Extremely confused about band compatibility and updates - ZTE Nubia Z20 Questions & Answers

I've browsed through the forum, as well as in the web and could not find the answers to my question.
I've been seeing throughout (Nubia's website, gsmarena, ebay listings) that different "versions" of the device are compatible with different bands.
With that said, I haven't seen different versions of the device around and it's not clear to me if there even are two versions.
Is it the case that whether you flash the NA v103 vs the EU v203 ROM, there'll be different band compatibility?
Has anyone used the device in the US? Is the reception good? (I'm on Metropcs)
If I buy it from this link (https://www.ebay.com/itm/Nubia-Z20-...hash=item2cf91a8a75:m:msBr-AqyOKf-4kOGzQXk8Og), would I get the NA version?
Also, how is the device with security updates?

I use the z20 on AT&T. Cell signal is good, wifi signal is very strong.
As far as security updates, not a single one. So if that's important to u, I'd skip it.

I have the US version on Tmobile, and it works fine (purchased from Nubia directly). I can't respond about some offering on ebay.

I highly doubt it but does it support Wi-Fi calling and HD Voice?

I don't know why you doubt it but it does support wifi calling, I am not sure if it will support HD.

HTC Diamond World or US? Need Help ASAP!

Right now I have a choice between original HTC Diamond or the US version but I am not sure which one to pick. Can anyone please shed some light on this? Thank you in advance!
it would help if you were to mention where you live (US vs. Europe) and travel to, and other things factoring into your decision. if you're in the US (e.g., live here) go with the US version because it has the correct 3G radio; high-speed internet access on your phone AND 850 band which provides better signal..
Sorry, I live in US and on T-Mobile network.
Main difference between the EU and US models lies in the 3G/HSDPA data connections. While serious doubts/uncertainties on the use of EU model for 3G on T-Mobile (only 26 cities in the US so far) have been raised (details can be found in this thread), the US model will allow you to use the 3G/HSDPA data connection should you decide to switch to AT&T in the future. Second, the EU model has a front camera for video conferencing, but I was told neither T-Mobile nor AT&T would make this option available to their phone customers at this time. There are software available through Wifi for video conferencing as I learned from this thread, and you would need the EU model to do it if it works (I haven't tried). Google Maps, third, is not installed in the EU model, but there is a CAB file to be downloaded from this thread or the google website. Price wise, at last, the US model is a little cheaper than the EU model by $10-$20 USD (may due to the lack of the front camera?). There have been reports in this thread about yellow/green/wash-out background in the US model. This may be something you want to check closely if you want to consider the US model.
I read some other thread here which points out that the Euro version has the yellow spots and yellow tint problem, not the US version.

good clarification on the 3G network; T-Mobile uses, I believe, the 1700 3G band in the US and att uses the 850/1900 3G band. also, if you weren't aware, the US version of the Diamond is available at Best Buy Mobile, typically located in Best Buy stoes.

Then probably yellow tints/stripes are found for both models:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=426319&page=10, which is for the US 3G Diamond.. sigh
@cortez.i: Thank you for confirming the complicated 3G issues
The US version is also more easily returned and exchanged by just going into a Best Buy and it will be better covered under the warranty from HTC. HTC is not pleased that companies like Expansys sell Euro HTC phones to customers in the US and says it won't fully cover those phones. You can't use either model on 3G on T-Mobile USA, so for you the main difference would be the warranty.

[SOLVED!] Very dissapointed with LTE Samsung Phablets, any opinions please?

