Almost 6 years I retired the Tab S. - Galaxy Tab S General

I purchased the Tab S when they were first available. It served me well all those years. I writing this post on my brand new Tab S6. The Tab S still works, I'm giving it to one of my kids to play with. I hope I get as much use of this new tablet as I did with my old one.

I too got the Tab S6 a few months ago to replace the original Tab S 10.5.
Now I'm thinking of what to use the Tab S for since I like to reuse things. For example, my really old Tab 8.9 (Android 4) is currently a wall clock displaying weather and stuff. And my old Galaxy S6 smartphone is being used with my home security system.
Anyway, for whatever reason I just can't get myself motivated enough to perform a factory reset on the Tab S since I used the Tab S reliably for so many years. Once I do finally get the courage to reset the Tab S, I'll probably use it with my home security system.

Just retired mine, I went with the cheaper Tab s5e though. Seemed like a good upgrade, especially for 308$ inc tax brand new. Still waiting on samsung to ship it. HYPED! it's a crazy feeling using a tablet for 5+ years and finally getting a new one.

Galaxy Tab - Still worth it? (Sprint)

Hello everyone,
I have a Galaxy S phone and enjoy it very much, I've wanted a Tab since I first saw them, just without a contract.
I have noticed that Sprint CDMA models with Bad ESN's (100% OK with me) are going for 275-350 dollars, sometimes brand new.
Is it still worth it? Do you guys still enjoy them?
Thanks for your input.
not a bad price if you just wanna use wifi with em. I prefer gsm models because of the increased internal memory instead of the cdma tabs. Do you have Cricket in your area? You can have the tab flashed to Cricket for data.
I love mine, but it is also a perfect replacement for my notebook and G1. Smart phones are too small for my taste, and I didn't need a full notebook anymore. Gave those devices to my wife and went with a ticked-out tab. And for me, the size is perfect.
For me it is. My tab does everything (that I can think of) the xoom does. I use it for tv, kindle, browsing and taking notes. 7 inches is perfect.

I have:
G1. 3.7"
Streak. 5"
Galaxy Tab. 7"
Advent Vega 10"
And the galaxy tab is the one take everywhere.
Fantastic size. Like a small book.

Absolutely! I was a little concerned about the wireless connectivity before I got it but it's excellent. Like the previous post, I take mine everywhere. The other thing I like is that when I turn off the wifi/3g to read an e-book at night, I wake up and it's still fully charged.
I'm pretty sold on the tabs size versus a 10 inch.. its bigger without being to heavy or a burden.
It seems like it would be enjoyable with 2.2/2.3 for the foreseeable future.
My next consideration is to buy one unsubsidized or to get one with a 2 year contract... whats your guys opinions, would you feel comfortable at this point buying one with a 2 year contract?
Seeing how people went ape**** for a nook for 200$ if you can find a galaxy tab for 275-280 range, it is better buy.
My htc desire hd arrived last saturday. I then noticed that i need to upgrade my plan as the unit is hugging too much internet bandwidth so i went to my carrier to have my plan upgraded. To my surprise, i was given a galaxy tab for free as part of the new package. So i ended up with two new devices. I think galaxy tab will be a great device in my work and will come in handy with my htc desire hd if it runs out of juice. One downside i only noticed is the absence of skype video call for android OS. But i love this one

I just acquired a galaxy tab this afternoon. It is on verizon's network but I was hoping to flash it to cricket but I'm not really able to find any resources on this. Is there a tutorial on this?
if you're used to browsing on a smaller device, then move to this one, you will not go back and if you try something bigger, it will be great, but when you start thinking about taking it with you everywhere, you go back to the Galaxy Tab.
Oh, I dont regret it one bit. Even got 3g since its so super cheap, 20 a month, went with Verizon though due to the low low price on contract, 200 dollars. I definitely love it, the perfect companion to my galaxy s phone. Thanks for all the input though guys.
P.s i think we will start to see development go up due to these things finally becoming affordable. Lets face it, most people wont dump 600 or 800 dollars on a tablet.

