Guide me please - Redmi K20 Pro / Xiaomi Mi 9T Pro Questions & Answe

Hey, so first of all sorry for making a long post and I might repeat things for which there may be threads so sorry in advance regarding that, so moving on ,I just bought k20 Pro, while miui is awesome , I'm thinking of switching rom, but can't do it rn as I'll be traveling soon and don't want to risk bricking my phone, I'll do it asap after I return (in 1 week) so my questions are:
1) How to unlock bootloader?
2) How to flash recovery ? And which one , I've always used TWRP on earlier device, but some ppl I see here say Orangefox.
3)I know how to flash a ROM, but what is the vendor everyone keeps telling to flash and should that be flashed everytime installing new rom?
4) Do you lose support for hd in prime and Netflix after flashing rom? If yes how to bring it back (if possible ).
5) ROM recommendation! I've used Lineage os on my previous device, so close it would be good, recommend something which is stable and fast , I don't use much customisation, and should be close to stock Android, as less bugs as possible.
6) Anything I need to know about the device? Something which will help me in future.
Note:i I've upgraded to Miui 12 so please try base answers on that version. I have Indian version of phone.
Thank you to the folks reading this and answering!!

Here's a guide to unlocking the bootloader. This is from the official MIUI global forums.
https://c.mi.com/thread-2262302-1-0.html
Stick with TWRP. Get it from here
https://forum.xda-developers.com/k2...icial-twrp-xiaomi-redmi-t3944363/post79823568 get the latest version. Orange Fox is a good choice of you stick with MIUI or a MIUI based custom ROM. Otherwise TWRP is the better option. Flashing instructions are there. You shouldn't need to flash the vbmeta patcher.
Check out my guide here, read the thread as some of your questions are answered there including a basic overview of vendor and firmware.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/k20-pro/how-to/simple-guide-flipkart-owners-t4151007/post83329343
If you are used to LOS, then you may as well stick with that. It's as stable as any ROM for this phone.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/k20-pro/development/rom-lineageos-17-0-t3976469/post80406191
If you stick with Indian firmware and vendor, you should keep widevine L1.
If you get in a mess, follow this guide from the official MIUI forums to restore the phone with a fastboot ROM.
https://c.mi.com/oc/miuidownload/detail?guide=2
You will need to view this page in desktop mode, if viewing on a mobile.
You can get the latest MIUI fastboot ROM from here.

Moving from Lineage Os Back To Miui

Hi there, when I got my Mi5, six months ago, I've used Miui for a week, but soon as I can I switched to Lineage OS, because I was used to Google Stock I had on my previous smartphones (Nexus, OPO).
Now I would like to try the new miui (probably xiaomi.eu or miuipro), and my question is: I need to take some precaution or I just go in TWRP, wipe all I need to wipe, flash the miui 9 rom, magisk (I need root) and reboot the phone? Is that all?
Same if I would came back to LOS? Wipe data/system/dalvik/cache flash LOS, Gapps, eventually magisk and I'm done?
Or something more is needed when moving from MIUI to LOS and viceversa?
Thanks, I've tried miui 9 on a Mi 5x and now I'm really interested in try that again on my Mi5
@maicasajusta flashing LOS or unofficial Miui versions is pretty straightforward!
In case you need to go back to LOS, sometimes it's required you flash a dev firmware...
so in case you get the Error 7 message, here's the link

that's exactly what I wanted to hear, thanks! yeah, I'm aware of error 7, I got it in one of the update of LOS and solved just as you said
Keep back this thread just so ask: what if I want to move back to MIUI GLOBAL (Stable/Beta), from LOS, and viceversa? I've read that there's some risk to relock the bootloader, is that true? I would love to try the new notification shade.
Thanks.
u neeed to wipe internal for installing los 15 from miui official
for miui9 can be flashed via miflash tool
also i'd suggest try masik miui/ miui x over the above two. Updated a little less regularly but far more stable and polished compared to the others

Official ROM? Yes. EU? No. So just flash EU if you want to try MIUI and still be able to switch ROMs easily.