NOT DISSAPOINTED ANYMORE BOUGHT A SM-T715Y AND EVERYTING WORK FINE NOW, THANKS TO ALL
Hi, i bought this 3 Samsung Phablets
sm-t235y one year ago
sm-t705 3 months ago
sm-t715c yesterday
Im really dissapointed with this devices, all 3 devices are SUPPOSED to be LTE but none of them got LTE on US T-mobile. I understand its because of LTE bands, but im really frustrated cant get a phablet that works in LTE, its crazy, i know about businness model and LTE band for each region of world, but have no any other choice of buying this models because US version of this LTE devices has no phone capability.
H+ data seems not be as reliable as LTE, i have a Galaxy Note 4 provided by T-Mobile and LTE works really great on it! <10ms ping, better coverage, duble as fast as H+ download and uploads speed
I notice difference in Skype or Whatsapp calls the difference between LTE and H+ . Because of that i want to get a LTE working phablet.... i use a lot voip calls
sh-t715c is a very new device so there is no too much information but i have seen that sm-715 (not the sm-715c) in some pictures, seems to have proximity sensor and US LTE bands, it is true?
Any opinions will be welcome because im little lost, and dont know
*When i talk about LTE im talking not about just the LTE icon... im talking about for example... lower ping times than 40ms (on all this devices ping time is +-40ms) and (HOPE) better data service coverage with less interruptions.
Thanx in advance

What you are describing isn't Samsung's fault. Basically, it was your choice to purchase this specific model (815C). You could have purchased the T-Mobile specific model (817T) which has all of T-Mobile's LTE bands or the an unlocked AT&T model (817A) or an unlocked Canadian model (817W) which also have all of T-Mobile's bands or the international unlocked model (815N) which has T-Mobile's main LTE bands (and possibly all of them, which is what I have been trying to verify in this thread but no one has replied to it). The 815N goes for $539 on Amazon. If you are in a non-LTE band 12 area for T-Mobile then the 815N version will work just as well as the 817T, A or W versions on T-Mobile. If you are in a band 12 area then I would strongly advise to purchase the 817T, or unlocked A or W models.
In other words, the only advice anyone can give you is... if you really want good performance on T-Mobile, you need to buy a variant which supports it.
to further clarify..if you are looking for LTE AND voice calling then you should get (have got) the international version as the carriers block out the cellular voice calling (sure wifi-based skype etc always exist) at least that has been the practice all along upto the previous generation (not Samsung's fault..for that matter the Ipad mini lte does not have cellular voice calling either).
@mac231us, what is the full Samsung model number of your s2 and what is the model's FCC ID? (if it's not listed on the box or device then it should be listed under regulatory information under the about device menu under the system menu).
T815Y has LTE on ATT's network here in the states. I have one myself.
This one from this seller to be exact.

Hi myphone12345, i think you did not read me in deept or i have been not so clear
1-first of all, i have to say that i think that i could not use a 10 inches tab as a phone as you said... if i choose this models was because i like a phone between 7 and 8.4 max inches can fit in my pocket (they fit)... you recommend a 9.7 phone.... would have to keep phone on on hand or a bag.
2-In other hand, you recommend me to but a T-Mobile specific model (817T)... that, my friend, is not a phone... it is a tablet, it does not have speaker on front beside the front camera.... and again 9.7 inches....
3-Obviusly a tmobile device will have all of T-Mobile's LTE bands... thats my point... i want to a 7 to 8.4 phablet.... i mean a tablet with real phone capabilities, i know skype, google voice, and all voip and no... dont want that want to use a regular phone
I conclusion, in my opinion there is no samsung phablet 7 to 8.4 inches that work with all real lte bands and have real phone capabilities

dont understand friend, these are all international versions with LTE (not us LTE) and voice calling.... talking about sm-t715c specifically, i can make calls, use data service, but not real LTE speeds like as example my galaxy note 4.... all sm-t715c works great only problem is it has not LTE.... just H+.... and im talking about some "malificent" deals betwen samsung and companies like tmo att verizon... that samsung does not sell devices with US LTE because samsung obviusly has a big bussines with these carriers so samsung "help" tmo att verizon to users have to buy his devices....
but..... when a mad guy like me want a phablet, cant find one, because all samsungs tablet on tmo, att and verizon DOES NOT HAVE REAL VOICE CALL CAPABILITIES... just check all of them has not the speaker on front at side of camera...

