LineageOS 17 GSI Rom working on A40 Confirmed - Samsung Galaxy A40 Guides, News, & Discussion

Hi. Just wanted to say that LineageOS 17 is indeed working on my Samsung Galaxy A40.
By wiping everything except internal storage and flashing the A/B image of LineageOS 17, I got it working on my A40. The only problem is that:
1. USB OTG does not work.
2. File transfers does not work.
3. WiFi is a bit slow, but still works.
You just search up online tutorials on how to flash GSI Rom's on phones, then you follow those.
PS: Some apps show you that your system is A only. Those apps are not working. The phone uses A/B.

Same problems at my side. Now im trying some other ROMs
Added:
OTG works fine (tested flashstorage)

How have you gotten OTG to work? MicroSD card works fine, but not an external USB.

Nothing... It works from beginning, my otg cable was faulty.

How did you do it? I keep getting stuck after flashing the GSI rom. It wont boot..

Hey there
On my A40 with LOS17 my Bluetooth Headphones works fine, untill i get a call (or want to make one),
then the Phone switches to the internal speaker.
Does anybody have the same problem?

Hi,
Did anyone manage to fix the rounded corners. For example the battery icon is not visible.
EDIT: Already found it. It is in Phh settings.

Hello! Would you possibly provide with documentation or just the procedures on how to get a GSI to work on the Samsung A40? Been trying to get it to work and it just says "No OS installed" in TWRP and boot loops...

Atleast for now, all of the gsi images are not worth effort for this device. I've tried most of them and they are laggy. But here is an instruction
1. Download all attached files and copy them to sd card (Cant post links because im new but i hope that this will not get deleted
ht tps://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1GhcWXGcNir-5fKt25y1D6kgZd7DNVz6e (remove the space in gaps)
2. Boot into twrp
3. wipe
Dalvik/ Art Cache
System
Data
Internal Storage
Cache
4. Flash Disable_Dm-Verity_ForceEncrypt
5. Flash gsi rom as system
6. Reboot to recovery (very important, dont skip this step. There might be information about No OS Installed dont worry about it.)
7. Then click Mount - System. Go to wipe -> Advanced wipe -> Select system -> Click repair or change file system -> resize file system (If there is an error while resizing system just do it one more time.)
8. Flash Magisk
9. Now depends on your gsi. Some have already attached google services. If you are using lineage os i suggest you to use NikGapps (Open gapps didn't worked for me) Flash it
10. If you are having problem with corners in gsi rom, flash A40LOSFIX. It fixes the problem
There is fix for laggy animations in system ui
Open up any root file explorer and go to:
/system/build.prop (remember to change partition from r/w to r/o)
and paste those lines at the bottom of the file
#visual_tweak
debug.sf.hw = 0
debug.egl.hw = 0
debug.enable.sglscale = 1
debug.sf.enable_hwc_vds = 1
debug.gralloc.enable_fb_ubwc = 1
debug.sf.latch_unsignaled = 1
debug.sf.recomputecrop = 0
dev.pm.dyn_samplingrate = 1
Thats all, but as i said i dont think that is worth the effort. Android q navigation gestures are choppy even with the fix and thats problem for me. But maybe someone could fix this or make rom specific for this device.

What is about camera performance in LOS ? As far as I know there are some propriatary part of firmware ...

Whats with the Gapps?

Hello, I'm considering installing Lineage OS 17.1 over stock Android. Have the slow WiFi and files not transferring via USB cable been patched yet?

Ive been using it for 2 weeks now. I like it many times more than the Samsung bloatware. But yes, there are still some limitations and broken functionalities there. To name the ones I've noticed so far:
- No USB OTG, nor file transfer via USB.
- Auto brightness not working (even though the light sensor is working)
- Proximity wont change audio messages from playing on speaker
Working:
- Wifi 5Ghz working full speed (30 Mb/s+)
- Playing music over bluetooth
- Battery seems to last the same
Apart from that, I have nothing to complain just yet.

It does not. I can search it in the settings menu, but the setting is not there. Same for adaptive backlight

I've installed according to Yankezss advice with twrp 3.4 unofficial. I have ARM64 architecture device and I downloaded the A/B version "lineage-17.1-20201114-UNOFFICIAL-treble_arm64_bvS (1).img.xz" extracted it and installed the .img as system in twrp and everything else according to his post. My phone stays in "galaxy" logo, waited for 20-30 minutes and it was still like that. Any advice? I've also tried installing unofficial lineage os 18 from two different sources and could not get those booted either.

So you all talking about general GSI LOS Roms, right. There is no dedicated for A40?

Mi Mix - sound problems after updating on Linieage os 15.1

Hi,
I changed the software of my Mi Mix 6 months ago to lineage os - after the change of the os, the sound was not running properly anymore. In the forum someone did help me out with software for a firmware update. Now I updated on Lineage os 15.1 and the soundproblems are there again. Can someone tell me, if I have to update the firmware again, respectively where I can find the relevant software. Thanks for helping!

