NEED a Case?? - Google Pixel 5 Questions & Answers

For those of you who already own the 5, do you think with the aluminum w/ resin coating body that it still needs a case? Just wondering your thoughts.
Thanks!!

I think it doesn't strictly NEED a case.
The back is made of durable materials (i.e. not glass ?)
I still got a screen protector tho. I used my Pixel 4 without screen protector and it got scratched pretty badly when it fell on tile floor. ?
That being said, it totally depends on personal preference.
I tend to be pretty careful with my phones and I rarely drop them.

Yeah, I agree. You don't HAVE to buy a case, but it prob is a good idea.
That sux. I guess that's better than nothing. I'm not a fan of screen protectors myself, but I know some ppl who always buy them.
That's good that you're careful with them. I am too, but even though rare, I still may drop mine here or there. lol
I went ahead and ordered one of Google's fabric cases for the 5. I've heard from a couple ppl that they feel really nice in the hand, and they can be washed in the washer too I guess.

Though choice for me this time.
I love the build and feel of the device so i actually don't want to use a case, and if i do i would really need a grippy and really slim one.
But I'm going to start with a skin to get some form of protection without changing to much.
Still debating to use a screen protector as I'm no fan of them and i believe it's not really needed with gg 5 or 6.

I also think it's fast to satisfying to touch this nice raisin coating. My last phone (huawei mate 20 pro) had both curved glass front and back, and after using it for nearly two years only with a skin and screen protector it finally fell down the day I was changing those and cracked on both sides...
Since the mate was nearly twice as expensive and less durable from day one, I think a case is only worth it if you plan on keeping the phone for several years or if you want to sell it in a prestine condition.
But at this price point I think I'll just enjoy my pixel again with just a skin and screen protector.
TL;DR:
Even the slimmest cases make the phone nearly twice as thick so they actually increase the probability of dropping it so a nice skin and screen protector should already do the job

All good points made here!
I ordered a Google fabric case for my Pixel 5. But I guess I COULD just return it if I don't feel like keeping it, and just go case-less. We shall see..................................................

I used my pixel 5 since launch without a case on, no issues at all. My bellroy leather case has arrived now, nice slim fit and soft leather back. It's really nice

A case is going to give you some cushioning if dropped. As one that drops his phone from time to time, a case is essential to me for that reason alone.

Samsung Clear Case, anyone tried?

Hi,
has anyone tried the Samsung Clear case for the Edge? It's the bumper case style case from Samsung. Not the clear view.
http://www.samsung.com/global/galax...es/accessories_galaxy-s6-edge_clear-cover.jpg
I really like the design but i am wondering how much it protects the phone? Is it good enough? Will your phone be safe if you drop it?
I tried, I don't advice to get one because of its price and it doesn't protect nothing if the phone falls only if hit the corners other then that the phone is naked. It's only good to protect the camera if you put on top of the table, and the other thing is because our phone is glass when you put this case you will have bubbles beneath, between the back of the phone and the case. Not well made this. It's beautiful other then that isn't good.
Have it, love it, never drop tested it.
But I have bumped it a few times on the corners (and back) and no scratch or damage at all.
Unlike the guy above that doesn't use it, mine does not have bubbles between the back glass and the case.

You cant actually say that case is protective because its not, let me show you mine so everybody can see that im not lying.
and you can see the difference from another one i have Ringke Slim that has no bubbles.
Its not my first phone or my first case you know
I Don´t Recomend It
I have it, looks awesome, and I never had the feeling of normal cases where I want to take them off all the time, but I dropped it from 30cm and the thing looks awful and has like a kind of crack on the corner, so if I get to drop it at normal height (around 1m) I´m not sure if it will protect anything.
I recomend the spigen Neo Hybrid it's the best match for the s6 edge but here in Mexico they only sell the clear case.
I have one & have been using it ever since I've had my S6E since launch day. I love it b/c it allows me to place the phone on its front or back without touching the phone on the surface, it's very light, shows off the looks of the phone, and makes the phone look cool. I had 2 aluminum bumper cases & one hard clear TPU case but I sold them b/c I like the Samsung clear view case much better.
I'm planning to purchase a Ringke Fusion smoke clear TPU case, however. Not as a replacement but as an addition.

