[GUIDE] An updated guide about unlocking your redmi note 8 bootloader - Redmi Note 8 Guides, News, & Discussion

Hello all,
I present to you my new and updated guide on unlocking your Redmi note 8 bootloader.
Warning: any changes you choose to make are your responsibility, I'm not to be held accountable of any damaged or bricked phones and dead SD cards, you choose to make modifications to your device and these modifications can brick you device.
For the last time if you don't know what you're doing I advise you to learn about bootloader unlocking .
That said, let's begin:
You might not know but Xiaomi doesn't require you to apply for unlocking you bootloader anymore which is why I'm making this guide.
On another note remember that this process will wipe all data from your phone
And be careful charge your battery to a sufficient degree (about 80%) to avoid you device shutting down in the middle of that process that would be a shame really and proceed step by step to insure that you haven't missed on anything
Ok, here we go:
1. Enable developer options
2. Enable "OEM unlocking" & "usb debugging"
3.Login in to your Xiaomi account from within your phone and make sure the account is linked to your phone (it is located in additional settings -> developer settings -> Mi unlock status (it should say added successfully)
4. Download the Xiaomi unlock tool to your computer: https://en.miui.com/unlock/download_en.html
5 .Reboot your phone to fastboot mode ( by pressing volume + power ) on boot
6.Connect your phone to your PC and launch the Mi unlock tool (while in fastboot mode)
7. Login from within the app with your credentials
8.After that follow the instructions the program tells you
Remember this process is very long lasting it could take up to 720 hours to unlock the bootloader ! You can still use your phone in that period of time
For more info, here is the source I took all of is info from: https://c.mi.com/thread-1635834-1-1.html
If there is anything I missed or got wrong please feel free to correct me on anything regarding this procedure
Goodbye !
I successfully unlocked my device following the method above and it took me 6 days of waiting but it was worth it

I don't think that is what they advise, you must be using your phone in a normal conditions since the 7 days waiting time is made to prevent bulk rebranding (localization changes)

I wasn't aware of that ! thanks for the feedback
I will correct the post

This essentially the same as what's posted here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/re...de-unlocking-bootloader-twrp-rooting-t4031831

Well the whole guide is....let's say misleading....but I won't blame you coz you read the source post on that mi community....actually you're still required to apply for permission to unlock bootloader...but....only if you have a new mi account...if you have an old mi account from which you already applied for permission once doesn't matter 2 years ago or 5 years ago, you won't be needing any more permission for that account...but for new accounts you still gotta apply for permission.

Hello, thanks for your feedback, that said, with all the respect, I think you might be wrong because I've read in multiple sources that xiaomi doesn't require the unlocking permission anymore simply because their webiste doesn't display any info about unlock permission and it just prompts to log in to your xiaomi account and that's all.
However I've done some research and all I could find is articles which state that it's not required anymore.
Here is one of the sources I read: https://c.mi.com/thread-1857937-1-1.html
If you would please further clarify the process so that I could better understand.
Thank you !

is there anyway to unlock bootloader without permission on miui 10?

One of my friend has redmi note 3 kenzo
It would be very helpful if someone has a trick to unlock bootloader without permission.
I think there is no need of permission for old devices for unlocking bootloader.
One of my friend has Redmi note 4X and was able to unlocked without asking for permission.
even this worked for his Redmi 3S but with 72hours of waiting time.
Just logged in into Mi unlock tool with same account as in device and your friend should be able to unlock bootloader (maybe not right away but with several hours of waiting time)
Problem isn't that
Problem is :- He is not able to add his mi account from developer option for oem unlocking.
An error occur always.

Yes, right. Log in in Mi unlock tools on PC with the same account as in the phone and then connect phone in fastboot mode but first make sure oem unlock is enable and usb debugging is turned on. ignore the account log in in phone.
just give it try.

Log out of mi account in your phone, log in again, associate that account with your device then try unlocking the bootloader. Worked for me that way.

Don't be confused. Older devices are unlockable without even applying(i am saying this on my experience) i have unlocked two of my friends Redmi 3S and Redmi note 4X without even applying to xiaomi.
never devices needs to have permission to unlock and it takes time and request can get rejected if the it does not meet their conditions.
if you have old device such as more than a year or more.
Just download and install Mi flash tools and you are good to unlock but it still shows error of 50% or stuck at 99% so you'll have to unlock after remaining hours which will show on mi unlock tools.
I just used this method to unlock my Mi Max 2, Miui 10

Its most likely server error from xiaomi as it happens many times and almost everyone faced it whoever tried to unlock i guess.
Please try again later and if possible try and connect to different WiFi network before adding account.
Also you can just give it a try by enabling USB debugging, oem unlock turned on from developers options and then just turn off your device and boot into fastboot mode and try unlocking it, regardless of adding mi account.
You should also try some different versions of mi unlock tools(preferably older version).
As i have mentioned it worked without even adding account and it took 3 days to unlock as it was getting stuck at 50% or 99% and was asking to wait for 72 hours and later it unlocked in first try so this should work for you too.
There is unofficial way to unlock bootloader please search on XDA/YouTube or some other websites.
I am exactly facing the same problem please help

Hi, I have xiaomi 9 pro, I unlocked it successfully after getting the permision, tried to flash it following all the instructions, and at the end it showed error "Not catch checkpoint (\$fastboot -s *lock)" and the phone does not turn on anymore... so it is locked and I cannot ask for another permission... any suggestions how to fix that?

