Asus released SDK which included twin dock, finally can weextend an app to 2 screen? - ASUS ROG Phone 3 Questions & Answers

As per title, Asus have released SDK on unity for twin dock view. Do the guru here believe we can finally extend an app to use 2 screens instead of one screen though a proxy app? Would be great phone for productivity during travels like a mini laptop, or just not have your fingers obstruct your view during gaming. Let me know your ideas/feedback, cheers!

Compiz for Android

I know it's purely cosmetics, but cosmetically speaking, if there was a version of compiz that could run on Android with all the settings... I'm thinking smooth rotating desktop cube with 4 virtual desktops vs the current 3-screen swipy desktop... or window animations, etc... with the same silky smooth animation that you get from compiz in ubuntu.... Just imagining this on Android... all the iPhone users jaws would drop open at the sight of a smooth spinning cube desktop and windows that burst into flames, etc.
So my question to the devs... I am not a developer... Is this dream of mine of a Android-Compiz app at all possible?
It's possible, but I've heard that there is NO hardware acceleration on the G1 at the moment. Everythings being rendered with software.
Also, Compiz wouldn't be worth the battery life. Yes, it's sexy, but remember that this is a phone. I wouldn't trade what little battery life we already have for that.

Umm you're wrong about hardware acceleration, it certainly does have it, just take a look at the demo app qualcomm made to show off the chipset. That said, it's a PHONE. If you can manage to get all the compiz effects working smoothly on a 528MHz single core computer with 192MB of RAM and a really crappy onboard graphics chip then sure, it'll work(i.e. no, this phone has nowhere near the processing power needed to have compiz working, hell it doesn't even have full OpenGL, it's OpenGL ES)

<The message you have entered is too short. Please lengthen your message to at least 10 characters.>
480 x 320 screen resolution helps with the prcoessing needs... and compiz is highly configurable... I'll bet if the app (or one inspired by compiz) could be made to run on Android, it would be a matter of adjusting the right modest settings...
People don't buy iPhones for the battery life, and they don't even buy iPhones for the phone. The phone is like the cherry on top. They buy iPhones for the pure eye candy bliss.
All I'm saying is... don't under estimate the value of eye candy in the consumer market, and if Android had a compiz like app it would kill the iPhone on eye candy.
I want windows transitions to explode into flames, or fade in and out, or spin out of sight (similar to the page 1/page 2 transition for the 'toggle settings' app)... I want the desktop to be a rotating cube with 4 to 6 virtual desktops that spins as fast as I can slide my finger across the screen and eventually come to a smooth stop.
Just saying... it would kill the iPhone. Kill it. And it would sell a lot of G1s.
Doesn't compiz require x-windows to work?

Exactly, I had the same question.
What is the android window environment? It's not an x-windows, is it?
Good question, I don't know... but even so, seems like there could be a way to do it.
Like the existing swipey desktop... if it could be made into a revolving cube with 4 sides. And then to add widgets to any of the 4 virtual desktops (in the same way that we have 3 virtual desktops now)
I ask this all from a very humble, non-developer position... Just wanted to plant the seed in case there were any developers who thought it might be possible.
Android runs on the framebuffer -- there is no X.
The hardware acceleration for graphics is being used (videos wouldn't play without it, for instance). Comparatively, it's probably something like an old TNT graphics card (but with hardware acceleration for h264 and such).
There's a tiny chance in hell it could pull off very basic compiz features... but it would hose the system... (and require that you run X -- which would require you installing your own software base separate from and without Android).
No one's going to put in the effort for methinks, especially when it would so cripple the phone.

