{NOOB} trying to get rid of google starting from scratch - Sony Xperia XZ1 Compact Questions & Answers

Hi all..
I've been reading the forum here for a few days , trying to follow the instructions to install modpunk's LINEAGE 17.1 for my Sony Xperia compact XZ 1. I' ve recently switched for IOS, I'm a quite total noob in programming and Android, but not totally bad at understanding and following instructions Thank for your help.
For what I've read here i need to fulfill some operations : (I'm on mac OC 10.11 and latest build 47.2.A.11.228
- Put the latest xperia stock firmware on my phone (DONE)
- Unlock Developers mode , USB debug and OEM unlock ) ( DONE)
- Unlock the Bootloader , via the Sony.developers instructions ( HARDLY DONE but not sure)
- Save / Backup DRM keys ( UNDONE)
-Install ADB and Fastboot tools ( DONE but unable to get ADB DEVICES command functioning, event with the phone connected in fastboot mode (blue led / black screen)
-use Terminal and ADB / Fastboot to flash TRWP ( Problems getting Terminal to work; I get "-bash: adb: command not found" or Fastboot ("-bash: fastboot: command not found") (UNDONE , big problems using ADB and Fastboot, trying to learn TERMINAL commands)
- use TWRP recovery for make a full backup of my device "in case of" (UNDONE)
- Flash the Lineage OS and workaround the possible DRM, camera and gps issues
Am I on a good To-Do list ? Can i have more detailed informations here for a step by step starting ( how to get ADB / Fastboot tools working / back up DRM) Thanks a lot for your help, I know it's a shame but I've really tryed to follow the instructions here an there, and stay blocked at the FASTBOOT "adb devices " " fastboot" command not working
Thx and have a nice day
EDIT : https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=78255334&postcount=382 I'l begin with this full pdf guide but is this ok to start with the .228 last firmware or do i have to downgrade ? Tx

You need to start here first if you wish to backup your DRM keys - https://forum.xda-developers.com/xp...devonly-exploits-temp-root-to-backup-t3795510
This should help you with ADB and Fastboot on a Mac - https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1917237
Everything else then should fall into place.

Thx a lot i 'm gonna investigate this !

No problem. :good:

EDIT : Downgrade succesful with other firmware (47.1.A.8.49_CE1 ) proposed by @j4nn
Continuing the process.
Hello all :8) I'm still trying to save Drm keys of the XZ1c .. i got a windows 7 working, all drivers and flashing drivers installed... Adb commands responding . I try to downgrade to get the renotools working and save the DRM keys
- Debug mode and OEM unlock allowed on the phone with the ultimate .228 firmware.
But Newsflasher 20 stop installing the 47.1.A.2324_CE1 firmware (from the link in the @j4nn 's detailed instructions in the thread
https://forum.xda-developers.com/xp...devonly-exploits-temp-root-to-backup-t3795510 )
- I've put the newsflasher app and tools in the root dir of the Firmware as said in the newsflasher instructions.
- I've unzipped the" partition.zip" , getting a "partition" folder in the same dir
Then start newsflasher (after installing Gordon Gate flashing drivers) with phone on "flash" mode (green light after volume down button + usb cable plug
Skipping all optional options as i read in the "newsflasher thread". i copy the log down there/
Ii can' succeed to flash the firmware ... With luck, the phone continue booting on .228 firmware after this...
-OTHER ASPECT then the @j4nn thread says i should remove the "persist" files from folder to keep attestation keys
But i don't have exactly that file in the firmware folder, but a persist X-FLASH-ALL-C93B.sin file . does it mean i should let it in the folder, or is this an equivalent ?
Thanks for your help and sorry for being such a noob at every step
I put the newsflasher log down here

If you're using newflasher, then you need to remove the persist.sin file, as you don't have one, along with the above underlined, I'm guessing you've downloaded XZ1 FW and not XZ1C, as I've never seen LUN0_ whenever I've flashed FW.

After saving DRm, unlock bootloader, restore TA partition, I have two problems :
- Battery charge indicator says 20 % , even if I fully charged the battery...
- Battery health test says I have to change battery ( beforee downgrading it said good state)
And I have two unprovsioned keys , but the Android key that says "provisioned" ( screenshot1 ) ,
the three keys l provisioned before bootloader unlock and drm restore ( screenshot 2) .
now i'll try to fix this. thanx for all the support i got or any hint.

No, hide bootloader kernels are for stock, Lineage has it's own kernel.

