[ROM] Problem flashing GSI to phone - Moto G9 Play Questions & Answers

Hello there,
I am currently trying to flash my G9 Play (XT2083-3) with the latest GSI release (https://github.com/phhusson/treble_experimentations/releases).
Unfortunately I'm not very experienced with IT stuff and within this week trying to do it on my own, I have not made any progress.
With the latest TWRP build (https://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g9-play/development/recovery-twrp-3-4-0-0-t4189901) the phone will boot into the custom recovery.
But trying to flash the system-quack-arm64-ab-vanilla.img.xz onto the phone has not been successful.
The Image was extracted and transferred to the phone, but when flashing it [Super and Super (System, Product)], only the bootloader would load and I had to flash to vendor image to the phone to unbrick it.
For flashing the following method was used: boot into TWRP and wipe the phone; then press install and switch to install image; select the file and flash it.
With my Moto G6 I simply flashed the system partition and was done with it, but it seems this is not an option anymore.
Within TWRP the following partitions are listed: Boot, DTBO, Super, Recovery, Logo, Super (System, Product).
It also seems, that the B partition is not written.
When trying to choose the B partition in TWRP I'll always get an error (E: Error getting bootctrl mode).
Help would be much appreciated.
Many thanks in advance.

No momento não tem twrp compatível para fazer flash de sistema system.img, como nos modelos anteriores, mas consegui instalar no meu XT2083-1 o AOSP Android 10 GSI phh versão Google Go e tá perfeito.

Unable to boot up Le Eco 2 x526 (s2)! Doesn't go beyond "Le Eco" screen!

I recently decided to root my Le Eco 2. For that it was first necessary to install some custom recovery. So I installed the TWRP custom recovery using the following guide:
youtu.be/WHc4ciTicqIg3
It warned me that I had to wipe the phone after the process. So I made a backup of the important data and applications. After flashing TWRP as it said I tried to start the phone without wiping but the data was encrypted! So I did a regular factory reset in TWRP but after that it didn't even show the boot animation with "eui" on it. It just gets stuck on the "Le Eco" screen! I even tried flashing a clean stock ROM after wiping the necessary partitions but it didnt work! Please help! Its urgent!
You need to flash a EUI version above 21s by TWRP.
Can you please post a link to download it

[James] Moto E5 Play won't boot into Custom ROM(s)

Device variant: XT19121-2 James
Chipset: MSM8920
After repeated failed flashes I am on stock firmware using this guide. Phone boots and works normally right now, but I can't seem to flash any Custom ROMs on to my phone. I was using this post to flash Lineage OS 15.1, which worked successfully at first, but the WiFi wasn't working so I reflashed it. It still didn't work so I did it again, wiping Dalvik/Cache too. After the second flash attempt, my phone began to only flicker on and off. I made sure to always clean flash, factory resetting, wiping Cache and Dalvik, even formatting data, but no matter what I do it doesn't work. Also attempted other GSI images (arm, A-only) like AOSP, ResurrectionRemix and phhusson's Lineage OS 15.1 But they all failed too. I am using TWRP for James v 3.3.1 although I did also try other TWRP images like v 3.2.1 . But it makes no difference. Also used Magisk v19 like some guides suggested but whether I have Magisk or not, it doesn't work. Even made sure to push the fstab.qcom file to /vendor. Anytime a Custom ROM is flashed whether zip or GSI img it goes past the initial "bad key" or "N/A" screen and starts flickering on and off. Bootloader and TWRP works fine, but that's about it. Everytime a flash fails I go back to stock firmware (which always works) and try another ROM. I wonder why the first attempt worked but doesn't anymore even if I mirror the exact steps I took from stock. If anyone has any solutions I would be really grateful. Let me know if you need any more information.
have you taken any recent OTA updates?

Nope. Still on the 8.0.0 version the stock firmware comes in.

Okay give this a try, I'm assuming you have old root access and TWRP installed.
Download any Android 9 GSI of your liking, boot to TWRP.
Do a complete nandroid backup of the stock firmware.
Do a factory reset then wipe system partition.
Next flash your GSI that you downloaded to your system partition.
After flashing is complete of the GSI reboot to recovery.
After reboot completed flash your open Gapps zip. Then reflash Magisk.
if you get a error message when flashing g apps then you will need to use magic g apps with magisk as it will install them systemless. I have to do this on my device because the partition doesn't have enough space.
Give that a try and let me know how it goes if you have any questions feel free to ask.

