[Splash] Boot Splash Screens for the Nokia 6.1 (PL2) + How-To [Guide] - Nokia 6.1 (2018) Themes, Apps, and Mods

Custom boot splash screens that I made from pictures that I thought were befitting, for the Nokia 6.1 (2018). These were tested on the stock Pie and Q firmwares.

Method (Shout-out to adeii for this post):
Get your stock splash image from your stock firmware or using dd (caution!!!!!). This, in most cases, will be a bitmap following a header and followed by a footer.
Open it with a hex editor(I used wxHexEditor). Search for the bytes "BM" ("42" in hexadecimal), denoting the start of a bitmap image. Copy out the portion from the beginning of the file till there and save it somewhere.
At the end of the splash image file, in my case, were some zeroes. The header in my case was just full of zeroes, so I thought that the zeroes at the end would be the footer. It turned out that that assumption was right. It also turns out that it doesn't make a difference to the PL2 if the footer is missing.
If you do need the footer, and it isn't so easy to identify, then I'm sorry, I cannot help. One thing you can try is to remove the header, and then try identifying the footer by trial-and-error; you'd know if you cut off part of the image because then part of your bitmap image would be missing
Find the image you want as a splash screen and crop it to the resolution of the device. Figure out the color depth and format of the bitmap you extracted from the original splash. Save your image with the same parameters as your original, as a bitmap (*.bmp) image. For example, I had to save my images as 1080x1920 bitmaps, with RGB color format and 8-bit precision.
Create your new splash image as follows: header, bitmap, footer (if you really need it). I used dd for this (again, caution!!!):
Code:
{ dd if=<header>; dd if=<my bitmap image>; dd if=<optional footer>; } | dd of=new-splash.img
Flash to the device's splash partition!!!:
Code:
fastboot flash splash new-splash.img
To install a new splash image to the active slot:
Code:
fastboot flash splash <new splash.img>
To restore original splash images (to the active slot), in case anything goes wrong:
Code:
fastboot flash splash [URL="https://drive.google.com/file/d/18DsuyIsU3QxaGEx5589QlwOxAx1kX452/view?usp=sharing"]splash.img[/URL]
Code:
fastboot flash splash2 [URL="https://drive.google.com/file/d/1sv32qX0V6CJ8Qc0CRVbR8uQ5FD-uYwIv/view?usp=sharing"]splash2.img[/URL]

Thank you for the information.
I used the information to create a simple boot screen myself.

I can't boot to CM Recovery 1.4.
But I can boot to the SPL (Three Skateboards with white Screen)
I have a white G1 specs are:
* 8GB ADATA SD Class 6
* Partioned at: 2GB EXT 2 32MB Swap Rest FAT32
* I am updated on the newest radio and the SPL.
* I am running Cyan 4.0.4
The Scenario:
I was playing COD5 on PS3. I went to Ifap.to on phone while it was on Wifi. So then I was trying to skip through the video and the phone obviously froze up and then it shut off and reboot itself. It never got past the T-Mobile G1 screen.
Then I tried to go to recovery by holding home + power and it doesn't work. So I held down power + camera and it goes to the three skateboards so I know I'm not bricked(not yet) What can be the issue and what would I have to do to fix this.
Please email me or post here whichever is convenient to you.
Thanks,
I WILL DONATE BEER MONEY TO 1ST PERSON WHO HELPS FIX MY DAMN PHONE!!
set up fastboot and fastboot flash one of your nandroids.
http://www.4shared.com/file/136452986/f9d297d5/nandroid-cm41111
if you don't have one (for some unknown reason) here is one i uploaded a while back to help some one who couldn't get their touch screen to work.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=532719
there is good thread to get fastboot/adb set up.
to restore you nandroid via fastboot
Code:
fastboot flash system system.img
fastboot flash userdata data.img
fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot reboot
those 3 images are the only ones you will need to restore via fastboot.
i suggest putting them in the folder that has fastboot.exe in it, and cd to that folder.
also since you say you have the new spl, i assume you mean 1.33.2005, then you will need the updated drivers found here (http://sapphire-port-dream.googlecode.com/files/usb_driver_updated.zip)
if you can't get all this set up then i suggest trying to apply the DREAIMG.nbh file in bootloader (screen with the androids)
you can get the DREAIMG.nbh file here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=563679). also you can use that guide as a resource to re-root your phone.

STAY AWAY FROM IFAP.TO!!!

Cyanogen 4.12.2

Ohh man, i was seriously disappointed in this release. All was good til let CM Updater automatically update the firmware, then all of a sudden my SD card was corrupt.
But wait, i go to "Update from any zip" And my previous installs are there.
4.9.* is corrupt, so i do a nandroid backup and b00m theres HERO... OMFG

