[Bug?] Assistant needs to update but can't download it. - Google Pixel 5 Questions & Answers

Hello,
from a couple of days I experience this problem:
Everytime I try to use the vocal assistant, this screen appear, it asks to download some required updates, but for some reasons it can't download it whatever the connection is (wifi or 4g).
Basically I can't use the vocal assistant anymore.
Can I report this bug anywhere?

I found this:
https://www.google.com/appserve/mkt...PicWf6KpoLr4gdMJTUs8qPlONd9aF-IV_LPzbJ25KLO2w
Looks like it's a bug affecting some languages.
A temporary fix it's adding a second language to the assistant, like EN-US.

[Q] Google Nav: no turn-by-turn or Ivona voices

On my Bionic, I used to be able to use Google Nav with turn-by-turn instructions & Ivona voice. For the past few months, I can't get either to work with it. I've just been using Waze since it does give TBT, but I miss the Ivona voices.
I've done google searches on both these problems, and turned up nothing useful.
I've deleted cache, un-installed & re-installed Ivona, done the whole "set the default/play the example/reset the default" thing, un-installed Google Maps updates, re-installed the updates, gone into settings & disabled Google voice...nothing seems to work.
Does anyone know of a way to get one or both of these things to work??? It's making me nuts.
Or, failing that, any suggestions for a good GPS program that WILL let me use the Ivona voices? I miss the Aussie girl telling me where to go.
On JB, rooted. No special ROMs but would GLADLY put one on if it would solve the problem.
I have had the issue of no voice during navigation once in a while. I generally keep the voice on mute, but sometimes when I turn it on, I don't get the voice nav. If I keep it set for voice (not muted) and restart the phone, I get the voice back. I don't know anything about Ivona voice, though.

Click to collapse
When this happens, do you not get any voice, or do you not get turn-by-turn? I always get a voice, just not the one I want and not as detailed as I want.
Typically I get the normal voice nav, but on a few occasions I would get no voice. A restart would bring it back. Apps like Google Now still 'talk' even when voice nav is silent. Have you checked with the Ivona dev or website?
Only the IVONA US voice (Kendra) will work for me in Google Navigation; not Ivona UK (Amy) or Australia (Nicole).
Even though Amy is selected as default, Kendra's voice is used in Google Nav. However Amy's voice plays correctly in all other apps.
Interesting. I'll give her a try!
Just an update, if it can help anyone
I'm going to follow-up on this, in case anyone was using Ivona & gave up.
With the latest Google Maps update (the one that removes the Navigation icon), I can use Ivona...mostly. Maps starts navigation with the standard voice, then quickly switches to my Ivona (Aussie Nicole, in my case) & gives turn-by-turn. If I re-route, then the standard voice comes back until it figures out where it wants me to go & it's back to Ivona.
So...if you had Ivona, dumped it because it wouldn't work or could only get one voice to work, try it again. It seems to be working again.
If It Helps Anyone...
I had this problem on my Note 2 (with and without cyanogen) - it would not use Ivona in google maps tts output, no matter how many settings I tinkered with. The fix for this was to download an app to force locale settings - MoreLocale2 and Set Locale and Language from the Google play store both worked perfectly when I set them to proper "English - United States".
Interesting. I use IVONA for a while, but nowadays I switched to Google's TTS (not Pico, the new Google one) that arguably sounds as good as IVONA.

[Q] Latest unrooted ROM - No Nav Working - Help?

I had to use my company iPhone today because I can't seem to get ANY navigation program for my Samsung Galaxy Camera to work.
- Native Google Maps/Navigation says there is no network connection even though I can go in Chrome on the device and connect and find things (but no step-by-step) using maps.google.com and Gmail and other network programs from Google and others work fine. Since the Galaxy Camera supports a SIM card but I never use it (I carry a WiFi dongle/MiFi) I'm wondering if it is trying to get on AT&T even though the WiFi is active?
- Tried CoPilot GPS, and it insisted on first installing their offline maps that are 13 Gigs. Wouldn't let me set it up to use my SD card, and wouldn't let me use without installing maps first
- Tried MapFactor Navigation and the free version won't let you enter a street address. You can give country, then state, then street, but unless you can find a cross street it knows about, you get directions that are "in the area". Paid version supposedly supports the usual address search, but who wants to pay to find out if it really does?
Anything that I can do to get Google Maps to work right or some other program that will work if I always have WiFi?
After a couple hours of Google Fu, I discovered the issue was with the latest version of the Maps application. When Google removed Latitude it also messes with the setting for whether to report location or not, and gets confused.
To fix this you have to go into Application Manager, go to Maps, choose "Uninstall Updates". Then go to the Play Store and choose to update. When it finishes the update and you see the button in the store change to "Open" make SURE to open the application from there. That will then give you the chance to accept the new terms of service, and to select the proper location reporting setting.
After that it works properly. Supposedly several folks with other Galaxy products and the latest Nexus products encountered the same issue.

