problems with roms - Redmi K20 Pro / Xiaomi Mi 9T Pro Questions & Answe

(Im spanish, sorry if my english has errors or is really bad )
Hi, i've got a problem, I spent all day trying to fix a wrong rom installation but nothing works.
I was using Revolution Remix 8.6.2 and I wanted to try the new official hentaiOS, so I made a complete twrp backup of everything and I copied it to my computer, I wiped system, data, dalvick, and cache, and I flash hentaiOS rom zip. It was a normal bootloop so I just wiped all and restored the backup, but it didnt work (System had magisk with some modules but nothing happend in the previous reboots), so I rebooted into recovery to flash the clean RROS zip and try restoring only some parts of the backup to see which partition was causing the bootloop, but I was unable to boot into recovery, I used mi flash with miui 12 fastboot rom, it worked so I flashed TWRP again and tried to install RROS but nothing works.
I already tried with RROS 8.6.2, 8.6.1 and 8.6.0 but no one works, now Im gonna try with ArrowOS (It didn't work) but I want to use RROS, what can I do?

TWRP deletes my OS [LineageOS][Redmi4x]

So I have a lineageOS on my redmi 4x and a twrp recovery, but whenever I try to flash something new from TWRP (I tried magisk and some other thing) it completely deleted my OS, I had a backup so its not a problem, but how could I flash something new again? Should I wipe something or what?
Use Latest 3.1.1/3.2.0 TWRP from official TWRP page. It's a Recovery Problem.. if you're On N go for latest 3.2.0 and Also check if you're Device is not encrypted (like you can't see Internal storage In TWRP) Clean Flash ROM, If anything Doesn't work... This is strange, I heard this issue the first time. Maybe Recovery Problem, Try and Reply.

[James] Moto E5 Play won't boot into Custom ROM(s)

Device variant: XT19121-2 James
Chipset: MSM8920
After repeated failed flashes I am on stock firmware using this guide. Phone boots and works normally right now, but I can't seem to flash any Custom ROMs on to my phone. I was using this post to flash Lineage OS 15.1, which worked successfully at first, but the WiFi wasn't working so I reflashed it. It still didn't work so I did it again, wiping Dalvik/Cache too. After the second flash attempt, my phone began to only flicker on and off. I made sure to always clean flash, factory resetting, wiping Cache and Dalvik, even formatting data, but no matter what I do it doesn't work. Also attempted other GSI images (arm, A-only) like AOSP, ResurrectionRemix and phhusson's Lineage OS 15.1 But they all failed too. I am using TWRP for James v 3.3.1 although I did also try other TWRP images like v 3.2.1 . But it makes no difference. Also used Magisk v19 like some guides suggested but whether I have Magisk or not, it doesn't work. Even made sure to push the fstab.qcom file to /vendor. Anytime a Custom ROM is flashed whether zip or GSI img it goes past the initial "bad key" or "N/A" screen and starts flickering on and off. Bootloader and TWRP works fine, but that's about it. Everytime a flash fails I go back to stock firmware (which always works) and try another ROM. I wonder why the first attempt worked but doesn't anymore even if I mirror the exact steps I took from stock. If anyone has any solutions I would be really grateful. Let me know if you need any more information.
have you taken any recent OTA updates?

Nope. Still on the 8.0.0 version the stock firmware comes in.

Okay give this a try, I'm assuming you have old root access and TWRP installed.
Download any Android 9 GSI of your liking, boot to TWRP.
Do a complete nandroid backup of the stock firmware.
Do a factory reset then wipe system partition.
Next flash your GSI that you downloaded to your system partition.
After flashing is complete of the GSI reboot to recovery.
After reboot completed flash your open Gapps zip. Then reflash Magisk.
if you get a error message when flashing g apps then you will need to use magic g apps with magisk as it will install them systemless. I have to do this on my device because the partition doesn't have enough space.
Give that a try and let me know how it goes if you have any questions feel free to ask.

