Should be it is listed many places as having HDR 10+. I haven't tried but will now.
Edit yea Netflix says it is not compatible....

Quoted from reviews "One thing worth noting is that Netflix does not support HDR playback on the FE as of writing this - YouTube and Amazon Prime Video, on the other hand, do, so the phone definitely supports HDR, but it will be up to Netflix to enable the streaming support in HDR. The DRM Info app reports the phone is indeed capable of HDR10, HDR10+, and HLG playback, and it has Widevine Level 1." They need to support it. The hardware is there.

Thx...i know it already

Neither Netflix nor Prime shows in HDR for me on the S20 FE. Youtube detects the display is HDR capable, but does not seem to activate HDR (e.g., by maxing the brightness). My guess is Samsung caught these content providers by surprise with the release of the S20 FE, so they haven't had time to certify the display and make sure it works correctly with their services.

try the original youtube App not a modded Version.
It does HDR for me with high Brightness.
But sometimes the brightness stutters a bit.

I can confirm HDR works. Just blinded myself watching some Costa Rican video.

It is no for me. Youtube app or vanced, no hdr effect.
Edit. Youtube app shows me hdr content but brightness changes too frequent.

Hi!
This issue is fixed?
I want to purchase the device and before that I want to know if the HDR support exists on Netflix.
Can someone please share a screenshot at "App settings - Reproduction specification" in the Netflix app?
Best Regards

and the info from Netflix App an Netflix App version.

Thanks a lot @maik005 !
Samsung/Netflix forgotten about the HDR support for this device.
I will buy the device. Have nice specs for the price ratio.
Let's hope for some fix in a early future
But at least have Full HD... Better than nothing

Other than Netflix can HDR10 file be played with regular video players like MX Player and the Android stock video player?
HDR UHD 4K Demos | 4K Media
UHD 4K demos with HDR (high dynamic range), this expands the range of both contrast and color significantly.
4kmedia.org

I can play them without a problem.
But the display stays at low brightness and it does not look like HDR even with B
max brightness.
Tested with VLC and Samsung Video Player.

Now the S20 FE is on the Netflix HDR supported devices list
Maybe after a system update we can finally watch HDR content
How to use Netflix on your Android phone or tablet
To watch Netflix, download the app from the Google Play Store, open it, then follow the instructions.

Where is my Netflix 4k?

I don't see 4k as an option in my Netflix app and the HDR videos, the blacks aren't black. It's like grey. I'm confused. I have data usage to Max, I've reinstalled the app, I have 110 mbps down with Comcast.
Is this all by design?
I think it is region and content dependant, I dont see it in my samsung tv either,
Pardon me for asking but what's the point of 4K content when you dont have a 4K display?
I didn't think Netflix content would show available as 4K unless the app detects a 4K screen which the Note doesn't have .Same as their television apps.

You have to subscribe to 4k content as well.

According to this site Note 8 has "3K Higher Resolution 2960 x 1440" & it is certified by the "UHD Alliance for Mobile HDR Premium, which allows it to play all of the latest content produced for 4K UHD Premium TVs" it means it is HDR ready I can clearly see a difference between HD & HDR content on Netflix and on downloaded videos!
But tell me why Netflix is incompatible with my device?
I have Netflix istalled on my phone and one time when I opened it the app was asking for update. Took me straight from Netflix to Play store and there it said something "This app is incompatible with your device". After that I couldn't even find Netflix from Play anymore.
I got stock international Exynos version, N950F/DS

To be honest, watching 4K downscaled instead of 1080p upscaled on a 3K display kinda makes sense, at least. But the HDR is a top argument, enough said.
I'm not even that mad at the resolution. It might actually be showing in 3k but just not labeled as so. I'm more made I'm getting a washed out black level when watching HDR. That's the opposite of HDR. Complete opposite. If you watch your nav bar right as it switches to HDR Netflix you can see it turn from black to grey almost. Why Netflix, why.

Or showing it wrong. It's labeled HDR and does look very bright and colorful. The blacks are wrong and sometimes the highlights are a tad off. Like on skin. Can anybody test and confirm this grey black effect?
Dud you try to switch Screen Mode to AMOLED Cinema to see if it makes any difference?
No difference. Still makes the blacks turn grey.
In Brazil too don't work HDR in Galaxy Note 8 and my speed internet is 100mb I try contact support Netflix but they don't know way don't work.

Has anyone seen HDR working on their phone?

Hi,
Anybody had HDR working on their phone? I have a hdr moniker in both Amazon prime and Netflix, but neither actually play back in HDR. Also there is no difference between HDR on/off in pubg mobile. I'm starting to wonder if this phone is capable.
Yup. I see it working in Netflix. Also the phone came pre loaded with an hdr 10 sample video which does work.

