I've given up on this phone and selling it - Motorola Edge Guides, News, & Discussion

After a month and some time with this phone, I am thoroughly unsatisfied and plan to sell it. I'm going back to Sony phones. The phone is generally fine but I have some particular issues with it that I decided I actually do need. First the problems,
1. Can't comfortably hold the phone because of the curved screen. I can't seem to stop the phone from scrolling and jumping all over the damn place cause fo the curved screen. Even if I turn it off. Apps routinely switch and scroll randomly when I'm simply trying to read the screen.
2. It can find it's way to the bootloader in my pocket. This has happened 3 times now. I pull my phone out to see it's in the bootloader ready to flash something. I have never had a phone do this and there is no reason being in my pocket will lead to this. I'm blaming bad hardware and software UI for that.
3. Useless fingerprint sensor. Tried using it with a screen protector and could never actually work no matter how much I recalibrated.
4. Camera oversharpens and pictures come out blurry. I don't understand why this happens so consistently.
Other than that, I just miss premium features like AptX, high resolution audio, and a decent IP rating. I tried to give Motorola another chance but this was not it. Anyone interested in buying it from me? It has a 2 year geek squad replacement plan on it.

I'm sorry your having problems. I love mine and it works well at everything you listed negatives for. I have the zagg screen protector and my fingerprint works fine. I don't have random scroll issues. Sounds like a pocket issue, never heard of such a thing.

So you said that you miss AptX HD ? But have you look at what processor it is in your Motorola Edge ? The SD 765G has AptX Adaptive which means next generation of AptX . Take a look at Qualcomm's site before talking because even a little missunderstanding could get into making trouble on opinion to choose the right phone .
It can go almost as high as AptX HD and by almost I mean a difference of 420kbit/s to 576 Kbits on bluettoth and 24-bit / 48kHz sampling rate to 24bit / 96kHz sampling rate .
So in conclusion the AptX Adaptive is kinda of AptX HD but better in line by high res and better in audio latency but lower in high res over bluettoth.
And by the way if you don't have something like Sony XM3 or XM4 to activate the AptX either one it doesn't matter if it has it or not cause it will not use it .
Otherwise the LDAC codec by Sony is superior to any AptX existent by now . So if you want the ultimte high res experience I think you should choose a integrated codec on headphones like Sony's.
Get good buddy :good:

audio quality and camera quite a bit worse than razr m?

Different SoC's have different DAC's (Digital-to-Analog-Converters [Audio Chips]). Exynos, for example, has the awesome Wolfson DAC, which you can use the Voodoo Audio mod with. The Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 has a different, but still very good one. So yeah, it makes sense that this Intel one [probably] has a different DAC considering you're talking about an entire system on a chip. The camera, however is independent and has nothing to do with the SoC. So if Motorola decided to use a lesser quality camera on the i than the M, that was an independent decision.

Personal experience is that the i has a better camera than the M, but that both are mediocre. Kind of hilarious that the i had a dedicated camera button for a shoddy camera.

You're talking about Exynos 4412.
Don't confuse it with 4210 which has the worst audio chips ever made in mankind. (Yamaha)

I'm talking about the current-gen model. I've had the Epic 4G Touch when I was on Sprint (it had the Exynos 4210) and yes it was really bad (flat-sounding). I was trying to illustrate a point though.
maybe not quite as techincal as the gsmarena review but certainly not a 'poor' camera here

Can anyone that owns the Razr i please comment on the audio quality? I'm planning on buying this phone, but I listen to music on my phone for hours every day and am buying a new phone, because the audio connector on my Desire is bust. I'm only interested in the sound quality through headphones.
i've just compared it to the gnex. not great i'm afraid. quite a bit of 'hiss'. a few seconds after play comes to a stop, you'll hear a nasty 'clicking off' sound. not quite sure what it is but it is not there on the gnex. i really wanted to love this phone but audio quality is a let down. for that reason alone, i'll be sticking with my gnex and returning the i tomorrow
You've got to be kidding me, how hard can it be to get this right.
I disagree. I am not an audiophile but I find the sound pretty much as good as any other device I have had. There is hiss when not listening to anything but it seems to go away when I am listening to something.
Anyway, I really think its ok.

that is true, you'll only notice it on quiet areas of songs. but those same areas have no hiss at all on the gnex. i'm not trying to big up the gnex here but quality of audio output via headphones is pretty important to me and the hiss i find is unacceptable
Honestly I haven't noticed a hiss when listening to things. I mainly listen to podcasts which have lots of quiet sections and little music. I will turn my ears to the potential hiss next time my headphones are plugged in.

