What are the best/ random / strange random USB-C accessories that you can find? - Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra Accessories

I mean, these phones are like mini computers so I would like to compile a list of USB-C accessories that are strange, weird, useful, etc, etc....
I am starting the list with these 2:
FLIR ONE Pro Thermal Imaging Camera for Android USB-C
Walabot DIY wall scanner

Ordered one of these:
https://nexdock.com/
and one of these

These are sort of cool but the C port isn't very robust.
Replacement is a pain. I don't even like using the C port for audio and the port itself should be on the top of the phone for app uses.
The Android C Port by Ronco, it slices, it dices... whatever.
Interference with the case with the FLIR One could be an issue plus it needs to sit flush to the case or phone so it can't be leverage sideways potentially damaging the jack... or twisted in a fall.
A dedicated tool be best if you plan to use it a lot especially in construction or for heavy field work.

How do you like the NexDock so far? I got mine a few weeks ago and haven't used it much yet. Other than productivity apps like office, I'm finding the lack of compatibility some apps have with Dex to be frustrating and it stops me from wanting to use DEX and NexDock

Dock with pogo charger

Any news on this?
I havent heard of anything. Unfortunately Samsung is infamous for sucking at life at such things. Im hoping that this 3rd party pogo cable option leads to it but until then I think I am going to make my own. I ordered the cable, I will probably try and shoehorn it into an existing dock.
I really dont care for just another cable. I'll make it so its part of the dock, run the USB cable to a port and make an extension. Hopefully the end product is a dock I can leave on my desk and just drop the tablet in.
Seems so strange and bad-for-business...
Its one of the downsides of going with a Nexus device. Google still sucks at hardware delivery and the manufacturer doesn't care about making accessories for a small numbers device. If Google were bright in the hardware regard they would have learned their lessons and made the accessories part of the original contract for delivering the Nexus devices.
That makes a lot of sense actually I wonder if Samsung will ever make one or leave the making of all accessories to third parties. At least it will be a quality product if Samsung gets around to it..
Sent from my Nexus 10 using XDA Premium HD app
I'm in the same boat. I've been hoping for a pogo dock since before I even purchased my nexus 10.
yeah I was hoping for a pogo dock with sound (and if possible HDMI) output too.
If it could be in a small design like the original iPad dock it would be brilliant.
Can't understand why no one have made this yes as it seems so obvious
N10 Pogo Dock
By the time this becomes available, our device will be obsolete.
I always thought there was a market for accessories but obviously I'm wrong concerning the N10 after becoming a reality.
Its Samsung man. Look at the other Nexus devices, those have accessories that leverage features of the devices.
I've never been a fan of accessories that only work on one or very few devices. I have a nice dock for my 1st gen Android which means it's useless for anything else.
Meanwhile a DIY dock is a better option. Once I find pogo cables for less than $20 I'll build one and redo it once I have a different device.

What would you change about Dex?

I've been swaying back and forth on buying a Dex. In Canada, the retail price is very high ($250...although there are some deals).
I'm curious what owners/testers thought should have been included/excluded? I'd personally liked to have seen video-over-usb-c, an audio output, and a more approachable pricepoint.
Thoughts?
the price is insane, will not even consider at this price point....but im seeing some chinese knock offs that lead me to believe there is no proprietary/special hardware that makes this functionality happen. Maybe even a simple usb-c, 3-way usb-power / HDMI MHL adapter would work? Anyone tested MHL adapter yet?
I bought these.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B074MYLP9C/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
This one does not work with DEX, it can mirror your screen that is all.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B074SXBZ3S/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
This is a cheapish Chinese one. I can confirm that this works as a DEX station, the one main difference between this one and the official one is the Ethernet lan port is missing.
From what I have found online there is a chip in the dock that tells the Samsung device to switch between the Dex mode or mirror mode. The only other option you have if you want to use the first type of usb-c dongle is to root and use a custom kernel that has been baked into a custom ROM.

