Cant cast screen to tv. - Google Pixel 5 Questions & Answers

Is anyone able to get casting to work, when I press cast the only device my p5 can see is my nest mini, my previous phones could see all my smart tvs and boxes to cast to, but not even an option to scan devices on the pixel, anyone know of a solution? thanks.

Google got rid of Miracast on Pixel devices, Chromecast support only.

Did Miracast work on the first Pixel? I had a Pixel 2 XL and I was never able to use Miracast. Only Chromecast.

I think it did? Google disabled the feature after Pixel 2 I think.

So this £600 sorta flagship pixel I just bought can't even do something even cheap £100 Chinese phones can, unless I spend even more money with google?! I'm starting to dislike this phone more and more. I only really got it for the camera and I'm not even impressed with that tbh.

Wireless HDMI adapter

On the new 4.2 'what's new' website from android it says
" Share what’s on your phone on the big screen.
Android 4.2 allows devices to enable wireless display. You can share movies, YouTube videos, and anything that’s on your screen on an HDTV. Just connect a wireless display adapter to any HDMI-enabled TV to mirror what’s on your screen quickly and easily."

This makes me curious. Searched already for that, but it looks like only devices for notebooks including an Intel wireless chip are supported right now.
But I'm looking forward to project my nexus 10 screen wireless to my TV.
Does anybody know which devices are when available? And more important which devices are compatible with the nexus 10?

This is called Miracast. Essentially, international standard of the Mac's Airplay, or Intel's WiDi. Though I have heard its not quite ready yet on Nexus 10.

I'm pretty sure Miracast is going to be integrated into WiDi. Also, the guy I talked to from Google said the Nexus 10 will ship with Miracast enabled.
But what I'm really wondering is, can I use a WiFi enabled device, or something plugged into a router (My PC) as a receiver, without buying a $70 box? If it's just a WiFi protocol, why shouldn't this work?
I have yet to see this confirmed for the Nexus 10. You say a guy from Google says it has it, but other people are reporting that they can't find it on their devices. Is it a software thing, or is the wireless dongle required? I'd love to learn more about it. Would be great for presentations and stuff.
So far this supports Miracast but Ive read the reviews on Amazon and it seems the device isnt quite ready.
Soon as I get my N10 Im heading out to get this and post back to see if it does indeed work and if N10 does have Miracast enabled.

My understanding is that miracast is a point to point wifi, no router involved. My thoughts is that they do this for bandwidth issues.

Wireless Display (Miracast)

Has anyone actually managed to make the Nexus 4 Wireless Display option work? Not much info around the web on it. Mainly people failing miserably.
I have an LG TV (47LM6610) which (apparently) supports "Screen Share" and it detects the Nexus 4, sends it an invite, I accept on the Nexus, the TV shows the Nexus as a connected device but the Nexus still shows nothing in its Wireless Display devices list.
Tried everything! Have emailed LG support and they were pretty dismissive and simply confirmed that it "should work". Sent an enquiry to Google support but not holding my breath.
Anyone had any luck with this or is it yet another half baked feature?
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 2
Depends whether it's half baked on the TV or the phone
What happens often with these new standards is nobody talks to each other so they all implement it slightly differently.
Hilarious (or sad?) that one of the Nexus 4's major features gets released without a single compatible device?! Even when using two devices from the same manufacturer.
I'd love to hear a success story but I highly doubt there is one out there.

Neither sad nor hilarious, just a classical case of the technological forerunner. Happened to pretty much every nontrivial technology. Some (like bluetooth profiles) did not overcome their problems till this day.
Regarding LG, their TV branch does not necessary even talk to the smartphone branch, much less to google.
Hopefully we'll see some proper miracast sinks sooner rather than later - at least there's demonstration videos showing up lately, that should be a good sign?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JL14GaqzIUw
Latency seems quite good from what I can tell. I also like form factor!
Now the dropped frames on the other hand.. I guess the source is to blame? Let's see if the Nexus 4 does a better job at that

Obviously one product needs to be released before the other, especially one sided puts pressure to get implemented on the other side. Also its a software technology so that it's made by lg has no relevance whatsoever.
As far as I remember, Bluetooth existed on handsets long before anything used it. also TV software is a new thing, can't expect it to launch with that much implementation with phones when synergy between phones and TVs really has only been around for around two years or so.
Besides, when miracast was announced it was clear it was not backward compatible.
I've ordered the Netgear PTV3000 even that still have some bugs but I think they will update the firmware to connect with Nexus 4. There is a YouTube demonstrate it can work with Sony Phone that is Miracast support.

It is actually the other way round: Netgear PTV3000 is not known to properly support Miracast yet.
Here is a list of certified Miracast receivers:

and Netgear PTV3000 is nowhere to be seen. The same for LG TV sets.
Netgear themselves says:

But LG TVs do mention WiFi Screen Share and WiDi. Its unlikely that they would mention Miracast as its not a very marketing friendly.
I suppose its for LG to clarify...

