Pogo pins - Nubia Red Magic 3 Questions & Answers

Hello,
I was wondering what the pinout is for the 7 pogo pins on the side of the RM3(s). I want to 3D-print a holder for the phone, with some extra functionality, just like the Magic Adapter. I can't find a pinout or even what protocol is used to communicate between the phone and the Adapter. Anyone know anything about the pins?

I posted the info a long time ago. You have audio and mic. L,R and Mic, power and gnd, then USB d+ and -. Careful powering stuff off the power and gnd it's not made to power devices. Inside the dock is a 4 port USB 2.0 hub controller not all the ports are hooked up that's how I added a micro SD card reader to my dock.

Thank you for your reply. I will test if I can get a USB output from the pins!

You can. It's got data + and -
How it works is that goes to a USB hub controller that goes to a USB Ethernet.

The micro SD card adapter I put on one of the unused ports.

Fast-charging/USB-charging with micro-USB

Does somebody know yet if this device needs pin4 and pin5 connected (ground) for fast-charging on micro-usb?
On my kaiser I needed to connect these two to be able to charge in my car with my standard USB-charger.
To keep this charger as a universal charger (hope its 2 Amperes won't fry my HD2), I need to buy new cables or a mini-usb to micro-usb adapter and might need to modify them.
I noticed that the battery on my kaiser was getting fairly hot on this 2amps. Is there a protecting circuit, or is this in a safe range for those batteries?
amperes of you charger are max current, wchich you cat have from the charger... it is all about, how much leo will take it is about voltage...
and sorry, no idea about this connectivity... if you will tell me, how to check this, i will check it for you...
So, if I understood correctly, the device determines how much Amps to be drawn?
If you take the wall-charger and you look onto the micro-usb plug:
Code:
_____________
\ , , , , , /
\_________/
PIN: 5 4 3 2 1
For a Kaiser device to fastcharge , pin 5 and 4 must be connected together.
On normal USB-cables (micro and mini) for data, pin4 has no function, it isn't even wired in the cable.
Do you have a volt-meter to check this?
Thanks!
USB A male to micro USB A male cable versus USB B cable?
Hello guys,
I bought my HD2 yesterday ! I am very happy with it.
I would like to buy 2 more cables on ebay (1 for the office, 1 for home).
Should I buy the
- USB A male to micro USB A male cable
OR
- USB A male to micro USB B male cable
I am a bit confused here.
I see 2 types of cables on ebay, not sure which one to buy!
Any ideas?
Thanks
If my assumptions are correct, and the cables work like on the Kaiser device, it's:
- USB A male to micro USB A male cable (for fast-charging, works with generic-usb car charger - NO data connection)
edit: WRONG, because micro-A-plug is not compatible with micro-B-socket.
- USB A male to micro USB B male cable (for data-connection and slow USB-charging)
Still needs confirmation by an HD2-user, but I don't think HTC changed something going from mini to micro-plug. (I think they dropped EXT-usb design for having an extra 3,5mm headset-jack instead. - but that shouldn't confuse you)
Well, not exactly:
Type A is to be plugged into host-device (the one supplying power to the other device, usually the charger or your computer), whereas type B is to be plugged into the target device (in this case, the HD2).
This typology exists to prevent you from linking two power suppliers at both ends of the cable...
So what you need is a "USB Type A to Micro USB Type B" cable
That's the original USB-specs, you are referring to.
Mini/micro-A-plugs are using pin4-to-ground by these USB-spec, for electronically differenciating these.
What I wanted to pinpoint, is that HTC decided to mark pin4-to-ground for detection of their charging equipment.
And since micro-A plugs fit into micro-B sockets, you should be able to use a "USB A male to micro USB A male cable" for your charging needs (without modifying your micro-B cable, which can be quite tricky because of its size)
edit: I was wrong with that, it's the other way round, sry. Does the HD2 have a AB-socket then? I believe it's a regular B-socket.
Then if I stand correctly, you will still need a special modified micro-B-cable for charging.
To make it even more difficult, HTC-design does not charge the Kaiser with a regular mini-b-cable on a car-charger, because there was no data-signal on it.
My intention of this thread was asking, if this behavior has changed when going from mini to micro-usb design, and is still an unanswered question.

...same for me. may I have a clear and "safe" answer for dummie?
- USB A male to micro USB A male cable
OR

Thanks a lot.
only USB-B-male fit into the device, boy!
Well, I've seen unboxing videos now, and the wall-charger ... is a normal-USB-plug-in device like a car-charger. Seems that my intention of this thread is obsolete.

[Q] USB Host through stock data cable?

