P30 pro video zoom question - Huawei P30 Pro Questions & Answers

Hi everyone
I'm on the 10.1 update.
And Huawei's made it so once you start video recording you have to pinch to zoom in and out in gradual increments. Which I hate, because you get that pixelated ugliness just before you hit 5x zoom. Is there anyway to jump straight to wide, 1x, 5x and 10x zoom after you have started filming? Have they removed the option or am I missing something?

There is zoom slider in right side of the screen and by tapping those "bolded" dots will jump you straight to wide, 1x, 5x etc.

No you don't. You can't jump while recording. That's what he asks

P20 Pro Zoom Issue After EMUI 9 Update and Artefacts Present When Zooming

After installing the EMUI 9 update when I zoom, especially at 10x, the photos taken are not what they appear on the screen before taking them. Instead, the photo taken is something that is lower down to what I was trying to take a photo of. For example, if I try to take a picture of the B key on my laptop it takes a picture of the space bar.
Furthermore, whilst this hasn't only been occurring after the EMUI 9 update, very small artefacts that stay in the same position are present at high zoom, especially 10x zoom (they are invisible at no zoom and only become slightly visible at 5x zoom), when the camera focuses on an object. They appear like small white dots (visible when you zoom in on something that is black in colour as the white dots become more visible). However, they don't appear when taking the photo due to post-processing smoothing the photo out. They are not present though when taking pictures in the pitch black so surely they are not dead pixels? You can though see it on video at 10x zoom. The lens is clean. Is this normal?
Any help is much appreciated,
Thank you.
I've investigated the problem further regarding the first issue and I believe it must be something to do with the telephoto lens not always functioning, which happened straight after updating to EMUI 9, therefore, only the main sensor takes the picture, hence why the final photo appears further down than the preview photo. Also, if I take a photo and then look at it in the gallery and then go back to the camera, the preview image is shifted and the image quality is worse, which would make sense if the telephoto lens is not working when zooming. However, it does seem to work sometimes.
Can someone else test this as it must be a software issue.
I'm on EMUI 9.0.0.168
Thank you.
Telephoto lens preview and capturing will only works when the phone decide that the light is sufficient enough. Else it will use interpolated image captured from main sensor.
This been discussed in other threads as well

Xiaomi Mi 9 camera zoom lag and delay

So recently I noticed that zoom in and out is actually delayed about half a second.
Anyone experiencing same issue ?
What are the fixes for this?
It's really frustrating
Thank you for all of your responds

When you say that the zoom is lagging, are you talking about switching from the 1x camera to the 2x one?

Exactly, pinch zooming is delaying for a half second

You don't pinch to switch between the 1X and 2X cameras, you point to the 1X/2X icon in the lower middle. No need to pinch before you take a photo, this will only mask the outer areas. It's better to crop the image afterwards, this will achieve the same thing and is easier to do with the picture already taken.
In short, pinching in the viewfinder will not zoom, it will crop the picture.
I think there was a misunderstanding. By pinch to zoom I mean that for example I am taking a video with front camera and let's say I zoom to my nose. So zoom process takes about 0.5 second to react to my pinch to zoom gestion. Hope that will help.

Video zoom

Hi,
It's it possible to use the zoom continuously for video? So far zoom is showing a step by step incremental or decremental behaviour.
Yes You Can.....just Keep your finger on Current zoom position in camera app and Just Slide it left or Right without Lifting.....you will zoom in and zoom out continuously .

Camera automatically taking photos

hi everyone
I'm using the stock camera app and I notice that it sometimes automatically takes photos after switching between 1x, 5x or 10x zoom and after tapping the screen twice, I think...? I'm not 100% sure. Is there a control feature or setting in not understanding?

Question Dumb question: how do I access the wide-angle camera?

OK I can't figure out how to open the wide-angle camera and take a photo. The official Camera app doesn't have it anywhere that I can see. I'm sure it's right under my nose, but where?
Open the camera app, on top of photo mode you'll see 1X, tap on the left dot and it will go in 0.6X(Ultra wide lens), or pinch in with two fingers to change zoom, when you'll get at 0.6X zoom it will change the lens to the ultra wide one. Another way is trought pro mode, click lens on bottom right and choose UW(ultra wide)
Huh. Well I'll be damned. I never, ever would have figured that out in a million years.
On my Xiaomi 9 the wide angle lens was like a fisheye. This one is straight. Weird! OK thanks anyway, I appreciate that.
Another dumb question: how do I access the "telemacro" camera and what does it do?
In fact, is there some tutorial somewhere that walks you through all of the camera's features and how to use them? I'm looking at https://www.mi.com/global/mi-11/ and it's mentioning tons of features that I didn't even know were there. One-Click AI Cinema? Ultra Night Video? Night mode?
