Note 9 still on December patch? Its a verizon phone, but its got odd issues. - Samsung Galaxy Note 9 Questions & Answers

First off, I would like to thank each and every one of you for keeping the forum active and helping out lowbies like myself with problems such as the ones I am going to explain. With that aside, Ill cut to the chase.

I have a Verizon Note9. SM-N960U. Its on Android 9; build # is PPR1.180610.011.N960USQS3CSK1. Android security patch level is December 1st, 2019.
Now, ACCORDING to the Verizon software update website, "QP1A.190711.020.N960USQU3DTAA" is out. Which is what my Note9 should be on? (Android 10... Me, having daily driven Android 9 for a year and a half now, I want the android 10 update as I have it on my Pixel4XL and absolutely love it, aside from all of the other benefits it offers.)
~Here are some of the issues I am facing.
-Smart Switch does recognize my phone, but it does not say there is an update available.
-Samsung/Verizon software Assistant does NOT recognize my phone when I plug it into my computer. I have used factory cord (USB-C to USB), USB-C (double ended USB-C), USB 3.0 and 2.0 ports, etc.... and nothing makes the program recognize my phone. I am stumped on that, but I don't want to keep stressing over it.
-OTA updates, not only NEVER come in timely fashion, but on this phone they just don't come in at all, for whatever reason. It has in the past, and I have bricked this phone before (whether it was me trying to get Android9 or 10 early), which required me to flash stock firmware (Android 9, December 2019 patch) - and I am sure it is the culprit for why I cannot OTA my phone, but I am clueless and here begging for help.
~I go onto SamMobile or FirmwareScience and I cannot for the LIFE of me, find CSK1-DTAA. CSK1 is the software I am currently on, and DTAA being the Android 10, that I am trying to get on.
I know that there is probably an update AFTER CSK1 that I am missing that I would need in order to seamlessly go from CSK1 to DTAA, but again, I cannot find it. Maybe I am blind and dumb.
What I am essentially asking, is if anyone knows the correct firmware AFTER CSK1 that I could flash from SD card. Then possibly after I do that, get the next firmware, flash that, and so on, until eventually I can finally hop into Android 10.
Not sure what other info I am needing to include, so if there is anything I need to add, let me know and I will immediately do so.
THANK YOU EVERYONE

I saw someone mention this site has the latest vzw updates. You can download this and flash with odin presumably
https://samfw.com/firmware/SM-N960U/VZW

I would recommend installing OS updates via OTA to avoid any issues. If by any rare chance that you do encounter an issue, I would recommend that you reinstall the OS manually using Odin.

[OTA Update] T-Mobile USA 5/10/11

Mentioned patching a security hole but nothing else that I saw. Just finished installing, version shows 7.0.7392.0
Fix for fraudulent third-party digital certificates. This update includes a critical fix to an industry-wide issue with nine untrusted digital certificates that were issued by one root certificate authority. These third-party digital certificates are used to access popular websites and email portals. Although this is not a Microsoft security vulnerability, these untrusted certificates may be used to spoof content, perform phishing attacks, or perform man-in-the-middle attacks against all web browser users. This update moves the affected certificates to the "Untrusted Publishers" certificate store on Windows Phone, which helps ensure that these fraudulent certificates are not inadvertently used.

That's all it's supposed to be and is. Just got it too. Glad I did as I needed a fresher backup
According to Walsh it also has other fixes though... I wouldn't doubt Microsoft just threw something in there, after all, they didn't mention a single bug fix in NoDo, though obviously there were some.
Issues with 7392 and phone battery life
I'm reading about some users in UK facing horrible battery life after 7392 update... not sure i want to update my phone.
People with stock TMo HD7, anything to report?
Oh and here is the link to the thread:

UPDATE:
Couldn't wait any more and updated it just now... will post back the results tomorrow.
my phone is updating as i type. back up is taking long to finish. probably because i have lots of files in it.
and its eating approximately 3gb of my disc space
is it safe if i cut and save the back up to a disc of a thumb drive?will it make a difference to paste back the files to its directory given that i need to restore my phone to its previous version?
thanks
updating mine now...will post results...
Updated my htc hd7 us tmobile here in uk all went well I just got the phone today can't see any battery issues. Loving this phone and I just came from a samsung galaxy s2 but I think this is better.