Sprint tablet recovery
I have a sprint tab rooted and flashed with kaz' voodoo kernal. Aside from no market app, no auto screen rotation, it's faster even with out ext4. How can I safely recover to stock. Or is there a more complete kernal I can put in to get back to closer to normal functionality. Any help would be appreciated.
I had one over a year ago, traded it for a laptop, then sold it for like $300 or so.. kind of regretted it, it was a sprint model. saw a bad esn model on craigslist, but picked it up for $100 so now i'm trying to see how to flash it from verizon to cricket. Funny i have no problems with doing the phones from spring/samsung to cricket, but verizon isn't so easy.. what am i doing wrong hmm
This thread helped me so much I was also thinking Galaxy tab, but I wasn't sure is it worth it since I already have "smartphone". No I am sure that I choose this one )
Totally worth it! Specially if you like to tweak around. I call my tab "Lazarus", since I killed it and brought it back to live so many times
S & Tab Combo
I got a Galaxy S & Tab as a combo from Optus. I must say I do still do like the size of the Tab; big enough to read easily, small enough to fit in a jacket pocket.
Just upgraded the Tab to Ice Cream Sandwich. Nice upgrade and pretty stable. If you can get the Tab that cheap, it makes it hard to justify spending $600 on one of the newer 10" models.

New guy with new guy questions

I am an Evo 4G owner and love it .. I'm now in the market for a tablet. Is it better to get a honeycomb tablet or go with the Galaxy Tab and root it? I ask because I would really like to stay with Sprint but the Xoom is coming wi-fi only next week on Sprint. Looking for a little guidance here. Also, can I make video calls with the Galaxy Tab? Thanks Android fam!
Tricky question really....
The Galaxy Tab is a 7" device whereas the various Honeycomb Tablets that are appearing are all 10.1" devices. Is size a factor for you ?
The Galaxy Tab can be used as a phone (in the US you will need to root and modify it). I have been using my Tab as my only phone for 5 months now and can't imagine going back to using a 'regular' sized phone because the screens all look tiny to me now
A friend that works at Samsung told me that the new 10.1" and 8.9" Galaxy Tabs that are coming out soon will both be capable of making calls (again probably disabled in the US models).
I've played with an Acer Iconia 500 - 10.1" tablet running Honeycomb and it was a great experience, however its too big to carry everywhere and it doesn't have phone capability so it doesn't fit my needs.
So the question is how are you going to use it ? If you want something to sit at home then go for the new larger sized tablets, if you want something mobile to have with you all the time then the original 7" Galaxy Tab is the best option (especially if you get rid of your phone and use the tab instead).
Sean
Honestly, go for latest firmware. Many machine are already available with Honeycomb 3.0 so it would be wise to get the latest. Also, most of the machines running 3.0 come with dual core processor. That's my opinion.
Thanks for the info guys. My Evo is great and I am looking for a tablet to use more as a replacement for my laptop while on the move ... although using the galaxy tab for a phone does sound pretty good .. size wise, it sounds a little strange to use a tablet for a phone but I haven't went that way so I don't know ... I want to use it at home and on the go .. carrying a laptop everywhere has its advantages and disadvantages but the new tablets are going to be wifi only and that kind of defeats the purpose for me ... can the galaxy tab be rooted and used on 4G and are there roms that have honeycomb? Thanks for helping me out!
any other opinion or options?
If size dosen't matter for you then take a honeycomb tablet (iconia a500, asus transformer, galaxy tab 10.1...). Personnaly I like my galaxy tab 7, because of all the reasons listed by seanchk above.

I use my SGT 7" as a phone + tablet too, for the same reasons as above. Fair warning, the phone function works in speakerphone as a default unless you use the wired headset included in the package or buy a bluetooth headset which I do use.
~ A little thanks goes a looong way! ~
A 10" tablet to me is almost equivalent to the portability of a notebook for me. I have an ipad 2 (which my wife uses mostly now), and carrying it around was a hassle.
The tab is the perfect size because you can put it in your back pocket or your average jacket pocket. It's also nice to be able to hold it with one hand for an extended period without getting sore. The ipad 2 is a great device for using in bed but if I'm out and about, the galaxy tab is a lot more practical.

grukko, thanks for the input. I have been told that if I have an evo, I shouldn't bother with an android tablet. how do you feel on that comment? also, mobility is huge for me as this will be mainly used for on the go to replace having to carry a laptop everywhere. i am just wondering if the 10 inchers coming out on wifi only are going to be worth not having a 3G/4G connection.
also, I will be keeping my evo as I need a phone with unlimited minutes for business. i live in the US. just want to be happy and comfortable with my purchase.