I also just noticed you are using the latest version of TWRP 3.3.1. I'm not sure if you originally rooted and installed TWRP with the original patched version by Cody or not, but if so make sure with the new version that you format your data partition to f2fs. As this will ensure correct mounting of the data partition.

Followed these steps exactly, including formatting the data partition to f2fs, and the same problem still persists. Screen just keeps turning on and off in a loop without booting into the ROM. I downloaded the Lineage OS 16.0 GSI A-only Arm version for reference.
I am having the same issue
Using XT1921-1
Latest TWRP
Have tried LOS 15, LOS 16, AOSP 8.1, AOSP 9.0
Have tried flashing in fastboot and TWRP
Have tried every combo of wipe/factory reset/format data and magisk flash possible
have tried stock recovery, have tried no verity, have tried stock boot.img
nothing works. only able to produce powered on (black and blank) screen that turns on and off for a minute before returning to bootloader
PLEASE HELP
think i might need a 8.0 GSI but cant find one anywhere
I eventually got RR to boot on the james xt-1921-3 I installed XT1921-3_JAMES_T_MPCS_8.0.0_OCPS27.91-150-5-1-3_cid21 as a base, then used boot and vendor partitions from JAMES_T_OCP27.91-51-4_cid21_subsidy-TMO_RSU_regulatory-DEFAULT_CFC and it finally worked.

Message me, I'll host a TWRP backup for the XT-1921-3 that boots RR 6.1
Download the file from this post https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/software/universal-dm-verity-forceencrypt-t3817389 , then using fastboot, flash the vendor and boot img
fastboot flash vendor vendor.img
fastboot flash boot boot.img
then boot into recovery and flash the file from that post to disable dm-verity and force encrytion, after that flash magisk, then reboot to bootloader, at command prompt-
fastboot erase userdata
fastboot erase cache
fastboot reboot
that should get you booted - profit

global rom for x50 5g chinese version

Hi Guys.
I am about to buy the realme x50 5g from aliexpress, is the version 6gb 64gb and I'd like to know if there is a global rom for that one. something to flash in.
Also I'd like to know if those bands are the same in china as in the USA? Because kimovil says that the phone will work with 4 of 5 band 4glte with global version VS. the 3 of 5 bands in the chinese version. Please advice guys,
Gus
Hello there,
I bought one from Aliexpress also. If you plan to unlock bootloader and flash custom ROMs, I would not suggest to buy from here.
99.99% of 6GB 64GB are RMX2025 and up until now there is no deep testing app that supports this model.
I found no custom ROMs for X50 5G either. There may be possiblities to flash GSI if you can unlock bootloader.
My suggestion is you look for RMX2051 model of Realme X50 5G on Aliexpress. There are some sellers that supply this model.
Since RMX2051 is the gauranteed model that will be able to unlock by deep testing app.

My model is RMX2051 (12+256), The bootloader can be unlocked with deep testing app.
It is however, following the method of twrp, it returns a white screen on boot to the recovery or normal boot.
The device can still boot to the fastboot mode and adb can list the device. What can I do now?

Hi Bro,
What are you trying to do? I am not clear about that. You're trying to flash some custom ROMs?
Right now there is no specific custom ROMs for this phone. If you want to flash GSIs, you can do this without flashing TWRP or any custom recovery.
The process to flash GSI with fastboot is as follow:
1. Download GSI that you like here. But you need to check your phone model if it's A only or A/B and ARM or ARM64. I saw some apps that can check your phone for project treble support in Play Store. My best guess is A/B ARM64. So you need to look for GSIs of these types. My fav GSIs are LOS, AOSP, Havoc and Pixel.
2. Boot your phone to Fastboot mode.
3. Connect your phone to PC.
4. Run fastboot adb platform
5. unzip GSI file to ROM name.img and copy this file to your directory of fastboot adb platform
6. enter "fastboot devices" to check your phone connection with your PC.
7. enter "fastboot -w" or "fastboot erase userdata" to wipe all data.
8. enter "fastboot flash system <ROM name.img>" to flash GSI to system partition. This may take up to 10-15 minuts. Depending on the GSI file size that you flash.
9. enter "fastboot reboot"
After you see Realme logo, the GSI logo should show up soon and take some time for booting to the system. Otherwise this will be bootloop. This may be caused from unsuccessfully unlocking bootloader. However if you are certain that you unlock bootloader correctly, you can try the following steps.
The process to trouble shoot bootloop from flashing GSIs.
1. Download Stock ROM of RMX2051.
2. Connect your phone to PC.
3. Run fastboot adb platform
4. unzip boot.img and copy to your directory of fastboot adb platform.
5. enter "fastboot flash boot boot.img"
6. enter "fastboot reboot"
By the way, This link for TWRP for Realme X50 5G is here. I have not tested this since I don't have the phone. If this TWRP file still does not work for your phone, you can try flashing manually as the above process.
Hope this helps.