I also just noticed you are using the latest version of TWRP 3.3.1. I'm not sure if you originally rooted and installed TWRP with the original patched version by Cody or not, but if so make sure with the new version that you format your data partition to f2fs. As this will ensure correct mounting of the data partition.

Followed these steps exactly, including formatting the data partition to f2fs, and the same problem still persists. Screen just keeps turning on and off in a loop without booting into the ROM. I downloaded the Lineage OS 16.0 GSI A-only Arm version for reference.
I am having the same issue
Using XT1921-1
Latest TWRP
Have tried LOS 15, LOS 16, AOSP 8.1, AOSP 9.0
Have tried flashing in fastboot and TWRP
Have tried every combo of wipe/factory reset/format data and magisk flash possible
have tried stock recovery, have tried no verity, have tried stock boot.img
nothing works. only able to produce powered on (black and blank) screen that turns on and off for a minute before returning to bootloader
PLEASE HELP
think i might need a 8.0 GSI but cant find one anywhere
I eventually got RR to boot on the james xt-1921-3 I installed XT1921-3_JAMES_T_MPCS_8.0.0_OCPS27.91-150-5-1-3_cid21 as a base, then used boot and vendor partitions from JAMES_T_OCP27.91-51-4_cid21_subsidy-TMO_RSU_regulatory-DEFAULT_CFC and it finally worked.

Message me, I'll host a TWRP backup for the XT-1921-3 that boots RR 6.1
Download the file from this post https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/software/universal-dm-verity-forceencrypt-t3817389 , then using fastboot, flash the vendor and boot img
fastboot flash vendor vendor.img
fastboot flash boot boot.img
then boot into recovery and flash the file from that post to disable dm-verity and force encrytion, after that flash magisk, then reboot to bootloader, at command prompt-
fastboot erase userdata
fastboot erase cache
fastboot reboot
that should get you booted - profit

Flashing problem on Chinese version K20 Pro (raphael)

Hello there,
I'm using the Xiaomi.eu latest Beta rom ATM. I'm trying to flash other roms (like lineage OS 17.1 for example) but it seems to reboot to fastboot everytime. I've tried doing a clean flash, formatting data, dirty flashing. Nothing seems to help it boot into the new rom.
Clearly I'm doing something wrong. If I try flashing the recommended Chinese vendor firmware (stable version), I get an error 7..but my TWRP is up to date as recommended.
If anyone has any idea where I'm going wrong, that would help a lot.
Thanks

Don't know what your doing wrong, but this is my failsafe method should nothing else work.
Flash the latest Chinese 11.0.5 fastboot ROM. Make sure you don't lock the bootloader if using the Mi Flash Tool.
Boot into MIUI once to allow it to finalise the install, you don't need to do the initial phone setup once it boots into MIUI.
Boot into fastboot and install TWRP. I recommend the latest from mauronofrio which should be 3.1.1-32
Boot immediately into TWRP. I use the volume up button while powering up the phone.
Perform a factory reset in TWRP (using the swipe button), then format data (need to type 'yes' to confirm).
Reboot into TWRP using the TWRP boot menu, this ensures the newly formatted data partition is correctly mounted.
Copy over the ROM you want and GApps if needed, then flash.
Boot into your new ROM, everything should be OK. Then boot back into TWRP to install Magisk if you want root.
Yep that seems to have done the trick. At first I was getting frustrated because I thought I was downloading the right Chinese ROM, turns out I was downloading the recovery version instead of the fastboot one.
I think it wasn't working because I was on the beta channel. Switching over to the stable channel meant I had to go through a fastboot flash apparently. I've seen this before on my OP3.
Got lineage OS loaded, thanks for your help!

Stuck at MI Logo...