Looking for a *stable* ROM

Hey guys!
I'm a very recent owner of Mi 9T Pro (less than 24h remaining until unlock becomes available). I'm also a recent consumer (if that's the right word for it) in the custom ROM scene. About a week ago I decided to check out LineageOS 16.0 on my old (Android 4.4.2) phone, and I was blown away by the performance improvement. It really gave my old device a second wind.
So when it comes to my new Mi 9T Pro, the long term strategy is almost certainly to install the official version of LineageOS 17.0 as soon as it becomes available (if at all and boy do I hope it does). However, since the official release might be (as I understand) several months away, it leaves me with a time window to use some other ROM until then. I've checked out LineageOS 16, 17, HavocOS 2.8, 3.0 & Pixel Experience ROM threads in this forum. It appears they all have some or other issues.
And this is where I was hoping to get a suggestion from you guys. What I'm interested in is the most stable ROM currently available for this phone. To be more clear, I'll illustrate what I mean by "stable":
1) Novelty not required.
It doesn't have to be Android 10 necessarily. Stability > novelty.
2) Most commonly used features take precedence.
I would certainly prefer a lag-less UI and no issues with signal reception over working NFC and Bluetooth audio (all 4 issues seem to appear with some regularity in mentioned threads).
Well, that's basically it, I hope you get the gist of it. If not I'll be glad to clarify further.
Just to be clear, I'm really not looking for a perfect solution where there is none. Just the least painful one. MIUI is not an option.
Thank you!
P.S. Sorry if this is a dup. I only managed to find a handful of outdated questions (~2 months old) which had very little engagement to begin with.
I use crDroid 5.8 (5.9 build does not work with global fw &vendor) and all the android 10 ROMs besides LOS 17 have broken NFC and BT .. And los 17 is also not perfect. Slows down after a while. We just have to wait till every K20 Pro / Mi 9T Pro version gets stable MIUI 11. Right now android 10 is not daily drive ready.
I'm using Résurrection Remix with the same build for over 2 month (the last one), and i dont have any bug.
I'm dtarting to have some troubleshootings after 2-3 weeks and it only require to restart to get fixed.
Also i'm not a big user of the phone so at the end of the day there is 70% battery left!

First of all, thank you for your input!
But what about Android 9 based ROMs like LOS16, Havoc-OS 2.8, Pixel Experience etc.? Wouldn't they be more stable based on the fact that Android 9 was already out (for quite some time) when K20 Pro was released? And also because the developers have simply had more time to iron out the issues?

I have basically tried every rom there is on this forum, and multiple vendors, roms later, i can suggest that EvolutionX, Pixel experience plus (pie are both pretty stable. But they have minor issues. Definitely daily driver material.
But! in my suggestion, if you could stick to a debloated MIUI. It would be hassle free.
Pros for using the stock rom.
Fingerprint sensor works faster
Doesn't break safetynet, so.. google pay support.
widevine L1 in other cases.
And most importantly, the camera functionality doesnt break

Thank you very much for your (somewhat unexpected) suggestion!
To be honest, I hadn't really considered debloating, but I will most certainly look into it. Are there some preferred debloating solutions out there?

Follow the steps in the Removing Bloatwares in Locked/Unlocked Bootloader part of the first post in this thread: https://forum.xda-developers.com/k20-pro/how-to/redmi-k20-pro-firmware-10-3-8-0-9-6-13-t3939647
True, MIUI has way faster and better fingerprint recognition than all custom roms. Sadly I hate MIUI look and feel...
If you want to give MIUI a try, install the xiaomi eu ROM, which is pretty clean and without much preinstalled stuff.
Best is not to use the custom ROMs with ALL the features, since those ROMs are more laggy and buggy.
So if custom ROMs, try android 9 based. I will flash android 10 again only after 2-3 builds which use MIUI 11 firmware and vendor, since I do have a global K20 Pro/ Mi 9T Pro and don't want to lose DRM L1 or NFC by flashing IN or CN fw and vendor. Because most android 10 ROMs require MIUI 10 android 10 fw and vendor (and there is no global MIUI 10 android 10 fw & vendor)
So depends after all, how much you hate MIUI.
I flashed a custom ROM because of the following things
clean stock UI
no gapps
better everyday performance

So.. the simple trick is to flash chinese vendor miui 10.3.16..
Mine in an indian unit.. and flashing any vendor except the chinese one gives me some sort of error or bootloop..
So.. my process is..
1- unlock bootloader
2-flash recovery (orangefox or twrp)
3- boot into revovery
4-wipe system
5- flash vendor
6- flash rom (gapps if necessary)
7- wipe cache
8- reboot

I guess so.. and sorry brother.. i dont use telegram..
I'd suggest you stick to global vendor..
If it doesn't work, then try chinese..
Widevine is not an issue for me.. but you might stream HD content.. so.. look into it..
And i forgot to mention... Always format data before rebooting.. format data is different from wipe data.. keep that in mind..
You should stick to the process.. it should go flawlessly..

Question What is the best MIUI stock rom ?

Hello everyone I would like to ask a few questions and know your opinion on the different stock versions of the redmi note 10 pro which one would advise me. which would be the most stable with the fewest bugs. I ask you this because I am afraid to reinstall twrp having already bricked my phone once. I had to go through unbrick.ru it's expensive for a simple unlocking I want to say
Indonesian version with long temporary update and stable, but now i stick with miui Pulse.
As long as you thoroughly follow a up-to-date, precise guide on how to flash TWRP and then flash a new ROM, you should be good. Just don't do something tricky with your phone if you have a doubt and that you don't know. Stock MIUI ROMs are, in my opinion, not as good as Xiaomi.eu ROMs or AOSP based ROMs. You'll have to debloat everything, there'll be ads in system apps and less features (depends on the region). Really, you should try flashing TWRP and use Xiaomi.eu. Moreover, a "brick" can in most cases be solved because, if a ROM flash doesn't work as it should, or even something else, you still have your TWRP to fix your phone.
(of course, don't do it if you know you're not attentive enough and that you won't be following guides steps minutely)

Question Can I flash mojito when im on rosemary with my bootloader unlocked?