If it doesn't say Miracast, then assume it's not compatible.

Yes, WiDi v3.5 was announced just recently in last september.
Which means current LG TVs are likely to sport older WiDi versions which are not miracast compatible and won't connect to Nexus4 (or any other Miracast device for that matter).
Dying to find out
This is probably my most desired feature on this handset having tried for years to create software and services that would do it on all my other phones.
My flatmate has an HTC MediaLink HD, and from what I understand from the protocols and how that works, using wifi direct etc and seeing the screen mirroring work on his One X, I don't see any reason why it shouldn't work with the N4, but I guess only time will tell - yep, still waiting for my "order confirmation" to be turned into a "tracking email"
As soon as I get it and tried it out I'll post back.
Use iMediaShare!
I have the Samsung Allshare Wireless Hub. It does not work with the Nexus 4. It pairs, but will not display audio/video at all.
Isn't it funny how the 3 new "standards" the N4 is pushing aren't really that universal?
Devices claiming Miracast devices don't work with the N4, yet
The Nokia Qi Chargers don't work with the Nexus 4
Slimport isn't as ubiquitous as MHL
That does DLNA not Miracast.

DLNA is merely a "file fetcher". A network drive interface.
Don't get me wrong that is extremely useful. I download torrents on my phone and play them on my TV all day. But you know what? I'd actually buy most movies and shows I watch if I could mirror Google TV to my TV. No, I am not gonna buy a box for that, it defeats the purpose to me. I'd buy blu-rays if I wanted to use extra hookups.

[Q] Wireless display over wifi and HTC One : miracast ?

Hi,
I'm looking for a device that would allow me to replicate the screen of my HTC one on my full HD TV.
I would like to to able to do the same thing with the same device but with my mac
I think my solution is called miracast.
Am i right ?
Which device is known to work perfectly with the HTC One ?
Any idea of how to make it work with my macbook pro and iPad ?
many thanks !
HD MediaLink
Are you talking about the HD Media Link? This little accessory mirrors the screen on the HTC One to your TV. But depending on what you're doing, your experience may vary. If you like to look at photos and basically anything still, then this will work. But any fast paced moving pixels, forget about it. The only game that I've tried that works well is angry birds, but even then it stutters. I don't know how you plan on using it, but I'd say it's not worth $90. ATT gave it away for free during their preorder promotion.
This device, to the best of my knowledge, does not work with any other device besides HTC devices with at least Sense 4.0. If you want your mac/iphone/ipod to work, you need to get an appletv. Hope this helps.

Anyone have try Netgear PTV3000 with HTC One?
According to Google, the HTC One supports Miracast, but for your Apple devices only Airplay will work. Try to find a device that supports both.

Miracast should be universal solution for Android devices, it is still young technology and there is not much information or tests and reviews.

Bit of a flop about this is that we can't use existing technology, wireless connection, TV, PC's or consoles for that, like with DLNA. Those are designated dongles that plug into TV or monitor. If you type "miracast" in eBay search you'll find some dongles, but IMHO they are still too expensive, on par with Android media players which are far more complex and versatile. There are some hints that it can be enabled in Windows 7/8.1 using Intel WiDi but that is hardware limited. Maybe not for long

I have a Raspberry Pi connected to my TV, running XBMC (xbian).
I can simply use the "Select Player" option in the top right menu on my HTC when viewing pictures and select my XBMC device (xbian) I can then control the slideshow, shown on my TV pretty cool.
The videos I made with the HTC One are using 22mbit/s bitrate (ridiculously high) so that will never work via Wifi (unless you have a very expensive 11ac router).
But I could test it with other videos of course... will report back.
using the Yatse app, you will be able to stream anything to XBMC btw... but its a paid app. I think it uses DLNA tech.

Apple intros full screen mirroring today. C'mon Google?!

We all know that Chromecast has the ability to play local files directly from a computer, tablet, or phone. Why they are holding out we don't really know... but they sure let Apple beat them to the punch IMHO... via Mavericks you can now mirror your entire screen to your TV through apple TV. With your phone and iPad as well I believe. I know Google saw this coming... why they didn't try and steal Apple's thunder and release this a while back could be a big mistake. I suddenly have Apple envy.

Get a fast pc and screen cast. Chromecast does it.
I've been through the DLNA craziness (and still use it lol) and I don't intend to repeat it with Miracast.
I can screen cast my phone just by buying a $100 HTC Media Link device - which, I won't.
My old MHL rig removes the convenience of control from my couch but it's cheap and works very well.
I'm sure that an iPhone and Apple TV work great together. If that's what you want, cool.
I'm still interested in Chromecast just for internet content. Different strokes amigo.

