Is this worth buying? - ASUS ROG Phone II Questions & Answers

There's an ad with a ROG 2 512gb/12gb for sale but the owner said he dropped it and broke the screen, it will not turn on but he said it still makes sound. According to him that's all he believes is wrong with it. He said he would sell it to me for $400 with original box and accessories, hes had it for about 3 months.
Is it worth it?
Thanks,
Chad

So $400 for a fulset but broken 12/512 ROGPHONE 2?
Depends on where you are and how you plan to get the screen fixed.
In Indonesia the 12/512 Brand New costs $757 with the current USD to IDR rates. And the 8/128 costs $515.

Yes he agreed to $400 and to his knowledge it is just the screen. Would you take the chance? Obviously my concern is if there's a good chance something else damaged as well.

Im sure the screen itself is gonna cost $150... Its like a car. After crashing, no matter how good the repair is there will be more issues...
Id rather get a new one or stick to the Pixel 3 XL

No... I would sell it for at least $200

I saw one of those on ebay starting 150$, mint in 200$. I want to buy one :3
If he's your best friend, just give it to him for free. If he's a good friend, $165 is a good price, I just bought one for that price. If he's a crappy friend, $180-$200 depends on the condition of the phone. I would only pay $200 for a Nexus S if it has original box, accessories, and at least 9/10 condition though. Just make sure its a one time payment only.

Buy from XDA or Swappa, avoid ebay for used phones if you can unless there are lots of photos and a detailed description, speaking from experience here.
I snagged one up on ebay for 120 they have been going for less nowa days. 150 wouldn't be bad..
That is a bit low for a good quality GSM version, I can understand the Sprint version being that low.

Really I love this phone but I just picked one up for $75 on Craig'slist. Its my second nexus s4g because my last ones power button died. But let's be honest the hardware is being pushed to its limit and for the same $165 with some searching you could find a galaxy nexus. Like I said I love this phone and wouldn't trade it for anything but the price is kinda high.

I think you should give him this at 165$ because he will feel glad and There's noot mych Difference between 165$ and 200$.Business with the whole world but not with your Friends...So Give him this at 165$ and he would get happy Too.Now all Depends On You.
i think 165$ is fine, in my country the used nexus s (97-98%) with box and accessories is only 150$ because it's m200s :good:
i think that 165 $ are a good price! in Italy Nexus S is sell at 179€
Good is good...but with 80$ plus you can find the Galaxy Nexus so if you have to sell it 165$ is a good price
I plaid $40 for mine, 2 weeks old from my friend, just the phone though.

You guys are all completely INSANE asking $150+ for a nexus s!!! You can easily find them on ebay for $60....they are a dime a dozen. Anyone who pays that much for a phone that's two generations old (and beyond EOL) should be b!tch slapped to oblivion.

This is for the next auction ending on ebay....5 hours left and still only the 1cent opening bid.

Yeah...looks like the bidding is ruthless and there's no hope to find one for under $100, right?

Did you read the description? It's missing parts of the bezel. The power button doesn't work. I said *good condition*. Also, do a search of the "Completed Items" for a better feel of what they are selling at. I'm seeing most around the $110-$160 range...
Try these:

The CDMA (Sprint) version is way cheap, but the GSM is easily $150. I just spent the last couple weeks shopping for one and, yes, the bidding IS ruthless. You will be VERY hard pressed to find a good condition GSm Nexus S for less than $150. It's not impossible, but you would have to have the cash on hand and be very patient.
What you will not find, though, is even a Sprint version for $60. Well, not one that works anyways.

I bought my NS4G used in good condition (insignificant scratches on screen, with a protector on, invisible) for 85 with free shipping. Most NS4Gs go for about 85-95 on ebay. I wouldn't pay more than 100 for one in excellent condition.

Bottom line:
4G > Cheap. Nobody wants CDMA phones
GSM > Not cheap. Nexus S still selling very well as decent replacements
Even similar phones, Galaxy S for instance, will share similar pricing.

Best Buy trade-in still offering $250 and up for good condition N4!

I figured there might be some people that were looking to sell their N4 soon or were caught off guard by Google lower the price $100 and ripping that resale value away from them.
Apparently though BB trade-in is still offering:
$262 for perfect condition
$250 for good condition
Hope this helps :fingers-crossed:

I hate to come across as overly skeptical, but their FAQ mentions paying for return shipping on the devices, so I feel compelled to dig in a little deeper.
The SKU corresponds to this device: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/LG---Go...ile)/7408045.p?id=1218844837055&skuId=7408045 which is the 16GB model.

I dont really understand your logic here.. Do you expect the phone to stay at the launch price forever? Its not unheard of prices dropping if sales decline or new product being released..