Just got my new XT890. Excellent phone. Have played some MP3s and haven't noticed any problem till now. This phone has much better sound quality than my previous Huawei. Also the results of sound measurement in gsmarena review are similar to those of HTC One X review:
I think the methods of sound quality measurements aren't very accurate and strongly depends on the environment, measuring equipment and event on the specific phone unit (I think such type of benchmarks should be repeated on several units to control convergence of results).

I'm not scientific with my sound reviews but from my personal experience my XT912 RAZR sounded "meh" quality.
My HTC One S sounded great, probably because of the whole Beats thing.
My RAZR i is on par with my HTC One S for sound quality.
This is all done from me driving around in my '97 Olds with a Cassette to MP3 adapter so take it with a grain of salt... but I am happy with the quality
Nice name by the way
Could it be, that only some handsets are affected? Because a few people complain about the quality, and a few say it's completely fine. And only one reviewer mentioned the problem. I had the obnoxious clicking sound when a track stopped on the Desire aswell, and I would really love, if the Razr i wouldn't have that problem. Could a beter set of headphones help? Me buying this phone is riding on this, because I really love it so far, a compact all-rounder, that has a lovely design, and is something special.

update: the tables have turned! i had a 2nd razr i delivered over the weekend. this unit has no noticeable 'hiss' as described above. not sure if the 1st unit was defective or something moto have amended in newer batches? either way i'm more than happy with the audio quality now on the replacement razr i and can fully recommend it to others. i'll be keeping the razr and returning the gnex yes the gnex is still marginally ahead audio quality wise. but the trade off with having a device that can store my entire music collection on removeable sd vs slightly lesser audio performance is well worth it imo.
both units were from reputable online retailers.
Oh dreaded Moto! Defy speaker problem repeats itself? Can you check serial numbers (and other info) on the stickers on both boxes? Perhaps they've different manufacturing dates.
it is not the loudspeaker. i'm talking about listening with headphones. i'll look at the boxes later at post back
Yeah, Defy problem wasn't exactly this one, but it was massive and annoying and moto had to admit the issue later.

nice read.
i agree that o2x is quite the killer pmp. only small downside is the damned stereo cross talk, but quite frankly i dont feel any absence of it, and gsmarena only rated the audio as "average" pff.
about voodoo though, its still not done, still.... so we have no features basically, just the amp, but it gets the job done.
PS i aproove your nickname

In all honesty I don't mind a little stereo crosstalk because in all seriousness you never in any other situation but headphones have two such isolated stereo channels. Also with gsmarena you need to keep in mind they've reviewed only the stock kernel I am going to see about getting some graphs and measurements of the O2X with voodoo.
It may not be done but its all I need/want I don't need to set bass boosts etc as its sound signiture is already close to that of my D1 I don't see myself ever wanting to use eq as it is I still haven't installed dsp pack for player pro.
The only things to be added here in the future is video playback with the HDMI out, scientific tests if I find a nice bit of free ware I can use to test range, accuracy etc, and possibly HDMI to coax splitter to steal the digital audio out for use with high end DACs. Right now in my eyes the O2X is the perfect platform for a high quality and very customized pmp.
An interesting read, We've got an old HTC hero and Tattoo and damaged advent vega kicking about that need a use, I'm also planning to get a nexus 4 so my o2x will need a use in 2 weeks. I've not used it much but the HDMI drinks battery so saying you might as well plug in the usb is a good idea. I might plug mine in to a TV in the bedroom and use it as a dlna and VOD player in there, it's a lot cheaper than buying a new dedicated device to do what could already do, may even see about a bluetooth media keyboard for it to control. I do still have my ipod classic that is easier to use but thats lasted 3 whole years so it's due a failure, at least with my o2x i could wipe it stick 32gb of memory in and load it with most of my music, could even make an adhoc network with my n4 when i get it to share the files on the memory card with it.