The development of the rosemary is slow and I wanna install evolution x, but the unofficial version is only for mojito/sunny. Im scared that its going to brick/softbrick my phone if I do this. Will it brick if I install an official rom with mojito from xiaomifirmwareupdater?
Incompatible. Bad idea.
What would happen?
Is it a instant brick? Or will it be very buggy and slow? I only want to this due to there not being a supported twrp version for rosemary, and no custom firmwares. And no custom recovery. Only twrp version is for engineers and developers.
A ROM built specifically for another device won't work. If you want a custom ROM on Rosemary I would suggest learning about flashing GSI ROM using fastboot until ROMs specific to Rosemary are built which currently there are none that are released here on XDA
Does unofficial twrp have a rosemary twrp? Also does it increase fps? Im trying to get a light one like corvos. Since I have to be cautious cause my older device bricked when trying to install a custom rom
Yes unofficial TWRP is being built for Rosemary but it is in very experimental beta stage and is under heavy development. It will not give you miraculous fps increase
A slight one? Or just no? If no then il still check it out.
Should I use twrp? Or might it brick my device, or is it ready to install and factory reset?
Im not very experienced with mods all I need is a custom rom, root, twrp or a custom recovery and a custom boot screen. Does GSI give a custom boot screen? Or is it very slight changes?
Woah! It looks very nice, but, no custom recoveries? Stable? Or just twrp under heavy development?
If you are a novice do not install anything that is beta. To answer your main concern regarding FPS, the hardware is still the same regardless of ROM or TWRP.
Your options are limited to:
1. [Minor Factor] Google how to debloat MIUI using adb. This will free up resources marginally but not affect your fps by much
2. [Major Factor] Your FPS count is limited by how much heat is trapped causing the GPU+CPU to throttle. Cooling the phone while gaming like an attachable fan can work like it does on ROG phones. Get creative on cooling your phone rather than bricking a perfectly working one
Yes I know, but I find twrp easier than adb and fastboot tools. Its ok if it doesnt give me more fps, the important thing is that it doesnt decrease.
All I need is a custom recovery now. Do you recommend anything? Or there arent any?
https://unofficialtwrp.com/twrp-3-5-2-root-redmi-note-10s/
Is this the same twrp posted on this form? Or is it a 3.5.2 that is stable?
No official TWRP exists yet for Rosemary.
My suggestion is to wait until official TWRP recovery is made available. Keep a watch on the sub-forum for this device for any official news and releases until then
I used unofficial twrp on my samsung. That worked fine. Do all releases on unofficial twrp have to be stable? My samsung never bricked. So should I give it a shot and let you know? Also, do I need to flash disable encryption? with unofficial?
I dont know fi this sounds dumb but, im quite a noobie so, Does verify opt encrypt have to release for different phones? Or can I just flash the one on sourceforge?
STOP REPLY TO THIS THREAD !!! IT IS BULL**** !
Please moderator, close this !!!!
Dude, stop being so harsh im new to this stuff,
anyways, does this work as a gsi rom for rosemary? https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/gsi-unofficial-11-pixel-experience-pixel-experience-plus.4269051/
SO IN A NUTSHELL, NO CUSTOM RECOVERY FOR THIS DEVICE?
You can't flash roms meant for different devices with different hardware, it will brick your device. It sounds like you don't know much about the processes so I suggest you start by reading some of the many great guides on the XDA forums first.

General Best Custom Rom to replace the bad MIUI

Hi all
I think after the bad MIUI 13 update , it is clear that we will not be able to use the full potential of the hardware without any bugs .
So I hope that we will be able to flash a custom Rom soon .
For me ColorOS will be very good
Please share your opinion .
I share your frustration with MIUI and am also patiently waiting for anything.
I have tried a few GSI roms without successfully booting, now I'm on xiaomi.eu rom and the frustration is making me think about switching to my old phone with PixelExperience on it. The experience is way smoother.
I would be happy with AOSP though since it's a nice starting point for any ROM development/porting. I wonder if someone is already working on it.
amen to that. anything but this chinese bull****. hope something good comes out soon

xiaomi.eu miui13.0.4 is the best for MI 11t pro. u dont even need twrp just unlocked bootloader. the bat file will flash itself. its based on global but its way ahead. less rom usage, no ads, less storage usage , custom dialer and boot mode, can use themes from outside and a lot more. i m using it now on my 11t pro. u wont find anything better i bet.