5. digite "fastboot flash boot boot.img"
6. digite "fastboot reboot"

Hello friend,
Please use English in the forum. I translated your messages using Google translate.
"Like my friend, I also have a problem to install or twrp, I have to install by deceit or twrp of x50 pro and now my display is white, impressed that or twrp install, but for some reason it does not appear, so I need a specific twrp for this model, or link, that you are not working forneceu, can you help me? very obrigado"
What is your phone model no.? And what do you want to use TWRP for?
Right now there is no specific ROM for Realme X50 5G. You can flash GSI ROM if you like to.
Or your want to root your phone? Flashing Magisk may brick your phone.
Realme X50 5G is launched with Android 10. Android 10 is now dynamic /super partition.
I am not sure whether or not Magisk supports this yet.
You need to prepare Stock ROM for your phone in case you may brick your phone by rooting or flashing GSI ROMs.

First of all I apologize for not using the English language, and secondly, I thank you for the prompt service of my question, my phone model is Realme x50 g5 (china) RMX 2051, I bought it here in Brazil, but unfortunately it it doesn't have multilingual, and I didn't like the system in English, so I tried an app to translate the Morelocar 2 system, but I couldn't install it because I didn't have superuser permission, I tried to install the TWRP that I found on the internet, it was for my model but I don't think it was, because after the installation via fastboot, the cell phone restarted and got the white screen, even installed twrp, but it doesn't appear, very strange. But the biggest problem is that the phone no longer turns on the system, it is only on this screen in recovery mode. Oh my God please help me !!!
I was watching here on the internet a program to install the original cell phone rom called MSM FLASH TOOLS, it is used for several OPPO, ONEPLUS and REALME cell phones. But I am not getting the necessary file, which is .OFP. The file I managed to download here has the extension .OZIP, and I am not able to convert.

Hello friend,
OK. I am willing to help you out.
1. We can start off by preparing Stock ROM for your phone and flash it. So your phone will be back to the initial state. Please check this link here.
2. And Unlock bootloader of your phone before customising your phone following this link here.
3. I found TWRP for your phone at these two links: here and here. Flash one of these that works for your phone.
After you have done 1-3, reply me again. And I will explain the next possible steps you can do to have your phone customised the way you possibly want.

Oops my great friend, God pay you for the help welcome !!!! I had already managed to access these two links, including one of these links that I installed TWRP that didn't work. So I started a search on the Chinese website because this phone is only marketed and supported by the Chinese. And I was already very tired when I managed to find a Chinese website, and I downloaded TWRP, which worked. Now what intrigues that the file is the same size as the one I had already downloaded, I think that when I downloaded it, it must have corrupted the file. My phone is already installed. This is the website I was able to locate (https://www.jkmeng.cn/14356.html). But the phone still has problems, because it is still in bootloop, when I try to restart it goes back to the bootloader, very strange. I also installed another file that said it ends this looping but it didn't work. I think I just have to reinstall the rom again. The site that you indicated to download the rom, also had already found, and I even already have the rom downloaded on my computer. But the rom is in a .OZIP file, can you tell if TWRP accepts this type of file? Thank you again....

You are so good that you could find TWRP that works for your phone in Chinese website. If I were you, I wouldn't be able to find that.
By the way, for flashing Stock ROM, I mean you need to use Flash tools in one of the method 2-4 to flash Stock ROM.
Your situation is probably hard brick and need to reorganize the phone partitions. TWRP won't help you with this. TWRP is used to flash Custom ROMs, GAPPS, Magisk and some flashable files for specific purposes.
If you are certain that you unlock booloader then after you flash Stock ROM, your phone would be back on. I guess the Stock ROM in the link above should come with multiple language. Otherwise reply me again and I will figure out what method to do for multilanguage.

How's my great friend doing !!! yesterday after a lot of struggle I was able to install TWRP, and then I was able to install the official ROM of the REALME X50 5G (Chinese). But I am still having problems with the installation of the ROOT (magisk) because when I install on the cell phone the system does not work, it is on a red screen saying the phone is unusable. And I would also be grateful if you could get some information about a PERSONALIZED ROM, which is multilingual, for Brazilian Portuguese. Thank you very much for, and have a blessed week.

