Pixel 5 Price - Google Pixel 5 Questions & Answers

I am really hoping Google would get the price right for the Pixel 5. It was leaked that the price of the Pixel 5g phones was starting at $500 that is of Pixel 4A 5G or Pixel 5.
The OnePlus Nord is having the same chipset Snapdragon 765G and similar specs priced at $400. They both have Amoled display, 90Hz refresh rate, Snapdragon 765G, 128GB 8GB Ram, 4000mAh battery.
I think Pixel 5 can cut down the cost since it is the smaller phone than Pixel 4A 5G. It is using the mid level SOC chipset Snapdragon 765G and only one variant 128GB 8GB one so it can greatly reduce its price.
Some extra features that it includes are wireless charging and ip68 rating which I find useless, wished they would have cut down on cost but some may like it. Pixel 5 is using the same sensor its been using since Pixel 2 for main camera but it also includes an ultrawide camera for first time which is a game changer. I would really like a Pixel phone for the Camera and software experience.
So the estimated price may be upto $550-$600. But I am really hoping that the Pixel 5 releases at $500.

I'd anticipate a high price for at least one of them..coupled with the 865+
The 500 mark would be reserved for their mid range device.
They can get away with the prices because it's Google and it has the pixel name..plus the camera will be decent Vs other brands, although that gap has been severely reduced.
Have to say owning the 1+8 pro, the ultra wide camera is excellent, the amount of times it comes in handy Vs anyone's device I'm in the company of..
Play it safe and don't expect too much from a company who have raised the price year on year, it's business, they can't stop now, would Apple?
Crap but unfortunately true..

Looks like the Pixel 5 is coming in at EUR 629 in Germany. Different estimates translate that into USD 649-699 for the US.
Germany's VAT is temporarily lowered, so EUR prices elsewhere in EU may be slightly higher.

Confirmed $649. Not bad!

It wont be launched in India. Anyway to get it ?

The OnePlus Nord isn't slated to come to the US, so the pricing isn't a fair comparison in my opinion. If they were to sell it here, it'd cost more. We'll just have to wait and see where that initial price point is. There's value in the camera, software updates, wireless charging, IP68, etc to a lot of folks. I'm perfectly happy with a 765G chipset. I know this because I'm perfectly happy with the performance of the 835 that rests in my aging Pixel 2. I'd rather have the battery life, personally.

629€ is more then I wanted to pay for this phone. I'm thinking to go with the 4a,but I'm not sure either.
I own a decent Nokia 9,but the hanging Camera is a pain. So this time I wanted to go for a pixel. Sadly, the 5 isn't clearly that much better then the 4/4a in my opinion.
629€ for an top CPU would be OK, but in this case... I'm not sure what to do

629 Euros is £576. Whilst we do tend to get ripped off over here on exchange rates, I would be okay with paying £599.

I do believe that $699 USD is confirmed by some very trusted sources. Slightly higher than I wanted to pay which only means I will now sell my P4 orange (mint) rather than gifting it to my wife. She loves her P3 anyway and would not be happy with face unlock with mask requirements. I'm looking forward to getting rid of that as well. After the sale I'll probably be out around 2 bills but the battery will make up for that imo.

While $650 or 650€ seems like a lot to pay for a phone with the same base specs as the Oneplus Nord, remember that the Pixel 5 (along with the 4a 5G which probably slots in at $500) is likely to be the only Android phone with a CLEAN fully capable RAW ultrawide camera. For me this is easily worth an additional $100 or so, and the IP rating and wireless charging make up the rest of the difference for me. Sure, I would rather pay $500 for a Pixel 4a 5G with 8GB of RAM, but as things stand (especially with the likely delay of the 4a 5G) I'm willing to pony up for the Pixel 5 at launch. I just hope they don't screw anything up, like putting in a dimmer display than the 4a has...

Lol no. 4a 5G at $499 is good, pixel 5 should be $599 maximum. If all the leaks are true it does not warrant a $699 price tag considering it’s using the S765G. And where did you hear the raw fully clean ultra wide? And how is that worth an extra $100? Phones like the S20 FE and the oneplus 8T are both gonna be $699 while offering more. Remember that Google is taking away the telephoto. Not worth $699

Lol yes. As stated above: FOR ME, a clean ultrawide implementation with full RAW support is easily worth $100 extra. I find it funny that you feel you can refute that . And the clean implementation is an assumption, by the way - based on the fact that Google is one of the few companies that enabled RAW with no fuss at all on the Pixel 4 telephoto camera. I'm hoping the Ultrawide will be similarly stress-free.
The S20 FE is crippled in weird ways (display brightness, RAM, the usual restriction to RAW only on the main camera) and the 8T is likely to be 799€ at launch - and it's a Oneplus, so a meh track record for support.
I agree that the Pixel is overpriced for the platform. I just don't care enough not to buy it because the alternatives all have their own problems.

