Chances for new Golden Snap features to be bought to P30 pro - Huawei P30 Pro Questions & Answers

The P40 Pro has the Golden Snap feature which is pretty much best shot, a 4k video will be shot and the AI picks out the best frame as per other devices.
Huawei's version stands out as it can also remove reflections and passerbys.
Is it feasible that some clever people here can extract that from the P40 Pro and get a working version available for the P30 Pro and other Huawei devices?
I'm aware that the P40 Pro has some new focussing technique that probably is integral to all this happening and the answer is probably a no, but if you don't ask, you don't get

You'll be lucky. Apart from Energy Ring there's no development happening on the P30 Pro.
Great device.
Crap Huawei.

Huawei is not like Xaiomi. Must of the new features are limited only to latest phones. Even if your old device is capable of adding this

Filmic Pro

I recently contacted support and here is their response:
Thank you for writing in. Actually, we are currently working to officially support the Huawei P20 Pro in the near future, but it is yet to be released because it is requiring major changes in the code. As it stands, it is not possible to implement manual white balance functionality and the device has no support for high bitrates.

So that's means P20 Pro wont get Filmic Pro because Huawei color OS?
Not sure but they're definitely working on it. Here's some more info:
"It's my understanding that the Huawei P20 Pro has enough correct implementation of the Camera 2 API for FiLMiC Pro to support the device as soon as we get the white balance and bitrate issues handled."
Have you tried using Open Camera on the P20 Pro yet?
I tried it ages ago but didn't like the UI, I've heard that it doesn't have the "post sharpening" which is good for some poeple
Filmic works fine on my P20 Pro.
Oh okay cool, They must've updated it

Can you confirm it records at 4k, as well as locking the white balance, and ISO?
Many thanks
Yeah you can. Also 720p at 240fps but not 960fps

P20 Pro Selfie Night mode?

I just read a post that P30 and P30 Pro are receiving an update that has selfie night mode... does anyone knows if we're going to receive that kind update in the future too?
Here is a link of the post:
https://www.gsmarena.com/huawei_p30_and_p30_pro_receiving_selfie_night_mode_with_latest_emui_update-news-38637.php
It's possible in EMUI 10 or in a patch, but since some of the updates that p30 pro got so far and none of the previous flagships didn't get(aka improvement in camera app) i highly doubt that.
They didnt even add HDR to the selfie camera in the P20 pro. which was in the mate 20 series, and honor devices using the same sensor and sometimes devices with slower chipset. so i doubt they will add it to P20 pro.

Camera quality between K20 Pro and OP 7 Pro

I'm planning to buy a new phone with better custom ROM support, but confused between these two - K20 Pro and OnePlus 7 Pro. The price of both phones are at different extends.
So if the K20 Pro has better or comparable quality in the camera section against OP 7 Pro I would definitely go for K20 Pro and can save money for others. Please share your thoughts on this.
OP 7 pro has better camera, but K20 pro camera isn't not bad at all for day to day normal shots taking, if you're a camera guy then it's OP > K20

The only real reason to get OP 7 Pro over K20 is for OIS. Makes a real difference during low light and while shooting video.
Wide-angle camera is also a little better and has manual focus. During day time, you won't get much difference cause both have same main sensor. GCam fixes most of the color inconsistencies for both phones.
If you plan on shooting at night time, I highly suggest you go for OnePlus. Even the 7T has OIS so that's a good middle ground [and has 2x zoom instead of 3x].
You shouldn't believe anything you read in the tech press about OnePlus phones--especially what you read on XDA.
OnePlus fired all of the programmers who created Oxygen after OnePlus Marshmallow and moved all coding to the Hydrogen team in China to save money.
Hydrogen was supposedly the Chinese ROM for OnePlus phones--but since OnePlus doesn't actually sell phones in China they were programming a ROM nobody used.
Since Oxygen Nougat coding on OnePlus phones has been completely inept--a fact that is widely known among developers and software engineers but not discussed on XDA.
The last OnePlus phone developers actually used was the OP3T--which was the last OnePlus phone released before the Oxygen programmers were fired.
All development for OnePlus phones is artificially sustained by OnePlus who gives free phones to developers since they would never spend their own money on OnePlus devices.
Since developers don't actually use OnePlus phones as their daily driver ROMs and kernels for OnePlus phones are compiled. These ROMs always have bugs--any build of any custom ROM for a OnePlus phone always has bugs even if it's supposedly stable.
Since OnePlus ROMs are compiled by developers who don't use the phones daily themselves multiple ROMs will often have the exact same bugs at the same time. Someone will post code to fix the bug on GitHub and if the code is approved all of the devs for the various ROMs will incorporate the same code into their own ROMs.
Usually developers of OnePlus custom ROMs don't know there are bugs in their "stable" ROMs until users report them and these bugs are sometimes serious enough to affect the basic functionality of the phone.
I personally used "stable" OnePlus custom ROMs that wouldn't boot up beyond the splash screen, where the ability to make or receive calls was broken, where Bluetooth, WiFi or GPS was broken, where opening the settings or trying to make a call would completely crash the UI--you get the idea--and this was all on ROMs that were labeled as stable.
Because the firmware on OnePlus phones is ineptly coded it's impossible to take decent pictures without using the ported Google Camera App--a $200 phone from Samsung or Xiaomi takes better pictures than a $700 OnePlus phone using the native OnePlus Camera app.
OnePlus phones are overpriced and ineptly coded--phones from Xiaomi and Honor are a much better value.
Don't read too much into the above post.
As far as hardware is concerned, there is not much difference between the 2, with the exception of OIS being added to the OP phone. Both have the same Sony sensor as the main module, but OP have slightly better secondary modules.
Software wise Xiaomi seem to be ahead of OP, in terms of computational photography. As I see it, Google and Huawei are way ahead, with Samsung third and probably Xiaomi 4th when it comes to computational photography.
So OP edge the camera hardware, but Xiaomi edge the camera software.
I also in confusion about these two phones.
Finally Op cancelled only for Headphone jack.
Better check both phones in gsmarena camera tool and check yourself