Blame it on user (marco) error. Mine has zero bubbles. Perfect and easy.
I think i might get one. So far its the only one i saw that doesnt make the phone look ugly.
Don't. It scratches so easily when I was not even using it.
Here is the story: Got it free when I bought the edge on launch date. Used it a bit but I'm one of those guys who likes the phone naked. Kept it on a place where it won't get moved or touched. Some days I carry it around without the phone just in case. After a few weeks and I try to put it back on, so many scratches that it's so dirty looking. I didn't even freaking use it. >.>
im strugling to find a good case that protects well enough but doesnt look like crap.
I don't like it
I got this case for free with the pre-order for my phone.
Having used it as well as a Spigen Ultra Hybrid case and a UAG case, the bottom line is that it provides the least protection, but shows off the look of the phone the best. It is absolutely useless if you are the type to drop your phone often, or like to throw it around. I would very much recommend the UAG case for that. However, it excels at preserving the look of the phone, and is, in my opinion, the best case for the phone if you just want something to cover the rear and prevent scratches when placing it on a surface, and preventing scratches from minor bumps to the corners of the phone.
It should be noted that being a first party product, it is quite expensive. Overall, I would give it 10/10 for looks, 2/10 for protection, and 6/10 for value (I would give it a lower score for value since it offers so little protection or features, but so far its the only case I found which actually manages to keep the phone looking as good as it does naked).
I'm using one, got it free with a wireless charger. Loving it, feels invisible and removes that slippery feeling the back of the phone has.

How can I be blame? I'm simply giving my opinion and a lot of users agree that's is to expensive for the quality, I use a ton of cases and never got any problems with them, other then bubbles this one gets dirty and fingerprints all over in a few hours. But maybe it's only mine that's a fingerprint magnet [emoji4] [emoji6]
So what is the purpose of this case? Everyone seems to say it wont protect your phone from a fall but i thought that was the whole purpose. From what i see in the images, the case raises above the phone's level so the case should hit the ground before the phone for every side unless the ground is very uneven. Just like the first bumper case for the Iphone, it seemed to only protect the sides but the fact that it added a couple of mm between the phone and the ground really made it work. I dropped my iphone a bunch of times and it never actually touched the screen or back.
Can anyone confirmmy theory or did Samsung just fail with this case?
My gf wanted the Kate Spade case for her S6 Edge. While it does look like very good protection, the fact that the buttons become difficult to press seems like a deal breaker
I have it and I did not use for even a single day. Because its very slippery in the hand and does not protect the sides of the phone. But I agree that it looks beautiful but would definitely not recommend it at all.
I've had it for a month until I got my hands on incipio. This case is much better. With the clear case it scratches very easily.

it doesnt offer much protection but damn does it look good!

Caseless

Hey guys! I've been using my Galaxy s7 edge in a case ever since I got it, but one time I took it off the case and I liked the feeling of it. Is anyone else using the phone caseless and can you tell me how that experience is? I took a day to use it caseless but it was a little uncomfortable in my hand especially when I'm on my bed. Thanks! Also thinking of getting dbrand skin
Before otterbox came out with a case I wanted, I rocked my first edge caseless. I would sit down on my front concrete steps and the phone would slip out of my pocket every time. Had a couple of scrapes. Got abother edge and have thrown a xtreme guard skin on the back for less slippage but decided not to ruin the phone so I got a glass protector and commuter case. I honestly wish someone would come out with a spring clip holster for the edge so I can stop hiding the phone.