I got mine for under $100 through B&H. Brand new.
The knockoff would be about $30 less and I'd much prefer to stick with the original dex station.
so far I´d change:
Hi Y'all.
I'd like a display port to complement the HDMI port.
A dock with a more case friendly design would also have been appreciated.
It took me a while to figure out the apostrophe on a physical keyboard.
"I'd, Y'all, can't" ect. gave me some weird responses.
A USB-C hub would have been nice to complement the other ports.
Apart from this I'm a happy camper.
Regards
Elo.

What kind of motomod would you build?

If you could request -- or righteously demand -- any custom Moto mod, what would it be?
( Try to stay within the boundaries of physics and reasonability... That being said, legally or morally questionable is totally legit).
I personally would love a mod with a 6300mAh (or greater) battery extension that also housed the following ports: 2x USB 2.0, 1x stereo 1/8", 2x microSD.
It sounds like a lot, I know, but I figure if they can pack those damn 7-in-1 flash media adapters into a 2"x3" chunk of plastic, why couldn't they do it in a mod with some extra battery love?
What about of a mod with IR blaster, one or two more SIMs support, one more microSD slot and wireless charge support all-in-one?
Since of my info, it should be doable...

"Does not exist."
I would love to see an output or something on the mod to use it as a VR headset to the PC. That would be intuitive. Might need some coding to it and an official update to the mods app by Motorola, but would be a nice addition of "gimmicks" motomods bring.
Woops . Try this. http://www.hardkernel.com/main/products/prdt_info.php?g_code=G145457216438
Hi people I'm new. And happy to be here.
I appreciate all the work xda do, and I hope to learn from the community.
So please bear with me for making foolish comments.
Now my option for a mod is something like a wireless charger, flip cover case with a headphone jack.
If some more battery power can be added fine.
But this will be a case ft a headphone jack= best phone ever!!!
yeah, having a headphone jack would be useful, ive been burned several times forgetting that dang dongle!
I slide-out gamepad, to mimic the Xperia Play. Motorala's current gamepad is not travel friendly at all.
I always loved the way my Moto 360 turns into a little bedside clock when you put it on the charger. What if we had a Moto Mod dock you could put your phone on to charge and turn your phone into a little bedside clock. Maybe it also shows notifications on one side and have a clock with the weather forecast on the other.
Honestly i know it was talked about but it appears the project was a huge scam but why not take the edgemod as seen on indiegogo at https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/edge-mod-supercharge-your-moto-z#/ and combine it with Dual Sim Support, some of motorola's devmods look like they could easily make that happen.

Great!
I have the experience and most of the know-how to make a board for the stuff suggested... I've built bread boards before, and even custom programmed eprom chips before for custom audio rigs. I've dabbled with raspberry pis... Maybe after Xmas bonus I'll put down the money to buy the motomod Dev kit and see what I can do. The boards and modules won't be the difficult part. Building the exterior form factors to make it actually end-user friendly will be another story.
If (big if) I can get a few boards made that work exactly as intended with their respective modules, I'll see about the next step. This kind of stuff is way more in my wheelhouse than mobile programming.
I have many ideas but one would be a battery mod which accepted AA batteries. So instead of an internal sealed battery it could be sold without batteries and then just add the AA batteries and it would be working for emergencies.
Multi-mod
Kind of thick, but I think it may be worth the bulk
2000mAh bonus battery - reasonable, IMO
3.5mm port on the bottom, IR blaster on the top, a full size USB A port on the left, a full size HDMI port on the right. Plug in monitor, keyboard, and mouse with a USB hub for an instant desktop, or plug into a TV to mirror the screen. Obviously, things like plugging in USB gamepads for multiplayer phone gaming, plugging in a microphone and MIDI controller to use with FL Studio Mobile, etc, are fair game.
Slide it down for a 5 row keyboard. Out of the sides of that comes a flat gamepad with four shoulder buttons, four main action buttons, a d-pad, start and select buttons, and two clicky PSP-style flat sliding joysticks. It can wrap around the keyboard to create something like a Nintendo DS but with a keyboard instead of a second screen, or can wrap around the phone while the keyboard is hidden to give you a PS Vita-like setup.
Essentially, the point is to turn the phone into a pocket laptop. Need to work, but your laptop is nowhere near? Boom. Want to get your game on without touchscreen controls getting in the way? Boom. Want to plug in a scanner via USB and preserve priceless family photos dating back centuries? Boom.
If I were to prototype this myself(which I unfortunately lack the skills and funds for), I'd imagine it would come out costing about $180, with profit margin thrown in. Here's how I figure.
rPi Zero for ports - $15
Scrap PSP and four small buttons for game controller - $50
Keyboard - $30
Requisite connectors - $10
Plastic case (probably would have to have these custom 3D printed in bulk or simply get a 3D printer) - $5-ish
New 2,000mAh li-ion battery: $20
Cost to me: $130
Profit per unit without considering other overhead like work time or having to buy a 3D printer: $50
Honestly, the more I go on typing this, the more I want to check out how to actually make something like this.

