Build. prop System/Vendor

Are you guys able to edit the build.prop file? I can't get my System Folder to mount as R/W no matter what I try.
Please tell me how you've changed the permissions for the System folder, if you have.

[Q] in-depth explanation of files in rom.zip

hey guys.. i been looking around everywhere to try and get a good explanation of the files inside the rom.zip... like what the files are in the META-INF? and what are all the files inside the system folder? how do i know what to change and what not to change.. lol sorry but if anyone could possibly give me a more in depth explanation i would appreciate it greatly!!!
i dont have answer but i would also like to know this... since im just trying to learn how be a dev...
lol seems no one can help us... but this did help a little... http://forum.androidcentral.com/hacking/6037-general-rom-faq.html
Hi
The files in META-INF are just that, meta files they contain information about the files that are part of the rom.. specifically CERT.* and MANIFEST.MF contain the SHA1 hash of each file in the rom when you flash the rom your recovery environment hashes each file and checks it against the manifest. These files are created during the signing process.
META-INF/com/google/android/updater-script tells the recovery environment what to actually do. such as format /system then extract system to /system on the phone, set permissions for each file and the correct kernel to your boot.img then reflash it
the files in /system are the actual operating system and are in a UNIX-ish layout
executable's in bin & xbin, system apks in app, configuration files in etc, libraries in lib, ringtones and bootanim in media

Hey guys, new to the whole XDA thing. Recently I just rooted my nexus 6 and tried to change my Lock/Unlock sounds but even after I changed the audio file to .ogg and set the permissions to rw-r--r-- I still cant copy my new lock/unlock sounds to the UI folder .
When I try to copy it I get this message:
Copy Failed
Unlock.ogg to/system/media/audio/ui

1)mount /system partition as R/W. by default its R/O.
2)copy your file
3)change permission to rw-r--r--
4)reboot
and you are good to go
[if you cant mount system partition as R/W then flash custom kernel and try]

I mount as R/W and when I try to copy the file it still gives me the error code?
(Permissions and R/W are good to go I just can't copy it) ?

sounds like you dont have full root. one way to check is by editing your build.prop file then rebooting. if the edit stays, you have full root. if your edit stays the same, then you dont have full root.
Do you have free space on /system? If not, that would be the reason. The N6 /system partition is almost full, so you may have to remove apps in /system/app or /system/priv-app to free up some space, then try copying.

It's possible, that since the sounds are used by the system that their actually in use.
Have you tried mounting system in recovery and doing it there?
Sent from my Nexus 6

How to edit build.prop on Android 10 Q ? Mi 9 Lite

Hi. i could edit build.prop without root before, when Mi 9 Lite using Android 9 rom: Open Twrp - Mount system - pull build.prop and edit - push build.prop to system again and set permission 644 OK
But Mi 9 Lite got Android 10 Beta, so this way doesnt work anymore... i can pull build.prop but cant push it or rewrite to the system. i saw some files named prop.default and default.prop , these files were the same as build.prop. are they something like recovery for build.prop ? should i change these files too ?
any idea ?

android 11 root problem miui 12.5

hi.I rooted the phone using magisk, it was installed and apparently rooted, but I have a problem with root file programs like root explorer or es file manager. The problem is that the rw mount does not work or I even have trouble installing busybox.
my phone : redmi note 10 pro
miui version : 12.5.8 and 12.5.9
android version : 11
magiak version : 23
I don't know deeply this case, but it was told that mounting r/w is not possible in recent Androids for system partitions.
However this is Magisk benefit that you put your files to it's tree and Magisk overmounts original files, I guess it does it using option "mount --bind".
You put file into /data/adb/modules/<module_name>/system/etc/<exemplary file> and after reboot you see it under /system/etc/.
At least the above path was checked personally by me by changing /system/etc/gps_psds.conf file to my own.

I want to install a program as a system, but it is not possible without rw mount, do you know the solution?
I presume you have at least one Magisk module installed.
Put it into /data/adb/modules/<any_Magisk_module_name>/PATH_WHERE_YOU_WANT_TO_HAVE_IT/.
If wanted directories don't exist - create them.
Reboot.
Check.
Maybe tune permissions to make file executable.
Report result here.

I have no problem installing the module. My problem is accessing the system / app folder and making changes.
What changes do you want to perform?
Change one or more of files there, right?
If so - I repeat.
Put your modified file(s) under /data/adb/modules/<any_installed_Magisk_module_name>/system/app/ and reboot.

I do not want to install the module, I want to move an apk file to the system/app folder that is installed as a system and can not be deleted
I wasted my time.
Good luck.
I devoted a while to check that I was right suggesting what I suggested.

Question How i can edit build.prop and other files in system folder?

Hello.
Successfully rooted note 10s, but if i try to edit build.prop file in system or vendor folder, i take a zero length file...
How it can be edited?
1. use a decent file manager (i reccomend Material Files)
2. you need to remove some useless stuff, or else it won't save
Try X-plore. Just set to show hidden files.
i use root browser
work for me root browser