Definitely dedicate the O2X to media duties come upgrade then. I bought my O2X purely for media it is technically still functioning as a phone at the moment. But that is till I make my mind up on what phone I am going to next (my Xperia X10i got far to long in the tooth and a year at 20% OC has finally killed it haha). My rec is to use the Chuck Norris CM7 ROM because of the aroma installer which makes it really easy to remove everything that is not needed and if you remove the google apps suite too you can later add back google play from taesmaks CM7 rom.
Today I also discovered that the mic port on my laptop is **** ahaha went to run the rmaa tests but the amount of noise and distortion introduced by my mic port has rendered the tests useless. I will test again with my auzentech x-fi fote later on.

It's OT but whatever---
OC killing your X10i.
That is fairly interesting. I used Motorola Milestone as my personal phone since it came out till past november - roughly two and half yrs - and I had it OC'ed by some 45-50% most of the time [email protected],1GHz. But that was very okay. Yet as the end of lovely Milestone (heck I want qwerty CURRENT hi-end!) phone turned out damaged. It was the heat coming from CPU that damaged digitizer and screen.
I replaced digitizer but screen was too pricey for way old phone, so I did buy O2X... oh, well.
That said, Milestone still serves well as PMP for it has great music output and DLNA/remotecontroll (by app) capabilites. To be honest... actually... it serves the purpose here, as rather overkill alarm clock of sorts...
Thanks stonerboy, I'll give that ROM a look when the time comes. Could make an interesting at thing when it doesn't matter if it has some down time while i inevitably brick it. A simple ROM with good battery life that can take a 32 or 64gb sd card is all I'll want instead of forking out £200 on an iPod. Between my squeezeboxes at home and mw600 j don't think I'll be needing iPod docks anymore

Aren't you annoyed by the noise the phone generates? You can clearly notice it when a small notification sound is played: it's mute, than the sound is played, you hear a static noise, than it goes mute again (turns off amplificaiton, I guess).
This is not present on the iPod (which I also own a 32gb 4th gen). Also, the overall quality is way better, there's no "extra bass or loudness" that I can notice with the 2X. Not to mention the battery drain... in airplane mode, no wifi, bluetooth, whatsoever, it spends battery like crazy, by just playing music. The iPod in the other hand...

Not sure what is up with your phone but I have not experienced any noises, have even played a flat track with no sound at all that I made. When played and ampped to the max i have to strain to hear any static or hum. Battery wise its doing damn well and has plenty of battery life for me definitely at a level comparable or even better than my iPod. Guess i could do a side by side and just play music at the same listening level once on loudspeaker and once on headphones just to see which goes longer in each situation.
I haven't noticed anything specifically about sound and notifications but with voodoo sound you can turn of the sound focus setting which alter playback when notifications come through. My notifications are also set to play through the loudspeaker and never the headphones but i'll change it to headphones and see if i can recreate your issue but as for you battery drain issue i have no idea why its so bad for you.
Hell i was streaming spotify for a few hours yesterday and used very little battery and that was even with extreme quality streaming on, bluetooth left on from when i had the radio on and i even have an oc and uv going. Further more I have limits set and when my screen is of my cpu speed can only go so high and will only be using one core so that may be another reason why my battery is good.
Just throwing things out there at the moment.

Glad I could inspire some people to do the same
I am unsure about 64GB sdcard compatibility though, has anyone ever tried any 64GB micro sd cards with the O2X? I do remember looking when I was still deciding which phone I wanted to turn into a pmp.
Well this is insane.... as usual got the music going at work but this time I have headphones going with the FM radio in the O2X not using the loudspeaker. And after a nice hour and a half of use my battery has depleted only 1% yes 1% I didn't miss a zero or anything its quite literally insane. The class W headphone amp in the Wilson dac is beyond insanely efficient coupled with the fact my phone is probably ideling at 215mhz undervolted 50mv....
Wasted another 1-2% battery in the 5 mins I have been using cell data to write this up.
Either way I think tonight I will charge to 100% andthen leave the radio on all night so I can get a proper estimate of how efficient it is. The night after I will play a flac album on repeat with the music app. Will play another album on repeat in my iPod too as comparison. Day after that will compare spotify streaming for the night over wifi and extreme quality.
You can find tread about 64gb sdcard in general tread
Well just before Christmas my iPod died and i git a nexus 4, well timed upgrade and the perfect chance to do this so I've finally erased my o2x and reverted it to the stable cm 7.2. So far so good. I couldn't get the recommended chuck Norris rom to work so have just gone with normal cm and either uninstalled or disabled everything I don't want, the phone is so much nicer with nothing on it, it's the first time in 13 months the thing actually works.
Any suggestions for windows software to manage the music? I've always just used iTunes as I had an iPod, I looked the simplicity of it but now I can't copy everything only most of my music so need something to keep track of it