Sent from E.131st and Miles using XDA Windows Phone 7 App
Can someone just explain to me once I have this 7392.0 update installed do I need to update the firmware and radio and boot loader do these change with the zune software update or do I need to manually update them by flashing with a ruu installer, what's the difference between zune updates and the flashing the latest tmobile rom are they the same thing? Does anyone have a link to the latest tmobile us rom for htc hd7.

2016 Silverado - No Android Auto

Hi all.
I just leased a 2016 Silverado and was a little bummed to find out that Android Auto doesn't work out of the box, and my dealership seems to not know what the heck I'm talking about.
For anyone that has Android Auto working in the 2016 Silverado, can you post your Chevrolet MyLink version number (can be obtained from settings in the dash)
Just wanna verify if my version should have it or not.
My phone (Nexus 5x) goes into Charging mode from every USB port (not sure if all ports should work with auto or not, but I tried all three).
I have the projection icon in my dashboard, which is mentioned on the Chevy Android Auto press release (http://media.chevrolet.com/media/us...ws/us/en/2016/mar/0301-chevrolet-android.html), but it's also used for Apple Car play or whatever.
I know this article mentions needing an update but I literally leased it this Monday (3/14) and assumed they would update the dashboard before giving it to me, note that the press release was sent out on 3/1.
Anyway, if someone can provide that info to let me know if I'm going to be disappointed by taking it in for a dashboard update, that'd be appreciated.
Thanks.

I recently did the update on another Chevrolet vehicle and had to go through the trouble of explaning what android auto is in the process as well.
Try asking them to look up #16-NA-042. That is the service bulletin number that they have the access to.
So for anyone else in my boat, I did indeed need an update. Android auto is pretty awesome so far. Google music and maps on the dash is super fun
I just did the update on my 16 chevy Malibu with mylink
How long did it take for the update? The letter I got said 30 minutes, but I just made an appointment, and they said it takes 2 hours...
1hr
I had the update done last week and it does not work on my s6 edge. I have been rummaging through forums because I thought it was my phone at first. I have tried eberything. My phone is up to date with marshmallow and everything but still have not found a answer to why it will not connect. I too have a 2016 Silverado. So at this point I think that the dealer botched the update. Like Stipo stated above if anyone with an updated working AA mylink could post the version number so I can check to see if they did indeed screw up update I would greatly appreciate it!
So it took me a while to get it to work on my Tahoe... There were two things I changed, so if you haven't tried these, try them:
1. If "fast charge" is enabled in the battery settings, you will need to pull down the notification shade and switch to a data and charge mode from charge only. (this is S7 specific, but a similar step should be required on all MM phones.)
2. I tried several cables before I had a stable connection that didn't immediately disconnect. I actually bought a new Anker cable.
Also, make sure you have it paired over Bluetooth. Mine does not connect until the Bluetooth connection is complete.
Where do I find the mylink version number? I'll look later today and report back later...
Settings---->Software Information---> Software number should be shown. Thanks for your help
Software: 84089010
Gracenote: 23199236
Map: 23346621
Thanks for checking for me. Anyone else that has had the update please share so we can compare depending on model. My software number is different from yours (23415883) but my grace note is the same (what ever that means). I own a 2016 silverado...idk of software numbers differ between models. I called chevy yesterday and sounds like the dealer screwed up the update blahhh going again next week. Fingers crossed.
Android auto communication error 7
I got my 2016 silverado updated. (Took the dealer two times to get it right) so now in settings right below apple play I see android auto. But when I connect my galaxy note 4 I get a communication error 7 that says my cars software did not pass android autos security settings check list. Has anyone else seen this?