A prototype with all working features wouldn't be the hard part of any of this... the hard part would be the physical engineering of making it "compact" and pocket friendly. Not just 3-d printing, but you would eventually have to get in there with some rebound steel strips and such to make the "Slide" out sections slide properly... but fortunately, in the world we live in, if you had a working prototype (no matter how fugly and un-pocketable) some company is likely to buy it from you. A company that actually has the manufacturing resources to build all the nitty gritty mechanical parts.

[Discussion] 7 Pro - Features it's missing and why they don't matter

I've read a few articles or discussions bringing up feature that the 7 pro lacks, often times mentioning that individual items by themselves are deal breakers or several together might lead someone not to buy it.
Here are some of the ones I've seen the most, and why they really aren't a big deal
No 5G - 5G is still in its very early days and won't see widespread adoption for several more years. If you're not in one of the top 10 cities, don't be surprised if it you don't see it before the 7 pro's hardware is obsolete anyways. With all the new 5G phones coming out soon, the number of people that upgrade to them will skyrocket and likely over-saturate the available 5G networks, bogging down the purported speed benefits. Further, 4G LTE hits more than adequate speeds anyways. 99% of what anyone does on the internet isn't going to require more than 10Mbps connections. Some video streaming might require more than that, but I've seen 4G tests hit nearly 100Mbps (consistent, not spike speeds), so it is more than capable of handling what people throw at it. Cellular providers limit video streaming in most cases to 720p resolutions anyway.
Even the advertised latency improvements aren't a big deal. The only area where super low latency makes a significant difference is online gaming, and 4G already hits sub-50ms latency. I've personally played FPS games with a latency anywhere from 100ms - 2000ms (<- not a typo) many many times before, and rarely noticed even 200ms negatively affecting my game.
No WiFi 6 - Again, a young technology which won't see widespread adoption for several more years (many public wifi spots don't even have AC yet), and promises unnecessary speed improvements. 4K content can be easily streamed through a wireless N router with no buffering.
No wireless charging - This may be more of a preference, but the way I see it, wireless charging limits you in exchange for essentially no benefits. You can't move your device around while it's on the charging mat, unless you also pick the mat up with it and hold them together; plus, it's slow. Plug in your phone and you can easily pick it up and continue to use it while it's charging. One of the big "benefits" to wireless charging that gets touted around a lot is "removing the hassle of plugging in". Well, the charging mat still needs to be plugged in, and plugging a cable into your phone takes literally one second. With the battery life phones are advertising these days you almost never have to plug in before going to bed anyways. Seriously, what is the point of wireless charging?
No IP rating - Oneplus has done a great job of waterproofing the phone already, and adding an "official IP rating" doesn't magically improve its existing water resistance. There are several water videos on youtube already, with one going as long as 30 (broken up) minutes in a water bowl. Another shows that 2 days after their test the phone is still working fine. TBF, there is one video which shows the phone gets water inside it after a period of time, but that is at a depth of 1.5m (approx 5ft), and water pressure increases with depth (ie water works harder to get in the deeper it is). Throw the most water proofed phone into the bottom of the ocean and I guarantee it will get flooded. The companies that do provide an IP rating for their phones don't cover water or dust damage anyways. Outside of walking in the rain most people will be keeping their phones dry, so this really is not a big deal in the least.
No 3.5mm jack - OK maybe I lied just a tad in my title, as this is kind of a big deal since there aren't any good alternatives yet.
No SD Card slot - The storage options available for the phone are already pretty good. With most media consumption now being streaming, high storage capacities don't seem quite as important (I don't need to tote around my 50GB+ music collection, I can stream off YT, Spotify, even set up a home streaming server), and there are several good cloud storage options available (mega for one gets you up to 50GB for free).
Well, that about sums up this post. Obviously a large part of choosing which phone to buy is preference and subjective, but I think that at least these complaints against the phone are virtually unfounded (with the exception of the headphone jack of course )
I pretty much agree, the only convenience of wireless charging is that different phone types can use the same charger for example Samsung and an iphone can wirelessly charge on the same pad with no need for specific cables.