so i wanted to get your view on this one as you all have been using it.
how is the speed?
the camera (front and back both)?
is the touch good?
and now down to the more deep questions.
which variant should i buy? i wanna use all features. i wanna root. i wanna unlock the bootloader. i wanna do much more. so which variant is the best?
and does it have any problems like the g4 boot loop problem?
thanks alot for your help.

I recently purchased mine and I was really happy, particularly with the price I paid.
PROs
Decent CPU
Very good looking phone
NFC & microSD card slot ( couldn't find this on other phones in my price range)
Very well priced if you look around and are lucky
Rear camera is super quick, decent quality
Can be easily rooted, unlocked etc
Front camera is good but I haven't tested extensively (recipients have not complained)
CONS
Could do with more RAM - occasionally notice stutters when multi tasking that my mate's G5 doesn't do
Awkward NFC location, can be configured to work a little better with certain apps
Lacks IR but that's personal
Gets pretty hot during long games or sometimes long youtube sessions (I think it's a design flaw that the CPU copper plate dissipates heat into the LCD no adverse affects yet so it's a guess)
Battery life could be better but does enough to get your through the day if you try
Audio output from the 3.5mm jack is poor, haven't tested bluetooth
So I would say, if you can get it at a good price, go for it particularly if none of those cons matters. The biggest one for me the audio output but my first preference phone wasn't available so I had to take this one.
i got the x performance dual, i love this phone besides this one i would get the xz premium, this is the forst phone i didnt root and do all customr, camera sound battery screen its a great phone very happy with it.

If the XZ is priced similarly I'd get it. Also following up on my earlier post I did test Bluetooth in the car today and it actually works well really well. I'm very happy with it and it is much clearer than my previous phone which had a louder 3.5mm jack output. My car Bluetooth also doesn't support aptx or anything special. Also if you could get the dual SIM variant I'd go with that as 64GB would be awesome but I have my card filled with media anyway

[Discussion] 7 Pro - Features it's missing and why they don't matter

I've read a few articles or discussions bringing up feature that the 7 pro lacks, often times mentioning that individual items by themselves are deal breakers or several together might lead someone not to buy it.
Here are some of the ones I've seen the most, and why they really aren't a big deal
No 5G - 5G is still in its very early days and won't see widespread adoption for several more years. If you're not in one of the top 10 cities, don't be surprised if it you don't see it before the 7 pro's hardware is obsolete anyways. With all the new 5G phones coming out soon, the number of people that upgrade to them will skyrocket and likely over-saturate the available 5G networks, bogging down the purported speed benefits. Further, 4G LTE hits more than adequate speeds anyways. 99% of what anyone does on the internet isn't going to require more than 10Mbps connections. Some video streaming might require more than that, but I've seen 4G tests hit nearly 100Mbps (consistent, not spike speeds), so it is more than capable of handling what people throw at it. Cellular providers limit video streaming in most cases to 720p resolutions anyway.
Even the advertised latency improvements aren't a big deal. The only area where super low latency makes a significant difference is online gaming, and 4G already hits sub-50ms latency. I've personally played FPS games with a latency anywhere from 100ms - 2000ms (<- not a typo) many many times before, and rarely noticed even 200ms negatively affecting my game.
No WiFi 6 - Again, a young technology which won't see widespread adoption for several more years (many public wifi spots don't even have AC yet), and promises unnecessary speed improvements. 4K content can be easily streamed through a wireless N router with no buffering.
No wireless charging - This may be more of a preference, but the way I see it, wireless charging limits you in exchange for essentially no benefits. You can't move your device around while it's on the charging mat, unless you also pick the mat up with it and hold them together; plus, it's slow. Plug in your phone and you can easily pick it up and continue to use it while it's charging. One of the big "benefits" to wireless charging that gets touted around a lot is "removing the hassle of plugging in". Well, the charging mat still needs to be plugged in, and plugging a cable into your phone takes literally one second. With the battery life phones are advertising these days you almost never have to plug in before going to bed anyways. Seriously, what is the point of wireless charging?
No IP rating - Oneplus has done a great job of waterproofing the phone already, and adding an "official IP rating" doesn't magically improve its existing water resistance. There are several water videos on youtube already, with one going as long as 30 (broken up) minutes in a water bowl. Another shows that 2 days after their test the phone is still working fine. TBF, there is one video which shows the phone gets water inside it after a period of time, but that is at a depth of 1.5m (approx 5ft), and water pressure increases with depth (ie water works harder to get in the deeper it is). Throw the most water proofed phone into the bottom of the ocean and I guarantee it will get flooded. The companies that do provide an IP rating for their phones don't cover water or dust damage anyways. Outside of walking in the rain most people will be keeping their phones dry, so this really is not a big deal in the least.
No 3.5mm jack - OK maybe I lied just a tad in my title, as this is kind of a big deal since there aren't any good alternatives yet.
No SD Card slot - The storage options available for the phone are already pretty good. With most media consumption now being streaming, high storage capacities don't seem quite as important (I don't need to tote around my 50GB+ music collection, I can stream off YT, Spotify, even set up a home streaming server), and there are several good cloud storage options available (mega for one gets you up to 50GB for free).
Well, that about sums up this post. Obviously a large part of choosing which phone to buy is preference and subjective, but I think that at least these complaints against the phone are virtually unfounded (with the exception of the headphone jack of course )
I pretty much agree, the only convenience of wireless charging is that different phone types can use the same charger for example Samsung and an iphone can wirelessly charge on the same pad with no need for specific cables.