See. This is why you should flash WITHOUT locking BL in MiFlash, if something goes wrong u can do it again but if you have locked BL, then you probably need to use EDL

I wasn't able to solve any problem with the EDL point yet. Sorry to say that. Therefore, as Marcelsky said, don't lock your phone by flashing. Pay attention to the button in the Mi Flash. Otherwise may the phone stuck in the bootloop, or will not start and ..

[NEED HELP BAD] Couldn't verify device: Can't get info. Can't unlock my bootloader

So 3 months after I got the phone, I tried to unlock the bootloader about 2 weeks ago, and got the timer (168 hours). Now when I tried to unlock it again, it's mostly giving me (Like 9.5 out of 10 times) a "Couldn't verify device: Can't get info" Error at 50%. There are rare instances when it goes beyond 50% and stops at 99% it will give me the following error (please see attachments).
I've tried everything from:
1. Re-linking my account in "Mi Unlock Status"
2. Removing fingerprints and lockscreen
3. Running unlock tool with admin rights
Could this be because I may have disabled some background apps or some of the apps I installed? I did leave Mi Cloud and Mi Account Sync on along with Find my device. If yes, then would a factory reset solve this problem?
I don't know what to do anymore :crying: . If anybody could help that would be greatly appreciated
Xiaomi sucks i had the same problem i got my phone 1 month earlier and everytime i tried to unlock they doubled the wqiting time in total im gettingv2 months of waiting and still im not sure after thzt, they will not add more time. They ducks with their unlock process, we want it to unlock this **** why making it complicated ? Chinese bastards

Download an earlier version of the unlock tool from here and try unlocking with the earlier version https://c.mi.com/thread-2262302-1-0.html
Some people have reported that using an older version works in these cases.
Use the miflash_unlock-en-2.3.803.10 version, it'll work!

You probably need to use a VPN service. I had similar problem with my MIX 2 and I had used Plex VPN and then only could unlock bootloader
Thank you to everybody who gave advice. It was weird, since what I did was:
1. Logged into the Mi Cloud website with my Mi Account
2. Checked if my phone was online
3. Tried the Find Me option, and was able to locate it (scary stuff and one of the reasons why I'm unlocking my bootloader)
4. Left it for a day and when I tried to unlock the following day, I was able to unlock it immediately
Seriously, the unlocking process of Xiaomi phones is a bit tedious and varied.

I will agree on the tedious unlocking process. The last phone I will buy from them will be the Android One ones (A1/A2/A3). I had a fuss-free experience with my A1.

Unlock Xiaomi redmi 9

Hello, in need of some help.
I am having a great deal of difficulty in unlocking the bootloader on my Xiaomi redmi 9. I've completed all of the steps that Xiaomi ask customers to do and that any expert I've seen on YouTube doing. But after two weeks I still can't even get to the dreaded wait two weeks to unlock stage, if I could then I'd be a happy man!
I've got developer options sorted, turned on oem and debugging, linked my account to the mi unlock in developer settings, device found and on. Also updated drivers on my windows 10 laptop, signed in to my account on the mi unlock program, set phone in fastboot and then the unlock program verifies my device, but at 100% it keeps on giving me the same response ( please add your account in miui's settings-developer options-mi unlock status) which is crazy because I've completed all of the required steps and then some more steps to try and get past this can't unlock message. Also tried older versions of the unlock tool, but no luck.
Any help with this would be greatly appreciated, or a direction to go in to help me unlock the phone. I've contacted mi customer service for help, but they keep sending me the steps that I should follow to get unlock status and I've tried this a thousand times!
Bootloader unlocking guid/ Binding Account
First signout mi account,
Then reboot phone,
Then open developer option and click on
mi unlocked status
Then add your account here,
Now it's successfully binded
Then rest of the process do with laptop or computer
Hi, thanks for responding. I've just tried that and unfortunately it's the same outcome, 'couldn't unlock'
are you using Redmi 9 with NFC version ?

yes its version problem, there was a lot of people reporting can't unlock bootloader for redmi 9 NFC version
for more detail maybe you can check post in this here with title 'Redmi 9 Root'
Thanks for the help. So I've bought a phone to root and it looks like I've bought the only one in the world that you can't even unlock the bootloader on ??*. I wondered why I couldn't find any more information. The phone is still under a month old, I might see if I can return it, ffs!
same here was happy about the price 101€ only but now i will return it too... i don´t want to have a phone without root

I had the same problem as you described.
Today, I did log off my MUI account from the phone settings and logged in again.
I started "mi unlock status" under development settings and added my phone.
Booted into fastmode and started the mi unlock program and got the message "please wait 168 hours ..."
In the past, I did always receive the message "add your account in mi unlock status"
I'm not sure, what did the trick:
logoff and login or just had to wait, that xiaomi fixed their unlock process.
Hopefully, I will get the phone unlocked in a week.
*fingers crossed*
I received information from the technical support that only one phone number must be active on the smartphone, the one assigned to the account. Secondly, if it still does not work, try several times until it shows the time to unlock.
It worked for me.
successfull unlock

