Orange TV app [French] Force Close - Google Pixel 5 Questions & Answers

Hi all,
I know I might have very limited feedback here but I'll try anyway.
As the title says, I'm having an issue with one app I use quite a bit; Orange TV. This app is provided by the French Network Operator Orange to its customers through the French Play store. It allows access to the same TV and Replay channels as the set-top box from the operator.
Now this app works fine on my previous devices (Mate 20 Pro and OnePlus 7T Pro on Android 10) as well as my sons Pixel 3XL (Android 11). On the Pixel 5 (Android 11, Nov update, no root) however, it force closes each time the video is supposed to play back. I can navigate just fine inside the app but as soon as I hit the "Watch" button, I get :
App goes into landscape mode
App displays the player UI
App shows a spinning wheel (buffering video)
App force closes
Have tried reinstalling and all but no change.
So before going through the hassle of Factory Reset I'd be curious if any frenchies here on XDA did / could test (you'll need an account with Orange France) and tell we if it works for them.
On a side note : Netflix and Amazon Prime video do work just fine for me.
Thanks.
Lutz

Hello,
I had the same problem with the Bouygues TV app.
It was simply not yet Android 11 compatible.
A Google store update later, everything runs fine now.
I know it's not really helping but maybe you can just wait for an update...

Thanks for your feedback.
Indeed, those carrier apps are not always up to date and my 1st thought was the same. What bothers me most however is that it does work fine on the Pixel 3xl of my son also running Android 11.
If it was tied to Android 11 in general I guess an update could been expected shortly. If it is however more limited like it seems the case here, I might have to wait forever.

I will have to try this when I get home and I will let you know
Seems to be a bug from SO. Many people is complaining about this in the official OnePlus community.

ah nice, i didn't find anything. Thank you for the info.
I have the same problem... I don't know what to do...
same problem here - 1+3t see my chromecast device , attempts to connect and... thats all
I've not screwed around with this problem much since I don't "cast screen" aside from netflix which works (as said here). I did some screen casting from CM in the past, But::
I've experience the identical symptoms of this problem on CM13, CM14, etc, with their built in cast command. I don't know if it'll be identical or of any help, but I had to get rid of all of the /system partition based "cast" (whatever it's called in this version), from /system/apps ./priv-apps and other /system-like places..
When you are sure you've got it all gone, using root explorer or adb or whatever you prefer (of course, you have to be rooted) , then reboot, then install Google Home(chromecast) from the play store. That worked fine in the CM's. I'll see if I can dig up the correct file names & folders that apply to this version and get back to this thread if I do.
I'll be happy to be the guinea pig, so don't do this unless you want to take a chance on screwing up your phone, until I report back.
Edit 1: Of course, the 3t does it differently. They're using all /data spaces for the cast, and since I've installed "google home" I have to get rid of it first to figure out which files remain. Here is what there is right now, not that there is anything worth doing with it unless I've uninstalled Google Cast via play store:
/data/data/com.google.android.gms/cache/cast_mirroring_raw_events.log.gz
/data/data/com.google.android.gms/shared_prefs/google_cast.xml
/data/data/com.google.android.gms/shared_prefs/PREF_CAST_SENDER_ID.xml
/data/data/com.google.android.gms/shared_prefs/CastDeviceCache.xml
/data/data/com.google.android.gms/shared_prefs/CAST_ACTIVE_NETWORK_MAP.xml
/data/data/com.google.android.gms/shared_prefs/googlecast-setting-prefs.xml
/data/data/com.google.android.gms/shared_prefs/PREF_CAST_SENDER_NONCE.xml
/data/data/com.google.android.gms/app_sslcache/cast.google.com.443
/data/data/com.google.android.apps.chromecast.app
/data/data/com.google.android.apps.chromecast.app/shared_prefs/com.google.android.apps.chromecast.app_preferences.xml
/data/app/com.google.android.gms-1/lib/arm64/libgcastv2_base.so
/data/app/com.google.android.gms-1/lib/arm64/libgcastv2_support.so

And a log of cast from settings:
same problem but I am happy that Netflix and Spotify works.

Huawei Health watch face option Missing for smart watch

So I recently got bought the Honor Magic watch 2, love everything about it so far except I can't change my watch face theme using the Huawei Health app. The only option I have is adding music. I look at all the reviews on this watch almost everyone has that option. So I'm guessing this has to do with the regional issue I'm located in Canada. Is there any way around this. It's kinda annoying not having that option especially if the watch itself is a global model.
Any suggestions or help would be great.
I am facing same issue in India.
further It happened to see one time in my app, I dont know how, so I set 3 pics but after that again no option in app but those 3 photos are available in my watch and displaying but I cant change the pic as there is no option

I finally got mine to work
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8PV...4uroopdmgyehk4aoeyu5w03c010c.1583411819905954
Follow these steps
only thing is these steps will not work with an Huawei/Honor phones so you'll need another android works with even the older phones.
You will also need to get a hold of a chinese id (only worked for me when i got a chinese number so if you can find one that hasn't been used it will need it to register)
Keep in min when you first launch the Health app i suggest you to choose china as your region code and register as a new ( with the chinese number)
Hope that helps.