It's a great phone, the first OP phone I have ever owned. I've always used Iphone and Samsung S/Note series before. But to me the camera is very important in a phone since I take a lot of pictures and even though I tried to make the pictures better with GCam and upgraded to latest OOS, I still think the camera is weak compared to the "flagships". Maybe the camera will improve one the next device but if it doesn't I plan to switch back to Samsung.
Can we expect to see the a 7T pro model with some of these features?
Or will the "T" model be the 7 Pro 5G with no other new features except 5G technology?
I'd love to have pocket mode back. Too many times it has become unlocked in my pocket for unknown reasons.

Personally, I am in the "don't want to have to mess around with dongles" camp. One of the huge pluses to the 3.5mm Jack is it just works. I've read a few reviews of various dongles that say they don't work with certain phones. Compatibility was never a problem with the 3.5mm

I haven't really followed OP in the past so I'm not sure what kind of improvements/changes they typically make for their T model, but I had been under the impression that the 5G would be a separate model from the T
No Wireless Charging: I feel like no wireless charging on a glassbacked device is a big FU, No reason to drop metal unibody for weaker glass only to cut costs and raise profit margins the same reason no wireless charging included, "The whole it's slow" is a bs excuse, Xiaomi proved that with 20w wireless charging on the Mi 9.
No 3.5mm Jack: Why remove the universal audio port??? Again no reason, No alternatives only to push there crappy accessories. Why should we be forced to re buy headphone etc when our current headphones work fine? Also to touch on the charging point now as we have no headphone jack we have 2x the wear on the Type C port so wireless charging could of helped with that to migrate the wear and improve longevity.
No SD Card Slot: Again no reason to not include a dual SIM + Micro SD, Another reason to get you to buy higher priced UFS storage instead just like Apple does it. Other devices had no problem including a hybrid dual SIM.
I'll add another of my own
No 3.5mm Jack adapter: How can you remove the headphone port and then make you pay $12.95 for an adapter which is only passive so they cost nothing to make you can buy them from China for like 30 cent each. So think the cost to make it it's nothing to them yet they can't give us one in the box...