Hello all,
so i have an strange issue here. after installing magisk canary yesterday evening, i ended up in a bootloop.
so i stayed pretty cool and went to twrp, used magisk uninstaller and thought hmm okay ****, still not booting, not even shows the boot animation now.
stuck at the MI logo, flicks one time, and then stuck again.
so trying to reflash magisk then with 20.4, but nothing changed.
i ended up doing a full wipe, downloading the latest v12 vendor global and reflashed the rom.
booted up all fine. set it all up again, did a random restart, without doing stuff.
boot animation....10 minutes..
restarted stuck at mi logo again.
not even the system is trying to get up.
now i can wipe verything, vendor, data, system, dalvik, whatsoever, i wiped everything, flashed vendor again, installed rom.
nothing... stuck at the MI logo.
any ideas?
many thanks
If you're flashing recovery ROM i suggest you use fastboot ROM
Sent from my Redmi K20 Pro using Tapatalk
i reflashed now via xiami flash tool and stock rom and it boots up.
but as soon as i flash twrp and a custom rom, with wipe before, everything is stuck again on the mi logo.
what the...?

From stock MIUI.
Install TWRP
Boot into TWRP
Do a factory reset
Format data - Format not wipe, need to type yes to confirm
Reboot to recovery (TWRP)
Flash custom ROM
Flash GApps if needed/wanted
Boot into the ROM
Everything should be good
Flash Magisk if required
Do not wipe any other partitions in TWRP, the factory reset is enough.
Make sure you format data in TWRP - don't miss this step out.
If you're doing this immediately after flashing MIUI, you must boot into MIUI once to finalise the installation.
Yes format data not wipe.
when i flash custom rom, even i am not on miui i first format data with yes in twrp then reboot to twrp. I put rom and gapps to internal memory, and install rom and gapps. and when finish reboot to system, when phone restart it stack at mi logo, so i have to go back to twrp and do again format data with typing yes, and then reboot to system and it works. so no wipe data, format data with typing yes.
oh and i thought, wipe is the same as format.... :/
works like charm. booted up successfully evo x with vendor 12 global.
Install TWRP
Boot into TWRP
Do a factory reset
Format data - Format not wipe, need to type yes to confirm
Reboot to recovery (TWRP)
Flash Vendor
Flash custom ROM
Boot into the ROM
Everything should be good
Flash Magisk if required
thanks all !

If you want to change to a different ROM, or if you want to update Evo x, then the safest way is to remove lockscreen security before flashing. This will remove encryption, which will allow you to clean flash a new ROM, or dirty flash an update, without any issues caused by encryption.
Once your done, add the lockscreen security back.

Question [HELP] Doesn't boot with any Recovery based ROM!?

Hi Guys
I tried an update to Mirza's ROM but after it caused more issues, I tried restoring from full Orangefox backup in recovery; only to find the phone stuck at Fastboot mode. It appeared strange, so I tried it again to end up with same fate. I tried installing Xiaomi.EU ROM, but after installation it got into a boot loop alternating between Recovery logo and MIUI startup logo. I got into fastboot again and flashed TWRP trying the same, but without joy. Tried another recovery and multiple versions of Xioami.EU ROM all with same fate. Finally got hold of an old fastboot ROM from Xioami.EU and flashed with MiFlash tool and it flashed successfully without issues. Assuming all was well, I tried flashing ROM via recovery which either gets stuck at MIUI logo or recovery. Boot loader in unlocked and decrypted. I tried flashing SHRP recovery, Magisk, wiping data etc as well to rule out any issues, but the problems remain.
Any ideas as to what's happening?
If I understood right, recovery ofox is working.
So reboot to it
Format data with yes
Reboot ofox
Flash ROM
Flash magisk recommend
Format data again with yes
Reboot system and give time to boot, could be more than some minutes but I think not more than 20
For those who might face similar issues.
According to Orangefox website, 'note that you should not restore a backup of the persist image, unless it proves absolutely necessary'. I may have checked it in recovery during restoration which probably destroyed the partition.
Fix:Installed TWRP via flashboot, formatted all data(not wiped) and installed ROM then formatted again and it booted.