As a Note owner, do you also own a full size tablet?

I once owned a HP TouchPad, but found my Note being the go-to device for my internet browsing needs... So I sold it.
I use my MB Pro for computing and heavy interaction with the web.
I still find myself intrigued with full size tablets, like the soon to be announced Samsung retina display tablet... But with the Note, will a device like that fall the way of my TouchPad?
So, do you have a full size tablet in your arsenal?

Yeah, i got an iPad 2 although its been getting used less since i got the note, but i still like it.
No. Sold my iPad 2 long ago and have zero interest in another tablet after getting the Note.
I thought about getting a smaller phone and a tablet. But since you don't want to carry both the whole time, the Note was the best decision.

I also have a Galaxy Tab 10.1 which i have picked up fro here.
Its great and i use it all the time at home for web browsing and youtbue.
So i find myself using the note less at home compared to when i only had the streak before.
hi guys, im not new here but i havent been on for some time now. i was living in the apple world. i just picked up a note. i knew this was the phone for me and i was right.
i trade a ipad2 for it and im not looking back. i had the sg2 before this and found myself not using the ipad anymore. i dont think i will get the ipad3 but you never know. anyway im a happy note owner.

Sold GTAB 7 bought GTAB 10.1; sold that bought Transformer Prime; sold that yesterday to buy nothing for some time. Galaxy Note does everything I want on the road, but on my couch a good 10 inch tablet is irresistible.
I also have an iPad 2 but haven't used it for months (even when I got the Note I hadn't used it for ages). In fact, I don't even know where it is
For me, the iPad doesn't offer enough functionality to carry it around. It's good for browsing the net on the sofa. But if that's all you want it for, you might as well go for one of the cheap $100 tablets. The iPad only beats them in areas that are useful for outdoors (screen quality outdoors, signal strength, storage etc).
For just browsing the net in your lounge, the cheapies are a great option.
Yes, same as DMax99, have Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 that I use at home for browsing internet and checking emails anywhere in the house, Tab stays home when I go to work to meet my clients and outside I use my Galaxy Note. I enjoy watching movies on Tab when I go to bed, love it. And I have 50" Pioneer Kuro plasma and Oppo Blue Ray player that is almost not used anymore
Selling Ipad2 as will probably get the 3 in March. Note is amazing tho. Does everything I need, even light gaming via PS3 controller, Streaming movies via Allshare to my 55d8k sam with excellent battery life. Overall a great device for me.
The note is my first Android and I am so happy with it that I decided to buy an Android tablet last week. I don't know what came over me to stop using my brain and buy a Sony product. I bought the Sony tablet S and as we speak it is all packed up in its box and goes back Monday.
I love the size of my Note and thought that a tablet would be like an extra big Note that I could use around the house and the office. I still think its a great idea but I have certainly learned my lesson about who not to buy fron. The tablet S is a joke. Useless sdcard slot, wifi can barely stay connected. Wifi shut off when you close the screen, but only on some days lol.
Flash forward... I preordered the Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 super AMOLED plus. The size is just fine for office and home.
I have now become used to the Notes beautiful color depth and Samsung in general. I simply can't go back to nasty washed out pixel screens. Certainly not ones that perform as horribley as the Sony S.
I have my Note plus, an iPad 1, HP Touchpad, HP windows 7 Tablet. I hope to get the ipad 3 and sell the first ipad, and buy a Android Tablet once I feel the Apps have cought up. For now I like that I have a large phone with android so I can taste all the Mobile Os's.(besides WP7 which I would like to try, but there is no incentive, perhaps I'll get a W8 Tablet once my W7 Tablets needs to be replaced)
Reading all these posts makes me realize what I'm getting myself into. If there are these many people buying a minimum of 500 USD on tablets to surf on the FRIGGING' COUCH, my habit of diving into high-tech just began to sound childish and spoiled.
Do something better with your money, folks. Seriously, four tablets and a phone?
The Note would never replace my iPad 2. The app market on ios and android is quite different. The note is great for browsing on the go, but at home browsing and playing games on the iPad trump all. Sure there are games on android, but they always come first to ios...sucks but it is what it is.
The note is genuinely at the point where its too big of a phone but smaller than a tablet. I call the note a hybrid of a phone and tablet, I do own an iPad2 and my use with it for web browsing when I'm too lazy to grab my laptop but not lazy to grab my ipad2 or to read a my ebooks which are amazing on the big screen BUT ever since I got my note, I wouldn't say I ignored my tablet completely I still use it occasionally for certain apps but I have been on my note for long periods of time web browsing and seemed my practical to use my note as an ebook reader. Plus the note having a really good battery life and flash on the web browser doesn't hurt;-)

