Has anyone been able to successfully activate the LTE version of the GW3 on the sprin - Samsung Galaxy Watch 3

Since today is officially launch of the GW3 I figured I'd be able to activate it for voice calls/texts and LTE data until I received this message when trying to activate mobile data on the watch itself. View attachment 5083557

I am from Australia. I got mine yesterday and activated the LTE without any problem.

What carrier?
I'm with Optus, and the wearable app keeps telling me that Optus doesn't have a plan for this watch.
However, my old Galaxy Watch can connect with number share, no sweat.
Optus network team currently looking into it, as there's been a couple of customers with the same issue as me.

Same, Optus post paid.
During set-up, it tried to connect to my number share, but just claims Optus doesn't support the watch.
Will try again this evening, but seems to be a few customers with my issue.

How old is your plan? I had to change my plan when I got my S20 Ultra 5G to enable 5G. Also, my S20 Ultra is configured as e-sim. Just letting you know.

Thanks.
I just traded up my Note10+ 5G to a new plan for Note20 Ultra 5G, same day as I bought the watch3.
My Note20 Ultra 5G is also using e-sim.

Yes, I agree.
The network team haven't solved it yet.
I guess I'll keep using my galaxy watch until they sort it out.
The watch3 is fine otherwise.

finally got the gw3 in today and within minutes with tmobile twitter help, i got it set up and running. all they need is the 32 digit esim.

Mine is stuck in standalone mode. I think I've tried everything I could think of

If my operater enable eSIm function. Do I need new subscription or I just order second SIM (eSIM) and connect GW3 and use data plan as I have on my phone (same subscription)?
thank you

Just out of curiosity, if you jump into the wearable app, and choose "Find my watch" and then select "Get location", does it show your address or close to your location?
Mine is telling me my watch is in Green Valley Dr, Cupertino, CA, USA.
The Optus tech/network people called me today, to try a few things, but no go.
And they are scratching there heads, and as noted before, seems there's a few customers with the same issue.

"Get Location" is close to my home address only. I don't have Location enabled in my watch except for activities. But it is connected to the phone with Bluetooth. I know from Galaxy Watch, it uses the phones location when it cannot lock to the watch GPS.

Mine is finally showing correct location information now, no more Cupertino, USA.
But still no number share love and haven't heard back from Optus since last week.
Can I ask you, if you open the dialer on the watch, and enter: *#1234#
What does it say in the CSC field?

Edit: Mine shows R845FOLB1BTG7
I would have expected the "OLB" to be OXM.

Is there anything wrong with CSC? Why you need CSC when you bought from Samsung? Did you tried resetting the watch?

I just received mine today from best buy. Unlocked version and I have not had a watch on my sprint plan before. I activated the watch and the plan via the wearable app in under 7 minutes with no issues. I did verify the plan after 1 hour ( it is Sprint. Always verify) and no issues at all with my plan as it was listed.

Nothing wrong, since you have the same.
I was just looking around while waiting for Optus to get back to me, regarding why the Watch3 cannot find or connect to Number share, while my Galaxy Watch can.
I've reset the watch so many damn times, uninstalled the wearable app and watch3 plugin many times as well, and it still won't connect.
The Optus network team got back to me a short time ago, asking me to try again, after they made some changes in the "back end", but still no joy.
Pretty much over it now.

[Q] Root, Unlocked Bootloaders and AT&T/T-Mobile

Okay, so I just bought an S6 (coming from a S3) from AT&T. I came on here, like I did with my S3 years ago, to see the status on Root. From what I'm reading, it seems like the consensus is that AT&T phones won't be getting root or unlocked bootloaders?
My main questions is, if I return this phone(I bought it outright), and go buy it from T-Mobile, will it basically be the same as I have now but with unlocked bootloader and root? Are there any disadvantages to doing it this way? (e.g. No LTE, etc)
Thanks!
It's the same phone but good luck getting it unlocked. Even if you pay in full for it it's a pain. The only thing that may not work is VoLTE.

Buy the unlocked version. SM-G920I. You can find it on eBay, thepowersellers.com, and a couple other places. Works perfect on AT&T, LTE and all. Unlocked bootloader, no bloat, faster updates, no AT&T bs.

Not sure how to test. My wife has an iPhone 6. Can I test with a call to her or does the iPhone 6 not support it.

So this isn't scientific, but I called someone with an iPhone 5, which doesn't have HD Voice / VoLTE, and it sounded like a typical phone call. Then I called someone with an iPhone 6, which does have HD Voice, and it sounded much clearer to me. She said I didn't sound any different than usual, but she doesn't notice the difference between an SD and HD TV either. So I think it's working, but I don't know how to confirm 100%.

