Nice. May I ask does Format data works reliably yet? (mean after Format data and flash rom, the phone won't automatically encrypt)

Finally!
Now I don't have to be afraid the phone will brick because of unknown sourced twrp from chinese.

I'm using the chinese one for months and it does not have any issues.
Until this has stable status or official status I'm more afraid of flashing this one

It's always asking for the password. Even though i did format data using that chinese twrp, when i flash this, it asks for password again.

Don't Flash stock ROM/ official ROM .

'boot ' fastboot command in lastest platform-tools won't work in that way.It assume the file is a KERNEL,not a whole boot image. This will only make device go blackscreen.Check the binaries' help before run this command!

I found a problem.
If I use WIPE to format internal storage in TWRP and still can't mount internal storage after rebooting recovery.
It will not be possible to copy ROM files properly.
If you restart the system, re-entering TWRP after a successful system boot will restore the system to normal.
I wonder if it can be fixed?

ask Decrypt password everytime I reboot to twrp.
Help!

*
*/[/I]
Note: Please be aware that you cannot install this without a kernel with LZMA compression support, I believe most ROMs have included my commit for this so you should be good for all custom ROMs and kernels. If not please file a request to the maintainer.
In addition, please be aware that TWRP is currently not compatible with Android 10. If you would like to use TWRP you will need to go back to Android 9. If you would like more information you can read at the link here.
Not a huge problem, stock users can just temporarily boot TWRP if you have access to a PC.
Not compatible with Android Q.
Pixel devices have 2 "slots" for ROMs / firmware. TWRP will detect whichever slot is currently active and use that slot for backup AND restore. There are buttons on the reboot page and under backup -> options to change slots. Changing the active slot will cause TWRP to switch which slot that TWRP is backing up or restoring. You can make a backup of slot A, switch to B, then restore the backup which will restore the backup of A to slot B. Changing the slot in TWRP also tells the bootloader to boot that slot.
Installation:
If you already have TWRP installed: Download the latest zip and install the zip using TWRP.
If you do not already have TWRP installed: Download both the img and the zip. You will need to have fastboot binaries and the correct drivers installed. Power off your device completely. Hold volume down and turn on the device. Your device should now be in the bootloader. Connect the device to your PC. Open a command window and run the following command from the proper location:
fastboot boot path/to/twrp.img
This will temporarily boot TWRP on your device. Use ADB or MTP to transfer the zip onto your device.
Go to install and browse to the zip and install the zip. The zip will install TWRP to both boot slots. Installing TWRP at this time will remove root if you are currently rooted.
If you accidently flash TWRP to your device using fastboot instead of temporarily booting the image, you will need to download the latest factory image for your device and reflash the boot image.
Changelog:
[BETA]
3.3.1-0: Initial release for Pixel 3A XL devices
3.3.1-1: Fixed having to manually change slots before rebooting.
3.3.1-2: Updated to July blobs!
3.3.1-3: Can now install TWRP to boot image. ADB, MTP, LOGD, Repack Tools and Logcat have all been removed to save the necessary space for this to work. You can grab stuff while in the OS, then flash it in TWRP (Keep in mind I have only tested this on stock as of now, feel free to test it on whatever ROM you use. It should work, but let me know if it doesn't).
3.3.1-4: Changed back to LZMA compression, also added back all the features besides ADB/Logcat. As long as your kernel supports LZMA you will be able to take advantage of installing it permanently without having to worry about space restrictions.
3.3.1-5:
Add persist entry to fstab
* To allow TWRP to store a backup settings file on /persist
and also to be used as QCOM time fix source during early boot.
Revert "Don't include logcat."
Revert "Don't include repack tools."
3.3.1-6:
Revert "Revert "Don't include repack tools.""
Add haptics firmware.
* This obviously on it's own isn't enough to get haptics working for the 3A in TWRP, but its a start.
Don't include a precompiled update_engine_sideload
* This should fix the issue of flashing officials for StatiXOS

Yeah, having some issues actually installing it to the boot image. Should be fixed rather soon, just decided to post. Maybe I shoulda waited a bit longer, idk.
So does anyone know if TWRP + Magisk work on Android Q for root?

