T5 4Gb/64 - Huawei MediaPad T5 Guides, News, & Discussion

Hi All
Just got myself the Huawei Mediapad T5 4Gb/64 WiFi only. It has the SIM portion of the SD card blanked off. Does anyone know if it still has the LTE capability on board or has that function been removed entirely. in other words is it possible to enable LTE?

It's sold as having LTE but I'm not sure it actually has it unfortunately. Someone else might be able to prove me wrong but I don't think it does.

It doesn't. If that was possible, people wouldn't pay 100€ more for the LTE version lol.

MI5 - Can I Bring It to VZW In The US?

Hi Everyone,
I've been reading the reviews and specs for the MI5 Pro and am considering purchasing one. GSM/CDMA support, 128Gb Storage, etc. sounds great to me.
My plan is to have something with an unlocked BL so I can root, TWRP, and AOSP it just the way I want it.
Before I do how much of a pain will it be to getting working on Verizon's 4G/LTE networks? If I understand what I am reading correctly it supports all the frequency bands on Big Red. Any thoughts? Comments and suggestions are requested on this.
Thanks in Advance
I should also add this is not for the BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) program. I have a monthly plan and am up for a new device but don't want what they offer.
I highly doubt you'll be able to get it to work on Verizon. Even unlocking GSM bands is a pain.

VZW is CDMA. The specs say it supports all the needed bands I just don't know if they are "active" out of the box.

I don't specifically know about verizon, but our local CDMA carriers do work with the Mi5.
Cdma carriers the us only allows approved devices.
No hope.

You can be the guniea pig and try it out but your chances of getting it to work on Verizon are slim to none.

The more I research this the more dim the results look. It seems that the problem with bringing it to a CDMA network is lack of 4G functionality. Definitely a deal breaker for sure......
Verizon only allows approved devices on their network (read: their branded devices). So there's pretty much no chance of your Mi5 (an unapproved, semi-compatible, and untested device as far as they are concerned) getting on the network, as your MEID needs to be in their system for you to connect to their network.
Stick with an actual GSM carrier.

I knew that was how they were in the past but I thought maybe they loosened up on it. They now have a Bring Your Own Device program. Still doesn't get past getting 4G working flawlessly on CDMA.
I need to look deeper at GSM carriers in the US. Coverage in my area is important for work.
I just saw you message and it is a bit late, but I have the Mi5 and use it on Verizon. It is only 3G on that. I can also use both my Verizon Sim card and my AT&T sim at the same time and have two carriers with two different numbers on the same phone. I had to do nothing to get it to work on Verizon other than pop in the sim card. I hope this helps.
Thanks DFSPCC, I was wondering the same thing and having it listed to work with VZN in the US on willmyphonework.net up to 3G speeds, which is fine by me. Considering the low price at the moment for the Mi5, I think is a great option.
Never to late
I'm considering on getting this phone... 5.7 inch with OK specs to work with Verizon only thing is you said 3g but that's OK its just to play and test hopefully I can root it... Don't knkw if they have any Roms for it..... Ive been HTC for over 10 yrs and they have let me down been waiting for a 5.7 or bigger... The max was nice but bad specs realy slow so.... I was going to do the s8 plus but now I see the U12 coming soon. But i don't know if Verizon will carry it... They don't carry the U11 don't know why.... What do you think? And thanks again for your time and help god bless....

My apologies, this was my misunderstanding around CDMA tailored devices.
I had conflated CDMA with a version of using eSIM or something of that nature.

To answer your question, data will work on verizon in some areas, but voice won't. Same with all Huawei flagships of late.
Your only hope would be rooting and perhaps enabling VoLTE on verizon, in which case there's a small chance you could get it working.

Verizon uses the SIM card only for 4g data, LTE, but for voice it still uses CDMA. I really don't understand why Verizon and Sprint continue using this system, they seem to be the only one in the world with China and maybe some other areas, but most of the countries rely fully on GSM for both data and voice. This is the reason why the p20 pro will only work for data on Verizon but not for voice unless, and just maybe, you use a Chinese version I think the L00 model that uses CDMA too.

Very interesting because the U11 doesn't have cdma either but voice works on it over LTE. If we could get that on the P20 we would be in business

You are right. It seems like now Verizon is trying to use only services through LTE like VOLTE and is trying to turn off its old cdma network.
https://www.androidheadlines.com/2017/06/htc-u11-can-used-verizon-even-without-cdma-support.html
Even though it seems like for this the cellphones need to go through Verizon approval and they are not 100% functional like it would be with ATT and Tmobile, which network is 100% GSM/LTE. You can see on the link below that the phone was only approved to use one band on Verizon which could cause really poor service.
https://community.verizonwireless.com/thread/942418
Knowing this and all the issue between Huawei and EEUU government I seriously doubt this approval would happen, but who knows.

I think you missed the point in the last link I posted. There it is mentioned that the cell phone has most of Verizon bands if not all but only 13 was authorized to be used and this was what causes many of the issues with the U11 on Verizon network.