I don't see why you got aggravated here but OP didn't complain. He just said what the truth is. Obviously none of us saw that coming from Google. Perhaps he made this thread for those who were skeptical about selling (before N5 launches) or keeping the device and if Google's decision of slashing the price made such people a little upset, they can use OP's link and take full benefit from it.

After being blessed by the HOLO when I get a new HOLO device I actually give my old ones away, and spread the word of Matias Duarte
My friend was all like you know they sell this galaxy nexus for 500 on ebay. I told him "My lamb that is not a HOLO device that is a verizon one and is not recommended, take this and give me that HTC desire." I then I plus'ed Matias Duarte and we chanted HOLOYOLO together and burned that device to a cinder
True story
My parents loved the OG nexus 7's I gave them, want to talk about no resell value that right there

I wasnt aggravated.. just as I stated, no item sold by anyone will keep their current launch prices.. even cars, dealers see sale decline, they push out promos or lower prices... if you think Google will keep the phones at their launch prices, then you are naive (not really directed to you but to anyone who thinks this way)..
This is just my opinion... and leave it at that....

They gave a gift card available to use instore.
The best thing you can do is you can purchase two visa gift cards for 5.95 for each because the max limit on visa card is $200
so what you can get $250 cash at the end
262 -6 -6 = $ 250
good deal for a 9 month old phone

Why is the prices rising for this phone on Amazon?
Most likely because their stock is running low and demand is increasing

Are you sure? Motorola doesn't sell anything directly on Amazon.
For example the white 32gb model is being sold at 329.99, and says this "Ships from and sold by Talk-Time".
I bought the exact same model about a year ago for 249.99 and said "Ships from and sold by Amazon".
You won't find any ships from and sold by Motorola, Amazon or any other big retailer anymore.

As I've said in other posts... the Nexus 6 is still a quite relative phone to use. Save for battery life, there is little to distinguish the performance between this phone and brand new phones in day to day usage. I still use my White 64gb along with my Pixel XL.

New deal on N9 - Feb. 2019

Should I go for it?, only a few hours to decide:
$1050 for the 512gb and you get the tablet? That's a good deal in my eyes. If I didn't already have the N9, I would be all over this.

Saw it @ Android Police :

now, if I may suggest, am kinda weary about hidden traps - after you open that Amazon page click on ( New (1) from $1,049.99 & FREE shipping. Details ) line below and that opens another page where you can specify(check boxes) the phone you're buying to be new. I saved that page 'just' in case if they ship another refurb.
Not worth it imo. I paid $935 for my 512 gb with headphones pre-ordered. You can get a 128 gb on eBay for $649 or so brand new in box. $400 is not worth the 512 gb to me

I'd be very happy if it goes for $190 - $200 in orig. pckge.
I think I changed my mind for a galaxy watch....
Well, the Feb. '19 deal came and went...,literally - I just repacked it for a return back to Amazon. So, I'm updating the thread: the N9 phone I've purchased, just as I suspected, wasn't new. By checking the IMEI and registration @ Samsung I found out that it was assembled in Aug. '18 and the warranty was to expire in Oct. '19., that means it had at least one owner. The IMEI SV was at 04 which wasn't that bad and the phone was in really good, clean condition but I decided to send it back. I like the N9, great phone but they shouldn't wrongly advertise their stuff on Amazon. That's fine, am looking forward into 2019, the market is getting so saturated with all those 'battleships' of smartphones that the deals will only get better.

No, I didn't. But I played with the phone for a few hours, downloaded some apps and really had a hard time to put it back into the box for a return. Nice phone, no doubts about it, but I figured I didn't actually buy this phone, the deal was about buying the new Tab A 10.5", I don't have any use for it right now, for a full price of $250 and additionally they were offering me a secondhand Note 9 for a discounted price of $800, plus tax, of course. Nice try. I'll wait for some good deals around 'black Friday', or sooner, on 2019 phones.

I had the phone on hand when they delivered it, so I did the usual "about phone" lookup, the Knox, kernel etc.. and all that was fine, except the IMEI SV number at 04 was too high for a brand new phone - the software underwent some changes or modifications after it left the factory, the ideal number is 01. Then I went on the Samsung official website to "register a product" entered IMEI# and it told me when the warranty expires.

gotcha, the one i bought from ebay was really sketchy i think phone was legit but box was fake, accessories were fake and missing some, no books and phone was in a bag with no plastic. I returned and got another one for $649 hope it is a legit one! We shall see this week!
Edit: Samsung also has $300 off so plus my unidays discount and a few thousand Samsung points and got another for $657 with tax! And $200/40k reward points! Win win! I will probably sell one if you would like one let me know once you get your return taken care of

Price in EU (<€1200 now).