I don't mind, I haven't flashed TWRP to a device since Treble came out, but it's easy enough to boot an image, so at least for my usage case, this is all I need

no you shouldn't have waited!! thanks a lot specially from all of us checking if twrp came out every day!
hey maybe you can give me a tip since i have a problem mounting otg:
when i boot twrp image if i go to backup/select storage i find a storage/usb partition (0MB)
when i connect otg (and go to mount) it becomes storage/usbotg 1 (12000MB)
but the problem is that if i click it doesn’t remain selected, and the log reports “Unable to find partition for the path ‘/storage’ ”
if i go to mount or backup/select storage and click usbotg 1 storage it doesn’t remain selected and the log reports “E: unable to locate partition for ‘/storage/usbotg-1’ ”
(i’ve tried also with different keys but i don't think it's the point anyway the 1st was an 256GB usb/SD and the 2nd a 16GB usbkey but logs reports same error)
any tip?
I'm on Q DP4. Anyone having luck flashing Magisk (canary)? In B slot it fails to mount system and vendor. I change to A slot. It completes. I reboot on A slot, I get stuck at Google starting logo and the phone never boots. If I attempt to boot B slot afterwards, it boots up fine, but I obviously don't have Magisk installed, verified with the Magisk APP.
Anyone have a clue?
Just to provide feedback.
Fastboot booted the image, it prompted for my pin, mounted system, and was able to backup properly, moved backup to computer.
Wiped the phone, reboot and went through setup, everything was working.
Back to twrp, adb pushed the backup to the phone, restored the backup and everything was functioning.
Also tested and was able to sideload flash Magisk.
So everything seems to be working as intended.
Thank you so much for your hard work!
My TWRP is NOT prompting for pin/pattern. That has to be part of this...
Wiped data via google recovery. The phone booted to Pie (i had previously did the OTA from Pie to Q beta 4). So now I'm back on Pie somehow (without reflashing). I booted to TWRP, installed Magisk successfully.
So overall, I'm not sure if this was related to Q beta 4 OTA occupying B slot while Pie still was on A slot.
Thanks to all for their work with TWRP!

On previous devices I have run into TWRP restore issues if I had a security PIN set on the device when I backed up. During your test did you have a PIN setup on the phone?

I had a pattern, not sure if it makes a difference between pattern and pin.
I will say the only thing weird i noticed was when i wiped the phone (the default wipe from twrp, not a full format of data from twrp), when i booted I was prompted for my pattern on first unlock before the device setup. Even though it was wiped.
But restoring was perfectly fine.

So just confirming - I am , I assume encrypted , as I have a PIN and a pattern with DU ROM. Can i safely backup the existing ROM and flash another and then be able to restore if need be using this version of TWRP?

Yes. This is how it has worked in the past. Don't see why it wouldn't work like this currently. If you flash a different vendor image or system image, you'll want to revert back before you restore your old ROM backup.

Thank you very much.
In OP (Install guide) there is an error because now "Download recovery-20190820.img" should be "Download recovery-20191120.img".
I install the twrp.img but am unable to boot in to twrp.
Any solutions?
Can't install arm64 Gapps. TWRP forces me to flash arm version but when I boot into LineageOS there are no Gapps at all.
This Is a pretty good build of TWRP but can't decrypt and doesn't install GApps (Shows arm instead of arm64)
Otherwise, works like a charm
does this handle decryption and can disable dm-verify?

You can only mount them with read only flag. It's super partition's limit.

Hi guys, new build (rev. 2) has been uploaded. Tested fastboot flash recovery is working.
The way to fix it is just appending recovery dtbo from official recovery. OTG might still not working. Source code has been updated.

Even with read-only flag? You could only mount system and vendor as read-only.
Do not try to Chmod 755 cause phone won't boot! even after ROM installed and rooted, do not do that with any file manager cause will stop the phone from booting!