Everyone got their own reason to ditch a certain brand or Phone series. For me: I had several OnePlus phones (early days) and they all lacked of something. Either LTE was bad GPS did not work properly Cam was dieing. On top was the Data Collection "topic" they tried to hide from the user. Since then they are dead to me. I went for an Android One after that. HTC something.. Everything was working but the phone was low end so I switched to Nokia 9.
The Camera and the Finger Print is both horrible. Now I want to give the Pixel a try.
I will watch the release today maybe I'll go directly for it or later this year.

iPhone? I thought you had the OnePlus 8. lol But $599 will be the price if you wait until BF and then maybe even less. If they put this out at $599 on launch then there would be none to sell after about 5 minutes. $649 would be the right price for launch but I will still buy it at $699. You would never buy one, right? See, I have a P4 I can sell at about $400 so 3 hundred is no biggie for me given the larger battery and aluminum back in green.

Uh I have several phones [emoji23]
That’s not the point, the launch price should be $599 considering the specs. Did you really say “If they put this out at $599on launch then there would be none to sell after about 5 minutes”??? That’s the point, to sell not just to keep it on shelves [emoji1751]
After Black Friday it goes back to $699 which isn’t priced right when you look at the competition. That’s why the pixel 4 failed miserably, because it wasn’t priced properly and the competition offered better at less.

Agreed, that is the point. But their people never called my people for this advice and so here we are. Thing is I'd by two today if they come out at $599 and treat the Mrs. and sell her aging P3. For $699 I can't justify it and neither will she.

Depending on where you are located you could get an awesome freebie. I have seen 6 months of Netflix for Canada. Bose QC II for France I think. Maybe the price includes a freebie.

Well 657,-€ in Germany... Nope for now
Edit: just seen, this is a temporary price. Let's check in a few days

Same here! I have saved so much money during the pandemic by not going to the local brewery, let alone happy hours once a week, that I could probably buy two of them and still be ahead. So expected delivery is November 3rd. I just need to keep my P4 pristine and get around $350 - $400 on Swappa. The P4 trade-in at $240 was a joke.

What are your choices for upgrading from note 4?

I decided the note 7 wasn't for me. Thankfully. I would have hated to end up with an exploding one (my luck).
So my family all got iPhone 7 plus(es) and now of course I have the itch for a new phone also... With 2 payments left on my note 4 (about $60)...they're worth about $200 so I'll probably just keep my note 4 perhaps as a remote control if nothing else.
Now the question to all of you, what are viable replacements?
The Pixel Xl didn't impress me with the exception of unlimited full res Google photos.
The LG v20 looks nice, but not sure about the IPS lcd screen - no amoled? Really?
I wouldn't consider a s7/edge since it's successor is just a few months out at this point.
What other phones are worth considering? Or why would the LG v20 be a logical choice?
Let the discussion begin.

Go for s7 edge or nexus 6p the best tiĺl now in my opinion.
I'm in the same boat. I really want the Phab 2 Pro, but that processor...... Gimme that phone with the sd820 or better and I'm all smiles. I'll likely end up with one of the funky Chinese phones if the LTE bands match up. They're actually putting together decent stuff at a decent price. Or, the v20 if the pre-order extras are good
There is NO upgrade for the Note4. If it doesn't have Amoled, SPen, removable batery / Micro SD, and touchwiz, then I don't consider it an option. I most likely keep my Note4 until it dies.