Already checked, viewed videos and read many articles. But I want to hear from real people besides reviews, that's why I'm asking.
- are the images great with the photos taken with GCam?
- does the EIS work with all three cameras? or with any camera?
- if the K20 Pro is compared to OnePlus 6T in camera how do you rate them?

- GCam makes colors match up closely. Night mode is minorly better on the OP, but for a casual user it's not incredibly noticeable. Astrophotography is just as good as on any other phone. Main cameras are the same on both phones (48MP Sony), while wide angle is minorly better on the OP (imo, not enough of a quality difference to justify price difference)
- EIS works with main camera on both phones in GCam, OP has OIS on main camera as well. Neither phone can take wide angle video in gcam. OP can't take wide angle video in stock, K20 Pro can.
- K20 Pro is very significantly better than 6T. It matches with the OP 7 Pro much better.

Thank you so much for the details mate. But unfortunately I'll be buying a pre-owned OnePlus 7T tomorrow. A deal is almost confirmed. I found a couple of things of 7T better for me than K20 Pro. The motorized pop-up camera is one I don't like in K20 Pro, and that's why I'm not even picking 7 Pro, which I can get in the same range. Also I love the 90Hzv display.
These things are too personal and I won't say that K20 Pro is not a good one. It's a great device and I should have brought earlier once but I didn't have money that time.
Anyways thanks again for the detailed information.
EDIT: Just dropped the deal because of unreliability.
I just use GCam and it's miles better than the stock op7

Getting the Mate 30 Pro APK into the P30 Pro?

I love the P30 Pro, my only frustrating is the slightly processed look (over sharpening) to photos in Auto mode, avoided if shooting in Pro mode with RAW on (the jpeg produced is directly from the RAW file so no heavy processing at all) but would be great if auto mode results were more natural... I see this quote from a review of the Mate 30 Pro "Although the phone has the same main camera sensor as the P30 series, Huawei did changes to the processing. The biggest change visible is the removal of a degrading sharpening filter, allowing the phone to actually take advantage of the pixel-sharp clarity that the sensor is able to capture. In daylight as well as in most low-light scenes, this allows the Mate 30 Pro to showcase amongst the best spatial resolution and detail retention of any phone currently on the market" any way to delete the P30 pro camera apk and install the Mate 30 apk??

Shortly NO, you can't. In order to have the same functions as Mate 30 Pro, you would need root acces in order to install a mooded apk (P30 Pro has Kirin 980, Mate 30 Pro has Kirin 990 which is slightly different) + the camera libs & rest of the camera xml files.
Only hope for the P30 Pro users is that Huawei will update camera processing and other algorithms in order to match the ones from Mate 30 Pro in the next 2-3 firmwares releases, but i have doubts about it, because Mate 30 Pro IS atm their NEW FLAGSHIP and as it seems, in March they will release P40 Pro, so don't think they will work on more camera tweaks/improvements after that release, judging how they've done in P20 Pro case, which gets only security patches and EMUI 10 update, scheduled to be pushed to devices sometime in March

Glad i could be usefull and sry if it's not the answer you've expected, but on Huawei devices things are a lot more complicated than are on let's say Samsung, where you still can unlock bootloader, root device, flash customised deodexed firmwares, mod a ton of apps and so on...
On Huawei we have to use stock firmware with minor improvments using 3rd party apps, because the've stopped giving unlocking bootloader codes, so therefore no root/no devs to create custom firmwares or mood kernel/no help from OEM....

Huawei Golden Snap Features

I was wondering if this feature will be implement to P30 pro. It's pretty neat.
Hope it will be available soon and they gonna keep updating it.

As i've read the description above on their launch on P40 line-up, yes, we might get this option after we'll get EMUI 10.1, because i think it has to do with new EMUI version that will bring camera software improvements and to device overall :highfive:
''It’s not the only software enhancement brought by new EMUI and camera from P40 line-up. As before, Huawei is using AI to automatically recognize scenes and adjust the camera settings proactively, but the P40 series introduces Golden Snap. That combines burst photos with AI, doing analysis on over 90 facial features and over 30 different postures to select the best image out of the burst. It doesn’t stop there, though. Golden Snap also promises to remove passers-by in the image, and can even remove reflections from glass and other reflective surfaces.''

Golden Snap for EMUI 10.1 P30 Pro
I just got my P30 Pro updated to the latest EMUI 10.1 but I don't see the Golden Snap feature anywhere. Anything I'm missing? Awaiting response.
