone and the problem phone when I see her over the weekend. This bugs me so much.

Had [email protected] before. [email protected] came with the August update. AF during recording works for me with the September update.

Hmmm, so just tested again, AF is working! How bizarre. Guess it goes to show one should always close app, maybe even reboot, and test again, just to be sure.
So I have finally compared the video of my phone to my mom's which is not updated. Apparently it was just my imagination. Been too used to the vastly superior video quality of the OP6. LOL.
Sorry guys for the false alarm.

mate 20 pro firmware 9.0.0.166

Hi,
I heard that there is a new firmware update the one mentioned above, did anyone get the update and can post a change log of the changes?
I've seen mentions of 166 and even 171 but I'm still on 146 since I got the phone 2 weeks ago and did the first upgrade from 122.
Canadian M20P.
Hoping for camera fixes (less aggressive sharpening mainly and video letdowns) plus a few quirky bugs (I loathe the crippled functionality of the so-called "smart case").

i hope that camera fix comes in.. otherwise this might have to go back. The camera is very over hyped just like the mate 10 pro was. Even my old Honor 8 produced better shots.
What issues? I'm on 171 maybe I can tell u

What have you noticed? I noticed that scene detection doesn't work as well . Basically only picks up sky, greenery and that's kind of it?
Happy to hear about .171, I'm still stuck on .127 on Bell's network in Canada...

As long as it is getting better ? we are slowly getting there so it was a software thing and has nothing to do with hardware?
Are u from Germany? I'm from Germany but still didn't got the update
I have the 171 from funkyhuawei because I wanted to unlock my bootloader
Jeah it's definitely a software thing, but it's getting better, slowly but steady )

Question Charging Animation (Rear Display)

I recently noticed that rear display charging animation is no longer working after updating it to MIUI Global 12.5.2 (Indian Variant) and before updating it was working perfectly fine.
In MIUI 12.5.4 (EEA) it is normal.

So there's no way to bring it back to normal like earlier?
Raise it as a bug with Xiaomi

Hey, I never noticed this. Can someone tell what's the animation like?
It shows a sort of liquid indicating the battery left and the percentage of the battery left when you plug in the charger
Check pic
I've never noticed as my phone is normally on its back but Xiaomi say that the latest beta weekly has this updated rear display app. And, yes when checking yesterday, it is fully working now and as in the pics above

Did you check your settings? Something may have changed.
I confirmed, it's working for me. I am on the same ROM.
This is just another whiner complaining that something doesn't work while he is probably the cause of his own problems. XDA used to be site dedicated to custom roms and apps from developers, also hackers with mods and shortcuts, now it's just a bunch of whiners, complaining about virtually everything. In the old days, you would be told to go search this site,as well as the internet for these complaints that are here nowadays.

This was totally unnecessary and also very rude. Hard to miss the irony in your comment.

Well to search for a problem there should be an existing thread right? This is that thread! So stfu.

XDA has gone from a site of doer's to a site full of can't doer's and as unfortunate as it is, that's the truth. Go to the main page of this forum and tell me what most of the articles are about. Almost all of them are complaints, I need a cable, my alarm doesn't work, my battery life is bad, I'm stuck in fastboot, how do you flash rom/TWRP, I'm not getting notifications, how do you unlock bootloader, etc...These are all simple questions that are well documented and many of them are in guides, but to find that information, one needs to search.

Did he search the entire web before he started this whine. I would bet not, charging animation not working, now there's a real issue. Read the thread and you will see that others are not having that problem. Now if this user had searched the entire web, they would realize that perhaps the settings got changed somehow or that the data/cache needed to be cleared.