First, this belongs in Q&A and as such has been reported.
But, to be helpful, you can manually flash the system.img and data.img from your backups to make sure that it restores the correct backup via fastboot
If you copy the files to your computer (system.img, data.img, and boot.img) to where-ever you have fastboot then you can run the commands in the bootloader:
Code:
fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot flash system system.img
fastboot flash userdata data.img
and this should be the same as a NANDROID/switchrom restore.
couple of thing - wrong section
the 4.2.x are stored in /sdcard/cmupdater/ or thereabouts and its unlikely they are all corrupt
its your own fault for not doing a nandroid of a CM (you may have an old one in there if you went to hero after cm and then back again)
if not, start again with 1.6 then CM
CM doesnt screw your sd, improper use does
I am seriously disappointed with your post.
why-o-why do we let people with less than 50 posts create threads anywhere but the QnA?
ZALGO - that was wrecking-crew-esque....let me shake your hand
i miss those guys....
ohh stfu -- all you, i have been flashing PC bios for years, but i "update" my phone with and automatic update, and you jump on my back. and where so you think i got my information to flash my phone. "YES" xda.. so swallow it up.. Question is there a thread for the new Cyanogen 4.12.2 release, if so point me to it. THANKS!!!
fukin look for it you lazy buggar
its staring you in the face...infact it was 2 under your thread when you first posted
and so what if you flash pc bios(s) all the time, this is even easier, you dont even need to push a button until its finished
I'm new with like no post an I can tell your a tool. Do a little search douch nozzle. I am a noob and I agree garok89, no new threads for noobs outside of Q+A before they can show there not tools like this douch who started the tread
cm updater could do with the option to do a Bart / Switchrom / Nandroid backup though.
I have clicked apply now many times and forgotten to manually reboot and do a backup first.
If it fails I just curse myself, but it would be a nice feature.
the cmupdater can easily have the feature to autonandroid - we have the code for it
only problem is, none of the recovery images support it
the second its supported in cyanogens recovery image (and therefore RAs recovery image as it is based on cyanogens) we will enable the feature
reading is the best way to avoid these types of problems.
but lets face it, this is total....

To downgrade to KitKat, download the following file to your PC and extract with 7zip or WinRar: https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=23991606952608110
Boot your phone into download mode. This is done by powering the phone off, then holding down vol- and power at the same time. Connect the phone to PC with USB. You have to flash all four files with Odin as shown in the following image:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
Please be aware that this process will erase any settings, data, and media saved to your phone's internal storage and restore it to its original factory condition, now on KitKat. This process also takes a long time (at least 5 or 10 minutes) and will cause your phone to reboot on its own, and to boot into stock recovery at least once. It is important you leave your phone alone while it is doing so, and definitely do not disconnect it until it boots into the KitKat setup wizard screen.
To apply the security patch, you will now have to flash two files in stock recovery (vol+ and power). First download and extract this file: https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=96042739161891196 it should be named 2400258.cfg. You need to rename it update.zip (yes, this involves changing the file type) and save update.zip to your external SD card (it will not work if it's on internal storage).
Finally, you need to download this file to your external storage and flash in stock recovery: https://www.androidfilehost.com/user/?w=settings-dev-files&flid=37222 Please note this file has already been renamed update.zip. They must both be named update.zip for them to work; since this can be potentially confusing I'd advise you to either save them to different folders, or delete the first one after you're done with it.
Follow these steps and you'll be back on KitKat, with that all important security patch. Good luck :good:

[SOLVED] Stuck on stock recovery, adb/fastboot/flash from sd wont work

Solved: This thread may be deleted, sry for bothering you.
I wasnt aware of how to get into fastboot from the stock recovery: Turn off device (Hold down VOLUME UP, VOLUME DOWN and POWER at the same time for a few seconds), remove SD card (in case there's a ZIP that will get auto executed) and boot into bootloader (VOLUME DOWN and POWER for a few seconds).
Old post:
Hello Community!
I'm stuck on the stock recovery with neither fastboot nor adb recognising my device and flashing from SD card giving me "check cid failed, Invalid operation".
How did it come to this:
Tried out Costum ROMs (Linage & Carbon),
restored old backup with TWRP
thought I'd wanna see the stock ROM,
flashed boot image and stock recovery according to this guide
thought it would be a good idea to reboot
regret the last part cause stuck on recovery.
What does it look like atm:
When I turn on the phone, it will stay in the booting screen for some time (white background, "HTC powered by android"), go black, go booting screen again and then go stock recovery (black background, red rectangle with exclamation mark inside)
So I hold VOLUME UP and press POWER, which gets me here:

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
Tried them all, check cid failed, invalid operation.
When connecting to PC, Windows gives me the devices recognition sound, but adb and fastboot act as if no connection:
What else did I try:
Uninstalled HTC drivers, reboot, install HTC sync manager, uninstall sync manager but leave drivers.
tried different ports and cables as well as SD cards
I don't get why it won't flash from SD card. I tried with different TWRPs in zip, rar and img format, named them 0P8BIMG.* and 0P6BIMG.*
When there's no SD card inside it gives me an error, so it does recognize the SD card.
Last but not least about the bootloader: I locked and unlocked the bootloader shortly before this all happened, so I guess the bootloader is unlocked. However after all I'm merely a noob in all of this, so what do I know.
Any unbricking suggestions?

It's located here - root/dev/block/by-name
But in case you need to extract run this commands in terminal emulator
su
dd if=/dev/block/bootdevice/by-name/splash of=/sdcard/splash.img

No splash.img is static part if you want to edit animation part of your phone's boot sequence you should change/edit bootanimation. Basically you can use any 30second video and turn it into a bootanimation.
