Enable 5ghz Hotspot Band - Sony Xperia 1 II Questions & Answers

Does anyone know of an app or root utility that could be used to enable the 5ghz hotspot band? Typically, one should be able to select the 2.4ghz or 5ghz band in the hotspot configuration section of the settings app. However, for whatever reason, Sony has removed that option. It's very weird because any modern phone can support both of those bands. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Where you able to figure it out?

Any new info?

From what I understand the flex d958 should work on 5gh N/ac....shouldn't matter if phone is locked or not..i'd work on the setting and the router.

[Q] How do you prioritize wifi access points on the N6?

Here's the problem. I have an 802.11ac router at my apartment, with two access points, one of them on the 5GHz band, the other on the 2.4GHz band.
I want my N6 to be forced to go on the 5GHz AP every time, and shun the 2.4GHz AP. This is because at my apartment complex, everyone's got a 2.4GHz router, so even though my N6 thinks it gets a stronger signal in the 2.4GHz band, it will get ****ty bandwidth from the 2.4GHz bands, because everyone in my complex is watching Netflix at the same time. The 5GHz bands are clean, so I get get far more bandwidth there.
So how do I force my Nexus 6 to use my 5GHz AP, and not my 2.4GHz AP?
Yes, I know, you can go into the settings, and tell it to use only 5GHz APs, or only 2.4GHz APs. I'm looking for the setting that says "Strongly prefer 5GHz APs, and only use 2.4GHz when absolutely desperate." That way, I don't have to remember to go into the settings so I can get wifi when I go out for coffee.
I don't want to constantly fiddle with my phone. I want an automated way to make my N6 Do It My Way.
I used to be able to prioritize access points in Kit Kat, but Google thinks we're idiots, so they omitted that feature from Lollipop.
Also, being able to prioritize access points means your phone doesn't log into your neighbor's ****ty wifi that you used once when you went over for beer, when you'd prefer it used your own wifi.
Are there any Lollipop 5.1 compatible apps that let you do this?
Can you go on your router and rename the 5ghz band to a different ssid as the 2.4ghz band.
After that only have the nexus connect to the 5ghz ssid.

That's already done, though I found that the N6 "helpfully" automatically adds the 2.4GHz SSID, since it automatically detects it's going from the same device as the 5GHz AP.
How can it connect to the 2.4 channel if you remove it?
Like I said, make it only know/trust your 5ghz channel.
Completely remove the 2.4 signal

WIFI Tether Router now works

I've used WIFI Tether Router for several phones with great success.
I know all about the adding of ,dun to apns
But if you already have root Wifi Tether Router does not need any mods. It might also works on CDMA (roaming), where the ,dun trick does not.
It also might be less traceable by sprint.

I'm rooted and this app didn't work for me. Is there anything special I have to do? My mobile is set to Global. Does it need to be CDMA/LTE?

I think these are the only changes needed from default. I so happen to use no encryption (i.e. Open) and channel = 1 which I think is default.
Interface wlan0
method 2
firmware reload unchecked
I think everything else is default.
If you scroll to bottom of Configuration there is a Link to "devices configurations/website"
I had the Native tether working too and I removed the ",dun" mod from my APN's to test this.
Mine shows Build 165
Does SuperUser pop up to grant permission?
It might not work on roaming (CDMA), same limitation as the Native mod (i.e. adding ,dun).
Who-Hoo Wifi Tether Router works on roaming (i.e. works on non Sprint CDMA Networks). The adding of ,dun to APN's method only works on Sprint Networks (i.e. LTE and eHPRD). WIFI Tether Router works on everything. But you do need root.
Tested on rooted ZV6.
can someone please explain how to add ,dun to apn? ive looked online and see lines of provisional code being added. this was on a tmobile nexus 6 and i wasnt sure if thats the way for all phone. thanks in advance!
There is a video specific to the Sprint phone, where the guy walks through the steps one by one showing each step and result to add the dun info, though I don't recall if it was specifically the apn info that was modified?
Anyway, you need an app that can create shortcuts for hidden features of the phone, as explained on the guide. Install that app, that allows you to run the program built into the phone that lets you edit the thing to add the dun text and save it.
Sorry I don't recall the details, but it's another thread here about free wifi tether or hotspot.

Which hotspot method, Native (with ,dun added to APN's) or WIFI Tether Router?
I saw similar issue when trying to tether on Ev-Do it will connect for a moment and disconnect.
The APN method will not work on Ev-Do (usually that means roaming but not always).
Latest WIFI Tether Router will work on Ev-Do but requires root.

so i checked my default and its what OP has aside from the ,dun thing.
I am having an issue with wifi tether router where it will connect for a while and then the wifi signal will stop on its own. I have to kill and restart wifi tether router to regain a connection. I am wondering if this is a heating problem as the phone gets fairly hot when using wifi tether router. Is there a way to reduce the wifi radio power on the G4?
Uncheck "Allow Wifi Scanning" in advanced wifi settings. Should stop the signal from going away.

So just had something weird happen want to see if anyone else ran into this. I just reset for the month yesterday and My Metro app is showing 1.3 gigs used (all tethered with app). While playing Xbox I get a message saying I have used all of my hotspot data. I checked data usage on Xbox I haven't even used a gig yet. Also they didn't throttle my data. Anyone know what's going on?

Is there a way to force a 2.4GHz Wifi connection?

In order to setup a smart device, I need to connect to the wifi network using the 2.4GHz band. Google Wifi doesn't allow you to turn on/off bands, and I haven't been able to find a wifi setting on the P20 to make that choice from the phone. Is there any way to force the P20 Pro to use the 2.4GHz band?
There is a workaround that substitutes in a phone wifi hotspot for the Google Wifi temporarily, but I don't have a second phone to do that with. Any other suggestions?

Hotspot not able to share as 5ghz WiFi band

I googled and found some users having same issue but not a firm solution as found yet...
The WiFi hotspot just don't allowed me to share as 5ghz band instead only 2.4ghz band...
There is no "advance setting" to let me select, wondering anyone having this issue?
Maybe it's not a hot spot after all

I'm connecting 5ghz band WiFi with no issue just i can't shared my hotspot as 5ghz band...
Got the same issue here with an S8. No 5*GHz option, I can only change the 2.4*GHz channel.