Voice commands without Google Assistant

Hi everybody
Until a couple of days ago, I was able to use voice commands in Android Auto without the need for Google Assistant. Now it seems that Google has made some changes that force me to use assistant if I want to use voice commands.
Is there a way I can work around this? There's no way I am giving Google permission to use my web and app activity or my location history. It's not necessary for voice to work since it worked perfectly without these permissions in the past.
Any ideas? Is reverting back to an older version of AA an option?
I have this same issue. At one point I got around it by changing my country of origin to a country where they haven't yet implemented android assistant (giving the voice an Australian like accent), but i eventually gave up and went back to USA without assistant. I am also curious if there is any way around it
Same here, Android Auto was working fine before Google Assistant was introduced, with plain voice search, and it was super useful to just say OK Google, Play something on Spotify, or OK Google, Go to address this and that. Now the only thing we get back from Google is "When it's safe, you'll first need to tap on the notification". No way I'm turning on Web, Location, Device and Voice History.
Has anybody found a solution to this? Google Assistant requires full access to just about everything Google in order to operate.
I don't want to give Google my entire search access just to use Android Auto.
There was a work-around where you could set your language to US Virgin Islands or something (Where google assistant wasn't live yet), but in the end I decided to not use the microphone in Android Auto anymore

Google Now/search crashing constantly after today's update

So they seemingly fixed the annoying Google Play Services bug with an update earlier today. However I also just received an update to the main Google app (to version 8.3.14.21.arm64) and I pretty much can't type more than a few letters - or occasionally a few words - into the Google search field (whether accessed through the search bar or from the main Google Now feed pane) without an instant crash back to the home screen.
Only way to use Google search now for me is the old fashioned round-about way through a web browser.
Anyone else having this problem?
First time in seven years I've had a smartphone that wasn't a Samsung and I'm almost immediately hit by two of the most obnoxious Google app issues I've had in years. Good thing I'm not paranoid...
Uninstalling and reinstalling the updates for Google appears to have fixed the issue.
That was unfortunately a temporary fix. It's back to crashing whenever I type a few letters in the search field.

Android Auto and Google Assistant Problem!

Dear all,
My problem with AA is the following:
Google Assistant (currently used in AA) does not work with many languages (most of the small languages are excluded) which is a big problem when pronouncing an address in Google Maps using that language.
In the past AA used the "Speech to text" module, which supports most "small" languages and works flawlessly (eg when pronouncing an address in Google Maps directly on a mobile phone).
Is there a way, patch or similar, to allow AA to use the "speech to text" module again, instead of Google assistant?
Thanks in advance
I have exactly the same problem. Wrote to Waze. I am considering getting an Iphone for Android auto...
Only with tricks. I made it work with Tasker script. But is a big script which does many other things, and if i remember well it needs root. The basic idea which I use Is this if anyone want to re create it:
- Detect if android auto is running.
-If android auto is running, change keyboard to Google voice (so now speak to every app instead of writing).
When you use any app in android auto, for example waze, just pressing the icon to open keyboard to mobile to write there, which is happening but now in phone what is actually open is Google voice (as this is now the "keyboard" so you just speak as you done at past. . It works the same.
- when you exit android auto, tasker detect it and put back the keyboard you was using..
The script to change keyboard need root as i remember. There was other most complicated ways which didn't need root. I don't know if still work. Most I tried wasn't..
You can make it more complicated. For example, using Google voice only to specific applications, and not all, if you also need this. I may create a YouTube video for this and post it here if i have time.
Problem solved with AA Speech 2 Text app.