Hi friend,
I'm willing to help. However I have never successfully flash Magisk for Android 10+ so far. Android 10 has dynamic /super partition which combines such partiions as /system, /vendor. If it's possible to flash Magisk, I would suggest Magisk Canary. Copy boot.img from the official ROM that you flashed recently and use Magisk Canary to patch boot.img then you use this file to flash to /boot partition using this command in fastboot mode:
fastboot flash boot patched_boot.img
In some website said, flashing patched_boot.img need to specify the partition a or b using this command:
fastboot flash boot_a patched_boot.img
fastboot flash boot_b patched_boot.img
For Personalized ROM, I guess you probably mean Custom ROM for Realme X50 5G RMX2051. Right now there is no Custom ROM for your phone. There is only Generic System Image or GSI. You can flash this by following this tutorial here.
Before flashing GSI, your data will be gone. So back up all necessary data before doing this.
My steps to flash GSI is as follow:
1. boot to your bootloader
2. boot to fastbootd
fastboot reboot fastboot
3. delete /product partition to give more space to system partition
fastboot delete-logical-partition product
4. erase /system partition
fastboot erase system
5. download GSI ROM from here. Or you can search about GSI ROMs from the internet.
extract the ROM to system.img and flash it.
fastboot flash system system.img
6. disable vbmeta by downloading blank vbmeta.img in the attached file and flash it
fastboot --disable-verification flash vbmeta vbmeta.img
7. format data
fastboot -w
8. reboot to system
fastboot reboot
Flashing GSI has more then 50% chance of bootloop or bricked. But it's worth the risk if succeeded.
You can find many more GSI ROMs on the internet. Since there is no specifi custom ROMs for your phone GSI ROMs are the only choice for now. 99% of GSI ROMs are Global ROMs. And many GSI ROMs come with SU already. You don't need to flash Magisk. Just activate the SU then you can gain root access already.
Hope this helps.
Edit: You can install Treble check or Treble info app to check what archs your phone supports.
There are ARM32, ARM32 binder 64 or ARM64 and A only or A/B
My best guess is your phone is ARM64 A/B. So you need to look for this in the coded name of the GSI ROMs. Vanilla mean no GAPPS. You need to look for the name with GAPPS. Or you can flash MicroG for GSI ROM Vanilla later. Flashing MicroG require the GSI ROM with Signature spoofing feature to bypass security system check in order to install MicroG successfully.

Hi friend,
I'm willing to help.
Or you can search about GSI ROMs from the internet.
extract the ROM to system.img and flash it.
fastboot flash system system.img

fastboot --disable-verification flash vbmeta vbmeta.img

good night my friend!!! satisfaction in talking to you again. I thank you again for your return, but I tried to do a search here on the internet to find the GSI ROM but I was not successful. Do you have a specific website for me to download this rom? Another problem that I had on my phone, after I reinstalled the original system through TWRP, I can no longer transfer files or install applications, nor through Google Play, a message in English saying that the phone is locked for that operation. Do I have to change anything in the system configuration. Thank you very much for your attention.

After installing the rom, if booted into twrp, the internal storage vanishes, and cannot be booted without flashinng again. Any solutions? I'm using Redmi note 11 Spes

If you are using Android 12, try using the latest TWRP for spes that actually supports A12 encryption:
Jabiyeff-build - Browse /Recovery-Spes at SourceForge.net
sourceforge.net
If you are using Android 11, try using the latest Orangefox for spes for A11:

Thanks it worked.
Sorry, i'm still getting this error, even with latest twrp, i'm using the command fastboot flash boot and then it boots to twrp, but i can't seem to boot into system again... it bootloops and goes back to rom default recovery, twrp vanishes...
the solution is to flash the rom again but I can't seem to be able to install twrp.
The correct command is fastboot boot *twrp img* Format data, flash rom, restart system. Recovery will be replaced so boot from twrp again there in advance section you can use flash this version of twrp option to make it permanent.
Maybe you are flashing TWRP on MIUI and somehow it's not saving changes

I think you must have installed the rom in another partition, if you installed it in A change it in twrp and restart the system, And the same thing in partition B

Question tried installing twrp (not official) and now stuck on bootloop

good morning
today i unlocked the bootloader and tried installing an unofficial twrp made for my phone, everything went fine, the recovery img flashed but when i tried to go to recovery it got stuck on bootloop.
ive tried a different version and im gonna try orange fox but i cant start my phone, only on fastboot
the recovery came from android geek or something
No meu funcionou apenas o TWRP 3.6.0 vc acha ele aqui no fórum.
