Error 255: can not install rom(s)

Hi Guys!
I've just started customising the phone after receiving it Friday.
I've unlocked the bootloader and installed twrp.
But now when I try to install a rom, I get error 255 and the installation is terminated immediately.
I found two mentions of this error:
- Unmount partitions in twrp
- make a change to a text file inside the roms zip file before installing it
I unmounted all partitions except sd card, did not work.
I looked inside the textfile in the zip but could not find the line mentiond in the post I found (it was for a different phone)
So now I'm stuck.
I do have the phone running the stock rom again and it may even be rooted (installing magisk worked) but have to check after putting the backup back.
Any thoughts?
I have tried two versions of aospExtended and cosmic
Edit:
Maybe the stuff is still encrypted?
What twrp are you using?
Ah, maybe there is some sort of answer immediately, thanks for the quick reply.
I took it from this page from check yourscreen:
https://androidfilehost.com/?fid=889964283620777591
But now notice that ...9 is not the most recent.... I read 15 and 16 as 1.6
Will try again shortly.
Can I install the newer one through twrp or should I use fastboot?
EDIT: version 16 is working!
Thanks so much

If you're coming from a decrypted data partition and then flash stock OOS and nothing else, it will re-encrypt your data. This could take a long time.
I recently did some testing of TWRP for fixing formatting and decryption (see https://forum.xda-developers.com/on...al-twrp-touch-recovery-t3742894/post78339714) and I did a totally clean install of OOS including formatting the data partition.
I used a TWRP version from this post https://forum.xda-developers.com/on...al-twrp-touch-recovery-t3742894/post78332159. The one I used is the very last one which is described as:
-----update2
This one fixes ext4 encryption on Pie: https://androidfilehost.com/?fid=11410963190603866112
PS: you can get the OOS 5.0.8 zip from https://www.oneplus.com/au/support/softwareupgrade

To Avoid Any Further Confusion , Could You Give me step by step instructions for what to do , please?
Please also give me details to which TWRP to use and all the configurations ( like ext4 or f2fs on system or data , whether to use format button, or advanced wipe) all that! Thanks in advance
Issue solved !!
How I solved ?
1. Using TWRP 3.2.2-0 I first Formatted data.
2.Then used advanced wipe to clean everything.
3.Then using change file system option in WIPE category changed my "data" partition from whatever to f2fs.
4.Then changed back to ext4.
5.Then changed back to f2fs.
6.Using PC transferred OOS zip file (5.0.8) to internal storage.
7.Flashed The file
8.Bingo !!! Phone booted up without a problem
Thanks @BillGoss , your provided links helped alot, though i used nothing from it but they helped me to recognize what the problem was, it was i think an encyption as well as changed file system format issue due to my previous flashing of pie roms.:good:

Mi 6X MIUI 10.2 swap to Android or MI A2

Hello, I recently bought the Xiaomi MI 6X and I want to install Android to replace the MIUI since I have certain limitations.
I have problems to install the Android image through the TWRP, after passing the image of TWRP to the cell phone with the command "fastboot boot twrp-3.2.3-1-wayne.img" the TWRP screen appears asking for a password, apparently it is encrypted, the strange thing is that I do not have a password on the phone and still ask me for the password, I have the option to swipe and go to the TWRP options, but when I'm in the options to install the image I can not see all the files / folders to find the image of Android that I copy in the internal memory, in addition to this I mark "0 BM Internal Storage" when I am scanning the files.
I really need your help to solve this problem, it is becoming a headache for me, help please!

you have to wipe data thats all i know. thats the way twrp can encrypt the storage.

Any recovery able to flash gapps?

I have tested some unofficial recovery, but none of those worked.
issues :
1. Touch doesn't response.
2. Only in pitchblack recovery touch worked, but doesn't shows internal storage files, just shows unknown inaccessible files which I don't have in internal storage.
So, does anyone know about a recovery with which I can flash gapps?, or any other way to flash gapps without root, like with pc?
Similar problem here. Unoffical TWRP doesn't respond to touch inputs for me, PBRP does. The garbeled letters inside your storage is probably because of the encryption of the phone.
I don't know on which version you are, but I downgraded to MIUI 11, there you can access the files, sometimes I have to enter my phone password, sometimes not.
It's still encrypted with "FBE" (File Based Encryption) though... At least my console is giving me that output. I can reach the files anyways and flash them, a few of them are working, but often I get errors while trying to flash different types of zip files. The errors are often because of this "FBE" encryption, so the recovery can't mount some partitions or can't access some files (Permission denied)...
But by now, I did not find any way or flashable zipfile (LazyFlasher, etc.) in the web that works to turn the decryption off.
the only build where touch works is 0108. https://androidfilehost.com/?fid=17248734326145712658

ROM: CRDroid 6.13
TWRP: 3.4.0-10 by mauronofrio
@M.WeWe
This sounds like the issue with early Pixel Launcher Mods.
When disabling / removing the module, it caused exactly your problem.
Is your device rooted, did you use such a model and removed it recently?
With a root explorer (or within TWRP File Manager), navigate to:
data/system and delete the "package_cache" folder, then reboot.
This fixed the described issue in the past.
I've been looking for a solution to the same problem for a month.
After installing recovery the memory was encrypted and No os warning came.
It's been in my phone for the last 3 years.
goddamn google
I don't know if I can find a solution without losing the memory.
My nerves are gone now.
When I install Aosp or stock rom, it restarts at startup.
I installed a middleware but could not access the memory.

Whenever you switch the ROM you have to (!) Format Data - it's described in any good guide for how to install a custom ROM to Xiaomi
Formatting Data (that includes also Internal memory) establishes the new filesystem for the new ROM, ie for its encryption - that's why Formatting (not Wiping - wiping wipes the files but keeps the old filesystem) is required