Sd card not needed due to fast ufs storage 3.0. headphone jack - time to move on. . 5g and wiFi 6 . It sounds nice to have now just to feel a false sense of future proofing . But by the time these speeds become useful the rest of this phone will be outdated and most people would of moved on to the OnePlus 10pro. I started a whole thread about the disadvantages of the OnePlus 7 pro and th conclusion from everybody is that this phone offers everything somebody needs now and as a bonus at a fantastic price and for a very long time.
I find two very important items missing in the One Plus 7 pro
1) Notification Light

Why do you feel it's time to move on from the headphone jack? You can get incredible sounding audio from it, it's royalty free (maybe USB-c is too? idk), any connector made to fit into the jack will just work, and no need for dongles or adapters. I've seen reviews on many usb-c headphones that they don't work with or aren't fully compatible with various devices
I agree with the other points though

To me the wireless charging falls under the "bells and whistles" category; completely unnecessary, but convenient in specific instances. Your phone is still "tethered" to a specific spot; even more so than plugging in because you can't even pick the phone up or charging stops. Maybe it is becoming faster, but what I had read online indicated it was slower than wired charging.
I agree with the audio port issues. Very upsetting they removed it, and couldn't even include an adapter!
At first I thought it was just a blind copy of what apple did (far too much of that going on I think; from the headphone jack, display notch {I personally prefer full-on bezels over any type of notch/cut out/hole punch}, overall design trends {a lot of phones might be mistaken for iPhone at a quick glance these days}), but now I think it's just a money grab
SD cards I think are far less necessary these days with the increased storage capacity of the phones
BTW I like your profile image ? lol

Red would be cool. I'm surprised they didn't make one!
Have there been any cases of apps using the front camera to spy on people? I hadn't heard of anything like that happening
for headphone jack, try a Bluetooth DAC such as Fiio's btr series. It is very likely better audio quality plus you dont have to tangle the wire since the dac is small and you can just clip it on your clothes somewhere.
I have btr3 and its awesome. All Bluetooth codec supported and sounds great. There are cheaoer options and they are good too.

Not that im aware of. But Ive always covered them on my tablets and now some devices like the echo show 5 come with a slider to cover it.

Again AptxHD Missing again worst experience!

Even the latest Exynos 1000 doesn't support AptxHD and so the snapdragon variant. It's really bad to see that samsung is selling these phones at very high price and offering nothing when it comes to a premium software and hardware experience. No doubt samsung expensive phone looks good outside but what about inside?
Samsung did not implemented A/B partition in any of their phones. Samsung doesn't offer Aptxhd even with snapdragon variant. Samsung phones exynos phones heat-up so much. HDR looks washed out. They reduced the screen resolution from Qhd to Fhd in s21 and s21+. Even S8 has Qhd resolution. They also removed charger and reduced the price about 200usd but in India the price is still higher compare to S20 launch price.
They removed heart rate monitor and iris scanner with S10 and Note 10. Now with S21 they reduced screen resolution to Fhd. Is this a joke?
The software experience is really bad so the hardware. Oneui 3 looks half baked. Samsung own apps still don't have unified UI. Even with Oneui 3.0 some apps look bad and ugly. In samsung apps i never saw optimizations but always ads. Take game Launcher as an example.
The finishing of their phone is bad. Color of their phone wear outs with few scratches.
I have Used Note 3, Note 4, Note 9 and now S21. My experience was always bad. After 1-2 days of purchasing phone i always regret.
No amount of ram can make Samsung phone snappier. No matter how fast screen refresh rate is. It always feel jittery compare to ios 60fps.
I'm going to switch Oneplus or IPhone.
I wish i could return this S21. Worst experience ever. By bye Spen. I want peace not Exynos Crap.
It supports LDAC and LC3. The AptX complaint is valid, its just a licensing cost they dont want to deal with for legacy headphones/earbuds.
I am confused as to why you have purchased another samsung device after so many bad experiences with them in the past though, Joy of android is multiple vendors with their own quirks.
Cool. Thanks for letting us know.
The missing support for AptX-HD is valid complaint. Worse it's the chipset that doesn't support it; no firmware can ever fix it.
LDAC is inferior to AptX-HD.
That's my biggest complaint with the 10+ and Samsung continues deliberately making the same chintzy decision on their flagship phones.
Seems Samsung is too preoccupied pouring money and resources into their floundering Fold project(s).
No bt future proofing here... thanks for nothing Sammy.
And it's not like Samsung didn't know*... lame as it gets.

How is LDAC inferier to AptX-HD? LDAC is 300-990/96/24 AptX-HD is 576/48/24. But support for LC3 essentially makes all AptX codecs useless asides from maybe AptX-LL on the Ultra at least. Another push to get people on tier up for 5.2 support I suppose.

