Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 Review — No eSim US Models - Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 Guides, News, & Discussion

Here are my 2 cents.

This no eSIM thing really burns my short hairs.

But ESIM is enabled with the next firmware update...so hopefully its a slow burn...

i dont think they have even started the process for a soak test afaik
That is what I figured, good ole slow verizon. Can you pull the APK from another carrier for the camera? Would that work?

From what i hear, apk won't work. Will have to wait for the VZW OTA.
I called to complain about some issues with my X and asked about the update and they have the update version as the current version for the phone, but if you buy one, you still have to wait for the update. They say that Motorola is the one holding the update due to a staged rollout depending on when you bought the phone. Not sure i believe that.
Yea... i dont have a link handy but one of the android sites has a quote from Motorola basically saying it's Verizon's fault now, not theirs.

Lol yes. Not surprised but still pissed. I guess VZW has to make sure all the bloat is in tact and exploits are "gone" before they release. Siiiigh.

How do these OTA updates not "leak"? Surely someone, somewhere has it.

On average how far behind is Verizon usually compared to other carriers? Like not exaggerating, literally multiple months or just a few weeks to a month?

Usually months 2-4. Look how far after a new device is released on all carriers and then verizon gets it 4 months later.

That's ridiculous. They better watch out once the other carriers get their LTE coverage out to full capacity. Verizon might be on to 5G or LTE-A but there will be a lot of content people getting newer phones and faster updates on the other carriers even if original LTE is "old".
Verizon isn't always that far behind with updates but with the Moto X update I will admit this is getting a bit ridiculous.
remember that verizon also is prob going to patch the camera for X/Ultra/Maxx/Mini at the same time... i work for an indirect verizon retailer and have a good relationship with 2 motorola reps. the patch is coming as far as they have told me.. just waiting for verizon to finalize on all four devices. TMo/ATT/Sprint have one device.. Verizon has 4 LOL. Patience grasshoppers.. patience.
If thats the case then I love that they are holding up 1 phone that could have 2 core issues resolved just so they can update 4 devices at once......

Disable things you don't use for now. Security updates obviously still matter regardless of other issues.
Got the October update on my VZW version this evening. So far so good. I've had camera freezing issues previously, haven't had a chance to test anything yet.

From what I'm seeing on Reddit, camera version before the update was 8.5.05.19, and after the update it's 8.5.05.25. If accurate (I can't say, as I didn't think to check, myself), then this was part of the 400MB update (as reported on Reddit). The question is what others (non-Verizon) who got the updated camera "fix" have for the version.
Finally got the update on my unlocked.

Yeah they pushed ARJ5 for unlocked as well as carrier branded. They've really stepped up their unlocked game recently. S9/+ is getting monthlies now too. Over on that side, they even have Wifi Calling on VZW now.

When pigs fly
Many users on carrier models are reporting bugs. Hopefully they're working them out for us US Unlocked users
Yeah honestly with all the issues being reported, I'm in no rush to receive the update. My Note 9 works flawlessly right now.
Swine flu
I have it on the unlocked flashed with T-Mobile firmware as I don't plan on switching carriers anytime soon. The unlocked gets it last as it has to wait for all the other carriers to update in case there is an update with the radios or something else but the beauty of unlocked is you can Odin any firmware you want at anytime as I did and go back if you want. The pie update is great so far with no bugs I can report. I've been running it since Saturday. I really like the new look and the battery is even better. Best bet is to factory reset after the update for a great experience as it's a new system. As for bloat ware, only 2 apps that can't be uninstalled and I use them (well one, the T-Mobile app, you don't need unlock app but it doesn't run in the background).
Pie for unlocked is here
I woke up, checked and Pie is available to download, unlocked here. Let's have fun!

Question on updates

Just ordered the International 6GB version this morning and I had a question about updates.
I've read that different versions can get their updates at different times., and that sometimes a particular version might be well behind the others. I'm wondering if I should flash the U.S. firmware when I get the phone or if it's better to leave it with the one it comes with.
I'm on Straight Talk (using AT&T towers), so I'm not getting any of the VoLTE service in any regard, so the only reason to do this would be to get a firmware that has timely updates.
Any thought from those who've had the phone for a while?
I would leave it as is unless your compelled to change it. I'm on the H9493 TW version and still on February's patch. Some regions have moved to March already. It will come in the next few weeks.

Thanks for the reply. I had heard that the H9493 was a bit behind in other regions, but if it's only by a few weeks or so then I'm not too concerned. If it was more like a couple of months behind, then I would maybe look at flashing another region's firmware.
Looking forward to getting the phone. Was really tempted to last year, but the price kept me away. Now though, I picked up a brand new one on Amazon for only $629, which I believe is still cheaper than the U.S. model, surprisingly!).
I flashed the US firmware when I received mine (mainly for the T-Mobile VoLTE) and it gets updated pretty quickly. It has been a week or more since the March update came. Other than somewhat faster updates, I'm not sure if there will be any benefits for you though.

Yeah, I'm thinking I'll just hold off, since it sounds like the updates come fairly quickly, even if not at exactly the same time.
Well, we're a week into May and I'm still on the February patch.
Got to say, I'm not too impressed with Sony's update policy, at least for this version of the phone. Here's hoping something comes through sooner rather than later.

Which, I take it, operates on a different update schedule than the rest of the H9693 models?
What a mess. If I didn't already have the phone set up the way I'd like, I'd just install a different regions firmware. Still may have to think about doing that as it doesn't look like I'll get any updates anytime soon.
They are all over the place with them because some get held up based on region. I had a few HK variants over the years and they did eventually catch up. The OEM updates frequently but the methodology is fractured.

Thanks for the info. I still may flash a different regional firmware if I have time this weekend. While it's a pain, it might be the best thing in order to get timely updates. I'll have to research the method to do it (I believe you can do it using Sony's own software), and whether this will wipe the microSD card as well as the phone data.
Sony software will only flash same regional software. You will need to use Newflasher. Read the instructions, it's not difficult..

Don't you need two radios to have two lines active at the same time? You mean switching between phone calls or merging two different phone lines on one call? I do think MEP is functioning on the P7 but only DSDS. Also I'm not sure if you can have dual eSims and a physical sim or only 2 working at once. Curious to see the specs on this too.

I mean DSDS with two eSIM at the same time. Right now only combo possible is eSIM + physical with older pixels. There are rumors of MEP implementation but explicit dual eSIM support (DSDS) is not mentioned anywhere officially.

It looks like dual eSim is supported. They are implementing it rather quietly but it should be there according to all accounts I've read.
Dual SIM (Single Nano SIM and eSIM) on the official google spec page
Looking for dual eSim not necessarily dual anything else.
When I tried to activate the second eSIM on my new Pixel 7 it told me I should turn off the other active eSIM, it did not suggest that turning off the physical SIM is an option.

Thanks, and I wonder why they are delaying this. I think the iPhone latest has it already. I'm hoping the 7a will have it at the get go. That's what I'll be getting if it comes in at 6.1 again.
It works fine on my phone, AT&T and Tmobile (esim)
I have 1 eSIM and 1 regular SIM running. It does give me an option to add an eSIM, bt I don't want to try it because setting up the first one was a nightmare and I don't want to lose it.

Dual eSIM no longer works. It was removed from Pixel 7 over a month ago.
That said, back when it was working you could only use a total of 2 lines at a time. Either 2 eSIM or 1 eSIM + 1 pSIM.