I am confused too now...lol (sorry)
anyway...this much I know
my t715 (not C, Y etc) just T715 gets LTE on ATT (I have checked and let alone all the checking from all my experience using the tab S T805, Tab pro T325, Huawei Honor mediapad x2 gem-703, sharp sh-06f, Tab 4 7.0 sm-t235, oppo find 5, xperia ultraz, Chinese 7 inch mediatek-based phablet, and other NON-U.S carrier-branded devices (yes device junkie), this is the only device that I have used-again talking from among the non-u.s carrier-branded devices that I have used...this is the only device aside from oppo find 5 and the ultra z that actually does LTE (from checks AND how it FEELS speed-wise)...others all managed like H+
bands are LTE (B1)2100/(B3)1800/(B7)2600/(B8)900/(B28)700 MHz

Would this be the Chinese version of the t715 (hence the C...sorry if late to the discussion here or missed something already communicated)
https://translate.google.com/transl...UMqaxD5pZefME%2BH%2BnKk9SbX97MmDB&prev=search
Link above from TENAA (China equivalent of the U.S. FCC)
says Network frequency 900MHz, 1800MHz, 2GHz, Band 38, Band 39, Band 40, Band 41 (2555-2575 MHZ, 2575-2635 MHZ, 2635-2655 MHZ), Band 1, Band 3,1.9GHz, I
if so, (maybe?) it could explain the difference in bands/speeds versus the other international t715?
I see the C version is being sold on Amazon here in the U.S
@walleyhenderson, what @Mac231 and I are trying to say is that if you got the SM-T715Y or SM-T715N instead of the SM-T715C then you would have had both LTE and voice calling in most places with T-Mobile (and all places with AT&T).
What you wouldn't have had is band 12 with T-Mobile but that is not T-Mobile's main LTE band and it may not even be deployed where you are anyway.

You can easily find it on Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-Galaxy-T715-Black-International/dp/B0124SAQLI
According to what I can gather, as is the same as it's predecessor the Tab S, the international version is simply called SM-T715/T815. The T715n or T715no is a Korean model.
International versions don't usually have a letter after the model number.
My Tab S is an international version and is simply called a SM-T805.
I agree it's real confusing as to which model is which.

They all usually do have letters after the model name, it's just that it isn't always listed everywhere. Also, "N" is just the first letter. Meaning, that the full model number is actually SM-T715NZKEDBT for the black one and SM-T715NZWEDBT for the white one. Those are the variants of the Tab S2 8" LTE tablet that Samsung officially sells in Germany for example. Not sure where the SM-T715YXXXXX model is officially destined to by Samsung (my guess would be South America).

I'm gonna see if I can find the boxes to my tab s and tab a to see if I can confirm this.
Even Samsung themselves don't add the n to any of their international firmwares or source code, however they do for the rest.
The only official firmware with the n variable is Korean.

Hmm interesting........ I have NO desire for the dual-SIM, HOWEVER.......... if the dual-sim version comes with VoLTE, then I will most certainly be interested in it!! I found out that, at least with my carrier (T-Mobile, I live in the Chicago area in the U.S.), even though the XP has Band 12/700 MHz capability, because it doesn't have VoLTE (single-sim), it WILL NOT be able to utilize Band 12 for voice during phone calls, only the data portion can be used on Band 12 during a call. But with VoLTE, I'd be able to use Band 12 for voice too............which is important because my area is going to have it very soon! Band 12/700 MHz spectrum is very valuable b/c it can penetrate buildings much better than the higher bandwidths can, which means BETTER reception while indoors! :victory: Right now it doesn't matter, but in 6-8 months when we WILL have it, it will.
2 questions:
1) Are YOU getting your dual-sim version of the XP from Expansys HK?
2) The 16th? As in JUNE 16th kms??!!

