I think Samsung have their own IPS like branding panel which is PLS (Plane Line Switching) .
FYI: IPS is also based on the TFT technology
Most people focuses on the fact that the camera is not 48MP but they seem to forget that the sensor is 1/2" inches, which is bigger than most smartphones.
1/2" sensor, 1.6 pixel size, that's GREAT hardware.

Anyone coming from the Pixel 3 notice colors are not as saturated on the 4XL?

I'm coming from the Pixel 3 (not XL) and just got my 4XL today. I noticed my 4xl's display is not as saturated as my pixel 3's. Anyone else coming from the Pixel 3 notice it as well? I know the smaller pixel 3 had an LG panel and the 4 XL has a Samsung panel so I'm sure that's why but looking at them side by side, my 4 XL's colors look more washed out. It also doesn't seem as bright as my pixel 3's
Yes! I noticed and also slow motion have so much grains not pretty clear.

The screen is great on my 4XL, I've had all generations of the pixel phones (XL variants), the only real disappointing screen for me was the 2XL. If you are getting noise or grain on your images, that is probably due to low light situations which is to be somewhat expected. The 4XL has a very decent panel, the only thing it might lack is a bit of extra brightness.

Are both phone's colors set to the same option? Natural, Boosted, or Adaptive?

90hz Display?

Total Newb here, so plz go easy on me. 4a 5G is said to have a 90hz display. Is this refresh rate? If so, mine is only reporting 60hz, and I dont know why...? Any ideas?
pixel 4a 5g display has 60Hz

From Pixel 4 XL to Pixel 4a 5g?

Hello everybody,
I am currently using a Pixel 4XL, which is still in perfect shape.
It is a great phone and i am loving it, however there are a few things that are starting to get annoying, mainly:
- face unlock is great, but we are wearing masks all the day out of home (and i think we will have to for many months)...so it is a pain to unlock the phone: i wish I had a fingerprint scanner like my previous Pixel 3a xl.
- battery life is quite terrible...i cannot use 90hz screen if i want some sort of decent battery life...seems like Pixel 4a xl is great for battery life.
- design and weight: Pixel 4 XL really weights more than 3a xl (and so 4a 5g). Pixel 4a 5g has the same screen real estate but is more compact.
- 64gb vs 128gb
Aspects that make me worry about the switch:
- i love taking a great amount of fast point and shoot pictures; i fear that Pixel 4a 5g will be considerably slower in processing many pictures taken in few seconds, since it has a slower processor and no dedicated core.
- screen quality: i think that Pixel 4a 5g has a great brightness level, but i don't know if screen quality can be a problem coming from 4 XL (4k vs fullhd). pixel 3a xl had a bad panel, it was one the main reason that forced me to change phone.
Someone here switched to Pixel 4 XL to Pixel 4a 5g?
I look forward to some opinions, thank You all!

Thank you for your feedback.
When i am out of home face unlock makes me mad, because i have to wear a mask, but it is indeed a great feature (if Google would have decided to have also a fingerprint scanner on the back the phone would have been perfect).
My fear is to miss screen quality (4k, unfortunately most of the time 90hz is disabled to save battery) and processor performance, especially in elaborating pictures since the dedicated core is missing in 4a 5g and 5.

just flash linage os or pixeldust and you will get much better screen on time. save the pixel 4xl.
I received a 4A 5G from Google for participating in special Pixel event just before the phone launched. It's a nice phone and if I didn't have my 4XL I would be "okay" with it. I used it for a day or two and put my sim back in my 4XL. It's just a half step back in my opinion, haptic motor, screen, speakers, speed, just overall a compromise. I love that Google does an affordable phone but they need to drop a real specced out phone in 2021....PLEASE
