What Pixel Android 10 features are missing on Sony's very stock looking Android. - Sony Xperia 1 II Questions & Answers

Hello,
I was wondering if anyone could help me narrow down what I would be missing out on with regards to Pixel exclusive Android features.
Of course there are the features like Hold for me which are pretty limited in availability around the world anyway so am not to fussed about that. No Google Camera AI, that's understandable.
I'm thinking about the ability to change quick toggle colours and shapes. The always listening/now playing lockscreen ticker. Ability to highlight any text (OCR) in the task switcher. Any other AI features?
Any thoughts?
Please and thanks!
G.

You actually can change highlight color and icon shape. There's a thread on it here.

Possible Icon Set

So I'm toying with the idea of doing a complete pixel based icon set (plus some wallpapers for future theme-ing).
I was wondering if there was any interest from anyone out there in the community. if so I'd be more than happy to crank out some preview icons. I'm talking pixel art in a non-isometric flavour. (Isometric icons, while cool, would be hard to manage in a 60x60 icon size... do-able but might not look so good)
I'm working on a mail icon and will post up when I finish it. Just wanted to get a feel.

[Discussion] Stock Android and Next Version of Android

So, a few days ago Apple announced iOS 8 and previewed some of it features. This made me look back into Android, specifically Stock Android. And with Google I/O just around the corner, here are some things that I wish Google will improve on.
The Dark, Old, and Gloomy Holo UI
When it first came out, Holo UI was the thing. Everyone who was still on Gingerbread wanted it, they installed launchers and even modded framework and stuff. Skip forward 3 years, Holo UI is still here with a little change on the icon colours. Some may love it, but it's definitely getting boring. There are rumours that the next version will be 5.0 instead of 4.5. I hope that with the 1.0 jump, there will be a major UI overhaul.
The Not So Helpful Quick Tiles
Quick Tiles, when you look at it it really seems to help make things quicker. "Oh look, the WiFi icon. If I press this, it's gonna toggle the WiFi, right?" NOPE, clicking it will bring you to the Settings section while long pressing it will toggle it instead. I don't know how long it's been like this but I've only tasted stock since 4.2.2 and it's still like this on KitKat so... Someone in the UX Department needs to be scolded.
Not only it's rather misguiding, the toggles itself doesn't offer that much. There are no tiles for NFC, Sync, Auto Rotation and there's no way to add them either. Custom ROMs and manufacturers' skins however offer all these for years and even after a few 0.1 updates, Google doesn't seem to touch this. Which makes me wonder if most people prefer it Google's way. I definitely don't.
KitKat Transparency Not Being Used
When KitKat was announced, the transparent status bar and navigation bar really wowed me. I was hoping the colours would match accordingly to which app is opened. But apparently, apps need to be updated and coded to take advantage of this. Which is fine, there are a few apps that does this but what baffles me is Google isn't one of them. Other than Google Now Launcher, everything pretty much stayed the same. How can others be motivated to do this when even Google isn't doing it.
It Lacks Appeal to the Public Eyes
Have you seen what other skinned Android can do without installing other apps? Multi-Window, Dual Capture Camera, Slow Motion Video Capture, Floating Apps, Power Saving Mode, Video Calling, and many more. What can Stock Android do? Well, normal stuff every Android smartphone can do except those above I guess. Stock Android are designed for developers and tech enthusiasts so it should be normal to stay as de-bloated as possible but don't you want some of those goodies that other skins offer?
Your Thoughts?
Yes, there are apps that can do the stuff above and Xposed Framework can help, but we're talking about pure stock Android without roots and many other stuff. Which makes me wonder, being a Nexus user, how many of you guys stay pure stock?
With competition heating up such as iOS's possible split Window Mode and Windows 8.1's Cortana, not to mention other emerging OS such as Tizen, Ubuntu Touch, Sailfish and Firefox OS; Android need to step up it's game on the next version. What do you think will make Stock Android better?

Custom ROMS are way ahead of this.. Stock, naaaa.. Custom roms you get features satablility and sort of completeness. It defeats stock by a long margin.

Yeah, tried stock for a week, couldn't stand it :silly: With all those bugs, it makes you wonder if people at Google actually uses stock Android or never tried custom ROMs, lol.

Missing themes feature in XZ3

Hello,
It looks like Sony quietly removed the themes feature from Xperia home in XZ3/android Pie.
Does that mean that the feature will also be removed from the other xperia devices when they get their taste of android Pie?
They killed the small apps feature in Nougat even though some apps were paid apps and now it looks like they will do the same for themes.
For the sake of all the themes I have bought since the feature appeared on the Xperia Z familly, I hope this is just a temporary absence.
By the way they should also stop to waste time on things like dynamic vibration or side sense both are more annoying than useful.
If some one knows how to reactivate the themes on XZ3, her or his help would greatly be appreciated.
Thanks
Probably because the current themes available control the status bar and nav bar along with nav icon buttons.
If the theme manager app controls them, then maybe the pixel shifting effect to counter burn in will stop too.
Interestingly, downloading themes still works and the wallpapers attached to the theme become available in wallpaper selector. Meaning its definitely something to do with the bars that Sony wants their own software to control.

Samsung S8/9 and note 8/9 have a similar theme app allowing to change the nav bar appearance. That makes me think preventing oled screen burns is a less likely reason than the new navigation mode in Android Pie which is absent on XZ3 anyway.
I have also noticed that the time is now displayed on the left side of the status bar (ripple effect of the notch ???) and it is no longer possible to activate System UI Tuner as in previous Android versions.
I guess we will know when Android Pie roll on previous XZ phones.

This sucks to be honest. I can't even download themes. Hopefully this gets rectified. Sony did have a few decent themes.
...and Xperia Actions has been dumped which is annoying for me as I used it quite a bit.
I've never had a desire for themes because with LCD there's no difference between a light and dark interface, and literally the moment Sony gives us an OLED phone there's no dark theme available.
Thank god themes are still available in xz2 Pie update.
Sent from my [device_name] using XDA-Developers Legacy app
Now it's official .
Then I will stop buying Xperia phones.

Only about the themes ? Lol siriously
Buy xz2
Already bought one, despite the ugly design and the removal of the jack. I also have the xz2 premium.
Now there is nothing left that made xperia phone special for. I will go back to xz premium that is more complete and compelling than any of the 2018 line up.

Icons for changing navbar in NavStar

Hello!
So I got a Note9 about two weeks ago, and when I found out that there is a new Good Lock app that lets me change my navbar, I instantly went and downloaded it. The thing is, I'm not really satisfied with the stock icons that it gives. There is an option for choosing icons from the gallery, but my problem is that when I search on Google I can't find any good quality navigation icons. So my question is: do any of you know sites that have a variety of icons (including navbar icons) for Android and offer them in good quality for free? (In good quality I mean about 300x300 is fine)
Thanks for further help!
These are not even close to 300x300. All you need is 48x48 or around that size. Some don't have multi-window. Use recents style for it.
Thanks