Chrome, keyboard issues and one question.

Hello, since last update with miui 12 I can't update Chrome anymore and that Andrioid System WebView. Any ideas how I can solve it or need to wait for another miui update? I tried to clear data, uninstall(though it doesn't uninstall completely).
Keyboard sometimes stops working properly. To deal with keyboard I have to close it using 'back' button then start editing my post again. It's quite annoying and my friend having the MI9 as well seems to running into that issue. Any ideas how to deal with that? Is Gboard faulty under Miui 12? I had one app in miui 11 that to login into I had to switch to 3G rather than use LTE(took me a while to figure out). It's an app from my network provider so I can check there how much money is left, or the GBs for Internet as turn on some services.
That app is working now fine but it got new update recently with new interface and stuff(and I don't want to update it, because it's not working properly and the interface is much worse). Is there anyway to make it disappear from updates page so I accidentally will not update it? Already had to download it from APK mirror once...
Thanks in advance for any replies.

Google Recorder app works?

Hey guys,
I'm thinking of getting Poco X3 however I feel in love with Google Recorder app on my Pixel 2 and as a student, it's hard to live without all the audio AI transcription magic. I know previously Google Recorder transcript option didn't work on MIUI 11 devices. Does it work with Poco's MIUI 12?
Much appreciated if somebody can confirm it.
Best regards,
I'm on MIUI global 12.0.2
Not supported in PlayStore, tried from ApkMirror and the unofficial one from AndroidFileHost both found here:
https://www.xda-developers.com/download-latest-google-recorder-app-android/
And they both crash

Thanks @bacitoto. Good to know. Have you tried the newest version of the apk? I've seen that some older, unofficial versions are are more likely to work on non-Pixel devices such as version 0.5.257343194 (gosh, what a version number).

Ok. And most importantly, the transcribe feature doesn't work, right? Well, thanks a bunch. If there only would be a way to mod the app to work...

Transcribe also doesn't work.
I'll try and find a working version, because this is actually a really cool app/feature. If not we'll need to wait for custom roms
Yeah, it's magically the way it works. I mean, anything that you listen to: complicated lecture, zoom meeting at work etc becomes instantly transcribed and searchable. This app is pure gold. Especially now with the endless Zoom calls. Instead of having to take notes and later reviewing recordings u really can get all the info u want right away. The app works very well even with people speaking with heavy accents etc
This article explains the issue with MIUI:
"Android software without significant modifications to the TextView component in the Android framework. It seems that the Google Recorder app fails to work properly on certain devices because those devices are running software with modifications to TextView."

It works flawlessly with RR Rom

Google Play Store/Services Tutorial on Mate 40 Pro/ Mate 40 RS?

Hello all, upon following a video on Youtube submitted by a John Wang, his explanation wasn't 100 percent clear but good enough for me to follow it to get Google play on my Mate 40 RS which should work the same for the Mate 40 Pro/ Pro +/ Mate 40 as they are all based on the same EMUI OS. There are some caveats as in still issues with notifications seeming to be delayed unless the app is open etc, Android Auto does work but can be kind of buggy and of course no Google Pay. If you guys are interested in me making a tutorial for you with the files you'll need please let me know and I'd be more than happy to create one!
I should note too, that I have not had the google play protect error at all, and I am on day 2 of using Google Play on it. So far so good, I can use Youtube/Music/Gmail just fine
Of course. Please make one please It would help a lot. I'm planning to buy a chinese M40 RS also.
But please make clear that this only works for chinese FW version!
A tutorial for this would be great! I tried to follow John Wang's tutorial but when I get to the part where you restore the backup app, it says I already have a newer version of the app installed. I've uninstalled the only version of the app I can find and I'm still getting the error message. Any ideas?
It may help to mention I'm based in the UK.
Cheers!

I was able to use the backup app that came with my phone and it seemed to restore just fine. Odd that what I read from others it only works for Chinese version like I got. Although I would like someone with international to try it.
Hello anyone tries any of this on international version of mate 40?

The notifications of app in dual space work like in standard installation? I mean: gmail with push notifications working in dual space, if i have the phone in standby, when new mail will arrive, i will have a standard push notification from gmail? This is an important question.

Hi all,
This question is asking for global variant of Mate 40 Pro
Are there any method to install
1) Google Services Framework
2) Google Play Services
Then in Chrome browser address bar, key in play.google.com/store to download & install app ?
No need LZPlay
Any way to do it ?