Thanks for checking. To confirm if it's working or not, just look at the data icon in the status bar during a call. If it drops down the 4G/H+ then the call is not VoLTE. If the data icon stays on LTE during the call, then VoLTE is active.

Nope, drops to H+ so I guess VoLTE isn't working at the moment, but I wonder if it just requires an APN change or something trivial. Anyone have an AT&T model that they can screenshot all of the APN settings on?
Even if I can't get VoLTE working, calls already sound great, much better than my Nexus 5, so it isn't a huge deal.

I'm in the exact same boat as you... Biggest problem I can see is that I can only find the Black SM-G920I in 32gb...
I would be interested to see how rooting goes. I believe it took the community raising $20,000 to the first person able to root the S5. It took a long time but somebody finally did it. But if you root, news today said you will NEVER be able to use Samsung Pay. Not really a game changer for some people. But for me, I use Google Wallet from time to time, but I plan to fully convert to mobile payments with Samsung Pay.
I'll start it off with $20 for bootloader unlock on the AT&T S6

Agree. That capability far outweighs any reason to root. Wish they would hurry up about it.
I do remember, however, that Samsung tried this trick with Soft Card, but all it took to use it with root was someone making an Xposed script that masked root status from that app.

NFC, Android Pay, LTE

So i've searched the forum and got an impression this might work.
I have owned AW for 2 years on my Sony SmartWatch 3, it has NFC but AW never activated AP on AW til AW2. I just today ordered a used Urbane2 which is due to get AW2, and based on the AP on AW explanation implies that AP will work on the Urbane when it gets AW2 - right?
http://www.androidpolice.com/2017/0...ndroid-wear-is-here-and-this-is-how-it-works/
So literally once we get AW2 on Urbane we'll get AP?

When the Android Team announced the upcoming 2.0 release on reddit, the AW team member stated in the comments NFC enabled devices, including the Sport and Urbane 2nd Edition, would be able to use Android Pay.

Not sure really. Maybe not as many users? A result of the recall in November 2015 of the original release? Who knows. I've had mine since the original release, two days before the recall, and still wear it daily. For my purposes, it's still the best option available for AW.
I didn't know there was a recall! I just picked mine up. Looking into it.

The original release in November 2015 was recalled. It was re-released in March/April of 2016.
It sold briefly for $299 new in November 2015 before the recall then it was released again 2016 for $360 new. That's the AT&T version pricing.
Is there a way to know if you have the recall version or the new hardware version?

Hmmm I'd have to research about the serial number. They didn't sell very many originally since it was only on sale for a few days so my guess is it's the new version. I haven't had any issues with the original version.
given its 18 months later, the LG Watch Sport looks disappointing specs upgrade, seems a downgrade in battery size (why?) and yet still a big warch and only really chipset improved, given current prices the Urbane2 is about half the price for similar specs. You then have puzzle of the Huawei Watch 2 even higher price for lower specs.
Interest moment coming when AW2 out and then see if AP works. I have rooted phone, AP works (magisk) on phone but the word is not on AW.

If I had to replace my watch for any reason currently, I'd get the U2 again. Other than the rotating crown, the Sport doesn't offer much more for twice the price. Also, for my specific use, there isn't another watch that can provide the same functions. I like being able to forward calls to the watch and leave the phone behind during GPS recorded runs. I was also able to do this while visiting family in France because the U2 includes the 2100 band, the Sport does not. I know that's a rare need, but it was nice to have. My Truphone SIM is global so it worked with no problems.

Yeah there are a lot of inaccuracies out there. The watch does support B1 2100 band. It definitely worked in France. Select 'specifications' at the top of this site. They don't mention B1, probably because it isn't an AT&T band, but they show support for 2100.

T-Mobile does work with their phone SIM. Some have tried their wearable SIM with little success because they won't allow a non T mobile device on the wearable plan. I originally tried H2O and Ting but couldn't get data to work and there isn't a way to adjust the APN settings. I eventually found Truphone. They are a global SIM that uses AT&T network here in the US. It's 10 cents per minute/SMS/mb with free incoming calls/texts. It's perfect for my use, but if you end up using a lot of data it could add up quickly.

Good to know. I have ATT and T-mobile SIMs in my OnePlus3T, I was going to try both in the Urbane2 and find out the actual coverage, and then decide what to do next. I was with Straighttalk before ATT, and around here ATT tends to be better coverage than T-mobile. So if Truphone is a ATT based, usage-based for the odd time not with your mobile that might be (agreed) perfect complement. The 9c/MB is the worrying part because its free for incoming and in the context of AW its going to be incoming mostly. Notifications over LTE would add up to a few MB? What is your AW Truphone MB/month type usage off you Truphone bill?

