European (C432) Mate 40 Pro native GMS for Google-login (non-root non-virtual) Euro-variant International [NOH-NX9] - Huawei Mate 40 Pro Guides, News, & Discussion

I will keep this post updated if working solutions are shared.
Native Solutions (with push notifications, location services, google login):
None so far.
Virtual Machine environments:
Lighthouse (Only working for C636 region, not C432 euro-edition)
OurPlay (Chinese-only interface, but uses system languge for installed apps)
DualSpace (loses ability to install apps/updates after a day)
VMOS (old android v7, with virtual root and Xposed)
VPhoneGaGa (old Android v7, with virtual root)
Since many threads have confusion about methods which only work for Chinese version, please help confirm GMS installation methods for the international version, so we can test properly. Because Google apps are what many of our coworkers, colleagues, and friends use we unfortunately can't just abandon them. Therefore, only solutions that work with login to Google services (not just GMS but actual Google authentication, like for Gmail, Google Voice, YouTube Music, Meet, Chat, Maps, Calendar, Photos, etc.) will be accepted.
Apparently MicroG only works for apps which don't need to use Google login, has anyone found a real solution? Is there any downside to install Chinese firmware onto the phone (will OTA updates still work)? https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...o-international-mate-40-pro-possible.4196699/

I think we will have to wait a while for a Way that works on the International Model, there's literally no working Way right now.
I got used to use Outlook for my Gmail Account, YouTube Vanced which is better then the Normal YouTube App and i do use Google Maps but i never logged in there so it's not a problem for me. But of course a working Way would be nice.
And afaik you can't just Flash the Chinese Rom so easily...
I'm still wondering why the International Version is so much more locked up Software wise then the Chinese one

Hi..
I have the international version and you are right, the Chinese method does not work with this model.
I have sped the last 7 days with this phone and almost tried all combinations of installations and nothing works.. Seems I can't get the App "G" (whatever its called) to work my the device and I don't want to downgrade the OS. I just can't believe that a giant like Huawei just gave up and didn't leave any backdoors for us to use the phone. in my opinion, Huawei mobile phone business is doomed. its unfortunate for a perfect phone to lack basic apps just because of Google and US gaining on the company.
Hopefully, things will change once TRUMP is pushed out of office soon.

Do you have guidance on the last version of Maps ??
I have it just on 10.49.3 version ...

Huawei is way far from being doomed, they are very successful in Asia where nobody is obsessed with Google. There is life without Google but it's not as comfortable as all western users are used to.
Actually I would blame Google for being so closed and not allowing proper app support without GMS and developers that rely so much on Google services like Firebase. How is it possible that a banking app is not able to function without GMS? Or Microsoft Teams still complaining that GMS is not available... Big part of the world is too dependent on a couple of US based companies...
Also even without Trump there is a very small chance that anything will change in regards to US ban and sanctions on Huawei.
App "G" is called LZPlay. Here is a good read what it actually does:

I am quite comfortable without GMS and I still use some of the Google apps. WebApps are actually quite decent: Google Fotos, Google Drive etc.
Now when it comes to GMS implementation on Huawei. Not sure what will just waiting change, who do you think will change anything?
Only way to install GMS without Google approval would be to use MDM (mobile device management) app that functions similarly to LZPlay but is owned by a developer who is not hiding as it is a case with LZPlay. But I don't think that Huawei will now approve a signed build of any app that will try to use those APIs mentioned in the article.
In China they can do whatever they want with the FW but in rest of the world they comply with the ban. Also it seems that Google specifically needs to white-list device fingeprints. MicroG should in theory work with new Huawei phones even including log-in but it does not, exactly due to the missing white list.
RTFM, push app developers to work with HMS and educate yourself on what is really the problem. Alternatively just wait

Totally disagree that in Asia nobody is obsessed with Google. China doesn't represent Asia. Most countries outside China is using GMS on daily basis. They use G Suite, Gmail in business, Especially during this pandemic time, Google Meet is one of the frequent used App for communication. Not to mention many travelling apps, banking apps are relied on GMS.
You may able to survive without GMS, but just like itchiness, it won't kill you, but it just annoys you all the time.

That is a good statement. But the situation is as it is and simple peasant users like we are will not be able to change it

Any updates on this?

I've purchased Huawei Mate 40 Pro on yesterday, but seems like everyone is facing the same issue when installing GMS using Googlefier that lzplay show message in Chinese that it didn't support for this device. Maybe there's alternative way to reinstall the app again?

but I never see solution that people downgrade (Mate 40 Pro) and install GMS

All GMS installation methods used so far are based on EMUI 10. Mate40 pro has EMUI 11, so nothing will work for now.

Tried installing the app the only problem is it you can only use the app with a china IP address so i couldnt fully verify if it works or not.
Anybody wanna try for mate 40 international phones?
Installer can be downloaded on their site ourplay.net

I have a EVA-AL00 arriving tomorrow...what do I need to know?