My thoughts exactly. Another thing I thought of is that the vast majority of compiz effects have to do with windows and the G1 doesn't really have separate windows so I don't see how it would work. Desktop Cube might be possible and maybe some fancier animation for bringing up programs but aside from that, I don't even see what compiz effects would be applicable.
I think Cube Desktop (with rotation speed determined by how fast your finger slides across the screen) and windows transitions (burn, spin, flip, fade, slide etc) would be a great place to start!
Well since android is OPEN SOURCE we could create a compiz for android using the window management libraries that we will also need to create and build this ontop of cyanogenmod
The cube animation is offered in rogros82's home replacement on the market called GDE, I'M CURRENTLY USING IT, the best home replacement app to date!
Have to agree there aren't many of the compiz effects that would apply to the Android world. Cube/Sphere desktop & window animations are really about it. As far as that goes GDE (launcher replacement) does most of what makes sense to adopt from compiz. I have been using it for about a week & it uses 2% battery on average. The application dock it comes with is nice too.
If someone wanted to look into making their own compiz-like effects, You could start by digging around OMS code to see how they got cube and all working. Like I said though most of it has been done already, and is just a few bucks on the market.

You beat me to it. GDE is a great app though. Being able to switch themes easily is also a nice feature.
GDE running now looks great.!
eats my battery i think but nice 2 have
Well I know the Samsung Behold 2 has an inside cube animation effect with it's home/launcher but I wouldn't know how to pull it from the SB2 and port it to the Dream.
That's just an idea for the devs...
GO Launcher EX
GO Launcher EX has the cube animations built in it's effects for home screen and app drawer.. It works well
So does ADW EX.
Great way to bring a thread back from the grave...

The ZTE Avid N9120 has this cube. As you add apps, the cube expands the total number of sides it has .
Metropcs offers this phone via best buy and other sources.. worth every penny.
You can extract the cube to a desktop and add it to every phone on earth.
How Awesome Would This Be?!
Compiz on the Galaxy Note 3 or 4 and the Galaxy Edge!? With some special effects that run down the edge of the Edge. That would be fantastic! I personally love cosmetic stuff. Themes, status bar mods from xuimod, or Wanam Exposed. Now if someone could rebuild compiz with burn and cube and wave and wobbly windows! Let me just include one more exclamation point to express my enthusiasm!

HTC Apps

Does anyone have the other HTC Apps that are shown on the hub in all the photos.
Notes, Stickys and flash light?
All i have is the photo editor
No, on my O2 handset they are also missing.
If you go into Marketplace > Applications there is an 'HTC Apps' category on the first screen but selecting it only says 'not available'. I was hoping there would be either some pre-installed or available to download free to HTC devices. Bedside Clock was the one I wanted forthe HD7.
I'm disappointed by the quality of HTC's apps so far.
They are still designing their apps in the Sense style, when everything about Windows Phone 7 is Metro. For a good example of this, have a look at the Unit Converter app (by Microsoft) available from the Marketplace. It fits perfectly with the Metro style. The HTC Converter app is garish in comparison with too much faux-3d bezels, borders and colour. I uninstalled it immediately. The same applies to the Stocks app; it doesn't fit with WP7.
And in fairness to many of the other developers on the Marketplace, they have seen the advantages of the Metro style and have developed their GUIs in accordance.
Let's hope HTC will release future apps in the Metro style.

I totally agree! I was getting so tired of the Sense UI, which I've used since early Touch3D, and have been looking forward to change - they have flooded the market putting it on WM and Android.
I think the new HTC HUB is a big let down, the apps don't have a common interface, it takes too long to get into the weather. All the HTC hub is for is eyecandy.
HTC created the "info at a glance" UI with Sense, but they have totally lost the plot.
The flashlight app is probably the only one I'll continue to use. Am I right in thinking that most of the flashlight apps on the Marketplace don't actually use the LEDs on the back, they just change the display to full brightness?
I have to say the Love app is particularly bizarre..

probably HTC's punishing MS for not letting it bloat the new OS
I wonder how MS let HTC to release apps with that design. They didn't even try to follow guidelines.