Get either a dbrand or tpu front and back protectors. I have the clear front and back protectors and they are great the phone sticks to my hand i have used the phone caseless since the release of the s7 edge and have not dropped it or even had the thought to my self of needing a case for it.
Here's a link to the one I got, UK link: http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01CH5RJT0/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_udp_apa_8e3IxbA2KK8HP
I couldn't find it on the US amazon website so if you are not in the UK you could try to find it on eBay or just purchase something similar.
When im home i always take off my case. I really feel the premiumness of the glass and metal build of the s7. Its what we pay for, premium build and the thickness is ideal. The only thing i hate about is when im on the bed using the phone it continues to slip from the hand and i accidentally touch the curve edges. I bought a super thin gel case for when i go out. And ordered a skin from slickwrap.
I use it without a case occasionally but it is kind of slippery. I bought a naked skin slickwrap since I was mostly worried about scratches that also added a little more grip

i used the phone with a case for 2 months, now i'm using a dbrand leather skin and a spigen screen protector without a case. waiting for a decent glass screen protector... same issue in bed, feels a little bit uncomfortable.
I quit putting my phones in a case since my Note 3. Right now I have Zagg HD Dry on the front and back (btw this is the most dissatisfied I've ever been with Zagg). My house is almost entirely travertine tile and I have dropped my phone once; it landed right down on the screen with not a crack on it at all (some what of a testament to Zagg I presume). I dislike the feel of the Zagg but it does its job but I really dislike the bulkiness of cases.
At home, case less (only front and back protectors). Outside, cased.

I'm not so bold to go caseless. I really don't have confidence in the illusion of "Gorilla Glass" where you can watch videos on youtube of people dropping mallets and run the s7 with a car all day, but in the real word a 2ft drop could ruin it's pristine look.
While I like the feel of just the phone in my hand, I don't like it's magnetism for dust, prints, and oil smudges. I can't defend the aesthetic choice of making a phone ridiculously shiny and smooth, making it look gorgeous when it's clean, and then look like garbage 5 minutes later after handling it.
But I didn't buy the phone for it's look. I bought it for its processor, particularly gaming-related reasons, in which a case really helps for grip and avoiding those abhorrent navigation buttons. Phone be like "I know you're in an application with immersion mode and you're holding the phone landscape, but your palm lightly brushed against the recent button, so I'm going to go ahead and eject you from your game you're playing. What's that? You were playing a multiplayer match online and this slight inconvenience disqualified you from your match? Sorry bout that, but **** you anyway." It happens alot. When you're gaming in landscape, thats where your thumb and palm rest... on the top and bottom bezels. So you gotta uncomfortably ark your thumb to avoid touching the button, but a case you can play in landscape much more comfortably.
Since i take care of it, i don't use a case, just a full body skin protector.

Installation is a pain in the ass but i won't be worried about scratches anymore now and i love the look of it without a case.
If you got it insured, fair play but at over £250 for a new screen ...

my insurance covers till 1000 euros so im good (paying 3 euros a month)
Currently.. yes.. caseless.
My old S3 was caseless most of its life (with one of those screen protector packages that covered both sides.) Eventually the back one was taken off to make it look less grimey. S5 was also caseless except when I'd go backpacking or off road, in which case I'd slip it into an Incipio Dual Pro. (Glass screen protector was on it too.)
I've tried a few combinations on the S7E but since none of the glass options seem to be any good still, and every film based screen cover i've tried peels once I put it in a case, i've just been running with a Zagg HD screen protector and nothing else.
I love the feel of the phone, and reduced bulk, but I definitely have activities where I'd like to have SOME kinda protection on the phone. (Lack of such is how I managed to get some pretty gnarly scratches on the screen very early on.) Suffice it to say that I stopped caring about small scratches on the back a long time ago.

Anyone going naked....what are the results?