There seem to be a lot of problems with Samsung Marshmallow Devices lately. If you check the Androidcentral forum's you'll see Samsung seriously ****ed things up with their marshmallow update. I guess you'll have to wait until they fix it or use a custom rom.
I have a 2016 Silverado 3500HD and does not have the Icon. I was told that a certain quantity of 2016MY Silverado 1500/2500/3500 and Sierra 1500/2500/3500 trucks were
built without Apple Car Play and Android Auto compatibility. I also was told at this point there is no plans for an upgrade but that doesn't mean there won't be. I was told also it is on the window sticker that it didn't have it and there was a $200 credit given because of it on the sticker price. So if you are one with no Icon then you just have to put up with the frustration of not having it like me.
its 2019 and yes i have something to say about this
just bought a CPO 2016 silverado LTZ.. everything you're describing im having trouble with also. i cant find anyone or any thread to help me. i even took it to the service station today since i bought it Saturday. they cant help me with the issue. blame it on my phone. i can get my phone to pair with the truck and make calls and play pandora. but when it comes to using android auto. its like my phone doesnt exist. im using the factory USB cord. i tired both of my phones my S6 and my S9 still nothing. theres no icon for android but there is for apple carplay. the tech at chevy was able to use his apple phone but that doesnt help me. if you have an answer to this PLEASE PLEASE let me know. thank you. btw its running the latest update

my my maps, software and the other is different from yours. idk what to do. chevy said everything is up to date. when its clearly not. my numbers are way under everyone elses. including the update
If AA is not shown in the mylink settings then it needs updated to have AA. My 16 Camaro was without and I was able to get the dealership to update it.
Not sure how the Silverados are treated but with the Camaros they offered the upgrade free for a limited time then after that time started charging for the upgrade. Think gm included a charge code for the labor then stopped giving the dealerships the codes so the labor cost was on the dealership. I was able to find a dealership that did it free of charge. Hope this helps anyone.

When I brought mine in for the update, I got in the truck to test it and it didn't work. The software update had to be done again. It takes 45 minutes to upload into the truck. Make sure you are using a phone manufacturer cable. I used on of my "good" charging cables and it does not work, I have an LG thinQ8. it only works with my LG cable. the update can fail, don't let the dealer tell you otherwise.

In Canada - Bought AT&T model online - Unable to update

Hello everyone,
Just go a LG-W280A online (Nougat, 7.1.1, NQF43E) and trying to get it to update to Oreo, but no luck so far.
The watch does download the update, but when it comes to install it, it fails verification it seems. I've been through the process at least 5 times already, with a factory reset of the watch in the middle.
Anybody else in Canada have this problem? Is Oreo worth it? If it breaks Google Pay, no, and it's the main reason I bought the watch.
Any help or tips would be appreciated.
Well, it seems patience is the key. I left my phone and my watch charging one beside the other for a few hours. I went to check if an update was available, and was greeted with the "Reboot to install?" prompt.
It took 4-5 times.
I'd say if you come across the same problem, just keep at it. It will work.

I'm from italy...same problem...4 time i download the update (780 MB transferred from bluetooth to watch everey time...oh my god! ), every time the update doesn't pass the verification.
i try this night with a vpn centered in USA.
Hello again,
@stefal639 I assume that it will do the same as mine. Just keep at it, the update will work eventually.
I can confirm that Google Pay in Canada still works after the Oreo update (Wear OS 1.2, 8.0.0, OWDL.180126.012).
I solve shutting off the Bluetooth and I use the direct download from server to watch by wifi.
All ok

How to OTA update to 9.0 Pie before its rolled out to your country (VPN Trick)

This was posted in other Nokia phone forums before but I thought I would put one here based on information I've obtained myself.
Tested by myself on a TA-1060. Should work with other models but I'm not guaranteeing it.
I claim no responsibility for anything that might happen to your device if you update. Updating with modified boot (Magisk/custom kernel) or custom recovery (TWRP) may render your device unusable until you flash stock firmware.
Some of these steps might not be needed, they are simply what worked for me. Feel free to optimize the list if you want.
First of all, check for updates. If it's available in your country congrats you don't need to do anything.
If not:
Remove all SIM cards from your device. This is important because the device will get country information from SIM if one is present.
Download a free VPN app (ExpressVPN and ProtonVPN are good ones I recommend). I personally used ProtonVPN.
If your VPN app has a setting to block internet until the VPN connects, enable that. Also enable connecting on startup if you can. If not, remember to turn the VPN on as the first thing you do after booting later.
Setup your VPN so it will connect to a country that the update has rolled out to. I used India, some other countries like Netherlands may also work.
Disable WiFi.
Go to Settings and delete App Data from the following apps:
Google Play Services
Google Services Framework (Enable "Show system" on the menu)
Software Update
Reboot your device.
Connect to WiFi and make sure your VPN is connected as soon as possible.
Check for updates.
If it all worked, you should be offered the Pie 9.0 update and can install it as normal.
Do not insert your SIM until the update has completed or it may cancel it. Once you've booted into Pie successfully, you can reinsert your SIM card.
Thx for the info.
Does Pie improve performances in your experience? Otherwise, I don't wanna bother.