Your Pixel says NONVZW because it was not bought directly on Verizon but it is a cell phone that is configured to work on both GSM and CDMA including full compatibility with Verizon so it shouldn't be considered as the same than P20 pro but if you still want to do it go ahead and good luck.
Anytime the same discussion. Thia phone is not official supported by Verizon. It will work on GSM Based Networks. But not on CDMA.

who ever said the US did not have sims is right.
at one point in time the cdma guys did not have a sim card and in some phones still to this day out there they may or may not have a sim. if the person buying the phone gets bull **** from the sales person and buys a locked phone good changes are they may or may not have a sim.
now update to this day.
most if not all companys here have a sim now. they were forced by company's over seas and other gsm company's here being cheaper and no locking you down to a pay over 2 year plan that you more or less are selling a kid to the company to pay the bill.
but I love the fact that we get sims now. If they tryed to pull that bull **** with me now lol.

It's got nothing to do with that. CDMA does not require a sim, never has. LTE is what the sim is for because LTE is actually a GSM technology.
I dont know alot about the U11 but from what I could see from a quick search it actually does have all the Verizon LTE bands including 13. 13 is the most important one because its verizon main LTE band.
Guess which band the P20 pro doesn't have...13. It probably will not work and even if you could somehow manage to get it to. it probably wouldn't be a very good expensive, but if you want to spend 700 bucks to try to prove us all wrong more power to you.

unless you didnt get a mobile phone until like 6-7 years ago...you would know that prior to that Verizon was primarily only CDMA and DID NOT USE SIM CARDS.
you are simply showing your age or lack of experience with mobile phones when you assume Verizon has always had sim cards...which is simply not true.

Here is what Google posted on its website. Some of it seems confusing when it comes to which kind of 5G(sub-6 or mmWave) each carrier supports.

Google Fi uses (or used to use) TMobile infrastructure, so I assume it will be just fine. Ask your carrier if you really need to know.

My guess is they are waiting for compatibility tests to enable it. Worst case is it will require a software update that will come soon after launch. In any event it need not be a worry.

I don't know what an R15 SIM card. I just know the old big SIMs and the newer NanoSIMs.
I can see that, but I only have one phone. lol So for me eSIM is great!
I didn't think so. Didn't have to go to the T-Mobile Store or anything. Just called customer service and they set it up on their end. Last step was the rep texted me a link to a special QR code that I use the Pixel 5 to scan, then wallah, all set up!
I really won't miss physical SIM cards at all. But if I ever got 2 phones, then maybe I'd switch back.

I think the esims are very compelling. I do switch phones from time to time.
An R15 physical Sim card from tmobile allows users to access their Stand Alone 5G network. The old Sim cards will only allow access to their non stand alone 5G network.
Stand Alone is supposed to be far more superior to non stand alone. After two hours I don't notice the difference. LoL

All I know right now is according to Google, MMwave support is "coming".
The phone itself supports all 4 of T-Mobiles current 5G bands.
I also know you need a R15 Sim card to access the SA 5G network.
Other than that, does our software support SA 5G. I really don't know. But at least I have the right Sim card.

Data only on 4g.
Has anyone been able to to try it?
I was hoping someone could say there experience with using it on Verizon's network?
It seems this reviewer tried it on Verizon: pcmag com /product-guides/137219/asus-rog-phone-3
We asked in the comments and I emailed him personally but he did not respond.
I think it working on 4g is a good bet. You would just have to root to be able to enable VoLTE and Wifi calling. Like they did for the ROG phone 2.

Question Wifi calling for 1+ 10 pro on Verizon?

Has anyone been successful at getting wifi calling to work on Verizon? The option is not even there for me.
Am I the only one who has had this issue?
Seems like there should be some solution to this
Have you spoken with Verizon about this?
I'm based in the UK so I don't have this issue but from what I've seen though, the likes of Verizon and T-Mobile just mess with so much crap I honestly don't see a point in getting a phone from them, it literally just prolongs the pain and they'll never change.
If I were you I wouldn't buy from them again.
With that being said, is your model the 2215? Are you able to change it to 2213? (EU region)
This may work unless it's a carrier based issue and it's blocked by them.
I'd assume that it is Verizon blocking it, give them a call and see what they say, if they aren't helpful (I'm guessing they won't be) then either send it back (if you can) or change region to Global 2215 (if you aren't already on it) or 2213 if you can.
Do you really need it?

I do need it. I am in a very rural area and my truck gets wifi from its' larger antennae. So if I want to talk with people while I am driving, I need wifi calling.

Yep that sounds familiar, there's was a company in the UK that does and says similar useless things.
To change region you'd need to rollback to the earlier version of android 12, but instead of using your current models firmware you'd change to something else like 2215 if Verizon doesn't use 2215 or 2213 if it does.
Bare in mind this may still not fix it and you really should make sure that Verizon devices can do this, check out one of the change region threads on XDA for the 10 pro.