I'm still considering the X or XP, The X will be available on the 7th whiles the XP is on the 16th, I think I heard the shop say this, but can't confirm yet, but it is before mid of this month for both.
If I do get one it will be from a local chain store in Hong Kong, that way I can inspect the unit before hand for scratches, dead pixels and other cosmetic defect or problem, HK only has the dual sim version, the second sim is a hybrid sim/micro sd, but that isn't a problem as I can get them both working together.
Once either one is released I can check for you, about the VoLTE, but cannot check the bands.
Initial finding of the bands for XP and X are:
LTE FDD 700/800/850900/1700/1800/1900/2100/2600
LTE TDD 1900/2300/2500/2600
WCDMA 800/850/900/1700/1900/2100

kms,
Yeah I've already confirmed the XP has Band 12/700 MHz capability, so don't worry about that. But getting a version of the XP that HAS VoLTE would be VERY important to me! I HATE it when other people around me can get reception indoors but I can't (it doesn't happen often, but it does happen). Having VoLTE would most likely eliminate this from happening the majority (if not ALL) the time.
That's fine. The one from the store will be the same as the dual-sim one from Expansys HK anyway.
So THIS month?!! :good::victory: That's f'ing awesome!!! Yeah we won't get the the single-sim XP here in the U.S. 'til I dunno, early to mid July? So even if I have to pay more for dual-sim, to have it extra early and WITH VoLTE would be extraordinary!! Man I REALLY HOPE the dual-SIM version of the XP has VoLTE!
Ok so say it does have it...........is there any reason to think it might not work here in the U.S. kms??!

HK expansys is likely to get the Hong Kong version, it's also a 64GB version, the only reason for not working in the US is the band, the band is 700, but there are various version of the 700 band, so not sure if this is the band 12.

Ughh you're right about the dual-sim one having 64 GBs! I don't need the 64GB version, like I don't need the extra SIM slot lol, but F it, whatever. IF this f'ing phone ACTUALLY has VoLTE on it, then I'll buy it. FML lol
Well wait a minute. There's a Hong Kong version? I don't think so kms..........the single-sim one I pre-ordered from Expansys US is the INTERNATIONAL version. Expansys US' own customer service people told me that they ONLY sell the international versions (unless otherwise noted). So I think the one you guys are getting will be the INTERNATIONAL version kms, but it'll be sold there in HK. Both the single and dual SIM versions of the XP (F8131 & F8132) have Band 12/700 MHz. So I don't see why it would be any different here vs. in Hong Kong to be honest with you.

If you can confirm the information is correct, then it's ok, extra internal memory is bettery, even 32Gb is getting slightly small these days, so the more the better.

Yeah but I already HAVE a 64 GB MicroSD card in my phone now, so I don't need the extra room, and won't be using it either.
Confirm what information kms??

You mean the single-sim one I pre-ordered, that it IS in fact the international version?? If so, I've already confirmed that with Expansys US. They told me they only sell the int'l version of phones UNLESS otherwise noted. Here is a copy & paste of their e-mailed response to me on that topic:
This would be the international version, please let us know if you have any other questions.
Regards,
Dulce
So kms, if that's what they sell, then the dual-SIM (F8132) model YOU'RE getting will also be int'l, so it will come with Band 12/700 MHz capability on it as well, which that page I linked you earlier confirmed. What I don't get is why the F8132 would have VoLTE on it but the single-sim F8131 wouldn't? But if your prediction is true, then I don't give a sh*t. lol I just want that f'ing phone!! lol

Volte won't work unless sony actually certifies the process with the carriers they intend to have it with. Volte will not work like the z5 didn't.

Ok.
So what do you think MGS? Get the XP with the best camera but can't utilize Band 12 for voice on a call (so can't benefit from its improved indoor reception advantage) & no HD Voice, or get the HTC 10 which still has a very good camera and has the Band 12/VoLTE/HD Voice advantage? Tough choice, for me anyway.

Ethically I'd say htc 10 as htc wants your money as they listen to their fans for the most part and go the extra mile supporting all carrier features. On the other hand I'm a big sony fan and enjoy the value of their hardware but let's be honest sony really doesn't care about us. They force us to buy international versions to get full features and gimp us phones without giving us legitimate reasoning. Have you ever talked to sony mobile support they are as clueless as we are.