$200 for a phone on contract? That's a good deal. We don't get those affordable rates here in Jamaica. If so be the case, I'd have paid the $200 upfront and be done with it.
No not on contract... The current price of the note 4 on ebay is anywhere from $175 to $250 (usd) that's complete... On contract when I got this phone is 2014 it was like $750? I think.... I've been paying $32 a month for it for 22 months... I've 2 got payments left.
Looked on ebay earlier and saw one seller had some for $148 unlocked (again, on ebay)
I've been looking at the LG v20 reviews and stuff on YouTube. And I'm not sure I could call it a good enough upgrade for $800 usd!
It's a cool phone, but.... Yeah is sd820, and yeah it's HD audio, and yeah the extra little screen is all cool but just about everything it does the note 4 does too.... 4k video, 16mp camera (note 4), qhd amoled note 4 not ips lcd on the v20. The reviews are good but I dunno.
I guess I'll wait and see what 2017 brings to the table.
I am with you, on my last payments as well and have the itch beyond the itch, but really nothing out there. The wife has the S7 Edge and all she does is complain about it, but it is not rooted, debloated, etc...It might be the next one for me, or like you hang on till 2017 models start coming out. Honestly, think Samsung will figure things out so a Note 8 does not scare me, but must be packed to gills with tech and the latest and greatest processor.
I'm itching for the v20. But I have this feeling the next Samsung 2017 phone is going to be amazing.

So I started the reasons not to buy 7 pro thread

And now I took the plunge and ordered the 12gb nebula blue version lol
I'm bracing myself for rma hell, touch sensitive, ghost touch, camera, stuttering, battery, heating and overall quality control issues. Hope it's a worthy replacement to my 512gb midnight black note 9 which has been flawless. Looking forward to giving my final verdict.
I guess you got ?. BTW... There is already topic about this.

Only reason is for no notch and larger display. I upgrade when new notes or galaxy phones come out with larger displays then previous but since note 10 has a notch oneplus only other option. If the 7 pro is good I don't see a need to upgrade for a long time because the display cant get any bigger now. So I hope it doesn't disappoint since I've been happy with Samsung.

Thats fair. But I'm not a oneplus fanboy and I'm sure some other people might appreciate a more critical review.
you have to like the OnePlus 7 Pro for its bootloader unlock potential
Bootloader unlock and unobstructed screen are the best two points of the OnePlus 7 Pro, IMHO. If you live in the US, buying Samsung flagships is frustrating due to bootloader locked Snapdragon variants. If you focus on the positive benefits of the OnePlus 7 Pro, you'll be satisfied.

Me neither. Also will appreciate a more critical review, just not yours. You gave a long lists of reasons in your previous thread to not buy it without ever having held the device. So why should your review carry any weight?
Samsung S2,S6,S7e,S8+ user and this was the only device that swooned me away from Samsung. You're gonna love it. (With some minor withdrawals if you enjoyed some of the Samsung add-ons)
Also, don't approach the purchase with negativity, but with anticipation.

Most of the critical reviews were on the release and 9.5.3 FW's. Since the 9.57 the issues people compalined about are gone. No ghost touches (I never had them) and the camera is right there with the Pixel phones now and should actually get a little better still with future updates. The IP rating (most useless thing to cry about) and the Wireless charging (isn't needed, somethign to just cry about) are 2 "features" that aren't needed. I don't have womens hands so it's not that much bigger then some of the other phones out there and the weight is about the same as the Note's and the IPhone Max's weight.
IF those reviewers did a second review after the 9.5.7 update most are completely on board now and don't have anything to complain about.
Bracing for stuttering ?? And your coming from a note 9. That's priceless ??

The thing is they almost doubled the price for this phone. I'm wondering how much loyal people will be if they keep increasing the price with each successor. I had the first oneplus phone on release. For the price it was ahead of their time. They should of fixed all the bugs before releasing this one because people's expectations are higher now especially since they loose their value fast.
I just bought my oneplus 6T a few months ago for 550. Last month I upgraded to my OnePlus 7 pro for 669 with 8 gigs of Ram and 256 Gb of UFS 3.0 memory. I paid about 150 more. So in what world is that double the price. And OnePlus 7 buyers are actually paying LESS. Coming from a Samsung user OnePlus is one hell of a bargain.

The prices of these phones will keep going up as long as the big mfrs (SEC/AAPL) keep raising theirs. I got a 1TB S10+ ceramic for $1279 and that was $$$ but the original price of $1599? And don't even get me started on folding phones. Had one preordered because, well you know, I'm a sucker for it I guess. But times are changing and it seems like innovation is slowing down. I mean, come on, how much more do they expect (a phone) to do?!

You do know that OnePlus One was released with an open source CyanogenMod (No software team expense) and with everything mediocre apart from the processor??
And OP1 is what OP7 is right now, not OP7Pro.
And I don't know if OP7 is launched in Canada, but where I live, it's currently almost half the price of S10 as on amazon (US$890 for S10 8G 128GB, US$475 for OP7 6G 128GB).