For the battery issue it's look like it happend this night, I let it charge after downgrade successful, and this morning, it was with camera on , black screen cause lens on a table, and battery indicator to 20 % ... hope the lineage flash will make it better.
Cheers and thanks again and again SxUsr !! now let's move to the TWRP / LOS struggle

Battery problem fixed by several reboots . fine !

Succeed to install LINEAGE 17 !! Wonderful OS ... 3 days of hard learning to manage it Would like to say big big thanks to @SXUsr for his help @j4nn @modpunk for their precious release and detailed instructions , !! Glad to join this community ... now I can stop spamming this pro forum with my beginnings. Bye (until next question, maybe

This is exactly what I want to do, too. However I am more keen on Lineage 16 which should be more stable than 17. What do you think?
I would like to have a fully functional secondary phone without google services.
And bu the way why do I need to backup the DRM keys if I heard that with Android 9 or above the camera still works on custom roms? Sorry if it is not true, I not always visit the forums.

I am rocking Lineage OS 17.1 and it is quite stable, but 16 still had up to date security patches so it's really up to your preference in Android flavors. Although I believe GPS is better in 16.
About the DRM, that is correct. It is not needed for Lineage OS as it is fixed by the ROM. It is just in case you ever want to switch back to the stock rom and want a working camera. The process is not hard and only takes a couple minutes.
I personally followed the PDF guide in this post:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=78255334&postcount=382
It had screenshots and all the steps written down so it's quite easy to follow.
Hope this helps!

While LOS 17 has come a far way and is quite stable, I still prefer LOS 16, which seems to perform better for me. I also prefer Pie over Android 10.

So, you wanna root?
Rooting is not easy like some people make it out to be. All these 1 click Noob-Proof tools can actually go wrong. And they do.
But lets get this clear, IT'S ALMOST impossible to brick. I'd put the odds on about a 99.9% chance you will not brick beyond repair. However, things probably will go wrong, which is why you will need to follow the instructions very carefully.
Pre-Root Info
I want to make sure the rooting process goes well for as many as you as possible, so get ready to read lots of information that will turn you from a Noob into a lean, mean rooting machine.
And for those of you who like to slack off and think "I cba to read all that crap", I've made it so you have to answer a question to get the download links. Aren't I nice. Seriously though, it really will be a lot easier for you if you read all of this, you will thank me for it one day.
Pro users who know what HBOOT is, how to flash a ROM and can use ADB can safely skip this step
Android Glossary
This page is probably the most valuble bit of information you will ever need during your rooted life. Behold, the VillainROM Android Glossary. (Cheers Pulser )
http://bit.ly/9HtICk
Read it. Read it ALL. No questions asking for these terms will be tolerated in this thread and you will be teased so much you will want to die. So please, read it carefully.
Downloads
Now, for the bit you've been dreading. 2 downloads. 2 questions. One answer will link you to the download. The other two will link you to a humorous fail picture. (And for all you sneaky cheaters out there, I've bit.ly'd the links. Take that.)
Question 1 - UnrEVOked download
What do you use to flash a ROM?
A) UnrEVOked
B) ADB
C) Recovery
Question 2 - Other Stuff Download (We may ask you to use this on the help channel)
What is a RUU?
A) A tool to root your phone
B) A tool to return your phone to 'stock' (unroot)
C) A tool to flash a ROM
You can also get countless lulz from adding a + to the end of those links and comparing the wrong answers to the correct ones. Yes people really don't read the information.
OK, I've talked enough now, let's get down to business...
So, hopefully you now know all the terms, which makes my life a lot easier as I don't have to explain everything. Let's begin.
Root Guide - Pt. 2 - UnrEVOked
1) Ensure you have downloaded and extracted the first download in the above post to somewhere you can remember and access easily. For the purpose of this guide, I will refer to that folder as the 'Root Pack'.
Next, we are going to prepare the UnrEVOked program to run. If you are a Windows user, this means installing the drivers, if you use Linux or Mac you just have to run the app as mentioned later. We have to install HTC Sync to get adb drivers and we have to uninstall it again as it interferes with UnrEVOked. The drivers however remain which is why you need to install it.
2) (Windows Only) If you have not already, download HTC Sync and install it. Then uninstall HTC Sync as well as any other software that may interfere such as doubletwist. Next, follow this guide to set up the hacked HBOOT drivers. Make sure you reboot your PC after doing this.
Next, we need to prepare your phone. We will make sure USB Debugging is on as UnrEVOked needs this to send adb commands to the phone. We also need to enable Unknown Sources so that UnrEVOked can push busybox and SuperUser Permissions apps to the phone.
3) With your phone go to Settings > Connect to PC > Default connection type > Charge Only and untick Ask Me. Then go to Settings > Applications > Development > Make sure USB Debugging is ticked. Then go back to Applications and make sure Unknown Sources is ticked.
Next, we're going to run UnrEVOked. What it does is reboot into HBOOT mode, and use an exploit to gain a temporary NAND unlock. Then it uses fastboot to flash a recovery image, and then pushes the su files required for root.
4) WINDOWS USERS: Right click on the 'unrevoked.exe' file (Or something similar) in the Root Pack and click 'Run as Admin' (Not required for XP)
LINUX USERS: Right click the 'ClickHereToRoot.sh' file and UnrEVOked will start. (Make sure you chmod 755'd it first)
MAC USERS:

GETTING A MISC RELATED ERROR? See post eight.
Your phone should now reboot and then congratulations! Your phone is rooted. However, the root that UnrEVOked gives you is basic. No ROMs or good stuff. So you must read on to the next post to flash a custom ROM...
Now you've rooted, let's flash a ROM. We will backup all your apps then flash a ROM then restore your apps. Ready?
Pt. 3 - Flashing Your First ROM
**NOTE: You can repeat Pt. 3 every time you want to flash a new ROM or update
Next we're going to download and use Titanium Backup to backup all your apps as we will have to wipe your phone to install the ROM. You can use the same method if you ever want to backup/restore in the future too.
1) Download & Install Titanium Backup from the market. Open it and hit the 'Problems' button to download busybox, a suite of commands for rooted phones.
Then hit menu then batch, and tap the button next to Backup All User Apps + System Data. Let it complete before moving on to the next step.
Next we're going to reboot into recovery mode to flash the ROM. You can use this if you ever need to get into recovery in the future.
2) Turn your phone off and turn it on again holding POWER + VOL DOWN to enter HBOOT mode. Wait a few seconds while it checks for images before using the VOLUME KEYS to scroll and POWER to select Recovery. Your phone will now vibrate and reboot into recovery mode!
Next we're going to do a full backup of your phone using Nandroid. This will backup the entire state of your phone in case you ever
want to go back. You should really do this every time you flash a new ROM.
3) Use the TRACKBALL to scroll down to where it says Backup or Nandroid or Backup / Restore. Then select Backup and wait for it to finish.
Now we need to wipe your phone. Whenever you flash a different ROM you should Always do this, when you are updating the ROM you should check on the release thread for information.
4) If you are not on the Main Menu in recovery, hit back a couple of times to get there. Then, use the TRACKBALL to navigate down to 'Wipe Data / Factory Reset' and accept the scary warning to wipe your phone.
Now we can flash the ROM! Ensure you have downloaded a ROM and it is on the root (Not in any folders) of your SD card. The flashing process may take a few minutes.
5) From the Main Menu, scroll down to and select Install zip from SD Card and then select Choose zip from SD Card then select where you put your ROM and wait for it to complete. Then, select Reboot System Now to reboot into your shiny new ROM!
Your phone will now reboot, it may take a while to reboot as it's rebuilding the Dalvik Cache. If it still doesn't boot up after 10mins, pull the battery and consult the ROM thread for troubleshooting.
Now we're going to restore that Titanium Backup you made before starting Pt. 3. It will restore all your apps back but not system data. (ie Settings) You can use Titanium Backup any time you want to backup/restore your phone.
6) Download & Install Titanium Backup again and tap Menu Button > Batch > Restore Missing apps + data. It should prompt you to reinstall every app again.
--------
Congratulations, you have qualified with a rooted phone from the Turkeh Root School!
(Unless you're reading this without having actually done any of this guide)
So, go off and ask questions, answer questions, and contribute to the community! We'd also really appreciate it if you could hang out in the help channel to help other people trying to root too.
Thanks for rooting! You can also follow some of the other guides to install all apps on the SD card, Unroot & S-OFF
Pt. 4 - Flashing a New Radio
Flashing a Radio
The radio is the lowest part of your phone. (ie It's the very first thing that loads when you turn your phone on.
Most ROMs will have a required radio version, but most will agree that it's best to be on the latest as they often improve battery life etc.
You can downgrade your radio and you can find your radio version by going to Settings > About Phone > Software Information > Baseband Version.
Your ROM should tell you on it's thread what the recommended radio version is, so download it, transfer it to the root of your SD card as you did in Pt. 3 then follow this.
Now we're going to reboot into recovery mode as we did in Pt. 3 to flash the new radio. There is also an app on the market called 'Quick Boot' which you can use to quickly get into recovery. The next step will assume you have this.
1) Open Quick Bootand tap Recovery then tap Allow on the SuperUser permissions prompt.
Note: The SuperUser Permissions app will prompt you whenever an app is requesting to use root. You should look over which app is requesting this before you allow it.
Next, we need to flash the radio. You do this exactly the same way as you flash a ROM, which you did in Pt. 3.
2) Use the same method you flashed the new ROM in Pt. 3 to flash the radio. You do not need to Nandroid backup or wipe to do this, just flash the zip.
Note: Your phone may reboot a couple of times and will show a picture of the Android Robot while it is flashing the radio. It has NOT crashed, it is flashing it. DO NOT pull the battery, it will reboot when it is done.
Your new radio has now flashed!
A2SD
Note: It has come to my attention that doing this with ROM Manager doesn't work most of the time. If you have problems please partition your card another way. (I recommend GParted - There is a Live CD if you don't have Linux)
First, we need to partition your SD card with ROM Manager. This will wipe all the data on your SD card so please backup before continuing.
1) Open ROM Manager (Download it from the Market if you don't have it - Although you will need the Market Mod to show all apps) and press Menu > Manually Override Recovery **Not sure exactly what it says, pls could someone help me out here** Then scroll down to Partition SD Card. Choose the ext size you want for your apps to be installed on, then tap 0 for swap size, then tap OK to reboot into recovery and start partitioning!
Note: While it's partitioning it will show a picture of an Android. You can press (Power?) to see what it's actually doing and if there's any errors.
Now, you need to check the ROM thread for info. Most ROMs activate it automatically when it detects an ext partition on your phone. On some others you need to flash a special update.zip. If you are unsure hit the help button on post 1 and we'll help you out.
Congratulations, you now have Apps2SD! Exactly what you will have (dalvik2sd etc) will vary between ROMs.