You make some valid points MGS.
The fact that HTC STILL sells their phones through all the major carriers is an advantage all its own. I can go onto T-Mobile's website and buy the HTC 10 RIGHT NOW if I wanted to.
Yeah I mean, I can't lie, I love Sony's Xperia phones the most. But I am at wit's end here with all this hassle I have to go through to buy the d*mn thing, and then in dealing with the BS that comes with the actual phone. The int'l version is cheaper (yet better) and is coming out sooner than the U.S. version, so I don't really care about that. But this VoLTE thing really p's me off cuz I won't get the BEST reception with it even though I really should. Plus having to buy it unlocked is dumb too.
Oh dude, JUST the other day I spoke to them. They LITERALLY know nothing more about why the supreme morons that run that company do what they do than we do. Is it really THAT hard to get the phone certified? I mean, if you're not gonna offer people the chance to pay for it on a monthly basis (like carriers do) interest-free, and not release it on time (f'ing July??!), the LEAST you could do is go that extra mile and get the d*mn thing certified for VoLTE and HD Voice too.
So your answer is HTC 10 or XP? lol

Using an unlocked att device outside USA

I want to buy a galaxy note 5 from Amazon while I'm in America and use it in a different country where I live.
The device I am considering is the sm-n920a. I've checked the cellular bands and they Mach.
I'm have a few questions since it is not the international version or the sm-n920c that is sold in my country.
1. I heard people saying that it won't fully support my language since it is an att phone. It seemed odd to me because I thought that if the international version supports the language any module should.
2. Will there be a problem with OTA updates?
3. At the price point of 360$, is the note 5 really the best phone to buy?
Thanks

I have an unlocked AT&T Note 5 and an international one, both work perfectly even though I live outside America. And about updates I am not sure but you can always search for custom roms with the latest features for the device on the forum. And overall the n5 is a great phone in my opinion, has everything you need in a phone and more.

Question China variant missing B66 band on T-Mobile

Never purchased a non-US compatible device and had a question:
The China variant seems to have most T-Mobile bands (both do not have B71) as the global variant WITH THE EXCEPTION OF B66. Does anyone know whether this will be an issue?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
i get my china variant Mi 11 Ultra on Monday, im on T-mobile and i live in NYC. i can report back to you then.

Lucky you! Yes please let me know how the reception turns out. I don't really care about 5G since it's not that widespread, but wondering how 4G LTE will be like.
If you have any opinions on the China variant as you begin to use it, please post as well! Also considering it since there is a cheaper variant (8G+256GB).
Any updates how CN version working in NY with T-Mobile?
interesting to see speed test on 4G. Is actually supporting one 5G band.

when i ran speed test i get 10Mbps here in Queens at my house. but the real test for me will be at my job, since i dont get any WiFi there.
I also did a factory reset (a habit i always do) and playstore disappeared, i looked on youtube for easy video to re-install. This is my 1st Xiaomi phone, so im getting use to MIUI. but hardware, much better than my Note 20 Ultra. the display is better and the frame rate i see it faster on mi 11. I plan to flash global ROM, but stuck waiting 168 hours for unlock to go thru. this is only my 2nd day with the mi 11 and i like it already. going out later to take some pics.
Don't buy China version because it doesn't support well Carrier Aggregation combinations used by TMUS so you don't get good speed from network. Also it missing B71 and B66 bands - common in US networks. 5G only works with n41 SA when available theory.
Here is list of supported bands and Carrier Aggregation combinations: https://cacombos.com/device/M2102K1C

Disappointed to hear you are only getting 10Mbps in a city like Queens. Do update is on what your down speed is like at work!
Thank you and good luck with flashing to global!
Is there somewhere I can view a map of which T-Mobile bands are used throughout the US?

I've used Chinese version phones without B66 for years, with t-mobile / google fi. Never had any issue with it. My wife uses an iPhone US version, I have stronger signal than her sometimes.

yes. the coverage in those areas are bad either with the US iphone or Chinese android phones with tmobile, imho. i only travelled to those places so i am not authoritive on this assessment.

Wow why the difference? What kind of speeds were you getting with other phones at home? Was it about the same?
My mi11 in China can work 280Mbps by 5G. Although the band is a little less, it is not affected in China