Just curious as I am using the Best Buy screen protector film and just can't stand the feel of the sharp edges etc so I want to remove it. Anyone gone a while without coverage and if so, any major scratches?
Thanks in advance
Hi @imapfsr,
using my device without a screen protector since 22/12/2016 and have no scrates
Everything should be fine if you use an protective cover for the phone.
I got an inch-long scratch on the screen where usually my right thumb roams around while it's been only a month I got this phone.
Thanks for your input....I was hoping for all positive results but I think Im still going to chance it. I do have a nice lined sleeve so I should be ok. It really is amazing how good this screen looks when you dont have anything on it so Im going to enjoy it instead of obsessing over it and keeping it mint for the next user when I sell it.
have you seen the scratch test videos on youtube for this phone? this phone is as scratch resistant as any other flashship device. i honestly have no idea what people could be doing to scratch this phone. i carry it with my keys in my pocket with zero worry about it scratching after seeing the test. i really don't know how you could scratch it unless you did it intentionally.
I occasionally use the case it came with but 90% of the time this thing is in it's Birthday suite, not a single scratch or mark on it. The Ceramic is such a gorgeous material and pretty much scratch proof! The glass used for the screen is also pretty robust. I wouldn't worry about this thing scratching... drops are what you should be afraid of!
Same here ...ive had rhis since November, I actually hate the leather case and opted for a slim transparent case from China which shows off the body...I tried to go completely naked but this phone is just waaaaay to slippery, dont have a screen protector...and wont put one one....not a single scratch...( Fingers crossed)
Most things wont scratch it, unless its "harder" than the material of the phone.
Watch out for things like SAND! and GLITTER!
Thanks everyone for your feedback. I am full on nude now...lots of hand cream to keep the phone from slipping out of my hands...no scratches on the front but surprise how quickly the ceramic back has developed tiny scratches but it still feels to good for any kind of wrap or skin.
Darn glitter ?

https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B0..._SY340_FMwebp_QL65&keywords=xiaomi+mimix+case also have a look at case fanatic they have a few different ones ive ordered some but they haven't arrived yet.
Mine is still mint. Leather case has never touched it. I am overly careful and don't even leave it on most tables and such unless there is a soft tissue, tablecloth or anything covering the surface. That can sort of be crippling for most people. Therefore it's mostly in a pocket clean of debris. I just can't stand cases. I always opt for custom skins for the back so I can put it down everywhere. Chances of finding someone making custom skins for this device must be slim. No luck yet. May have to buy one of those ready made ones. Seen a carbon type, but seems like the choices are few. Please hit me up if anyone else are looking and finds anyone that offers custom ones. Would be much appreciated.
Maybe I'll make my own, idk.
So I am two or three weeks in with no protection, front or back, and I hate to say it but the back of my phone is scratched up pretty bad. I use a sleeve to carry it around and I'm not sure if that is what is causing it. Just curious if anyone else has had bad scratching our if it's just me.
No screen protector, no casing, no nothing. Had it since december 19th. No scratches, still pristine.
It's forbidden where I live, unfortunately.
What is forbidden? Going naked?
I never use the film screen protectors, presently [as with all my past phones] using the provided leather case [will eventually go to a flip cover case - always have them so comfortable with them].
I prefer carrying my phone naked. Especially, when it's a nice looking phone. You just have to be conscious of having your phone and grip it tight while holding it as opposed to casually holding it in a relaxed manner. Nothing will happen to it if you consciously take care of it. At best, put it in your back pocket while walking and not using it, but don't forget it's there
i have been using this naked since i purchased in September 17. Only issue is ceramic is very slippery, so use side sticker atleast to increase grip.
something like this https://www.amazon.com/Decalrus-Pro...coding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=2PK292A230JGWCC1JQTT
but put only on side, no back, no bottom and up

Anyone using their device without a screen protector - resaults?

Hello Guys!
I just got my Mi Mix yesteday from wondamobile (2 days shipping to DK, can't believe it!)
Anyway, currently i got a screen protector on my device, but I don't really like it.
I'm wondering if anyone is rocking their beast of a device without one, and hows the resault?
Normally i never use screen protectors on my phones, and they have always been fine - just can't stand the thought about this beauty being scratched
I still have a Z1 without hairline scratches. And that has been going without the pre-glued ASF (Anti shatter film) since day 1. So you should probably not go by me. The scratch test has been referenced countless times which shows it handles itself just as good as any other flagship selling these days. It all depends on you not having sandy pockets. If that is too much maintenance for you, than it is a matter of time.
I also give my babies an oleophobic coating from time to time. Gives no scratch resistance really, but it might help against some hairline scratches. I think some of them occur when people go a long time without cleaning their screen.
I use no protector since I got mine in November, just like with any other phone. Not a slightest scratch.
What I can't stand are ugly, poorly adhered, edge dirt attracting, screen quality limiting screen protectors.
No screen protector on mine, going on 6 weeks now. No hairlines or other scratches.
I do have the OEM leather case as it helps decrease the slipperiness of the Mix.
Cheers
J

Try one of the several liquid sealers available.
Do they work?
It's virtually impossible to prove in real life daily use if it has actually prevented any scraching/etc....
but,it couldn't hurt anything (I've used 'em on several phones w/no ill effects or scratching afterwards).
Haven't applied anything to the Mix just yet & my display looks as new as the day I got it six weeks ago.