These RUU programs that you use to unroot are Windows only, but fortunatley I wrote a tool for Linux called OpenRUU so you can flash them on there. If you are a Mac user, take a moment to ask yourself 'Why am I using a Steve Jobs product?' as there is no way for you to run the RUUs.
First, we are going to identify what RUU you need to download and flash then download it. (Bravo is the codename for Desire, all RUUs use this name)
1) Go to shipped-roms.com, click on the Android Robot then click on Buzz. Now, you need to recall what version of Android you were on before you rooted. If you had a carrier supplied device you should also get the one that is applicable, but if you are unsure or your carrier is not listed go for one that says WWE. (World Wide English - All Languages) Or come on our IRC channel for advice.
Note: HTC Sync must be installed before continuing. The next step will also wipe all your apps + settings!
Next we're going to run the RUU, this should take around 5-10mins. DO NOT touch your phone during the flashing process!
2) Double click on the RUU file you downloaded in step 1, read the readme, and click to start the flashing process.
After it's done! Your phone now should be completley back to stock status!
If you get an error during the flashing process, try again and then come on our IRC help channel for assistance if it persists.
Fixing the Annoying unrEVOked Backup CID Missing errors
NEW, EASY METHOD
I managed to find unrEVOked 3.2. If you want to use that as a fast-track then that's fine, but please read the following carefully:
Code:
[B]DISCLAIMER:[/B]
Please be aware that this build was pulled from unrevoked.com because it was not safe.
USE AT YOUR OWN RISK!
If it ****s up and you point the finger at me, I will laugh at you.
This is only for 'Backup CID Missing' errors. if you use this on any other type of misc error it might brick.
Download. Run in replace of unrEVOked 3.21 in the standard guide.
You can still use the old, misc editing guide below:
(Guide edited from http://home.kennynet.co.uk/~kenny/bcid-fix.txt to be more noob-friendly)
This fixes:
Backup CID Missing
Unfortunately, because a couple of people corrupted their misc partitions during the testing of unrEVOked 3.2, they brought in a load of stupid, annoying safety features that included checking the misc partition on your phone.
/rant
What is misc?
Misc is a partition on your phone. It holds various switches and stuff, such as your:
Official HTC ROM Version
Your CID (Which tells the phone what carrier/region your phone is)
However, sometimes, the CID is not in misc or your misc is corrupted. This process will add in the CID to misc and reflash misc. (which may fix other misc related errors but probably wont)
Warning! Misc is quite an important part of your phone. If it gets severely corrupted you may loose USB access. Me or anyone on our IRC help channel take no responsibility if you **** up somehow.
This guide is designed for Windoze, Linux users use common sense adapting the instructions and can use a Linux hex editor like ghex. (Works just the same)
Please ensure you have downloaded the other stuff file on the second post before continuing and have extracted it to C:\root.
First, we need to use adb to grab misc off your phone. We will get temporary root then grab misc.
1) Open a command prompt on your computer by going to Start > Run and typing cmd then pressing enter. Now type the following pressing enter on each line. (Make sure your phone is connected and you have the drivers installed.)
Code:
cd \
cd root\adb
adb-windows devices <---- Make sure it finds your phone before continuing
adb-windows shell <----- You should see a $
$ /system/__unrevoked_su <---- Getting temp root
# cat /dev/mtd/mtd0 > /sdcard/misc.img <---- Copying misc to your SD Card
# getprop ro.cid <----- This is your CID. Remember what this says, it should say something like HTC_000 or 1111111 if you have a goldcard
# exit
adb-windows pull /sdcard/misc.img misc.img <---- Getting the misc we copied before
You should now have a file called misc.img in the C:\root\adb folder.
Now come on to the IRC help channel here. We will stick the CID into the misc.img so you can carry on as it really is complicated. You can also post here if nobody is avalible and I will sort it ASAP.
(If you've done hex editing before, all you do is put the CID you got above in at position 0 then add a 00 at the end so the hex string looks something like "48 54 43 5F 5F 30 30 31 00")
Make sure you save the file that we give you back to C:\root\adb overwriting the original misc.img file.
Next we're going to push misc back on to the phone using a similar method to step 1. Have open a command prompt and cd to the correct directory as in step 1 before proceeding.
2) Type the following in the command prompt:
Code:
adb push misc.img /sdcard/new-misc.img <---- Pushing misc back to your SD card
adb-windows shell
$ /system/__unrevoked_su <---- getting temp root again
# /data/local/flash_image misc /sdcard/new-misc.img <---- Using flash_image to flash the new misc
# exit
Now rerun unrEVOked and everything should be as shiny as the plastic Samsung use to make their phones.