I am sorry - I have been not very precise. The sound itself is still working. But my device especially has problems to connect to myBluetooth Speaker. Maybe thats more a connection issue. There are further a bunch of small problems, I cannot explain. For example - I cannot download maps of different regions in my map app anymore. As well - I am using the yalp store to download certain apps I need - downloads or updates are not possible anymore. Half a year ago someone gave me this link for firmware updates: https://mega.nz/#F!zlJBQJhJ!BJuv0brw0doTafuLTXJATw Is it useful to update the firmware on a newer version?
Best
First you do not need to use a firmware for LoS 15.1, just the latest nightly which is here: https://download.lineageos.org/lithium
*Second.... Do NOT use any app store beside Google Play. Because it may cause problems to your phone. Use Google Play only... Any the apps can harm your device.... I would suggest to do a full wipe on the advance wipe option in TWRP... That means everything except for USB OTG.. Make sure you are done... Make sure all data partitions (DATA, Caches) is on EXT 4 before installing. See the info below near the photo.
If your phone still have problems.....I would suggest go back to Stock Firmware by using Mi Flash (make sure you click "Clean All" without locking your phone on the bottom right of Mi-Flash) when you boot your phone to to **bootloader**. You can use Mi Flash and flash the current Global Stable or Global Developer for the Mi Mix which is on en.miui.com/a-234.html then check to see if the problem still happens on either firmwares. If there is no problem, then by all means go back to LoS 15.1. The Miui Rom Flashing tool link is right above the list of the Miui Rom Version. And again i warn you before flashing the stock firmware to click the "Clean All" only.. not "Clean All and Lock" because it will lock your bootloader. Then after your done, check for any problems.. If the phone is ok.. Then go back to LoS 15.1 to determine if these problems still happen.. If it works fine.. Then you know why your phone had problems in the first place.
The photo is for you to see what to wipe when doing a clean installation of LoS 15.1.. Wipe all except for the USB OTG before flashing anything. Repair and Change system file is to check to see if all of your partitions is on EXT 4. Just to make sure you have no errors of any kind before installing.

if the issue still there, it's not firmware problem, maybe it's the ROM problem.

Thanks a lot for your extensive response.
One thing - out of some reason I cannot start TWRP manually (maybe cause I encrypted my hard-drive). I only can start it using adb. Once, my recovery is started, I can not connect to the phones hard-drive via my computer anymore. Am I not deleting the complete hard-drive plus OS, when I am performing an extended wipe - as you are suggesting. My problem is, that I am afraid, that I am not able to install a new OS after a wipe (since I will delete all data stored on the hard-drive and to enter my hard-drive again, I would have to start the phone...).
Ps. I never heard that it might cause problems to install apps from apps like the yalp store. Since I am not interested to have all the google surveillance software on my phone, using a costum rom without gapps seemed a good way for me till now.

For what it's worth, flashing the firmware provided by hendrix fixed my lineageos 15.1 problems.
I recently moved into LineageOS coming from latest MIUI 10 by Xiaomi.eu. Initially everything worked fine except for sound when playing media files (notification sound works). The firmware flash fixed everything.

Me too, Phone itself worked great, had NO sound from Google Assistant, no sound from headphones, no sound from speakers, but did have ring/notifications and some sound. Video was laggy and intermittent on youtube and the net..... I tried many different Roms, Many newer firmwares and the ONLY ONLY thing that worked was the suggestion to try firmware 8.1.4
After that all is working great...…………..

Android 10 GSI

I have tested many GSIs on my T510 and finally found the GSI best for tablet users. It deosn't have any tablet specialized UI but it can be customized to give a better experience over the others- https://sourceforge.net/projects/treblerom/files/BLESS/2020.10.15/bless-v224-201015-a64-bvN.img.xz/download
It has Slim Recents, Safety Net passes, Selinux Enforcing and Nice Quick Setting Panel. Screenshots- http://imgur.com/a/TmYgvUh
Bugs- If brightness goes below 10% then it becomes too dark to see anything so you have to focus light on the screen to faintly see anything and turn the brightness up (It is the bug in all the GSIs by the way, it is not GSI sided but vendor sided), so don't keep the brightness too low.

Everything seems to work fine except a few UI hiccups here and there which are quite expected in GSI builds. Moreover due to heavy customization you get lesser free RAM than the other.
Instructions- Download and unzip this GSI in internal storage, SD card or USB-OTG then flash that image into system partition by choosing 'system partition' while installation, flash gapps (ARM) and reboot to system.

In January I installed 17.1 using this ROM. Do I need to go through the whole process of resizing the partition, since I already did it for 17.1?
Never mind! I went ahead and installed it following the instruction . It works, thanks!