Hi I have the Htc HD 7 on O2 network Uk and I have download all the Htc apps and are running fine.
although I do feel that htc hub is a waste on the phone. I t should have been more like how they have it on android. I beleive Microsoft is at fault.
But they are brilliant apps though too bad they dont compliment WM7 much as they do android .
Might get my self an Desire Hd as well

Shake Them All (Yougli)
Zoomfield (Kai Bjurman)
yes I've used all these and many more many times over including the cool ones that dont work due to incompatible resolutions like vr tunnel, seeds of life, circuit board, pano planet earth rot ect...you have to work your mojo to get them to stick and they often wont stick forever (just turning off your screen will cause many of these to revert back to your last static wallpaper) but they can be made to stick long enough to impress your friends. the ONLY live wallpaper I've tried that absolutely will not work is Silhouette. It does a funky split screen stuff that just wont behave no matter what. none of the samsung ports have ever worked on my phone either.
Thanks! Got some of these installed! Anyone else? Some really good ones there!
Marc
I was wondering if any of the aquarium LWP's worked. I tried the two aniPET ones, and they don't work, but the idea of having a virtual fish tank on your screen is kind of cool =]
Oh, and this one works too. Its the one I'm using right now. SMB FTW!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=710647
Edit: just installed the New York Giants one from WebApse. I don't know if the other one worked (from SilentDesign I think), but this one does. Even though the Giants have been done since week 17...still gotta love it =]
Can anyone tell me where I can get these and how I install them ?

first phone must be rooted and loaded with a rom that support live wallpapers (most froyo and eclair roms at this point). All the ones I listed are directly from the android market and most free.
It seems hit or miss which work and which don't some of those on the list didn't want to work on my phone.
Peace

some may have been updated to higher resolution, unsupported openGL (beautiful widgets weather for one) but for the most part all should work. I'm curious to which ones on the list didn't work for you.
thanks for this list. been hit and miss for which ones work on my rom. but good resource.
any that have updated to OpenGL ES wont work or wont work well:
Beautiful Widgets (old works great but if you dont have it backed up cant get it)
Nexxus Revamped (same. old works great, new is OpenGL ES)
list will probably get larger. do NOT do update if you see the update includes OpenGL ES (both the above describe in update description).

[APP] Dualweb browser

Check it in market its pretty cool but I think it's a bit buggy
I was on pulse news just browsing and came across it.
If you have problems, disable 2 screens from the browser leave google then enable again
I'm at work so I can't be very descriptive
GREAT!!! it works fine. Some bugs but this is the first version so its nice for a starting version.
I would prefer to have vertical split screen option like in windows 7 that you can have one screen in the left and the other one in the right

This is awesome. Perfect for keeping up with various subforums at once. Thanks for increasing my ADD.
This shows a dev who understands how the tablet environment works. Needs the labs quick controls app or something similar to access bookmarks, new tab, etc.
This is definitely awesome! I could be reading XDA and school work at the same time

This is way cool! I've wanted, for a while now to make dual page browser but sadly I know nothing about creating apps. I even whipped up a chopped screenshot. Excellent find.

I dont understand how to make wallpaper fit....

Hello xda I have been out of the android department for a while. To be exact its been since December of 2011 and since than I have been a member of the iOS family. I have recently gotten back into the world of android with a galaxy s4. Unfortunately I have run into a problem that I used to all the time when I had my old htc evo. The wallpapers do not fit. They are always zoomed in. Regardless of the crop it zooms in. Some launchers allow the scrolling effect which if you scroll the five slides you see the whole wallpaper but I am not really looking for that. I was more hoping to see the whole wallpaper at all times (like I do on iphones). I have seen post about different wallpaper apps that can crop the wallpaper to fit right but unfortunately those are not working for me either. They always zoom it to far out and half my screen is black while the middle is the wallpaper. I just dont get why this was an issue almost 3 years ago and it still is....

This is very easy to do depending on your launcher but the instructions also vary depending on your launcher, so what launcher are you using? I personally recommend Nova. Do you also have a specific wallpaper? If your wallpaper isn't made to fit (ie 1920x1080) then som if it will just have to be cropped.
You can also try Wallpaper Wizardri from the market.
