I have had the phone for a week now. It's a nice phone but I'm paranoid about scratching the camera. I spent a couple of hours looking at camera protectors and am concerned about image distortion with flash. I see a lot of complaints about that, though I do see many posts saying that there is no problem. I was thinking that a case with built-in camera protection would be great. I saw this:

It has a door that slides over the camera when not in use. It looks like a thin case though, and that it might have a problem with actually protecting the phone from drops. Just get a case with a good camera lip and pick up a cheap 3 dollar Dbrand skin for the camera to protect against scratches...

I tend to shy away from cases like this bc dirt, debris can sneak in there given enough time....and may end up scratching the glass.

I recommend going to dbrands website. They have a tool that lets you see what it would look like on your phone. They have about 15 or so skins for the camera bump.

Samsung has a lense protector built into the rear cover.
Simply find a good case that has raised edges around the cam module.
Try to keep your fingers off of it ie don't use it to grab the phone out of your pocket. Clean occasionally with a dry microfiber cloth.
I've been using the Bolt case for my 10+, easy to grip, great drop protection and doesn't attract dirt.
The phone's cam lense cover doesn't have even a slight scratch after over a year... and I live in the desert.

There's a layer of adhesive on the protector so the metal never actually touches the glass.

This is a HUGE oversight by LG, as when the back case is on the pictures are kind of contrasty or wishy washy. With the case OFF the pictures are sharp and vibrant.
So My question is, has anybody removed and replaced the clear plastic on thier back case ? If so what did you replace it with ?

OP is right. The pictures without the back on are 10 times better. I think it is half to do with the plastic being a poor filter lens and half that it picks up fingerprints and smudges really easily.
I'd prefer not to carry a swab kit everywhere I go in case I want to get a decent picture.

Same issue as when I had my nokia 5800, pictures taken with the rear cover off looked better than with the rear cover on.
They should of used a proper glass lense than some cheap plastic.

I'm thinking of cutting a UV filter down to size and replacing mine. As no matter how much you clean that plastic, the pictures are always contrasty.
does anybody know if there are CHEAP replacement backs for sale anywhere. I do really mean CHEAP so gotta be under £10, I've seen them for £20+ which is too dear to buy just to try and replace the plastic.
everybody that knows a little about optics will tell you the same, LG made a huge design compromise/sacrifice there and I just can't see why they chose to. particularly because there's absolutely no need for the lower casing to go all the way up. relocate the SD card slot and they could've done with half the height and gave the lens some decent housing. ah well... for every light there's a shadow. at least this way the lens/chip gets some astonishing amount of light even in low light conditions, but the trade off in raw picture quality is huge.
Easy to fix, just take drilling machine and make a small hole, I will do it but cant find the drill

i was thinking about removing the plastic outside, and put an optic cut piece of glass and put it in the inside of the back cover so it protect lens, but doesn't get diry easily...

Could you in theory get a screen protector that covers the lens area and use that to repel fingerprints and dirt? I saw this in another thread and it looks like you get a protector for the lens cover

Well, no, i havent done this on purpose, my o2x fell down and the glass broke.
Yes, its glass. And its glued. I had to pull off the glass in little pieces, maybe its easier when its heated.
Then i put black nail polish on it. Not really beautifull, but its ok, and im looking for a new cover anyway.

Just go to your local Swarovski shop and get a plate of 200gr clear glass, then go to your local Diamond cutting shop and tell them to cut it so it fits... and there you go.. it will only cost you around 3500 euros but what the hell, you will have astonishing pictures after that...

Just clean it once a week with mild de-greasing solution. Regular glass cleaner works for camera and glass (pull back cover off, take care of inside too), I use even Tuff Stuff foam, microfibre cloth and cleaning wipes and it's all good. Just finish it with soft cotton cloth on lens and "glass"
My wish would be to have a slide cover over the lens, then you would not need a glass in front of the lens. If there should be a third party back cover with a slide cover, I would buy it yesterday!

Conclusion:
Rugged case, feels safe to drop from hip high (not gonna go higher, sorry).
Look-wise can't complain.
Installing and removing the case is a pain, so I probably would not change case as often.
Can't fit into pockets but it is impossible to drop this phone with its grippiness.
I like the hole; I can hang phone around my neck and also hang it with my key.
Not water-proof but gives a decent dust-proof.
Kickstand is great for video but not for standing straight up (no big deal)
Well, that is all folks, hope this helped making up someone's mind.
I reviewed it too... my only gripe with it was the kickstand which is metal and I think the only cause - of making it not work with wireless charging.

I've got one of these coming in next week and was aggravated about not being able to use the wireless charger, even though I only use wireless at night. But in the end, a friend of mine has this case for his 6s plus, and I really like it, so if it means I go without wireless so be it.
That plastic screen protector though. Fingerprint heaven and grease! Why doesn't anyone make a case that is tight fitting with a 9h protector so that it doesn't do the grease under screen issue?! Ugh.