There are adapters available which will allow you to charge and use headphones at the same time. https://www.amazon.com/Charging-Ada...way&sprefix=usb-c+charge+audio,aps,137&sr=8-1
It's a great phone, the first OP phone I have ever owned. I've always used Iphone and Samsung S/Note series before. But to me the camera is very important in a phone since I take a lot of pictures and even though I tried to make the pictures better with GCam and upgraded to latest OOS, I still think the camera is weak compared to the "flagships". Maybe the camera will improve one the next device but if it doesn't I plan to switch back to Samsung.
Can we expect to see the a 7T pro model with some of these features?
Or will the "T" model be the 7 Pro 5G with no other new features except 5G technology?
I'd love to have pocket mode back. Too many times it has become unlocked in my pocket for unknown reasons.

Personally, I am in the "don't want to have to mess around with dongles" camp. One of the huge pluses to the 3.5mm Jack is it just works. I've read a few reviews of various dongles that say they don't work with certain phones. Compatibility was never a problem with the 3.5mm

I haven't really followed OP in the past so I'm not sure what kind of improvements/changes they typically make for their T model, but I had been under the impression that the 5G would be a separate model from the T
No Wireless Charging: I feel like no wireless charging on a glassbacked device is a big FU, No reason to drop metal unibody for weaker glass only to cut costs and raise profit margins the same reason no wireless charging included, "The whole it's slow" is a bs excuse, Xiaomi proved that with 20w wireless charging on the Mi 9.
No 3.5mm Jack: Why remove the universal audio port??? Again no reason, No alternatives only to push there crappy accessories. Why should we be forced to re buy headphone etc when our current headphones work fine? Also to touch on the charging point now as we have no headphone jack we have 2x the wear on the Type C port so wireless charging could of helped with that to migrate the wear and improve longevity.
No SD Card Slot: Again no reason to not include a dual SIM + Micro SD, Another reason to get you to buy higher priced UFS storage instead just like Apple does it. Other devices had no problem including a hybrid dual SIM.
I'll add another of my own
No 3.5mm Jack adapter: How can you remove the headphone port and then make you pay $12.95 for an adapter which is only passive so they cost nothing to make you can buy them from China for like 30 cent each. So think the cost to make it it's nothing to them yet they can't give us one in the box...
All bull**** just to cut costs and make the end user pay more ez marketing. We are getting less for more money.
Sd card not needed due to fast ufs storage 3.0. headphone jack - time to move on. . 5g and wiFi 6 . It sounds nice to have now just to feel a false sense of future proofing . But by the time these speeds become useful the rest of this phone will be outdated and most people would of moved on to the OnePlus 10pro. I started a whole thread about the disadvantages of the OnePlus 7 pro and th conclusion from everybody is that this phone offers everything somebody needs now and as a bonus at a fantastic price and for a very long time.