Hi all,
I recently bought a female to female usb adapter hoping to use it along with the original charging/data cable to get USB host on my phone. It doesn't appear to be working. I have tried several peripherals (flash drive, keyboard etc.).
Is the data cable for the Atrix HD physically different from the OTG cable? I had heard that was the case for another device.
Edit: Sorry, I didn't mean to post this in general. Could a mod please move this to Q&A.
Please keep questions to the Q&A section
Sorry, I meant to post this in Q&A. Could a mod please move this. Thanks!
Micro USB plugs actually have 5 pins whereas the standard has 4. So pin 4 (called the ID pin) is left floating on your normal data cable. However, on an otg cable or adapter, pin 4 is shorted to pin 5 (ground) before everything goes to the rest of the cable. When the phone detects the short on the ID pin, it activates the host function.
You can find cheap adapters that short the pins for you or you can modify your own cable by hacking off the housing on the micro side and soldering a jumper between the pins. Also, for accessories to work, you'll likely need a powered USB hub since the phone won't supply the power for them (at least that's the way in my experience).
Hope this helps. Otherwise, let me know if you have more questions. If you google USB host or USB otg, you'll probably find some good stuff.

Thanks a lot! That totally answers my question. I'm just going to buy an OTG cable.

Raspberry pi , Power Supply

I want your experience in psu schematics. This is my plan, I will buy a cheap usb hub,,I will power it with dvd player smps 5V at the same time it will supply parallel to pi micro usb socket. My question is ,Do you cut the upstream power from usb hub when you are connecting the hub? do you left it as it is,,may be a diode is present.

While I can't answer specifics on what wires to connect I would recommend taking a look at this great guide to building your own PSU for the RPi http://elinux.org/RPi_5V_PSU_construction. This includes circuit diagram layouts.

I have my Pi powered from one of the normal USB ports. The power comes from the 'power' cable of the USB hard disk that is attached to the Pi. The hard disk's main USB cable is plugged into a powered USB hub.

Do we need push more mA into her. mines running off my Tab2`s charger at the moment which is 2 Amps..??

That should be enough amps as most phone and tablet chargers will provide the 5-5.6V of power needed for the RPi to function properly.

2A will be sufficient to power a couple of peripherils including pi itself.

Exactly how do you have everything plugged in?
Assuming power to pi from one source, hub to the USB port and your accessories all to the hub: See if you can get your pi to boot with the hub plugged in to the accessory port but nothing to the power micro USB.
I suspect the hub may be causing issues by backfeeding power through the accessory port. This test will tell.

You guessed correctly to how i had it all set up. I did exactly what you said, tried booting, but got nothing. i dont think its backfeeding, any other suggestions? this one leaves me scratching my head.

Are you using seperate power for usb hub ?If it is so you should cut the power terminal from usb hub to pi.See that you are supplying good current to the hub.

Otg usb3.0 hd

I just bought a hard drive to connect to my nexus 10, but like an idiot, I didn't realize it was a USB 3.0 drive. I have an OTG cable. I am wondering if there is a way for me to externally power the hard drive. It has a single USB 3.0 female plug. Hopefully the attached picture can explain better what it is that I want to do.
I wonder if this would work
http://www.amazon.com/HDE®-Male-USB-Micro-B-Cable/dp/B006C0S2JS
I could connect the USB 3.0 connector (right-most) to the HD, the blue Type-A connector (left-most) to the OTG cable and the other USB (center) to a USB hub or power supply. Anyone have any experience with this type of thing?

[MOD] PDMI Charger Port to MicroUSB Port Hardware MOD Completed!!

Since it almost impossible to find a PDMI Port, I retrofited a MicroUSB port.
I even contracted FOXXCON, got a reply contract DELL for replacement part.
I have Charging and Data + / - (Detected by PC) working fine.
Only Issue is that the device shows it's not charging when Power ON and connected to PC (Hardware Charging LED is lit).
-Maybe this is Normal??
It does show charging when power on and connected to Charging Adapter.
I will post pictures when I get home today.
Last Pic:
Basically Gutted bad PDMI Socket and Shove MicroUSB port in PDMI frame.
Looked up Pin out for PDMI and Micro usb for data +-.

PDMI connector to mini usb connector
Hello man. My name is Mario. I come from Italy. I'm a psychologist, but on the spare time I like to play with linux & mobile & tablet & technology in general. I was searching for a OTG adapter that was able to recharge my nexus 10 and at the same time that accepts an external sd card and someone has suggests this to me :
eKit 4 in 1 Data Sync Connection Kit For Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 & Note 10.1
you can read the full story here :
http://android.stackexchange.com/qu...ard-and-recharge-the-battery-at-the-same-time
the problem is that I haven't read very well what he says and I haven't understood that it is not good for the nexus 10. For this reason I have tried to search a way to convert the PDMI connector to a mini usb connector and I have found this thread. I would like to ask you if I can make the same thing that you have done and if you can tell me which electric modification I have to make to the board of this connector to convert it as a mini usb connector. Thanks.