Just don't do that if you are unfamiliar with AVB. You could disable this security feature by reflash vbmeta.img with disable verity and disable verification flag with fastboot. You can find more infomation on Google.

Decryption works fine.
First I chose [Mount]: System was not checked, Vendor had a checkmark. Then I unticked Vendor and tried to mount it again. But both aren't able to get mountet within rev.3.
Backing up System isnt working too.

Then check the result it printed and see if it mounts under /system_root
I also remembered that I flashed the miui rom for testing twrp, and after that I could mount both system and vendor. Could you have a try?
-----
Could you grab a logcat for me?
Code:
adb logcat > logcat.log

Decryption works fine.
First I chose [Mount]: System was not checked, Vendor had a checkmark. Then I unticked Vendor and tried to mount it again. But both aren't able to get mountet within rev.3.
Backing up System isnt working too.

Hi,
I mean logcat of TWRP, you can grab it on TWRP boot. ADB sideload is confirmed not working for now.
Could you try my latest build (rev.4) first? I rebased upstream source to see if it would fix system mounting issue for you.

great news - will be great when we can restore backups.
I just fastbooted boot to see if it did - and up jumped TWRP. I think I will wait until restoring comes out, unless it would be helpful to report any other issues - but think others would be way ahead of me.
Working for me. I did a backup and it seemed to work. Will not attempt to restore. Thanks.
Willing to test anything. Hit me up if you need a brain to pick. I helped get TWRP working on the OP6T
Thank you Billaids
this works for Nord N10 5G but it lacks touchscreen support, but you can still use the mouse if you have the right adapter. Although now you can't sideload because even if you unplug THAT it still prolly wants the other device instead.
nice work, i got mine carrier unlocked at best buy, will give it a go in the morning and see how things work
Nice job, but i willn't use it bcz backup restore feature is one of main recovery features wich don't works (for now).

I did same thing. You were in fastboot mode, so it's unresponsive. If you flash it, it should be responsive.

Okay that makes sense now that you say that. So I take it you've flashed it. And all is good, except backup and restore?

[CLOSED] [No longer maintained] [RECOVERY] [11] [OFFICIAL] TeamWin Recovery Project (8T / Kebab) (2022-03-09)

Introduction:
Team Win Recovery Project or TWRP for short, is a custom recovery built with ease of use and customization in mind. We started from the ground up by taking AOSP recovery and loading it with the standard recovery options, then added a lot of our own features. It's a fully touch driven user interface , no more volume rocker or power buttons to mash. The GUI is also fully XML driven and completely theme-able. You can change just about every aspect of the look and feel.
Key Features:
Touchscreen driven with real buttons and drag-to-scroll
XML-based GUI that allows full customization of the layout true theming!
Settings are saved to the sdcard and persist through reboots
Ability to choose which partitions to back up and which to restore
Ability to choose to compress backups now with pigz (multi-core processor support for faster compression times)
Onscreen keyboard
Easy selection of internal/external storage
In addition to the above new features, TWRP features a scripting engine that allows an app to send commands to the recovery for the recovery to perform during startup. We call this scripting engine OpenRecoveryScript. This engine will be put to use immediately in the GooManager app. GooManager will be able to install recoveries automatically for most supported devices. The app will also let you choose to install multiple zips from within Android, wipe, and run a backup.
We are looking for other talented developers, themers, and device maintainers if they are interested in helping with a free, open source project.

Hello, this is TWRP, for Oneplus 8T
Installation:
# To temporarily boot it
fastboot boot <twrp_file_name>.img
# Since 8T/9R has a separate recovery partition, you can flash the recovery with
fastboot flash recovery <twrp_file_name>.img
Updating to a newer build:
Simply flash the latest TWRP installer zip from TWRP
OR
Flash the img from TWRP/fastboot