Which pixel to buy?

I currently have an HTC U11 for more than 2 years and i am thinking of changing phone. I live in Italy and I don't have the opportunity to buy it in physical stores as Google is not marketed, however in this period there is a discount of 60 € in the official online store. Which to choose between 4xl and 3a xl? I have never had a google phone and it has always been my wish for many years.
4xl most definitely.
I'd rather go with 3axl. Easy on the budget with all the Google goodies and a great battery life to enjoy the experience!
Whatever one you want more
Main factor is your budget. If you can't pay for a Pixel 4 XL then go for cheaper options like the 3 XL or 3a XL (or wait for the 4a). If you can afford a 4 XL, then go for it. It'll most likely age the best if you plan on having it for 3 years.
Sent from my Pixel 4 XL using Tapatalk
The 4xl is clearly a better phone than the 3xl. However the 3xl is no slouch and it is a very good phone for the price. So pick the phone that you are comfortable with.
If you want the features the 4xl offers and can afford it, then get that phone. If you don't want to spend that kind of money, or you really don't need the features of the 4xl, then get the 3xl. I don't think you will be disappointed in either phone as long as you make an informed decision.
Thank you all for the answers.

My choice is based on reviews seen on YouTube and opinions of users on forums like this, since I don't have the opportunity to try the phone firsthand.
The only fact that is holding me back is battery: I would have expected at least a 4000mAh in 2019, having to keep the phone for at least two years.
This, and the fact that you pay a phone around € 900: simply for a problem of principle, is it worth it to pay so much?
Was also considering OnePlus 7t/7 pro but that camera is a thumb down..

Well technically the 4 XL has a better battery than the 3 XL, although in real life use I find they are about the same. Loving the 4 XL though.
But then... I loved the 3 XL at the time, so that doesn't mean much...
Pixel 4 XL. so far Great Phone.
I have better battery life with my 3a XL than the 4XL.by about 2 hours SOT. That thing was a beast for everyday use. Only fallback was no water protection.

I don't think the 4xl is worth 900€ not even close. I'd go for the OP7t which you can find on sale for about 550€ Save over 300€
It's worth for me, even for the camera alone. Besides, 7T is plagued with screen uniformity issues.

My opinion on Pixel 5

I come from the old Nexus phones: they were top tiers hardware, with the shell and the price of midrange phones.
Looking at the leaked Pixel 5 specs, it seems a midrange hardware with the shell and the price of a high end phone, the opposite of the Nexus...
What do you think?
I partially disagree with what you said. The Nexus line definitely had a midrange shell, but it also had (pretty much) last year's top tier processor and almost always a midrange camera (except for the nexus 6p).
I'd say that the new pixel phones may be a nice trade-off between camera, cpu, battery, shell quality and price rather than being a standout in any.
4a 5g is mid range price and most pixel 5 hardware. i think thats a steal for $500
The Pixel 5 is not a stand out phone but it will be a solid performer, much better battery, have a great camera and continue to improve over time.
Its £599 here in the UK which is pushing it. The Bose headphones (£250) thrown in makes it a very easy purchase.
The 5a with 5G looks to be great value too. the same offer on the headphones which makes it crazy cheap
I don't remember Nexus being like that at all. In fact, I remember that was what everyone complained about, just like Pixel 5. Anway, nobody is forcing you to buy one.
So many opinion posts... about a phone not even out yet. Did you miss out on pre order?

Question Are you getting a Pixel 5a?