I never use any screen protectors and I never had any scratches. Have beeen using the Mi Mix for over a month now and I have also no scratches in the screen.
Very nice to hear the screen holds up!
I peeled mine off, don't regret it
I have used screen protectors very sparsely through the years. Note 4 & 5 without, but Mi Mix I have installed SPs, and recent phone purchases, V20 & Phab 2 Pro I have. Not to be a wet wash-cloth, but I understand the Mix does not have gorilla glass (or other protection), so I am concerned (not to disparage others) about the possibility of a scratch when life's funny little catastrophes occur.
Just doing my job as a wet blanket.
My phone came with a tempered glass screen protector on it. After about two weeks I removed it as it took away from the gorgeous screen.
I later ordered an additional tempered glass screen protector from Amazon but it did not cover the edges of the screen and the edges it did cover appeared to be not sealed in the screen. It was removed within a week.
For the past month I have been rocking the phone with out any screen protection and the following case below and love it. No scratches or drops.

If you haven't bought or used a Mi Mix you probably don't understand how the phone feels in the hand or how fragile it is.
Once you have done one of these two things, then you can better positively comment on your experience.
Until then, your comments are null and void.
The way i see it is like this, case or no case would sometimes depend on phones, but quite often it's down to preference.
Sure, you may put on some extra protected case if the phone is fragile (slippery) like the Mix, but i have seen it sooooo many times people put on extra big case on any phone (iphone, HTC, galaxy...you named it).
Some people just prefer that extra protection and they don't mind the extra weight/bulk the case increase. Some prefer minimal profile case to try keep the phone at it's original style. Some just put on protection back for scratch and slippery protection. And finally some people would rock their phone without protection what so ever no matter what phone they have.
So at the end of the day, you may choose what to use on your phone, and it could change depends on how fragile/scratch resistence the phone is, but deep down, you know you have a preference as long as this isn't your first phone.

I understand. Everyone has their own preference and comfort level. I'm use to snap on rear covers for all of my phones.
I am sure your phone will fair well as you sound like you take care of them.
As far as the screen though. I can't recommend having a tempered glass protection. Just go bare.

Anybody using their OnePlus 3 Naked? How good or bad is it to drops or dents?

I am thinking of using my phone naked now, i really love the aluminium frame plus mine is soft gold so its a pretty classy feel
i have been investing on cases and tempered glasses a lot every time to find a worn out case after use of just 1 month or a cracked tempered glass after a significant drop
I drop my phone a lot not big drops but yeah significant ones rarely a big one, thats mostly dude to the charging wire getting hooked somewhere or trying to find my glasses in the dark only to find i swiped my phone off the table or the phone slipping off my hand.
What do you guys suggest?
I had once or twice had a significant drop when my phone was naked and surprising it hardly took a scratch on the frame, so i think the phone is sturdy enough but i obviously wont risk it.
Any suggestions/experiences of using phone naked?
Please hold off Cases or tempered glass suggestions rather than spamming because Here in India i get pretty cheaper alternative so i rather wear 10 cases than buy an expensive case because branded cases/glasses are comparatively pretty expensive than the local ones which are better value for money.
Still if someone has a good indian deal its fine
I have two pretty nice dents in the corners of mine... which led to me getting a case.
My preference would be to never use a case (what's the point of a super thin phone if you're going to put a case on it?).
But this phone it just too slippery.
I've never had a problem holding on to my previous phones; this one would slip out of my hand several times a week.
I'm sure the case has kept me from destroying the phone.

Don't use it without case m8! It's asking for problems, what you could do is get a dbrand skin and ofcourse a tempered glass protector but those do not really help with nasty drops!