Hello, thanks for your info on the 168 hrs wait. I went back on and tried again and got the 168 hrs wait too. I messed it up the first week and must have signed out, so I had to wait another week. Anyway unlocked now, but I'm having just as much of a problem trying to flash twrp to my phone. In command prompt every downloaded file I've tried and used won't recognise the prompts, can't get past the prompt fastboot devices or ADB devices! So can't find my phone to enable flashing twrp across and in turn I can't root my phone! It's driving me nuts.
Usb debugging on
Ptp selected
Windows drivers find my phone
But still having problems when trying to use command prompt in platform tools ?
lock
How can I lock it again ?
i have waited 168 hrs now its telling to wait 168 hr again...what can i do
the answer is,you have to wait,or contact xiaomi, lol.

Question Boot loader unlock help

Good day to you all
I have recently bought myself this lovely device, unfortunately mine came as a single sim model from my network provider.
I have tried following the guide for unlocking in the "How to" section, but I fail to get passed the point where one must check the Mi-Unlock status of the device.
If anybody can help me with this I would be grateful.
Thanks in advance
This Is the result i get from the unlock tool
Ok so I have found my problem.
I worked out that Find Device setting was enabled and was blocking the Unlock procedure.
I disabled it and tried unlocking again. This time I got the wait 168 hours to try again message.
Progress!!!
I hope this can help somebody else that is having the same issue
Can you tell me the steps you used in unlocking your note 10 pro bootloader ,I still don't understand how to do it well
Disable Find my Phone, Enable developer options, enable OEM unlock and Check MiUnlock status in developer options.
Download MiUnlock tool from Xiaomi website, do not use 3rd part website. Install it onto any pc and check for updates. You will need a Mi Account for this. Use these same credentials to log into the Mi Account on the device before the next step.
Enable USB debugging in developer options and reboot to bootloader. Connect the phone to the pc and start MiUnlock tool. Follow the prompts till the unlock process fails. The tool will give you a message to wait 168 hours before trying again. Do not reboot your phone during this time. This is 7 days wait. Use this time to back up your phone and save any data you need from the phone.
This is where I have got up to so far. Another 6 days to go.

Hello, I recently got this amazing phone and was thinking about unlocking the bootloader and flashing Magisk.
How do I find out my remaining time left for unlocking the bootloader? I feel like I could unlock right now because I could bind my account to my phone straight away, although I might be just dumb and it gets binded immediately. Thanks.
Xiaomi tool.
USB debugging enabled
Accounts: add a MiAccount.
Disable Find My device * very important* otherwise bootloader unlock is blocked.
It takes 7 days. Do not reboot or power down the device for this time. Unlocking is done twice. 1 to start the countdown and 2nd to complete the unlock.
Search the forum for instructions on unlock process.
You can check your unlock status in developer options. If prompted use your MiAccount credentials.

Question i haven't found the device 11T (without Pro) - UNLOCKING Bootloader!

Hello Xiaomi Community,
I've been trying all day to unlock the bootloader of my 11T (not to be confused with the "Mi 11") but without success... Developer options are active, OEM and USB debugging are enabled. However, I noticed that after I connected the account and device and closed the settings, the Mi unlock device keeps resetting. That is, when I reopen the developer options, it looks like I never connected my account and device.
Is this normal or is this the fault and what can be done?
Have it with various tools (Win10: xiaomi-bootloader-tool; Mediatek-unlock-tool, XiaoMiTool V2, MiFlash Tool) and (Linux: Xiaomi ADB&Fastboot Tools, ADB&Fastboot) tried, but after rebooting the smartphones it is still locked
I also went through a lot of tutorials step-by-step but it doesn't want to.
Am I making a mistake or is this possibly a bug in the system or something?
P.S. processor is a rather rare MediaTek here.
Hopefully someone can help I am grateful for every answer..

You may follow my guide till bootloader unlock.. it should for all xiaomi devices:

Hi All, as this device is fairly new and there is not much clarity on things so, I decided to create a master guide as you see below. I am also attaching a PDF version of this guide as I have not formatted this XDA post to what I feel it should...

The Waiting Time, that you describe, is the Problem. Da liegt der Hase im Pfeffer, we say in german
I have done the preparatory work more often then i can count... It seems like the Time is resetting itself automatically again and again :/ this sucks..
In certain parts Xiaomi is a absolutely catastrophe.. in comparison with, for example, Huawei.

Don't do anything for 7 days. It will reset if you plugin and try to unlock in between.
Click to collapse
No it won't. It will show you the time left to unlock. The only thing that will reset the counter is readding the mi account in dev settings. And that's exactly what OP did trying to unlock over and over again each time it failed ignoring the 168 hours waiting time. Judging from his description.
Removing/replacing the sim card is also a bad idea during the waiting time as it is tied to your Mi account.
You just need to add the unlock account in dev options and wait.