Many Thanks,
Helps loads confirm my thinking after a couple of days reading, I just have to grow some balls n take the plunge
My main concern is my WF is a UK Voda PAYG which I believe is locked n I'm unsure whether I should get n unlock code before doing anything.
I did read in a Desire thread that updating a stock rom without a sim could unlock, but haven't seen any other refs to unlocking WF other than code.
Note: Unroot section still refers to Desire Bravo not WF Buzz
Thanks agin

Piece of art already. Should be stickied for sure.
I thought a bit about 'reporting' the thread to make a mod notice it but it said specifically what report was to be used for , so i didn't do it , i guess we'll have to bump it up so it gets stickied. Great post !!

Download fastboot files from njec21 post(4 post, thanks man for uploading file)
Really Ankurcul was this really necessary? There are many existing guides already for this, all you have done is add laptop in. Hope this does indeed help someone but like I said many existing guides already.
Regards Slymobi.
MANCHESTER together UNITED forever
Mother of all caps lock.
Also, ADB=/= fastboot.
If you instruct them to just download the ADB files, they wont get faatboot along with it.
@slymobi if u search general q&a section half of the noobs generally question about gps issue nad then over and over again we have to tell them what procedure to adopt.
it's just simple to open a single thread so that in future as per you so many threads of just one question can be reduced....
@njec21-bro just calm down....i don't wanna rude with u.....so mind ur words otherwise pm me any comments u want to give....don't make this thread bad for noobs that they won't try this and keep questioning about simple things
I'm didn't mean to be rude, I just think you abused caps lock a bit.
My second point still stand though.
How you're saying it right now is that they just need to download ADB, which doesn't include fastboot.exe, which is needed for your guide.
Link to fastboot:
http://android-roms.googlecode.com/files/fastboot-win32.zip
k...that's was a mistake that i didn't included fastboot and thanks for that njec....
+1 respect man...
You might want to add to the guide that this procedure works only on devices that are S-OFF'ed with Revolutionary or have their bootloaders unlocked with HTCDev. Also, its perfectly usable on Linux as well.
Will try this
I will try and i will press the thanks button, if it works....
---------- Post added at 12:53 PM ---------- Previous post was at 12:16 PM ----------
It will be nice if u add the flashing of KERNAL...
You might want to reduce your caps usage, it seems as though you're shouting, and this should go in the general section.
Sent from my Wildfire using Tapatalk 2 Beta-5
thanks 3xeno....
@usaff22-it's not shouting bt just want things clear that person reading it will read carefully.anything wont work will disguise this guide in which there is no point.what problem i faced and what i see in general sections about same gps issues i wrote.
i don't see any point in posting it in q&a section.
@balaedge- i'll look forward to it....same lame excuse college work....