Do you record in HEVC and are there visible differences ?

Got my S10+ and I see that it has HDR+ option and HEVC. HDR+ should be better in any case but what about HEVC ?
Is there visible quality difference when you record in HEVC format ? In size it does have difference but also it disables HDR+ option.
Thanks
One more thing, did I got it right that HDR+ videos can be viewed only on HDR devices ????
I thought it will appear like normal video on laptop or other phone and TV ? So normal video wothout any HDR effects. Then I must turn it off if that is the case.
Anyone ? Is xda dead ?

I haven't played with HEVC, but I do know that Apple has this option to and can capture in this format. Basically it should be an upgrade to the older format(H.264/MP4) and should provide better compression and support for 8K too
Also for HDR you normally need HDR supported display. For example my Surface Pro 6 can play HDR videos from YouTube and other streaming services. Otherwise HDR videos will play normally on other displays/devices

There is no difference in quality. HEVC is smaller in size and doesn't run on all devices compatible with x.264

HEVC stands for High efficiency Video Codec. It is nothing more than a compression format. It does nothing for video quality

No HD on Prime Video on rooted Mi 9T Pro

Hello, I've noticed that after I've unlocked the bootloader and rooted the device, Prime Video is not streaming on 1080p HD anymore even though the device has Widevine L1 certification (Netflix is working fine). It looks really really bad. I've managed to keep google pay working, and installed the Netflix fix too (liboemocrypto.so patch or something like that)...is anyone facing the same issue or know a fix to the problem?

In upper right corner it says "null kbps, 1920:1080, PAR 1:1 , 8 bpc, 23.976 fps" I think Netflix is ok...it seems it is not triggering HDR but maybe because the test doesn't support it.

It looks like actual crap, there are no details, it shows compression arctifacts on complex scenes and fast moving objects...like it is running on 240p or 360p. Moreover if the video is running in FullHD the Prime video player will show 1080p HD under the progress bar just next to the minutes counter.
I am sure it is not a bandwidth problem since I've got gigabit fiber at home and fast 4G+ Data. Tested speed before reproducing were 522Mbps on WiFi and 130Mbps on 4G+, tested both on ookla and fast.com
EDIT: in the settings menu I've selected maximum streaming and quality, but it says that the Data consumption will be 0.46GB per hour...it seems really lo...what you guys get? Could anyone with a locked and stock device please share a screenshot of the quality settings?
I can't stream in HD even on a stock device. As far as I know, noone can.

Same on stock. Quality is not as bad as you describe but I can see a bit of compression like its's 720 maybe. Netflix on the test chart says 720p max for me (even on the 1080p test) but Netflix settings say that HDR 1080 is supported

It should be possible since Amazon whitelisted our device in December, so we should be able to stream content at full resolution as reported in some articles...I think I have the EEA Rom, and maybe only the Global Rom Is whitelisted...or maybe only Raphael and not Raphaelin...i've seen screenshot of FullHD content running on the device (with locked bootloader)

I'm running at full quality on Netflix and I am sure of that...I watched some Irish man content and it even triggered HDR on and it was running at full res, with noticeably high quality. While on Prime Video watching TGT Seamen I can notice crap quality when the boats are sprinkling water and with the sea surface...

Okok I can confirm that even on stock I can't see hd content on Amazon, so it's most likely a whitelist problem

Care to share the screenshot? I've contacted both Amazon and Xiaomi, Amazon says it's not their fault, Xiaomi says they will bring compatibility in a "future update" (aka never).

Question S8+ HDR10 for Netflix, Amazon Prime Video & Disney+

Hi all, about to purchase the S8+ but would like to get confirmation on how the S8+ performs on these three streaming apps. Does it deliver HDR on all three, or just full HD? Concerned as seeing Netflix forums changing woodvine levels on various tablets. Thanks!

Can't give you an answer for APV or Disney+, but the Tab S8+ does indeed support full HD playback and has Widevine Level 1. It also has support for HDR10+. I have a rooted S8+ and I enjoy full HD content on it regularly.
Thanks SavXL. And in Netflix can you watch in HDR or just full HD? Just trying make sure I'll get most out of the screen

It only shows the max resolution as full HD for me.
Side note, i do not think anyone adapted HDR10+ outside of Amazon.
The thing about HDR+ is that it is heavily supported by Samsung and Amazon, as a gimmick against DolbyVision. From what i know, which may have changed, you wont get HDR10+ from Netflix, Apple TV and Disney+.