It's now sub 1200 Euros in Germany, if you look around a bit. Nearing 1100 in a few places.
Price has cratered harder and faster than any phone in living memory.
Samsung must be pumping these out of the factory pretty quickly, and not intending for new models to take as long as Fold 1 to Fold 2.
I can see this going below 1000 around Black Friday, and definitely by the New Year. If it's not already replaced by the end of Q1 '21, I'd imagine the phone might see significant development and community involvement, below 1k.
You're insane.
Sent from my SM-F916U1 using Tapatalk
Really, care to explain why? Lowest retail price has dropped over 700 Euros in less than 2 months.
Samsung are well known for front-loading pricing, and quickly tapering it to distributors and wholesalers, but it's never been quite like this. The device is clearly intended to sell in volume, and not be the flagship for anything like as long as the Fold 1.
Re: development, plenty of 800-1200 Euro devices see lots of development.

Not from a shop (several are offering them for €1.150 already) granted, but in Germany a lot of Z Fold2 have been included in a subscription renewal package where people just keep their current phone and monetize the Z Fold2.
I see the prices going down almost daily. It's a simple matter of supply and demand.
Check out https://www.ebay-kleinanzeigen.de/
The same thing happened with previous Samsung flagships.
LG devices also depreciate very quickly, but that is because noboby wants them and LG has to lower the RRP to sell them.

The €1200 price you mention is a scam. No one is getting the phone for that price.

I know it's probably a foreign concept, but supply chains and retail channels are relatively competitive in Europe .. particularly Germany.
Probably seems unreal to you when informal price fixing in a hugely non-competitive market rules in the US ... and you just got a Verizon Fold 2 for $$$$$$$$$$, with no hope of waiting for discounts.
Why do you think anyone with a clue in the US buys from European retailers? Price including tax in Europe (which you don't pay) is usually much cheaper than price excluding tax at US retailers, save for Apple. That's what no competition does.
And now you're mad and refuse to believe anything.

Those are pretty much all either used or branded / locked to a network.
Show me a link to a commercial seller who sells sim free new sealed box Fold2 including full 2 year official Samsung warranty ... if you can't then just delete this thread
Not true, as I have explained most of them are new in wrapped box with full Samsung European warranty.
And as far as I know no German provider sells these branded and/or SIMlocked.

Lol.
Are you really not able to use price comparison sites or enter search terms and use filters on Ebay?
Rhetorical question. Evidently not.

I don't think any contract phones have been branded / locked for 5-6 years in DE ... and he appears to be implying these are secondhand contract phones. I'm not even sure heavily subsidised pay as you go phones are branded anymore.
Lowest retail price for sealed NIB Fold 2 in DE is 1149.99 today. It has been lower. Trend is still downwards quickly though.
I bought one of these z fold 2 of Germany.
1215€ and came sealed... I activated Samsung care+
I dont know the reason of the low prize of those phones, but are real and legal.

I bought this Fold 2 for one month ago too in Germany ebay kleinanzeigen 1350 Euro) . some people buy buissness phone cards with a fold 2 and they sell the fold 2 and use the phone card.
Now it is sometimes a little bit cheaper but ok .... I use it for over a month now and I love this phone ! So great stuff Samsung did here ...
You can buy these used for around $1400 US off of Ebay (which is around 1250 Euro, which is what I see it for on the German eBay site). Hoping for a slight bit more of a price drop from Black Friday, but I noticed that Samsung is still selling it for its original price, and they've dropped the price of trade ins by around $200.
I don't know why anyone would have paid full price in the US as it was on sale the opening day at every possible outlet and you would have had to literally give them more money than they were asking for the device in order to pay MSRP; I paid 1600 directly from Samsung's site on pre-order for the unlocked variant and others did better. Day one the latest greatest is always going to be more expensive than it will be just a short time later; you all know that, I'm not telling you something you didn't know. You do need to put it on a level playing field though, you can't compare the MSRP here to the actual price somewhere else at a different time, you have to compare actual price at the same specific time in order to get a valid comparison.

I'm looking to buy it again, and I'm not seeing all these great deals. Samsung's site is $1999, unless you trade in a device. The deals on eBay are ok for a used device, but not great. Amazon has some refurbs for $300 off, which is ok, but again, it's a refurb, to which they only promise that you won't notice a problem "holding it at arm's length". I haven't seen any sign of a new unit coming down in price from $2k.

Be very wary of purchasing a phone tied to a network contract.
These phones may get blacklisted a few months down the line if the original owner doesn't pay the bill, or if they have insurance and claim a month or two later that it has been lost or stolen.
... I know this from experience ... you could end up with a 1000 euro "tablet" that cannot use a sim card anywhere in EU

It's good advice, and I am worried about it. I see a number of devices for sale that say they're on a contract. Kind of terrifying that someone decides to switch providers and suddenly my phone is blacklisted.
Starting to hope for a Black Friday sale!
