Flashing International Firmware on North American variant - Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 Guides, News, & Discussion

All Galaxy Z Fold 2's have the Snapdragon chipset. So I was wondering if we can flash global firmware (F916B) on a North American (F916U) phone. Can anyone test it out? If we can do that, then we should be able to root the North American variant.
I've asked a few people about this and I've gotten mixed responses. So I was wondering if anyone can test it out. I haven't received my Z Fold 2 yet so I can't test.

Not possible right now, odin regardless of hardware will not allow cross flashing of different model numbers. It will fail everytime
I haven't even seen anyone try using the modified odin on the note 20 ultra yet let alone the more expensive fold.

Wasn't this done on the Note 10+ to go between U and U1?

U and U1 were the the same device. Similar to how the carrier variants of the fold can be flashed to unlocked firmware.
I imagine there's something different though that makes it so we can't flash the firmware from the international and vice versa.

Not quite sure but I thought there were really only 2 versions with the only difference being the amount of storage...

The US Unlocked version don't have the eSIM activated... I'm just hoping a software update will activate the eSIM like the EU one's.

This person has a US Unlocked model and was asked which SIM did he want to use but as far as i know, only the East has gotten the Sept update to enable esim
https://www.reddit.com/r/GalaxyFold/comments/j3j7gj/i_was_activating_my_silver_z_fold_2_and_i_was/

I contacted samsung support yesterday and they said that esim will be enabled with next update(US).. of course they did not provide any date so I guess we just need to wait

I'm thinking maybe in 2 weeks. Hoping for next week. Google usually pushes security updates the first Monday/Tuesday of the month and at times Samsung has been quicker.

New update pushed. Still no eSIM
To the previous poster who mentioned Samsung told him eSIM would be enabled in the next update, that update was pushed today, and unfortunately, still no eSIM. I feel like this alone makes my $2k phone not worth its price tag...

I spoke to Samsung last week and was told there will be no esim update for the (US)

They've been claiming an update since day 1, still not here. I do believe it's coming though since it's an advertised feature and included in the spec; they pretty much have to cough it up sooner or later.

A "pre-sales" chat with Samsung proves they're advertising this device as eSIM capable, and stating it will be enabled in an update. So it seems we're getting mixed responses (maybe depending on whether or not we've already bought the device?) All I know is that the hardware supports it and their representatives say it is supported and will be enabled, even if that's only to make a sale...

Doesn't matter. They are not blacklisting phones without official volte. If it supports volte, which the a version does, it will work.

Do you know for sure if Model A support VoLTE? I'm pretty interested in this phone (coming from a Razer Phone 2), but the lack of VoLTE is kind of a killer (especially if T-Mobile is going to mandate it). I tried contacting Asus's support about it, but the guy I got in chat really didn't seem to know anything.
Also, does anyone know if it supports wi-fi calling? Since T-Mobile's coverage isn't... always the best... this is also a pretty important feature.

Thanks. If Asus won't be implementing it officially, then I guess I'll wait for a custom ROM before buying the phone that does enable it.
Anyone know when this will be on ASUS U.S. store? I thought it was supposed to release july 22nd but cant find it anywhere except ebay coming from HK
Hi everyone!
I am considering to import Asus Rog Phone 3 CN version with Global ROM from China to France because it would save me around 400 euros.
Please suggest there would be any major issues with such imported devices? Has anyone imported smartphones from CN with Global ROM? Please let me know. Your inputs would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

As most of you know, the U1 has no WiFi Calling or Visual Voicemail on AT&T. Neither Samsung nor AT&T will do ANYTHING to put the carrier specific features on the U1.
(Carriers should put these features on THE SIM CARD for UNLOCKED PHONES!!!)
Anyway, I figured I'd rather have the features than the silver hinge, so I requested a return/refund from Samsung and LOOK WHAT HAPPENS:
The Watch, Pods & Kevlar Kickstand cost me $727.34 !!!
I ordered a Black Fold2 from AT&T for $1999.99. Got the $15/mo insurance too.
Now... Obviously I'm NOT shipping the Black/Silver U1 back to Samsung! I can sell it for at least $1900. Their price is still $1999.99 but only if you finance it (0%) or $2799.99 if you don't - and no more bundle deals!
SO... The question is, if you were in my shoes, would you:
1) Keep the U1 because you're sure you'll have no problem flashing AT&T firmware onto it.
2) Keep the AT&T and live without the silver hinge, the ability to switch carriers and the other advantages of having the unlocked variant.
3) Get an S20 Plus or Note 20 instead.
4) Other idea.
I'm dumbfounded! Let's hear what you guys would do. Please.