I have an Acer Iconer A501. Since I got the SGN, the Acer is hardly ever used. The main use for it now is to give the kids something to watch movies on during long car journeys.
My Asus Transformer has been gathering dust since my Note arrived last month. This phone with an MHL makes even my bluray obsolete.
--- --- --- ---
A damn proud Galaxy Note owner.
Yes a Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1. But since i got the Note, i rarely use it.
I sold Galaxy Tab 10.1 thought about getting prime but got a note instead
I own Transformer, iPad 2 and Transformer Prime and my G Note will be here next week, in anticipation of lack of usage, I have already put Transformer and iPad 2 for sale on the forum

Galaxy Tab S 10.5

I bought my Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 Edition about 6 months ago, and it's been flaky ever since I first started using it. I've sent it in to Samsung to be repaired twice, the last time was because it'll randomly think I've removed my memory card, which it still does, but I'm writing this off as a bad batch. I've owned Samsung phones and tablets ever since they started making them. Well, they say I should expect it in on Monday. I was looking through some of the accessories for it online, and I've ordered a clear screen protector, I got one of these years ago and used it for about 10 minutes before I decided it was crap. The one I just ordered says it's made from military grade components and protects the screen from cracking, getting scratched, etc, but if it does get a scratch, supposedly it's self healing. I don't know about that, but I have problems holding onto it and drop it occasionally or I'll fall asleep using it and when I wake up in the morning, it's usually on the floor.
Does anyone know if this tablet comes with a stylus? Like I mentioned, I've had Galaxy Tabs for years, but this Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 Edition that I'm currently using came with a stylus, and I must say, it's come in handy. I've also seen a few covers with keyboards available for it, but since the S Tab is supposed to be so thin, I'm not sure if I want to "junk it up" or leave it as it. I also like the syncing function where I could pair it with my Galaxy S3 and make phone calls, text, etc. from the tablet, which does this through the phone its paired with. Has anyone checked out any new accessories or new functions of this tablet yet? As I mentioned, I ordered it last night and haven't read anything much about it. I just got online, saw the newest tablet, which is soon going to be released, so I just ordered it.

[Q] Updates expectations

Hi everyone!
I'm looking to buy this tablet (me176cx) or galaxy tab 4... My doubt about this tablet is the hopes of an oficial update. How's Asus with the update policy? Is there a rom comunity?
Thanks
No there is not a rom community....I would go with the nexus or stick with the galaxy tab 4 if you're a samsung fan. Also, to note, everyone has their own individual experiences with companies....Mine with Asus is not good. I am sending back my 176cx for the second time and I've only had it a couple months. The customer service is awful. FWIW
There is no unlocked bootloader at this point. Without that, no roms. As far as updates, I am leaning towards we'll see one. Personally if I had to do it over again, I'd have bought a 2013 nexus or the tab 4. Who knows, maybe I'll see some earth shattering update but at this point my Galaxy S3 actually runs better. I see slow response and horrid memory management on this device. Apps closing themselves, streaming almost impossible. I'm actually shocked Asus ever made a nexus device. Imo they learned nothing from it. Ultimately though, I will probably shy away from Intel based devices in the future. Even the Kindle Fire wouldn't have been a bad choice. You have to sideload Google but that doesn't seem like too big of a deal.
^^ Completely agree.
I'm not happy with my me572 (which is supposed to be more performant) either. It runs out of memory after a day even after killing absolutely everything and clearing all cache. I basically have to restart this device at least once a day to properly use it. It's great for media consumption (good screen and micro SD slot) and the occasional Web surfing, but performance is awful. The nexus 7 2013 is a much, much better option. At this point I'm considering returning it (got two more weeks left), add cash and get the Galaxy tab s, or the IPad mini retina.
But this is definitely my last Asus product ever, if they would have unlocked the bootloader and let us run cyanogenmod this tab would be at least enjoyable.