Teclast X80 Pro (E3E6) Dual OS (Win10/Android 5.0): Remove Windows

Hey guys. Sorry to bother you in the X98 section, but since there's no section for the X80 yet and maybe the devices have some similarities, I hope it's ok.
The tablet worked fine, but to remove any possible bloatware under Windows or Android, I reset Windows. Somehow the device must have crashed (low battery?) and now I can't boot to Windows anymore (black screen and / or boot loop). Of course I made no backup / recovery disk. Android still works fine and I still get into BIOS / UEFI.
I tried reinstalling Windows via OTG with USB stick. I got to the point where I can choose a partition. Problem is, there are lots of partitions (Android, recovery, System and so on). I located the Windows partition, formatted / deleted it and tried to reinstall Windows on this partition. Just the exact way I would do it on a PC. Somehow it won't install on this partition. The error message says something about "the partitions are not in the recommended order. Further information for installation on GPT-volumes..." (I don't know the exact English phrasing because everything is in German). I chose "continue anyway". Then I get the message that "the EFI-system is not formatted in NTFS. Format the partition to FAT32 and start install procedure again". I press ok and get back to Windows Setup (Install now).
I also tried different repair and recovery options. One time I got error code 0xC0000034. Funny thing is, Windows still seems to be there because while trying to repair / recover I tried to load some drivers and could see the hard drives and folders under Windows.
I tried downloading the original roms here: http://pan.baidu.com/s/1qYEa8gc
You need a Baidu account for the larger files and after days and days I gave up to create such an account as it seems to work only with a mainland China number. There's an option for oversea mobiles but that's not working. I tried a QQ-account, but Baidu wants to link with it and you need that telephone number again. So apparently there's no way to get the original files that way.
I found some stuff here: http://www.needrom.com/download/teclast-x80-pro-dualboot/ but that's only a tutorial file in Chinese and some flash programms / drivers (also got them from Baidu - smaller files are possible to download without an account).
Long story short: I guess recovering Windows 10 is too much effort, so I want to make the tablet Android only and of course want to use the whole capacity for Android. I found a thread on reddit about removing Windows on the X98: https://www.reddit.com/r/teclast/comments/479eua/teclast_x89_how_to_remove_windows_10/
But I have no idea which partitions are definitely needed for Android and which ones I can safely delete. I found a partition map here: http://wheresmykeyboard.com/2015/08/teclast-x98-air-64gb-dual-boot-default-partition-map/ but that doesn't help me that much because they look different.
Attached you will find a photo of all the partitions on my device. I guess there are some which were created during the failed Windows installation because I had about 20 GB free space and now only 17.7 GB.
So is there anybody out there who knows if it's possible to remove Windows completely and which partitions I have to delete?
Did you ever figure this out? I just bought an X80 Pro and was thinking of doing something similar since I plan on making it an android-only tablet.

Yes please tell us how metalaxi , it'll be much appreciated.:good:
Ok, guys. Since some of you are asking how I did it, I'm going to try to explain it. It's kinda embarrassing that I don't remember the exact way but I hope it helps somehow. I used the tutorial from this site: http://techtablets.com/forum/topic/x80-plus-android-os-only/#login
Even though it's supposed to be for the Plus model, it also worked on the Pro. Btw, the guy Alex in that thread is me .
You can download all the files from my Google Drive here: https://drive.google.com/open?id=0BxEFqy4Rt9w_cnh3VG9ySk5sOHM
You need
- Android5.1 Upgrade Tool.rar
- X80 Pro (E3E6)- Dual OS - Android5.1-V1.04 Firmware.rar
- gpt.rar (Credit goes to Allember @techtablets-forum; hope it's ok to spread the file)
First you have to install the flash tool. Unrar the firmware and replace the gpt.bin. Then flash the firmware by checking BLANK.
Problem is that when I did all that, my Windows was already crushed and wasn't working anymore. I can't remember anymore if I erased the Windows partitions or any others beforehand. If you're not interested in Windows anymore, just flash it without changing or erasing any of the partitions. I guess by replacing the gpt-file, you do all that automatically.
I hope this somehow helps you. Feel free to ask for more help.
Have a good night!

Hi @metalaxi. Do you think its possible to like "reverse" and use the same files to remove Android instead and maintain the Windows 10? Appreciate to hear from you. Thanks!
Do we have to change the gpt before doing what you said in your PDF? Or I have just to follow your PDF?

Sorry, I can't answer that sufficent enough. As far as I know, you can just delete all partitions except the ones from Windows. Then format the unallocated space and merge it with the one from Windows. No guarantee!

