Right side for me. Still, just because it's faded doesn't mean it's over. I wanted to unlock the bootloader, but I can't go voiding the warrantee when I may end up needing it.
I'll probably return it and wait for the US release of the G 5G equivalent.
If all it needed was a break-in, that should've been done at the factory.

I am in the same situation. I see the green tint, but it isn't as bad as when I first turned it on.

I posted a new thread over in the Q&A with a poll about it. The moto support forums are starting to buzz with folks complaining, and the best buy reviews are starting to roll in with photos. Moto may have a slightly big problem on their hand.

Mine did the same after just 1 week, i send it to the service and they said they ordered the hardware for replacement, couldnt return the phone and get my money back

UK model (single sim) MOTP-EDGBLK - same issue.
Only apparent when the brightness is below 50%.

I received #4 replacement
This time I noticed some changes in hardware
The screen looks OK for 18 days
Nothing funny so far

I returned mine back to Amazon and bought another - after 3 days, same issue.
Gave up, got a refund and bought a Pixel 5.
Such a shame, I really liked the Moto Edge design, size and battery life. Unfortunately it seems that Motorola can't make phones, had a screen related issue on my Moto X Force a few years back too, seems like Motorola have not improved at all.

I assume it's difficult to have good yields due to the waterfall design. There could be a relatively high failure for this type of design.
It's funny how my 2nd Edge is exhibiting the same green tint. I was so sure I could put this behind me.

The waterfall design isn't new though. Other OEMs have made similar style displays (Samsung, OPPO etc) and none then have such a high failure rate like this.

Whatever the source is, Moto is clearly struggling to obtain good panels. Reviews say the screen is great but they fail so easily. It's beyond strange.

Day 23 of #4 replacement unit
It's still too early to say trouble free, but compare it with the one on first post

I changed the theme to white in all apps, it's weird because the only color that appears green is grey

Green tint seems to come before purple streaks and double images, no? Look at reviews on best buy, green tint is the least of your worries.
Also you could use swift installer to make certain apps black. I only noticed the green tint cause I happened to have another phone next to the edge.

3 days in from bestbuy retail stock, box has a 20 october 2020 date on it. No screen issues. Of course, when I have the light theme enabled there are often situations where I can see a slight greenish/grey hue to the edge as it begins to curve. That's just optics and not at all as some of the pics I have seen. Sweet ride so far.

As of December 8th, no more purple blotches, which has shadows of the notification bar, and cutout. Hasn't happened in about 2 weeks. I did notice, with the latest build(October), that the battery drains a touch faster. Still don't know if it's curing of screen materials, or update.

Screen is still perfect after full 8 weeks

GPU / Display Crash on Wake Up

Got my N4 at the T-Mobile store on Newbury St. in Boston today, has been great so far, noticed an issue though. Was using it moderately for the better part of the day without any problems. Tonight upon taking it out of my pocket and waking it up, the display immediately went solid white, followed by a wave of discolored pixels moving from left to right across the screen. It then rebooted itself and the issue has not reoccurred since. I've seen the exact same thing happen with an LCD before on an Intel laptop while fudging around to get the graphics drivers for an Ubuntu install up and running. Guessing this is only a driver issue based on that experience. Not about to sound the knee jerk panicked OCD RMA freakout air raid party siren at this point as it's been a really solid device other than that, but worth reporting nonetheless.

If it happens again, I would contact T-Mobile about it.
Meh.
It is the first batch so minor issues like that and the screen looking weird due to glue drying will occur.

I don't know. The glue in the side bars hadn't binded properly for some devices and leaked into the LCD, causing a slight yellow tint. Won't happen with the 2nd Batch onwards, though.
I'd try to run a graphic heavy game to see if the gpu is failing.
If it does again, return it.

Bought mine from a T-Mobile store in Dearborn Michigan yesterday morning and mine has been working perfectly. I have not had any yellow tint issues or rattles etc. I am very happy with the device, sold my GNEX and hour after I bought the N4 and not looking back. I did get the T-Mobile insurance on the device, I feel it's a good thing to do since it is a new product release.

Could also be a glitch in the driver. Have had plenty of similar occasions with my Xperia Neo when trying out buggy ROMs.
Definitely has nothing to do with glue drying. I'll push the GPU a little bit today. But when this issue occurred, remember, the phone had been idle my pocket. Seems like its more a matter of waking the phone up than a matter of the GPU being under any duress.