Yes, Pie includes performance optimizations which cause the system to be a lot snappier and to perform better. Obviously it won't perform any miracles (This device is limited by its hardware after all), but from my personal experience there was a noticeable improvement.
Keep in mind that just after the update it will still be doing things in the background, takes a few minutes for it to settle afterwards.
Thanks you! It worked for me, i live in Italy and today i did the upgrde to Android 10 go edition. Sorry for my bad english, i'm only 13. Bye
Is the Mediatek chipset inside this thing really that bad? On paper, this phone seems to have more or less the same hardware as the very first Moto G. However, the OG Moto G was usable as a daily driver ( It was the first ever usable budget Android), this one is not.
Software has always been the weak point of HMD. I wish the custom ROM community was still as active as it used to be in the past. Imagine how awesome it would have been if we could cook up some light KitKat ROM for this thing.

Im suspecting that my WiFi connection is blocking me from getting OTA updates.

Ever since I got my phone, I've always had to go to a UbreakiFix store to update my phone, because every time I check for updates I get a message saying that my software is up to date. My phone is still on the December 2020 patch with One UI 3.0. That last time I had to update, a UBreakiFix store was able to do it. That store is about an hour away from me though.
I've connected to Smart Switch on my PC and it also claims that my software is up to date, even though I know for a fact that isn't the case.
I've had a lot of problems with my WiFi, such as WiFi calling not working, to things like online gaming not being possible because of NAT restrictions.
I have no access to the WiFi settings, as I am renting a room out of a house and the homeowner is the one with full control of the network. It's a Netgear Orbi mesh system. I have tried tweaking settings in the past, but only under their supervision. I couldn't ever get online gaming or WiFi calling to work. What's even more frustrating is that AT&T only allows you to check for updates only once every 24 hours.
What would be a good way to test my theory? I need a WiFi network that would allow OTA updates to be downloaded, and I need to be able to check for updates. Any ideas?
Also, is Smart Switch always right about updates?
TLDR; Phone claims it's up to date when it isn't and I suspect my WiFi network is the problem. Need to test that theory.
Connect to any wifi at a store or cafe or friend/relative house. Many cable isp offer wifi connection outside of home try that.
Are you sure that at&t pushed out newer update?

The most recent update with OneUI 3.1 got halted by Samsung but I need the security patch update, not the OneUI 3.1 update. So then if that update is pulled, is it possible that I wouldn't be able to receive the January security patch too?

the 3.1 update has already begun rolling out again, I got it myself a few days back. you're in New Mexico ? when I was in the states Wendy's had unlocked Wi-Fi (if you can actually go in there is another matter) but just outside a building with open Wi-Fi should be enough to run an update check.
or if you can stand the agony of waiting longer on a download, try a free VPN app to check and download.
Actually I'm from Seattle, I just need to change my details on my profile. I used to live in New Mexico.
I've heard that the update is only rolling out in Europe right now.
that might be true honestly I don't know. but if you're still behind on previous security updates they should be waiting for you.
worth giving a vpn a try for one off use.
many if not most of the free ones do sell users data and some even ask for device usage permissions which they don't need at all, so maybe test your theory and then delete it.
I called AT&T, they mentioned nothing about being able to push an update, they said that if the baseband and the build number match that I am up to date, and they referred me to Samsung. Samsung said that "not all S20 FE devices are receiving the January security update, not to worry, your device is up to date."
No. It isn't. They both couldn't be any more wrong.
UPDATE: After some googling I found this page of Samsung S20 FE firmware images, but ATT isn't in that list.