Why do you feel it's time to move on from the headphone jack? You can get incredible sounding audio from it, it's royalty free (maybe USB-c is too? idk), any connector made to fit into the jack will just work, and no need for dongles or adapters. I've seen reviews on many usb-c headphones that they don't work with or aren't fully compatible with various devices
I agree with the other points though

To me the wireless charging falls under the "bells and whistles" category; completely unnecessary, but convenient in specific instances. Your phone is still "tethered" to a specific spot; even more so than plugging in because you can't even pick the phone up or charging stops. Maybe it is becoming faster, but what I had read online indicated it was slower than wired charging.
I agree with the audio port issues. Very upsetting they removed it, and couldn't even include an adapter!
At first I thought it was just a blind copy of what apple did (far too much of that going on I think; from the headphone jack, display notch {I personally prefer full-on bezels over any type of notch/cut out/hole punch}, overall design trends {a lot of phones might be mistaken for iPhone at a quick glance these days}), but now I think it's just a money grab
SD cards I think are far less necessary these days with the increased storage capacity of the phones
BTW I like your profile image ? lol

Red would be cool. I'm surprised they didn't make one!
Have there been any cases of apps using the front camera to spy on people? I hadn't heard of anything like that happening
for headphone jack, try a Bluetooth DAC such as Fiio's btr series. It is very likely better audio quality plus you dont have to tangle the wire since the dac is small and you can just clip it on your clothes somewhere.
I have btr3 and its awesome. All Bluetooth codec supported and sounds great. There are cheaoer options and they are good too.

Overlooked this when buying the tablet, supprised there was no adaptor included. Are they assuming all the buyers are S10 users?
Anyway, will any adaptor work or does it have to be one from Samsung?

The adaptor has to have a dac built in or it will not work with the tablet same with the note 10
The Note 10 dongle has a DAC built in. It should work for the tab s6. I have one ordered right now.
I have USB C audio adapter from Huawei Mate 20 Pro, but when i connect it to the tablet, a message appears that the usb device is not supported.
I have S5e, but it should apply S6
I have few different USB C headset adapter for Pixel and HTC U11 Life, both work as it's supposed to
As much as I hate to say it, the cheap Apple one is one of the best you can get unless you're willing to spend quite a bit more. Did a bunch of reading after I ordered my Note 10+, tests put the Apple one ahead of the Google ones and plenty of others that cost 5 times as much as the Apple one. Works well, but as with all things Apple the cable is going to fray within a year. I added a silicone stress relief that covered the entire cable since I had a bag of them, maybe it'll last two years.
have 2 of those
none are working with korean LTE S6
any idea why?
thanks
Bought this one works perfectly.

This model works on the N10, S8, and my laptop via Type C. My S6 hasn't arrived, but it would likely function given the devices I mentioned. Sound quality is great with my KZ earbuds.

I haven't received my S6 yet but this Google dongle works with my Note 10+ so I imagine it will work with the tablet too.

Oddly enough, the Middle eastern versions (and most probably Europeans) got a type C headphones in the box, i myself bought from Bahrain and we got a type C headphones, albeit the cheap kind but hey it works
USB C connector has analog headphone connection
They are switched in with some sense ID magic, but there is left, right, and microphone analog wires. You can find the details in a search.
Any cheap (non-DAC) headphone adapter should work as it is just the right wiring and maybe a few resistors on the right pins. I have one that works.
I purchased 2 and both make hissing soumd, One was noname, the other Baesus make both ****.