I wonder how much the screen will cost to replace if it breaks... The Gnex is 150+ for a screen/digitizer.

I bought the insurance as well. Do you know if I were to "lose" the phone and claim it through insurance and pay the deductible to replace it with another one would the old N4 be useless? Do they burn their phones like Verizon does using the IMEI?

As a last resort perhaps clean slate by reflashing the image. Question is if Tmobile makes their modified image available. Or, if you don't care about Tmobile customizations just flash the official Nexus 4 image.

It's a Nexus - I'm quite certain the only modification T-Mobile made is a $50.00 restocking fee sticker on the box.
Just a followup on this, I haven't seen the white screen/wave of fading pixels issue since the first time. However, I found one dead pixel (black) a couple days ago, and today I found a brand new second dead pixel about an inch away from the first one. I have the feeling this display is simply defective. I bought it from T-Mobile. They don't have any left in stock to exchange for right now. Looks like it's gonna be a while to get this one swapped out.

[Q] Stuck pixel/s - fix, return, or live with?

Hi guys,
So technically I'm on my third HTC One, the first bulged at the USB port with a scuff, and the second was opened in store and had similar bulging so I refused it.
The third seemed good, and so I took it. I went home, set it all up, checked for bad pixels and it was grand. So i set it up, installed all my stuff, unlocked the bootloader and rooted etc.
So, dial forward a week, and I notice a brighter spot on a white background, right on the edge of the screen, on the left. I'd guess its a few pixels, as it is kinda triangular, and bigger than just one I believe. Using a pixel tester tool, they only show up on green (looks more white) and white (looks brighter), not on black, red or blue. So, I'm guessing its a group of sub-pixels.
It's one of those things - it doesn't bother me that much except I know its there, so I get drawn to it, particularly on white browser screens. I've briefly tried a pixel fixer app but it didn't fix it. So, I need some advice really, I love the phone now that I have (had) one that was perfect, but this has disappointed me. I'd hate to get back into a cycle of more returns for more issues like overhang, camera etc, if they even have any in stock. So, has anyone any advice on a possible fix, as that would be the best solution?
If not, given I've unlocked the bootloader and rooted and stuff, am I likely to encounter some resistance trying to exchange this? I got it from Three, and I intend to call round to them shortly to talk about it, but wanted some advice first.
Thanks for any help,
Matt
If it isn't too annoying I say live with it. You'll get used to it eventually.
If you replace it again there's a good chance you'll get one with a worse problem.
Replaced
In the end, I went with the replacement - sat in the store and checked off a list of the common faults I've seen haha, from aluminium quality to video hissing!
Think I've finally got a great one; it had a different batch number, HT32WW, as compared to HT338W for both the previous two. Very pleased! I can hopefully now relax - bar any more sudden dead pixels!
I'll add that Three were really great about it, very apologetic, I dunno why they have a reputation for poor customer service, maybe their call centres? Anyway, yeah, kudos to them!
Anybody saying live with it is a total idiot. Its like buying a car and saying it has a crack on the window but live with it. If its broken, change it! Its free and you deserve a problem free device for the price.
Yeah, and given that attitude I had Amazon send me three devices in a row, and none of them is free of dead pixels (no gaps etc. nonetheless). If you're going for pure you might have to stay strong to finally receive the one you've been waiting for .

[Q] Marks on screen in low light

I got my GSM Dev Edition last week and in the last few days I've noticed dark, asymmetrical streaks that almost look like scratches or claw marks in the bottom left quarter of the screen. These only show up on dark blue/gray backgrounds (such as the dialer and settings screens) and in low light - such as in the dark - I noticed it when i play around with it in watching TV in bed. I cleaned the display thoroughly to rule out dirt and oil, and I also noticed the marks don't show up in screenshots. My wife has a Verizon Moto X, and she doesn't have the streaks, but I did notice a few dark dots/spots that appear in similar situations.
I called Motorola, and even though I unlocked the bootloader, they will give me an RMA and evaluate the phone, but I'd have to ship it and then wait 7-10 business days to get it back. I was hoping they might say they'd just exchange it so it'd be a quicker process.
Is anyone else noticing something like this, or notice it now that I've pointed it out (sorry!)? Since I dropped close to $700 on this phone, it should be perfect, so it's hard to "unsee" it now even if it is borderline (or flat-out) nitpicking. But it doesn't affect functionality or even viewing in normal lighting, it doesn't show up on any other colored screens, and I really don't want to have to send my phone away and be without it for probably 3 weeks minimum. I've never had an issue with any phones or devices before where I've had to send them back for warranty repair or evaluation. Anyone have any advice or thoughts on this? Is it worth my time? Thanks!