Yes, it's very stable.
I have one issue and some questions.
When using a Bluetooth Headset, I have no sound in apps like Jitsi. Mic on the Bluetooth Headset is working in Jitsi, the others can here me. When using e.g. youtube in Chromium I can hear sound via the Bluetooth Headset.
I checked "Force-disable A2DP offload" and restarted, still the same.
Any Ideas?
And some Questions:
- Is magisk only needed for root? I don't need to root, do i still have to install magisk?
- in twrp I can't mount the system partition, so I cant fix it, but the rom is working. So how to mount system?
- I don't want gapps, is it ok to use the roms without gapps? so eg this one ...treble_a64_bvS.img ?
- in the description downloadlinks you are using: 18: treble_a64_bvS-vndklite but 19: treble_a64_bgS, so should one use vndklite for 18 but not for 19? Or also for 19? What is better? ...
Regards
This is confirmed to work on the T-510? Curiosity will brick the tab, like it kills the cat....

Yep. It works. I previously had the latest Nexus rom flashed on my SMT-510, so in TWRP I just flashed Lineage 19.1 to system, formatted data, rebooted and it loaded successfully. With Magisk 24.1. It all runs surprisingly well. No issues so far other than no USB file transfer or ability to mount System partition.

I can only answer some of your questions:
- Magisk is only used for root. It's not required.
- Mounting /system in TWRP or in a File explorer doesn't seem to be possible.
- GApps is built in to roms with "...bgS.img.xz". For vanilla roms without gapps download the "...bvS.img.xz"file.
- For LOS 19, I flashed treble_a64_bgS and didn't have an issue. I can't comment on the vndklite version or what it's used for since I never tried it.

It's a good rom and works very well. I was using it before I upgraded to LOS19.1.
Hey there!
I Installed this a couple of weeks ago, but has to reinstall nexus stock 11.0 pretty quickly, as after spending an evening trying to fix issues, it just wouldn't work.
Issues:
1) App crashes are constant. I cannot open Chrome, YouTube, Google Podcasts, Twitter - they all crash to launcher. - Cache, dalvik and data was cleared, still nothing
2) Gesture Navigation is missing - is it meant to be?
3) Magisk installs successfully,, but is then not recognised by the app, meaning no modules. - Is that normal?
Does anyone have any idea on how I could fix these issues, so I can install again?
Many thanks

[SHARE] CAOS Custom AOSP project android 11 best rom for galaxy tab 10.1 (SMT515/SMT510)

So this is not my work I am just sharing this phh treble GSI which is fully tested and working super without any issues.
Installation:
Download this xz file(gapps included)
https://sourceforge.net/projects/treblerom/files/CAOS11/2022.02.28/caos-v315%2B220228-a64-bgZ.img.xz/download
Extract it and you will get image file place it in internal storage of phone.
Now Boot phone in TWRP and then tap install ,now tap install image tab now locate your CAOS image file and check mark system partition and slide bottom bar.
After flashing gets completed just go to wipe and do format data.
And reboot to the system.
Bugs:
1) adaptive brightness not working
2)some sensors are not working but still it will not cause issue
3)voLTE not working.
Here is full review of the rom
Will root this tablet soon and try it out!!
editnvm I thought I saw it as 2020 model
I just installed it and everything looks good so far. But I did NOT format the data partition. I had the Nexus ROM installed which didn't encrypt the data partition. Before booting this ROM, I used TWRP's file manager to see if the internal storage was encrypted and it wasn't. So it was like doing a dirty flash. It kept all of my apps and settings so all I had to do was arrange my home page. So, if your data partition isn't encrypted, you DON'T need to format it.
Hello, can you send the link to download the twrp? And for this tablet
(T515XXU8CVG2) Android version 11 is installed with Odin? Thank you
Hello, does it use less RAM than lineage os 19.1?

Install GSI ROMs on J3

Hello guys, I managed to install and run An Android 10/11/12 GSI Rom on my J3(SM-J330FN) and I'd like to share.
Step 1: You'll need to install project Kabob 2.0 to create the vender partition to actually boot up the GSI. It might act up to install but install it about 3-5 times until TWRP recognizes the vender partition.
Step 2: Download a64_bvn-vndklite type of GSI's for the phone. I researched and used treble info to actually check the needed type of GSI the phone can run. You must install no gapps, no root type of GSI.
Step 3: Extract the xz and you'll find the .img file, you can either copy it to the internal storage, use an OTG usb flash drive or a memory card. I prefer using external memory to install the Rom. Boot into TWRP, click install, click select image, find it wherever you put it and click on it. You'll be given about four options and they'll be two system partitions. I guess that the first one must be A and the other B, since the Rom naming scheme goes as bvn... Install in the second system partition. Reboot your device.
You might experience the device blacking at some point, press the home or power button and it will continue the boot animation. It's buggy because the vendor partitioner is a port from the J5 Prime because they both use the exynos 7570 chipset and there's no sound too. Even if you flash the audio fix from the project Kabob page/mega folder it just won't work. Even if you can't use the Rom as a daily driver, at least there's a possibility to breathing life into this piece of hardware
Recommend GSI ROMs: https://sourceforge.net/projects/andyyan-gsi/files/lineage-17.x/
Project Kabob: https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...-project-kebab-2-0-v2-2-1-j330x-7570.4182787/
Works on all J3 2017 variants J330X.
