T-mobile just pushed out the April 1, 2020 system update to the LG G8 ThinQ. - LG G8 Guides, News, & Discussion

LG has really turned a page in update support and frequency.

Just putting this here, if you want to be able to root in the future, it is advised not to take this update since it patches the exploit used to root. There is a possibility that you may be able to downgrade, but still needs to be tested.

Moto system update , will it cause trouble?

I bought Moto E4 Plus, XT1774, Verizon prepaid version from Target a week ago. Bought an unlock code from eBay to unlock it successfully and it is used on Tmobile, all good.
I also removed several Verizon apps via adb commands. But I read somewhere that if I do a factory reset, these Verizon apps will come back. I have not tried it.
A few days ago I saw a system update notice, says new version: NDRS26.58-33-2 is ready to install. My question is:
1, Should I install it just for the security update benefits? I do not know what's in this update, assuming security update.
2, Is there a way to delete this update that is already downloaded to my phone? There appears to be no option to delete this download and make it go away permanently. I will be nagged by this alert every week I suppose if I cannot disable it.
Thanks in advance for any tips ,
Not sure if it will cause issues with what you did. More than likely it will just install the new version, and re-add the apps. Unless you're rooted I don't think you can delete the update. It will keep asking you to install until you do.
Didn't think the E4 Plus would get any updates. I got the Sprint version, and haven't seen any updates yet.

It will continue to get system/security updates, but not OS upgrades. The system/security updates are based on carriers (unless you have an unlocked version then you'll get them from Moto when ready).

With having the sprint version, so far I haven't got any security updates. I have the June 1st security patch. I did flash the unlocked version ROM, so I wonder if I will get an update directly from Moto and not worry about Sprint delaying them.
Another thing I wonder is will Moto release an update soon to take care of krack vulnerability?

Note 9 (SM-N960U) on ATT - Never received OTA updates

Currently running Baseband Version N960USQU1CSC1, Android Security Patch level: March 1, 2019.
I have never received an OTA update since buying my phone in Aug 2018. For the Android Pie update and all updates since, I have been performing them via ODIN.
Neither AT&T not Samsung have been able to troubleshoot this issue. Appreciate any help on how I can setup my phone to receive OTA updates.
Thanks!

The new firmware is in another post. Just Odin and you'll be current.
I have unlocked on AT&T , and just got the April update this morning, all OTA. Never had to Odin the updates , but definitely not as quick as the carrier branded models. I have only added the APN names when I got the phone(preorder so August 2018) and that's the only setting I changed.
Didnt think flashing instead of waiting for OTA would cause any troubles, but Samsung is sneaky sometimes. Have you thought that maybe you flashed the incorrect files, maybe carrier vs unlocked? Also, factory wipe and reset ? I know the pie update did some screwy things for me and it seemed better after a wipe .

Can I manually update my Security Patches?

Since switching from Sprint to T-Mobile last spring with my unlocked Galaxy S10+, I've yet to get a new security update (Still says I have the latest version at April 1st)
Can I manually install the Security update without root my phone? Would it work to manually install it?
I took into a T-Mobile store and after fiddling with it for a long time they suggested calling Samsung. I didn't do that yet...
I have factory reset it but that didn't help.
Thanks in advance.
Yeah you can flash the latest firmware with the patched version of Odin. Here's the thread:

LG V40 Sprint would not receive security update

Hi guys,
I have LG V40 from Sprint and it is unlocked. Currently being used on T-mobile network.
Problem: the phone is not receiving security update, in fact the last update is from May 1, 2019.
My question is, can someone capture the URL of OTA download file?
Here is the guides on how to capture: Use windows Software fiddler as proxy server, connect your phone to PC and check update via proxy server.
Please help!
You can try manually updating it. Just download the right firmware for your model.
Why wouldn't you kill two birds with one stone? Cross flash to the US version, thereby unlocking HD voice, Wi-Fi calling, volte, and all the other T-Mobile bands. And update to the January 2020 security release.
I think the real question is, why are you sticking with the Sprint build?

No OTA after crossflash

I have a Sprint V40 crossflashed with an unlocked V40 kdz, version V405UA20e. I thought OTA was supposed to work with this, but it looks like there have been several security patches since this one dated January 1, 2020. Was I mistaken in that assumption?
I think that if I flash the latest security patch release with LGUP it'll wipe the phone, so I'd like to at least wait for Android 10 before doing that unless there's a way to preserve my settings or somehow fix OTA. Thanks in advance.
You are mistaken. I have the unlocked version of the V40 Thinq and I can confirm that there has not been an update since then. I recently crossflashed with the EBW version, Open United Kingdom flavor because I was tired of waiting for Android 10.