It does receive LTE and actually it's 9 cents per minute/sms/mb with free incoming calls/texts. They are not sold in the store as far as I know. I ordered the SIM online. It was $30 and included $15 of credit. I only activate LTE when I'm running a few times a week. I average about 1MB of data per run so it's costing me $1-$2 dollars a month. FYI, when AW 2.0 arrives it could allow for more data usage if you stream music or download apps away from the phone. I play music from the watch through bluetooth headphones so I don't plan on streaming or downloading apps on LTE.

SM-N950F Slow Network Speeds On AT&T

Hey there fellas! I recently purchased an international Galaxy Note 8 to use on AT&T here in the U.S. Everything appears to work fine except the speed of my network. Normally in this area I would be getting LTE speeds around 30-40 up and down. With the Note 8 is displays H+ (which I understand to be LTE, but I may be wrong) and I get around 5-7 down and often less than 1mbps up. Some have suggested setting the preferred network time to LTE/UMTS auto (PRL) which was already selected on my device. Is there anything else I can do to get the proper speeds? Thanks!

On all of my international versions H+ was 3G and 4G was LTE. Depending on the area with 4G I would get 20 - 50 megs down on AT&T. On my 950U1 my settings under #*#*4636*#*# I have TD-SCDMA/CDMA/UMTS selected by default and mine shows LTE and depending on the area up to 100 megs down.
H+ is 3G, or 3.5G for some carriers

Ah, that would explain why my speeds are so slow. Thank you for clearing that up. I attempted to select TD-SCDMA/CDMA/UMTS as my preferred network mode but for whatever reason it will not apply. When I reopen that settings menu it goes back to whatever option was selected prior to that. Do you think it could have something to do with the selected APN? I have ATT Phone as my current APN, but at the store they were trying to use ATT Nextgenphone, which didn't work.

I would do all I could to get the Nextgenphone APN working. It is what I used on all my international phones.
Took the Note 8 into the AT&T store today and swapped out the sim card without any luck. As usual they couldn't provide any help beyond that. I also I can't select TD-SCDMA/CDMA/UMTS as my preferred network type for some reason. I contacted the person I bought the phone from and they claimed they used it on Verizon's LTE network without an issue. Very strange.

I may be totally off here, but wouldn't that be an issue as the AT&T variant uses a Snapdragon SoC, while my device uses Exynos? Another concern for me would the ability to root as well, which is one of the reasons I decided not to buy an AT&T branded phone. Thanks for your help so far man, I appreciate it!

You are right. There is no AT&T firmware for your phone. Unless they changed something with the Note8 you should still be able to get 4G. I did with my international Note4, Note5, and Xperia Z5 Premium models. My son is using the Note5 with an Exynos processor and gets 4G speeds comparable to LTE speeds in the area.
Had this problem as well way back when I first got my 950F.
There are solutions. But you would need one of 2 things.
1. Get At&t to add your IMEI# TO their database so that they can provision your phone correctly.
2. Get another At&t branded phone's IMEI# that is LTE COMPATIBLE. and call them to provision you phone with that #.
My phone is getting full LTE speeds and VOLTE.
But I had them put in the IMEI# of my older Note 5!( which my wife is currently using)...
Hope this helps.

Thanks for the reply. I called ATT and gave them your suggestion and they claimed that it would not work. They said provisioning my new phone with an IMEI of a different phone would be temporary up to 2-3 weeks. Have you encountered this issue? I'm assuming not, so I'm curious as to how long you've had this fixed. Thanks again man

^^ this. ATT LTE won't work unless the IMEI is provisioned .

N950N Olympics Edition on UK carriers

Is anyone using this phone on a UK carrier without any mods at all?
This is the KT branded/unlocked version gifted to athletes.
I don’t care about WiFi calling, just wondering if it will work well on any UK carrier without my having to do anything to it.
Thanks....

It should be fine if the basebands match.
Find the baseband of the network you want to use, (so for 3g I need baseband 2100 and for 4g I need 900)
In the link below you can then compare it to your model (I will assume its the same as the U version despite the KT)
If the baseband matches for 3g you will only get 3g or visa versa. Hopefully they will match for both 3 and 4g.