FAQ and Known bugs of TWRP:
If you are planning to switch to a custom ROM, and are currently on OOS/H2OS, format /data, switch slot, reboot to TWRP and then sideload/flash the ROM + installer.
It's better to flash ROM + TWRP installer, if you want to keep your TWRP after flashing a ROM.
Don't format /data, after a flashing a ROM, before the first reboot.
It takes around 50s to actually boot into TWRP.
Ideal way to flash:
For OOS to Custom ROM - Format /data, switch slot, reboot to TWRP, sideload/flash ROM + installer, reboot to TWRP, flash Magisk/Gapps. Reboot to system.
For Custom to Custom ROM - Format /data. Flash ROM + installer, reboot to TWRP, flash Magisk/Gapps. Reboot to system.
For updating a custom ROM - Flash ROM + installer, reboot to TWRP, flash Magisk/Gapps. Reboot to system
For custom ROM to OOS - Format /data. Flash ROM + installer, reboot to TWRP, flash Magisk. Reboot to system.
PS: After formatting /data, until the first time the device is booted to system, the files you send to phone via MTP (USB) will be at /data/media, not at /sdcard
PS2: If, for some reason, you cannot send files to phone after formatting /data and rebooting to TWRP, press vol +, vol - and power button simultaneously.
PS3: Factory reset WILL NOT wipe internal storage.
Steps for backing up and restoring data in TWRP (Huge thanks to @BillGoss )
TL;DR for data backup on custom ROMs:
Backup /data (copy the backup folder to PC if you will format /data).
Flash the ROM and boot it once to system.
Restore /data (copy the backup folder back from PC if you formatted in step 1) and boot into system.
If you find any issues like missing navigation bar or blank screen or something, just do a normal reboot again to system.
System Backup and Restore
The "system" partitions on the OnePlus 8T are:
Boot
DTBO
Super which contains the logical system, system_ext, odm, product, and vendor partitions
Just backup and restore these partitions.
Do NOT backup/restore any of the logical partitions individually.
Data Backup
Make sure USB debugging is enabled
You do NOT need to remove your password
In TWRP
Backup: Select only the Data partition.
Reboot System
Restore
Remove the current password before starting the restore process by Settings>Security & Lock Screen>Screen lock: Select Swipe (if prompted tap on "Yes, remove")
If you don't do this, the system will not reboot properly after restoring.
This will also remove your fingerprint data and your lockscreen (encryption) password (you won't be prompted for a password in TWRP or when you restart the system)
In TWRP
Wipe>Factory Reset
Reboot System (this will rebuild the data partition)
Back in TWRP
Restore: Select the backup you want to restore
Remove the SIM card. If you don't do this the system won't boot properly.
Reboot system, making sure the phone is not connected to a PC
Notes:
At this point the phone will take longer than usual to boot - that's normal
You will be presented with a blank screen
Connect the phone to a PC. You should be able to see the phone using adb devices
Disconnect the phone from the PC
Hold the Power button down and select Restart
In System
Settings>Security & Lock Screen>Screen lock: set your password
Insert the SIM card
Note: Your fingerprints will have been restored because the backup was taken with the password set.

Amazing! My OnePlus 8T is arriving tomorrow. Perfect timing for TWRP, thanks a lot for the detailed instructions as I am going to need it.
I was flashing this twrp with the previous test_kebab twrp as flash .img. Choosing recovery partition and was thicking "install to both slots".
So far works good.
Bro, I'm happy for you. Great job.
@theincognito Though I am a fastboot flash guy at this point (honestly forgot how to even use TWRP after all this time), I appreciate all the work and time you (and apop) put in for this project. It's definitely going to make this device appeal to more Android enthusiasts as most are used to and prefer TWRP for flashing I've noticed. And that will lead to more development (hopefully) for the device. That seems to have been the case with previous devices I've owned that had TWRP available, but also had the fastboot method available.
Anyway, I have been up for like 32 hours, so if what I've said doesn't make much sense, sorry.
Thanks @theincognito for all your work and time, and I hope this brings more to the 8t community. Good job!
He has this. Again, great job. Glad folks now have a thread to come to for proper support

@YumeMichi Thanks a lot for this. I shall make a build with the AOSPA kernel and test on 8T. Should I release it here then, or do you wanna release for 9R?