In case anyone cares, after talking with them again, Motorola is letting me straight-up return the phone (even with unlocked bootloader). Then I'm just going to turn around and buy another new one - or perhaps even save a few hundos and get a gently used AT&T or T-mobile version (I like this phone so much as-is that I feel like I don't even need the unlockable bootloader). Why it can't just be an outright exchange where I send them this phone and then they ship me out another, I have no idea. At least the marks will be gone after going through this trouble..

Yes! I have them as well. I didn't even know how to describe them until I saw your post. White AT&T model. I filed a warranty claim through AT&T and they are sending me out a replacement. I thought about just letting it go since they are basically not visible unless it's a gray type background but just knowing they are there erks me to no end.

Yeah seriously, I couldn't stand seeing them anymore, and this morning was prepared to ship my phone away for 3 weeks to have it repaired. I'm glad they're just letting me return it. It feels tainted to me and I want a perfect one, especially for full retail price. Glad to know I'm not alone.
If anyone else is looking for them (again, sorry in advance), they're easily visible in the background of Titanium Backup and "Notification Toggles" app by j4velin. Also can see them in between stuff on the dialer and anywhere in the settings.

Oh for sure, Basically 700 bucks for a phone with tax it better be perfect. I don't blame you at all. Just curious, did you try a factory restore? I am almost certain it's a hardware defect but I thought about trying that.
Thanks

Yes, I ruled that out too. Flashed back to stock everything using the images in the FXZ but the marks are still there. It almost looks like the glass itself is stained or something where these "streaks" appear. No idea.

Anyone else RMA for a yellow tint and uneven color?

The bottom of my screen is more yellow than the top so I'm having Moto RMA it. I was just wondering if anyone else had a similar issue. If I wasn't so freak'n picky I'd probably ignore it, but I use landscape a lot and I see it most on the keyboard when in landscape.
Did you ever get your replacement? I have uneven color issues as well, though I'm not sure if its worth the trouble of trying to exchange it.

Curious as well. I'm thinking of re-purchasing now because I think some of the RMA replacement stock was bad batches (at least that's my hope) and the newer ones will have the screen issues sorted.
GOOD LUCK!!! My screen died (just went blank) over a week ago and I still do not have a new device. Moto's RMA and customer service has been the worst ever! I have been told "its shipping tomorrow" for a week now and still no device. The last rep I spoke with said they just do not have replacement devices to ship. I would advise you to keep the yellow screen until Moto has enough stock to ship devices.

I don't currently have one, as I returned the 3rd one I had (1st - bad vibration motor, 2nd/3rd bad uneven color tinting). So I'd have to order anew :/ Guess I should just wait until next year when they've got more stock and fix the screen issues.

It's crazy. This is the first of about 20 android devices I have had that I have not done anything to. I had not even unlocked the bootloader yet and the screen craps out. I understand that stuff like this happens but the whole customer service part has been just awful. I was offered a refund but Moto said that would take 4 weeks??? How do you launch a device and not hold back some stock for warranty issues is beyond me? Thankfully I have a M8 GPE to hold me over.

I think google definitely held back stock for RMAs, as I had no issues getting a 1st and 2nd RMA (for a total of 2 devices after my initial purchase). The problem is they were all manufactured on 10/21 or earlier and had issues so while they had stock to replace them, but were replacing with questionable quality I guess?
I just spoke with customer service last night for RMA. My screen basically looks like a gradient from top left to bottom right. It goes from yellow into pinkish, they basically stated that the devices they are sending out are not technically new or refurbished (at this point). I'm assuming customer returns or defects with packaging. They basically are sending me one, placing a $500 hold and then releasing the hold once they receive my defective unit.