1) Since they're all the same identical hardware, I'd only need to have AT&T unlock the IESN to have a U1 anyway.
2) I'm swapping main boards as soon as my right eyeball no longer has a gas bag in it from retinal reattachment surgery.
3) I'm using the AT&T "beast" as my DD already.

Relax brother, it'll come. Eventually firmware for all the US carriers will be readily available. AT&T is always the hardest to come by, but it'll happen. I went with a T-Mobile variant, as I am on t-mobile, and I'm not sure i even want to flash to the U1 this time around...I'll wait until there is an update that makes a meaningful impact.

Bro, since these Fold2's will never get BL unlocked w/out tripping Knox, any variant that's SIM unlocked is the same as any other, except for carrier specific features, which, as I've said before, SHOULD BE PROVIDED VIA THE G.D.F. SIM CARD!!! What a concept, huh?
Anyway, as I mentioned a couple of posts back, I'm swapping main boards as soon as I have two good eyes again. I'll have the only AT&T model# phone with a custom hinge on the planet. At least for a while.
You don't need an unlocked BL to flash carrier specific firmware, so not sure what that was addressing. Just saying ATT is the hardest firmware to come by, and AFAIK the only one that gates those carrier specific features to their specific firmware.

I know Odin. I'm not a dummy. I'm saying the hardware is all identical. So... Any SIM Unlocked F916 is a U1 or whatever firmware you flash it with. Also, they'll never be rooted, so WTF cares? And each carrier has their own VVM and WiFi Calling, etc., so, no, you can't use AT&T VVM on Verizon or Verizon WiFi Calling on TMobile, etc. .
Now, I have to say... As much as I miss Nandroid, Xposed (especially Gravity Box and SAAX) and TiBk, after a few days on the Fold2, my V20's seem SOOOOO D-A-M-N.... ..... S-L-O-W !!!!
But, they still do tons of stuff the Fold2 can't, so I'll still have one handy for those situations. 1 in the car, 1 in the SUV, 1 in the house.

Official One UI 2.5 Features with Video!

I guess this will be the last major update for our beloved Galaxy Note 9. Long story short, this update is amazing! The first thing I noticed after the update was the clear dark screen (it was a bit yellowish after few updates previously thought it was a defect but turns out to be software related). Not only that some cool features like:
Wireless DeX
SOS Messaging every 30min if location changes
Video Pro Mode Histogram, 24 FPS on 4K and 1080p Pro Mode Video
Keyboard Split when on landscape
I actually flashed the stock rom of Germany on my XSG device and seriously this is the best decision ever! Fluid performance and decent battery life!
EDIT
*Hey guys many of my subscribers been complaining about yellow tint or so called discoloration. I had it on my local ROM as well but flashing Germany ROM fixed it. No overheat, no discoloration, excellent performance and battery. So if you want to end these issues than follow this video
The thing i wanted the most was wireless dex and it's there all the other things are extra bonuses which i love as well. Good lock modules too.
And they call it ***an update***? Except Wireless DEX barely any notable worthy changes. Camera was crap and still is.
And they call it *** update ***? Except for the Wireless DEX, hardly any notable changes. The camera was **** and still is.
I cannot turn off spellcheck underline after update, the option is off but its still showing.

Did anyone notice that the low light video recording looks way less noisy compared to the previous updates on the Exynos model. Makes me very angry that it took so long to fix these issues. I will never recommend buying new Samsung devices again.
Camera update?! Only pro video mode?
Got the update on Spectrum! 2.5 is here. Downloading now.
Haven't gotten it on my N9 yet, but just received it on my Tab S6. Finally! I can use the full screen gestures on Nova Launcher! Can't wait you get it on my unlocked Note using the TMO firmware. There's the only thing that had completely bummed me out with the upgrade to Android 10 - third party launchers lost a lot of their usability with the upgrade & I hate having to use OneUI without being did to use Nova....
Mic selection toggle is unavailable on the NOTE 9
I've upgraded it mostly to get the Mic selection option but it's an s10+ or later exclusive... such a shame !!!
Is that a method ti get the s10+ camera apk into N9 without root?
The funny thing is that the N9 app is a newer version so it's impossible to downgrade via apks...
SMH...
Regretfully the Galaxy Note9 on my hand is still running One UI 2.1, though the firmware is already the latest one.
Note: the actual model of my Galaxy Note9 is SM-N9600 under TGY.