On paper, this phone has all the necessary bands to work on TMobile USA but a test at one of their stores with an active SIM didn't have good results. Although the phone displayed LTE, outgoing calls took between 40 and 60 seconds to initiate dialing out, and SMS texts would not go out at all (or if they went out, they didn't arrive at destination phone).
I travel frequently to the UK so I was just hoping that this phone would work out of the box with a UK SIM with no need for mods....
How did you get this phone? I want one so bad.. the colors are so cool

I acquired it directly from an athlete.
I hope to make it work. If not, It may soon be available... (I hope it’s not against the rules to say that).
Seeing as the N950N is GSM device, you should have no issues using it with any UK cell provider.

Thanks, that would be my hope, though it didn’t bear out for TMobile USA, which is also a GSM network.

You would need to contact T-Mobile or visit their retail branch and have them add your devices IMEI# on their network. For some strange reason some networks require that...
It should work in the UK no problem. Go-to thr Samsung website and it shows all the bands for your specific model (950N) and cross reference it with the ones used in the UK. I think you'll find it's all there. No need to over think it.

Thanks. For some reason, although Tmobile USA has all of the required bands, this phone will not work properly on their network without mods.
The purpose of this thread was to hopefully get confirmation from anyone who is actually using an N950N on a UK network without mods.

I am using the same Olympic Edition phone in the UK no problem at all. I had to reset my network in order to get LTE working though. I was actually thinking of selling mine, but I decided to keep it and I absolutely love it and sold my iPhone instead!

Thank you, that is good to know. Which UK carrier are you using? I have a Vodafone UK sim, but if it doesn't work on that, I'll get a different one.
And what do you mean exactly by "I had to reset my network".... ?

I'm on EE but I haven't tried any other carrier, but I'm sure it would work the same.
What I meant by reset my network, go to settings - general management - reset - reset network settings and then I just reset my network that way and I got the LTE working that way. Let me know if this works for you on Vodafone

Is it working ok for you? Also I have a question, what software version are you on? I'm on the Oreo update but still on the April patch? I am trying to see if anyone has a newer software patch that they have got. I find it strange that I haven't had any updates in 3 months.
Hi. I arrived in London on Sat 7/21... phone would only receive 2G (phone displayed E) and occasionally 3G. I stopped by Vodafone shop and they confirmed all settings were correct. I went across the street to EE and tried one of their sims, strong 3G but nothing better. As I was going to Cardiff for a few days, I used the Microsoft 950XL that I have which receives 4G and better (often displays 4G+).
Not sure what the next step is...
Regarding updates, the last one I got installed Oreo 8.0.0 and Samsung Experience 9.0 on May 24, 2018. Last security patch date is April 1, 2018.

Have you tried the reset network with the Sim in now you are in the UK? That sounds like what happened to me, would only get 3g until I would reset the network with the Sim in. I once tried to put in another Sim and when I put my EE Sim back in I had to reset the network again. I'm even in Germany now for the past week and I get LTE here as well.
Ok thanks, we are on the same security patch. But I would think that we would get updates that are newer than that. On Reddit people are already talking about getting thier July updates, while we are still on the April update.

Wi-Fi Calling UK CPW

Hi guys,
I'm trying to find the setting for turning on wifi calling.
I've spoken to the network and they say they've activated it but I'm having no joy.
Any ideas? Phone is unlocked from carphone warehouse.
Thanks in advance
firstly, what network you on? be more specific! lol

I'm on Sky Mobile.
I don't think the network matters in this case because the setting is not on the phone. It has been activated by the network.

Ah that's why. Phones from CPW and other non Samsung sellers have the XEU firmware. That firmware only supports the WiFi calling and VOLTE for the main networks EE, Voda, Three, O2. And this is a recent update. Same goes for Samsung BTU firmware. Some MVNOs like BT Mobile work fine as they own EE and use their settings. Looking at Google sky do not support the note 9 for WiFi calling.

This is from sky. Just looks like they've not added note 9 yet.
Currently available on the following Sky Mobile devices:
Samsung Galaxy S8, S8+, S9 and S9+.Sony Xperia XZ1, XZ2 and XA2.Keep a look out for more compatible devices coming soon.

BTU, or any UK one. Not sure you'd get the extra features unless sky activate it themselves. Many companies who piggy back off one of the main carriers don't have WiFi calling /volte

Hmmm it is hit or miss as the BTU/XEU seems to have only the main networks I think.

This is why I only go with main networks now. Flash anything and I seem to have features. The other smaller piggyback companies have some good deals. But no extra features.
Virgin mobile... £20 a month unlimited calls and texts with 100gb data! No wifi/volte. My boy has it now lol

Was a retention deal and I still pay the same and I am now on a rolling 30 day contract. There was a time last year when all the networks had a gigabyte war! Now they not so generous. I would prefer to go back to EE as three aren't the best network for reception and they have no 4G roaming yet but hey ho. I'm a slut!!!!!