Curious to see how you make out with this. I am still waiting for my RMA'd device since 12/8. Spoke with someone at Moto this morning and they are shipping it today. I have heard that before and I will believe it when I see it. Still no shipping email as of 3:20 eastern time..... Their customer service has been horrible. Hope you have better luck. Keep us posted.
I decided to give it another shot today and ordered a new 32GB CW, hoping I was just unlucky with the 2/3 MB I had that had the pink vs. yellow non-uniform tinting. I know there's no data that indicates the color has anything to do with it, but I'm a superstitious type and hope ordering the white winds up with me getting a good screen haha

GPS. I already refunded my MB purchase and that and the two (attempted) RMAs show as cancelled on Google Wallet.
FYI, the replacements I got had "earlyish" manufacturing dates, so if the bad screens are a function of the date manufactured, RMA'ing now for this may not be a good idea (at least in my experience for the MB one, no idea about CW).

I guess that's one advantage to GPS. My 1st and 2nd RMA were shipped immediately, in one case the same day and I had the replacement the next day.
Well they sent me an ATT phone instead of t-mobile.. BUT the att doesnt have the issue. I'm hoping the correct device I get tomorrow will also be good.
Well my card was charged for $557 so I assume that they will be prompt in sending one out. It's not that big of a deal if it doesn't come in a hurry as long as one gets here without defects. I don't have to send in the defective one until my replacement gets here anyway.
I also have the uneven tint issue. I have been debating about a replacement. Not sure what to do.

Agreed. I plan on keeping my phone for 2-3 years, so I need to make sure I'm completely happy with it. I just called Google to ask about having mine replaced. They said they're sending out a brand new unit, so we'll see how that one looks. I'll report back when I have it in hand.
My replacement came today. Its looks great. While my last phone had a little pink when at lowest brightness. This one has NONE.

Nexus 6 Screen Burn

This is my first AMOLED device, and probably my last. I got my nexus 6 a few weeks ago and have been using it moderately. Screen brightness never went above 50%. I already have a very noticeable burn on the bottom bar. Unfortunately have no warranty so I cant return it. Very disappointed. Didnt expect to find such a problem on such a great device. Is there a way to fix it? How bad can this get in the future? I would appreciate someone with such an experience to give me some advice.
If you don't mind and still have warranty, send it to Motorola.
What I got was just like new in a retail box.
I described my experience including video at the end of the page here

I noticed it the first time I looked (with gray screen) which was after I had the phone about a month. I've now had the phone 6+ months and situation is the same...Only noticeable when I look carefully with the right background. So my concern level now is much less than when I first noticed it.
I don't bother with the app you set up to age/burn your nav bar at full brightness for awhile to even things out. I do occasionally run chrome inverted in order to give a crude dark theme (good for battery) which has the extra benefit of aging/burning the nav bar area that doesn't usually age...helps to even things out

I dont have warranty so thats out of the option, but if changing the screen is affordable I might consider that on a later date.

Well as long as the current quality doesnt deteriorate, I could live with it. But considering the amount of burn in just one month, Im skeptical about it in the long run.

I have had my device for over a year and no burn in whats so ever. Not even a little bit. Makes me wonder what your moderate use is.
So the device is used, if you've got no warranty?
@JonesL: He likely did buy used. The warranty only applies to the original purchaser, thus no warranty.

They didn't require me any proof for the replacement.
Now Motorola is a part of Lenovo, so not sure.
I'm sure. The fact Motorola is owned by Lenovo is just as irrelevant now as when they were owned by Google. The piece of paper that spells out the warranty terms and conditions is what applies here, and that warranty does not transfer with the device when the device is sold to a second user by the first. If they processed a replacement for you, that was kind of them.
I bought mine new the month it came out and mine has burn also.. I have the 6p,note5,v10, but I swap out this phone for the 6p every now and then.. Point being it's not used much and still has burn in
All amoled screens should be used wisely, because over time the parties held most heated they become prone to yellow, while the share held duller, like the navbar and statusbar, will stay with the most "cool colors".
The solution is simple: use the EXTENDED DESKTOP mode SINCE THE FIRST DAY (present in almost all the custom rom).
In this way, in the time, the display deteriorates evenly , and no one pays attention!
Maybe after one year or two we have to change a bit the colors and make them cooler.
sad to say but i also have the burn in now.. got my shamu last october and its noticeable when you flash a rom and during initial set up where whites are pretty present and the gray part on the nav bar and status bar is so obvious with some hints on the clock, wifi symbols and signal and on the navbar some back home and recents button shadows present... too bad..
Now it is too late .... But if it is still under warranty should replace you display...
If with new display follow the advice since day one, you never have a problem!
Sorry for my english.....