It is not so hard. By mine it was only trial and error. Installiert all drivers an go in the bootloader with three Finger method. Go two levels up and go into bootloader. Then connect to PC and look in Intel flashing tool if connection is reconiced correctly. Select the downloaded file and select flash. Thats it. Device will reboot and you are ready to go.

Straightforward if you can obtain a USB stick capable of storing over 7GB (some 8GB sticks may not); USB hub (ideally a powered hub); USB keyboard; OTG cable.
1) Obtain the Windows files of the correct firmware. The procedure outlined here is for E6E9 firmware, but other firmware will be similar. Download the circa 6.5GB E6E9 firmware Windows files from https://yadi.sk/d/XEvRsoiD3Q4vKX or https://mega.nz/#F!I0AXGR5C!YiNFkZL9DIvzepH28qAjEQ (or from appropriate source for your firmware version).
Decompress the downloads as required to obtain six folders and two files.
2) Format the stick to FAT32.
3) Name the stick WINPE (five uppercase characters).
4) Copy the previously mentioned folders and files to the USB stick.
5) Plug USB stick and USB keyboard into hub; plug hub into OTG cable; plug OTG cable into tablet whilst the tablet is off.
6) Turn on tablet and immediately start tapping << Delete >> key on USB keyboard. This should open the UEFI config section prior to Android boot option. If the tablet displays the Android boot option, turn off the tablet, wait a few seconds, then turn on and start tapping << Delete >> key on USB keyboard again.
7) When in UEFI, touch the title menu option of << Save and Exit >> and look in the << Boot Override >> section for the name of your USB stick, then touch the name of your USB stick. The screen will immediately go blank as the tablet starts to boot from the USB stick.
8) After a few minutes, a numerically display of progress will be displayed in a CMD window.
9) After reaching 100% and nearing completion of the overall installation, the tablet will prompt for acceptance, so accept that prompt.
10) The setup will run a few final operations for a few seconds, then automatically reboot.
11) Done.
You will be prompted to complete the OOBE on each Windows boot until you complete OOBE.

SO... This happened... Secure Boot Error Code 1003 MODIFIED!!!

So, I wanted to go back to stock, after trying multiple steps listed here in XDA-dev, and multiple youtube videos and webpages. I will list the erros bellow :
LgUP - "unknown device"... I been having issues with this software since I first attempt to run it. I tried on 2 different computers and have the same issue. Installed the DLL first (like many suggested ) then LGUP and nothing
Flashtools14 - I get the .kdz and attempt to do either "normal" or "CSE" . after comes another window, stating the progress, do not disconnect the phone .. blah blah. After going thru that it stops at 9 % and nothing happens.
After couple of weeks, I thought that if Relocking the bootloader i would be able to go into the "factory Reset" with out booting from TWRP and going back to stock..*stupid move*, and so I did... And here we are with error 1003 MODIFIED
I been looking for answers in order to fix this issue, but they go to the same path... using LGUP or FLASHtools in which both dont work with me
I have this phone

I been looking for answers in order to fix this issue, but they go to the same path... using LGUP or FLASHtools in which both dont work with me
I have this phone

sorry i have no idea. maybe pos in thread go back to stock.
So if I understood you correctly you still have download mode?
Then it can be fixed.
If you want I can guide you through..
For this you need any Linux or best would be if just using FWUL ( http://tinyurl.com/FWULatXDA ).
I recommend to use the persistent mode version so your settings and installations survive a reboot / shutdown.
instructions:
Boot FWUL, choose language & login
Download the KDZ file you want to flash (we need to know the path later e.g. /home/android/Downloads/)
Open the folder LG
Connect device in download mode to the PC
Double click "LG laf NG" icon
Type in the new opened terminal:
sudo python2 auth.py
[*]sudo python2 partitions.py --list
If this lists your partitions then we can proceed with flashing.
Download my brand new kdz manager tool into FWUL: (right click and save as)
When you are not using the persistent mode of FWUL: plug in a big USB stick (e.g. 32 GB or more) into FWUL and extract the attached file there
When you are using the persistent mode of FWUL: just extract it in your download folder
You need to know the full path so best is copying the path from the file manager (e.g. /home/android/Downloads/ ) or leave the file manager open there
Open another terminal (black little icon in the panel)
cd and directly behind this paste the path you copied (e.g. cd /home/android/Downloads/ )
press ENTER
bash kdzmanager.sh -x FILLINFULLPATH-TO-DOWNLOADED-KDZ
(e.g. bash kdzmanager.sh -x /home/android/Downloads/h811blablubb.kdz)
once finished type:
bash kdzmanager.sh --test --flash extracteddz/
(just like this as "extracteddz" is the path generated by the kdzmanager)
This will just test flashing and not actually flash. Let me know the results of this (copy & paste output)
if you can't wait the next step would be actually flashing ofc:
WARNING: by default the kdzmanager will not overwrite userdata (which would be like a factory reset) and I would recommend to leave it out always and better choose the LG factory reset menu (after flashing completed) if required. If you still want to flash it use --with-userdata as a parameter (can take a loooong time then btw).
bash kdzmanager.sh --flash extracteddz/