Agreed with the fingerprint heaven. They don't make a case with 9h because they can make more money with them sold separately? Protector is actually pretty difficult to pop out.

I was able to pop the screen protector off pretty easily. I had a hardertime getting my screen protetor off my otterbox. The S pen is very difficult to pop out of this case. at least getting it out quickly is not happening. definitely like the case though.

I found leaving my stylus clicked out allowed the case to still close completely and makes it a lot easier to remove the stylus when needed.
Also cut the loop off mine. ?

Has anyone tried ordering one of these from Aliexpress? I ordered one already and totally excited about it.
Some youtube videos of the case for other phones are already there. I am sure this sleek Beast and the Metal Thor cover would make a Machine in hand.

I have it. It's cool as hell but extremely inconvenient. It doesn't exactly fit well, slides with excess space and it likes to pull your screen protector up by the way it holds in place. It's cool as Hell though, forgot where I put it though.

About that Tudia, have it as well, but i am not satisfied with that so much... It's because through the hole for fingerprint sensor many times went through the humidity between front plastic cover and the glass of the phone, when i wear phone in my pocket in work, turned by side to my leg. As well front plastic cover after some time started cowering itself so when u touch on display through this u can feel it it doesn't fit.
But desing looking very nice, that tank cover has really nice desing

Yeah, wasn't to happy with the hole for FP scanner. I don't use the scanner and have it disabled, so I went down and bought a package of plastic laminating sheets and cut two oval pieces just bigger than the hole. Put one on front and one on back to cover hole. I work in a cabinet shop and sawdust was constantly getting in, so this solved my issue. I'm not sure, but the FP scanner might still work with it covered like that, not tried it yet to see. Other than that, that Tudia case is great, looks good and offers excellent drop protection. I know first hand, dropped phone from 3 foot up on concrete floor.

I just have a standard silicone case right now. The Thor case isn't practical. It's really just for show.

I confirm got a TUDIA slightly different model for my 3 and for like $8-9 (us.) couldn't be happier fits over D-brand zkins with no issues also

No idea if it has any special coatings, but for me it's doing a great job at being scratch resistive.

You better keep your screen protection on. The screen gets scratched even by fabric, jeans etc. Realised that in 2 weeks after buying and my nano protector is on it like +1 year.

The back cover is more important though, it's a drop to the corner which will crack the screen everytime, the screen won't last long enough to worry about the scratches without a cover. So both would be good but no screen protector here, then again I don't have loads of pills in my pocket

I've bought them from a local seller in Turkey. First tried a couple of tempered glass screen protectors but the shape of edges were ruining them. So nano one doesn't cover the whole screen but sticks completely, feels more clean. It's like this:

True, Used the device w/o a cover for 2 weeks until I find a cool one, because seller didn't give my original leather one. Anyway don't mention our special business here and take a look at my covers, I like the cabron fibre looking one as you know:

Then you should keep it in a glass cabinet and only look at it once a day, no touching!
But it is slippery as an eel, as the Swedish saying goes, and both the screen and the ceramic bezel will crack on first corner drop.
Any back cover will also "cover it up", and the flip cover even protects the screen from scratches in your pocket.
The least bad choice, better than buying a new phone every few months at least.
Was using the Samsung OEM silicone case but wanted something that was just as slim but also covered the camera glass because it's so big and pops out. Found this $9 case on Amazon. It has front raised lips for drop protection (minimal) and is actually even slimmer than the Samsung case so it feels like it's barely there. Not all. I have the ESR Tough Alliance, the Ringke X Fusion and Ringke Air-S. The Ringke cases have some 2mm of space between the camera bump. These cases do not cover the mic. The ESR cases are particularly better for its slanted sides on the camera mic side. It captures audio from the slanted side more effectively.
The Moment thin case is very nice and I think it is what you are looking for. I have it along with several Spigen cases.

I went with a case with a sliding cover. By my standards I find the case pretty thin, but I typically go with really rugged cases, so my case thickness standards may differ from yours.

BUT! The camera glass shouldn't be covered like that.
Just as you should never put a runner over carpet!
Over time when you think you are protecting what's underneath you will find you're doing far more damage.
Why? Dirt gets underneath and will abrade the hell out of the glass.

Ditto for screen. Can't stand having protectors over screens, ESPECIALLY curved screens. And too, they literally wreck the FP reader action.

Just as you should never put a runner over carpet!
Over time when you think you are protecting what's underneath you will find you're doing far more damage.
Why? Dirt gets underneath and will abrade the hell out of the glass.

I ordered the version of this case with the built in ring stand on the back. Not only are you totally right about the danger of the camera glass getting scratched, but the entire case had no interior protection material to keep grit or dust from scuffing up the phone itself over time. It also didn't fit snug enough to make this issue moot. Immediately returned....
I ordered the LATERCASE its thin but still covers the camera Bump, has been shipped and my note 20 ultra won`t be delivered until the 19th so we`ll see how it goes.

I received my latercase a few days ago and really like it. Its the thinnest most minimalistic case you can get imo with camera bump protection..