It looks really good, but without a 90hz or higher screen, it's difficult for me to justify.
I am curious if we can trick Google to recognize a 5a as a 4a 5G, for some free "High quality backup" in Google Photos - as there aren't many differences between the two devices. Same silicon, same RAM and storage configuration, almost the same screen size.
I pre-ordered one. I got talked into it while asking about security/software updates on a budget phone forum here. It is more than I expected to spend, but people made me realize I don't know how to quantify the extra costs/risks of other manufacturers adding their own software on top of the android part that Google is patching.
I would be happy to pay less and reduce the specs further in some ways, but I am thinking about it as cost per year of software support, so I won't consider the older models that already have 1 or more years of their software life spent on the shelf... I'd probably be satisfied if it had 4GB RAM, 64GB flash, and LCD instead of OLED but with the same software. I am interested to see how the 5G works out w/ T-Mobile. (Edit: for reference, my current phone is a Moto G7 Play with 2GB RAM, 32GB flash, and a 720 pix wide screen. It is usable for me, but definitely shows its limits...)
Our last Google phone was a Nexus 5X. We went on a budget quest after that, thinking pixels were too expensive. We thought Moto was a decent value for a while, but I've been growing unhappy with their worsening software support. I.e. only 2 years and not even monthly on the budget models.
Yep, preordered mine.
No, I ordered the Galaxy S20 Plus from Google Fi for $50 less than the Pixel 5a. I am not a Samsung fan, but that's too much phone to pass up for $399.
Undecided. Would like the larger screen. If TWRP was an easy install (compared to 4a), would jump on it. Will probably wait another year (or two).
Personally, I will not. But I hope that people will be okay with the stuff that we see. It’s a lot of aspects that have been made with the stuff that we can talk about. It’s really cool that there have been solid phones over the years and I love that the Pixel continues to be a strong Android phone.
I was going to, but the camera overheating issue worries me. Want to see if that's prevalent in a wider adoption first.

If I'm not mistaken the 4a5g as well as the 5 all have the same camera setup and all experience the same overheating issue. Therefore, if this is true and Google has not "yet" done anything to resolve the issue then either they are unwilling to fix the problem, or they are unable to do so. I'm still getting one because I rarely even use the camera on any phone.
I did pre order the Pixel 5a for myself, will get rid of my iPhone 12 Pro Max then. Last Pixel I used and still have as a secondary home device is the Pixel 4 XL, which I loved, except for the absolute crap battery life, that thing blew for battery stamina, other than that running Android 12 beta 4 on it and it's smooth as hot butter.
If the Pixel 5a has similar smooth performance as my 4 XL, I'm fine with that, but I really need great battery life for my job out in the field a lot and on the go, don't have time to charge often. And I thought last years Pixel 5 was a bit too small, and I find my 12 Pro Max a bit too large, so an in-between phone size is exactly what I want, and good battery life. 6" display too small, and 6.7"+ size too large.
Like I said if the 5a has similar smooth performance as my 4XL, then I'm all good.
And man I can't wait to be rid of iOS, just such a frustrating OS and screwy way it works and Apple Maps blows.
Pre-ordered one from Google Fi for the wife. $15/month for 2 years including insurance on their subscription plan. She doesn't want to give up her Nexus 6P so I may change over to it from my Pixel 3XL.
I want to but currently I'm on a 4a and since it's not available in Canada, I'd have to jump through hoops to get one. I have a feeling Google will be asking too much for the 6/pro. I paid over $1000cnd for the Pixel 1 & 2, then dropped back to the 3a and now the 4a. I'm more than happy with the A-series phones.

I'm no expert on things Canada, (though I was born there) but seeing how close it is to the US, and if the phone has the necessary LTE/5G bands could you not somehow import one at US prices?

There in lays the trick. Apparently Google is clamping down on such shenanigans. Currently it appears my option is to have a friend who lives in Japan, order a US version, ship it there and pay import charges, then have him ship to me. I'm guessing but that'll put the cost of 5a into the 6/pro price range... And if that's the case, I'd be better off getting that directly from Google.
I'm the meantime, I'll hold onto my $'s and see what's what with the 6 and 6Pro and decide then. After all it's not like my 4a isn't doing the job
I pre-ordered. I have been holding out on replacing my 2 XL. No newer features, even flagship, were that appealing and I held out as long as I could since I cracked the screen on the 2 XL. All I need is stock android updates and long battery time. I don't play games, so not terribly concerned with the 60hz.
I preordered one as well. My first pure google phone. Can't wait to give it a try.
Pre-ordered mine along with the pixel a buds. Definitely looking forward to it. I know ill likely get one of the 6's as well lol.
I received notice that mine shipped today. It's supposed to be here Friday EOD.
If it ever launches in India, I am getting 2.
Oh well, started the RMA for mine this morning. Freezes up too often when streaming YouTube videos. Hesitates too much when scrolling through web pages. Gets hot using camera. Still on June 5th patch???? Hate the Pixel launcher. Had to put Nova on it! Just cannot compete with my OnePlus 8T. Say what you will about the evolution of OnePlus...but my last 3 phones from them have all been great! Still hard to beat for the $$$$$ I highly doubt that I will ever buy another Pixel. $35.00 restocking fee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! SMH