Sure man i will do this and try to instal linux or go into your guide. One questions, which version of linux i need !?. I did a quick read on your post, is quite alot information to take, but i will try it!!!
Edit. I was able to download virtual box with extensions. Plug in my lg g4 and make sure that it read it. Double click on LG laf (auth) - * there is no LG laf NG* - termina opens, open new terminal type first command, ask for password - password is different than the ones mentioned in the OP - error : Python2: cant open file 'auth.py' : [Errno 2]\ No such file or directory

It seems you havent downloaded the latest FWUL version v2.0? In v1 there is no LG laf NG.. But we can use that FWUL version as well. it's just very very outdated
If you want to have the best FWUL experience use v2.0 and download the persistent mode version of FWUL (it's the ZIP) and read the FAQ to make the persistent mode available in VirtualBox!
This combo is fantastic
I come back in about 3 hours to complete the guide...

Saw something a few posts back about virtualbox or vmware...
FWIW, Historically, virtualized Linux Guests don't do so well with USB. I've always had to install it natively or use a LiveUSB distro with persistence.

Your tool is far better than this one because your tool has extracted many such partitions of LG G4 H811 20o KDZ which that tool didn't. E.g. PERSISTENT, DEVINFO, MODEMST1, MODEMST2, DRM etc.

Well. Yet another PhD thesis :good:. There is one thing that I couldn't understand though. At one place you mentioned that Hint: not wiping userdata can occur in a bootloop while at the other place you said WARNING: by default the kdzmanager will not overwrite userdata. Does it mean that flashing can cause bootloop if kdzmanager is used with default options?
Secondly, does it also support TOTs as LGUP does?

It's been a while since my installation, and frankly I don't remember much about it. Describe your problem in more detail. Rather, you've definitely made a mistake.

So my problem is i do all the steps in the guide were I get stuck is at the part were u have to do the bcdedit for the test mode to trun its one of the last steps be for u can boot up windows like i made the esp partition correctly like I use parted on the computer format both like resized the partition the user data partition made the windows partition and then the ESP partition and then after that part I do the Windows installation where you you know do the install that when thing then the drivers and then before the drivers you have to do that BCD edit for the for the boot files and then like every time I try to open the EFI partition like double click on it with a mouse it says something about security that I don't have permissions and then I try to left click go to properties and then there's no security Tab the uefi partition just wont let me acces it at all I just dint now what step im doing wrong thanks for the reply
Did touch screen work on mi mix 2s cuz i got windows to load but touch dose not work I installed all the divers i dont if its cuz i didnt flash that devcfg file i just did now im redeploying window's and its drivers

Unfortunately there is no OTG support for our phone, for the time being you can forget about it. It's also impossible to transfer video with a USB-C cable. Currently, this Windows is such more of a curiosity than a useful system
Do u have usb working I think i was useing tue wrong boot loader or something cuz the newer bootloader works really well with usb there is a way to get usb c to displayed to a monitor i seen. It on telegram and I did fet usb to work its pretty usable for now just not sound yet this project is really dope tho u have to say
I also was wondering if there was a way to flash the boatloader to the phone so i dont have to keep pluging it in the computer
Question,
When trying to reboot to Windows it will eventually blue screen with the message : Stop Code: Driver PNP WATCHDOG. I read thats because I have not flashed the file : http://files.renegade-project.org/devcfg-polaris_FixTS.img
When I try I get the below:
Warning: skip copying devcfg_ab image avb footer (devcfg_ab partition size: 0, devcfg_ab image size: 38444).
Sending 'devcfg_ab' (37 KB) OKAY [ 0.008s]
Writing 'devcfg_ab' OKAY [ 0.004s]
Finished. Total time: 0.031s
Assume the Warning is the problem, I tried resetting everything to stock with the mi flash tool. This was great for my Chinese language skills but the warning still shows when I try to flash.
other laptop, different cable, same thing.
Any advice ?