I wonder how LDAC would handle an HDCD?
Would it incorporate the subtext as a higher resolution thru put or stay at 16 bits (max resolution of about 22 bits)?
The HDCD was developed by Denon who have been audio innovators for over a century.
At any rate LDAC 20 khz cutoff makes it wholly useless for open air stereo/multichannel applications ie bt speakers.
It destroys the sound stage.
For headphones with no interaction between the higher frequency audio waves in open air this is irrelevant so potentially ok except for its other issues.
Lol, I trust Sony as much as I do Samsung which is not at all.
By removing the 3.5 mm jack Samsung boned us while claiming to be helping us out.
Using the c port as an audio jack is a sick joke.

They're not using any audio drivers; it's purely electronic, a spectrum analyzer.
Great sound from LDAC depends on being able to use 990kbps or at least 660.
However even at 990 it's not hi-res and unsuitable for open air bt speakers as it with severely degrade the sound stage. Bt speakers aren't a viable option for hi-fi. You need a hard wire or toshlink fed (for self powered studio monitors) from high resolution DACs (amp/preamp).
For buds and headphones LDAC is useless if it defaults to 330. Will it throughput at a minimum of 660 preferable 990 without stutter on Samsung devices?
Even less information is available for SSC.
Perhaps LDAC is a good upgrade from SSC but in reality may not sound any better, drivers aside.
SSC works very well on the Samsung phones but isn't close to what a hi res hard wired solution sounds like.
Not encouraging. I'm not in the mood for a $180+ LDAC audio testing experiment...

Link works for me, shows Audeze preferring LDAC over Apt-X. Seems Apt-X is actually not great.
Edit: Scrolled up: Microsoft invented HDCD, not Denon, Sony created the widely used SACD standard. Sony also did walkman and continues to put some of the best audio hardware in their phones compared to the rest of the market.
You seem bitter, bro.
Edit2: Ldac sounds better than aptx-HD even at 330. It doesn't "depend" on anything.

Tried that link twice and it wasn't a hyperlink...
Yes it was Pacific Microsoft... my bad.
AptX-HD isn't a variable bit-rate codec, LDAC is.
So how it will perform on the Samsung is a crap shoot especially if you're limited to 660 kbps, if it degrades to 330 than even SBC is better.
The LDAC noise floor is all screwed up at 660 and below.
With open air stereo drivers it sound like dog meat; not high resolution even at 990.
I'm bored with the bt bs.
None of the bt codecs are high resolution.
There is one other codec Samsung failed to put in all Notes except the Note 8, Samsung UHQ-BT.
Samsung Level On PRO
Bluetooth A2DP Audio Codec Compatibility for Mobile Devices, Headphones, and Speakers
bluetoothcheck.com
It's only supported on two Samsung audio devices. This is one of them. About $178
Samsung Level On PRO Bluetooth Audio Codecs
Samsung Level On PRO Bluetooth Audio Codecs
bluetoothcheck.com
For my 10+ no support.
Bluetooth compatibility of Samsung Galaxy Note10+ with Samsung
Bluetooth compatibility of Samsung Galaxy Note10+ with Samsung Level On PRO
bluetoothcheck.com
So there's that... if you don't read carefully you might think they do support UHQ-BT on their newer phones per Samsung's own releases.
Samsung has employed being cryptic with specs and confusing details for years between its model variants. Even carriers have fallen victim to this occasionally posting the wrong specs for their US variant.
It's quit self serving for Samsung marketing; something for every consumer, even if they don't have it.
While the newer Samsung's don't support UHQ-BT, they do support digital UHQ through the C port. Is it worth potentially busting your C port to listen to high res music?
Probably not but that's your only option for high resolution output.
It was much better when they had the builtin DAC and the 3.5 mm jack on the bloody top of the phone where it should be.

They really are great for calls and music sounds pretty good especially if you use Poweramp and it's equalizer to dial them in.
The bt hookup is near seamless on a Samsung.

Spot on. My conclusion is all bt codecs are inferior. Their specs including noise floor suck.

IMO it's more like Bluetooth sucks in general. I mean CDs are like a 40-year-old technology, and the uncompressed data rate is only about 1.4Mbps. Why on earth is handling that kind of data still a challenge in this day and age?! All of these third-party hacks, lossy recompression, and 'standards' with spotty support shouldn't be necessary in the first place.