Android started supporting miracast in 4.2.
My Nexus 4 can Miiracast. It works. I would like Chromecast do also do this. I have to switch between too many devices in order to successfully keep cable at bay. Right now Roku, Chromecast, Push2tv, Appletv and Pips Xios. Someday one will do it all. Roku well underway.

I *thought* my N4 did, but wasn't certain never having tried it. Good to know!
Miracast is the technology that allows mirroring your screen. It's an industry standard that is supported on Windows 8.1 and Android 4.2+. Some devices like the Nenux 10 didn't get it until 4.3. Chromecast is not for mirroing, although it would be nice to have all these features in one package it's not what Chromecast is designed for. I have Miracast and Chromecast. Once Chromecast SDK is out of beta and developers release apps it will be way better then mirroring although there are cases where mirroring is required to achieve the results you want (i.e. mirror screen of an app) but for media purposes Chromecast is the ticket. Not if Google would just release the SDK out of beta...
Apple has a controlled environment so they can release something quicker as there are less variables to deal with however I would much rather wait for an industry standard solution then have to use an Apple device and be bound by Apple's BS rules!

As stated android already supports mirracast. instead of appletv by a 50 dollar widi and you can mirror you android or a laptop.
That said I agree google needs to release their SDK soon.
Airplay Mirroring has been available since the last version of Mac OS X (Mountain Lion) and works like wireless display (extending or mirroring desktop). Airplay Mirroring can also be done with iOS devices with A5 or greater processor. Nexus 4 (and Android 4.2) introduced Miracast, which allows mirroring but through a WiFi Direct (peer to peer). As others have mentioned, Windows 8.1 has also added Miracast, but Intel WiDi (wireless display) 3.5+ is compatible with Miracast, also. Airplay runs though your router with Miracast is a WiFi Direct connection (meaning your range is limited by the distance of the device and both devices need a Miracast-certified WiFi adapter .. no wired devices)

ChromeCast Ultra doesn't work on my TV

Hi,
I have buy a chromecast ultra at the airport yesterday. I have try to connect it to my TV without success.
At the first boot, I have a black screen on my TV and my android phone with google home apps saying that their is an update for my Chromecast ultra.
Now, if I make a factory reset or press the reset button I get this :
- On the TV, I can see a blue screen with Chromecast Ultra and a yellow circle. After a few seconds, the chromecast seems reboot, the screen become black and the LED on the chromecast is blinking in white.
- I can configure the chromecast using google home apps or the chrome extension. After the configuration, the screen on the TV is always black and the LED on the chromecast ultra is white and fix.
You can see all of this on the video below :

I have only one HDMI port on the TV and I don't know the manufacturer. Devices like SOny PS3 work on my TV using HDMI. I have disconnect and reconnect all but it doesn't change anything.
Google say that some old TV are not compatible with their device. Can you help me to solve the problem ?
Thanks for your help.

Yes it may be meant for 4K TVs but it should still display on lower resolutions as well.
My suggestion is to bring the unit back to where you bought it and let them test it on one of their monitors and see if they get screen.
It is very possible you just got a lemon unit.
I can't bring back the unit. I have buy it in an airport during holiday.
I test it on the new TV of a friend, I get a picture. I hope that the device can work on old TV or on TV that is not smart.
Is there a solution to make the ChromeCast Ultra compatible with my old TV ? Is there a configuration file that I can edit or an adaptator that I can put between the ChromeCast and my TV ?
Thanks,

The age of the TV doesn't matter...If it has an HDMI input then it should display in whatever resolution the TV supports.
Since it works on other TVs the only thing left is that the Input to the TV is bad.
Is there another input you can try it on?

So this is a French TV? (which could explain your problem.)
What Airport did you buy this Chromecast?
I'm going to bet that you have a SECAM TV but the CCast may only supports NTSC or PAL.
If you bought this in the US it is possible it won't support a SECAM TV but the UK version might since PAL and SECAM are very similar.
It's a combination of things working against you here...Yes the TV is a bit old and not very forgiving in what signals it will accept. coupled with the fact that France, and the Former Soviet countries were the only ones who used the SECAM standard where most of Europe uses PAL and the rest of the world uses NTSC.
The cheapest solution is probably to buy a new TV as there is no guarantee that any CCast will work with that one.
You could probably buy a PAL adapter and convert the signal but that is likely to cost as much as a new TV will.
Thanks for your answer.
I don't know if my TV is Secam or Pal. I only use it with my Sony PS3.
I have buy the ChromeCast in Australia.

I'm guessing your TV was one of the tweener models many people got stuck with in the time where SD was being phased out and Digital standards were not yet set.
Hello,
I have the same issue here and it seems that the chromecast is outputting at 1080p when ur TVs are only going up to 480p
Not nice to mention this risk on google side