Not released for USA yet. You guys often seem to be the last in getting updated. No idea if it's because you've got Snapdragon CPUs and not Exynos or it's just a carrier thing.
Got the update this morning, on T-mobile in California (USA).
Alright, so now that we've got it, can someone explain to me how to use Wireless DeX? Specifically, I'm unclear about the connection requirements.

I have the U1 on TMO as well. No update.
I think it will come eventually, but the rollout schedule of these things makes zero sense.
Edit: Maybe the rollout schedule is prioritized to service all carrier models first, then the U1 last.
@lazarus0000
Received the update this morning on Old Folks Cellular (Consumer Cellular - unlocked N9). lol.
CC is affiliated w/ AT&T and TM, so hopefully you will receive the update soon.
Does anyone know the apk file name for the "Send SOS Messages?"
Can I assume the One UI update is the one starting with F? Like “FTJ8”. The SM-N9600 (the model I've got) has only got an F series firmware for Open China, but I guess that one doesn't have Google services.
There's another recent update, ETK2, but I don't think it's One UI 2.5.
Finally! Woke up this morning & it was an early Christmas! And, like Christmas, slow slow slow to get here!
But I can finally go back to using Nova Launcher & get the best Sammie has to offer and the sweet goodness of a customer launcher that does everything I want it to!
Malaysia XME also got this update just now!!
Got an update this morning, just Nov security patch, no one ui 2.5 here in brasil

Rogers may be getting it today acording to the web site . Rogers, TELUS, Fido, Koodo, & Bell Android 11 update tracker (piunikaweb.com)
The updates will be released for batch wise, we do not have exact date when it will get the update.
Got above response when asked samsung on chat, kinda useless asking samsung, they should know. When asked why telus and rogers have dates not bell she didnt have a answer other than you will be notified when there is a update.

Question Dual eSIM support post QPR2 Beta 2.1

Can anyone confirm if this is active on their phone (especially from India)? I really would like to switch to eSIM for both slots but a bit reluctant.
Google Pixel 7 now has dual eSIM support after Android 13 QPR2 Beta 2 update
It looks like dual eSIM support has finally found its way to the Pixel 7, and could get a wide release with the upcoming Pixel Feature Drop.

It's working for some and not working for others. There seems to be a required server side update on the sim manager app in order for it to work.
It's not working for me and I'm very annoyed about it.
Thank you, guess will have to wait some more time.

But who exactly is it working for? I've seen one report and screenshot from a Reddit user. Everyone else I've seen test hasn't got it working. Back in October one person reportedly had dual eSim on this forum. So how do we know this isn't just another bug? I'd love it to be released in March feature drop, but I'm not holding my breath, so far I've seen no solid evidence that might indicate this, only hearsay and dubious "proof".
For what it's worth...

Thanks, but what does this mean? Google is slowly filtering out sim manager updates?

Seeing how I was the person who had dual eSIM here, it's more frustrating for me than others who didn't have it to begin with.
That said, there has been talk since just before release about Google releasing dual eSIM in the March update (they say Germany here but there's no reason they wouldn't drop it in the US where eSIM is actually useful) so here's hoping.

As a European, I can confirm not having dual SIM here is a PIA, I have sims for 3 countries in Europe and when I travel further afield, I get a temporary 4th. At least with a dual SIM tray you have flexibility, but the current pixel 7 is driving me nuts. I bought it knowing dual esim wouldn't drop until March, so the lost convenience of a dual SIM tray was factored in. I just hope it does actually drop.
Do you not still have dual esim then?

It's becoming more and more common for people to carry around multiple carriers here in the US too and eSIM is really taking off.
Nope, they took it away some time between October and December. I wasn't using it at that point so I didn't notice it was gone until I wanted to use it when I picked up a second eSIM again in December.
Anyone tried Beta 3 for dual eSim?

Taking with a pinch of salt since feature drop isn't due till march. That said, SIM manager app is not necessarily related to feature drop.
That also said, if this post on Reddit is reliable, SIM manager isn't what controls MEP (as the current SIM manager available for non Beta devices was updated in October and is Version D.2.1.473171966).
I successfully downloaded 2 esim profiles using Google Fi and Verizon. Works fine. Only flaw is can only have 1 active at a time. Using 1 esim and 1 physical sim, you can use data from one profile and calls and texts from the second profile.