Ok, so I bought a P9 ( EVA-AL00 ) since I've always been a fan of Leica products, and I'm a hobbyist photographer. First off, I currently use an iPhone 5s for the last 2 months, and before that was using a OnePlus One, and before that an iPhone 5c and Blackberry Passport, so I've had a variety ogf phones over the last 2 years. I'm not into hacking, or unlocking or locking bootloaders and that type of thing, which is why I generally like Apple products, as they just seem to work out of the box. I'm leaving my 5s because the screen is too small, and I like what the P9 offers for the money, at a cheaper price point than an iPhone 6s. And the Leica optics.
So, having said that, what do I need to know once I get the phone tomorrow? Any critical or important tips or tricks? Again, I'm not into anything complicated when it comes to phones like rooting, etc... I'm in Canada and my Carrier is Bell. My ANdroid experience has been with the OnePlus One I used for a while, and I was generally pleased with it.
Thanks
Ok, so phone arrived. I made a mistake. It's a EVA-DL00.
It's running EVA-DL00C17B163, and I'm currently updating to 168. This is a CHinese version of the phone, from my understanding. I'm using it in English, but some things are still in Chinese. Is there any way to to flash with other software to make it all English?

I recently bought the EVA-L10 (Chinese Dual-Sim, "premium" version, 4G/64G) while in Shanghai, and I have the same "problem" as you.
Basically since Google is not available in China, the phones sold in China don't come with Google Android framework, they use a "non-google Android", based of the official Android.
So, to your question, will it be possible to flash another firmware over your phones firmware? I say Yes, however at the same time I'm lying, because I'm also looking for this firmware for my phone, but if someone posts a EVA-L29 Firmware somewhere on the Interweb, I'm most certain this firmware will work on my phone and should also work on yours (might require bootloader unlock and root, but so what..).
But the phone is, chinese apps or not, awesome
/S
You can install Google stuff. Just download the Google Play store from the Huawei store, and then have at 'er installing all the normal Google Play apps that you want. That's what I'm currently doing. I just want to get rid of all the Chinese stuff on the phone. ALso, switch the keyboard to the regular Android one in the settings.

Hi!
Of course, but there are still some applications that are "System Applications" that you cant get rid of, like HiCare, HiApp, .. etc. and if you are in a country using special characters like ü or åäö, these are not rendered correct in the Mail app (shows up as chinese chars).

Hi,
I also bought a P9 ( EVA-AL00 ) last June, and currently i'm having an issue.
Usually i don't have games on my phone, or almost none, but some days ago, i wanted to install Heartstone on my P9. When downloading , at about 85%, sometimes 9x% (once it reached 100%) suddently it pops out from Google Play, and don't install the game. I tried also with other games and it happens the same. It doesn't happens with every game, i tested sucessfully with Stack and Sokoban
I have plenty of free space on phone and several applications installed (no Google Play issue, i think).
After i received the phone, i download the Google services/play store APK without issues. I deactivated the chinese bloatware, with no issues. Once Google Play installed, i downloaded all other Google Apps i use and others without issues...well there is an issue i had with RT app. It installed ok, but sometimes when i want to open it, i have to try several times to open it... I click on icon but closes.
Have someone here with EVA-AL00 having this issue also?
Thanks!

I just bought the non-carrier specific 3G / 32G Chinese version (EVA AL00) P9 when I was in Guangzhou last week and had to do the following after coming back home to get it to work with google and sync with two google accounts.
1. Install Google Play Store from HiApp and sign in with first google account.
2. Make sure to give Google Play Store permission to access storage, otherwise large apps won't install.
3. Download apk of Google Contacts Sync from APKMirror
4. Download apk of Google Calendar Sync from APKMirror
5. Use the browser on the phone to download these two apk files and follow the instruction on the phone to install them.
Sorry I'm not allowed to post outside links yet, however google search keywords like Google Contacts Sync APK will turn up the download links.
6. Since the phone still did not allow me to add a second google account in Settings -> Accounts -> Add Account, I had to install Youtube and use the Add Account in Youtube to add a second google account.
After these steps, I was able to sync contacts and calendar events with both google accounts and install apps from Play Store.

There's life without GMS

I was hesitant to buy P40 Pro (I had P30 pro) because of a lack of GMS. But I am spontaneous and had a birthday... and both one
My first observations:
+Great camera - especially zoom one!
+video is better
+Has double tap to wake up, boy how I missed this I disabled it - too many self unlocks
+Fast!
+UFS 3 is a lot faster internal storage than 2 on P30 - downloading pictures is 2x faster over WiFi
-the screen is a bit darker than P30's?
-this huge cutout on a screen for useless (for me!) 3D camera
-has pre-applied screen protector I removed it and now is fine
-The wide camera is 18mm instead of 16mm in P30 Pro
- battery last shorter time
more + and - will come as I use it from 5 h
Now about missing services - phone clone app is by far the best cloning solution I ever used - in 5 minutes I had an almost exact copy of my P30!!! Minus Google Chrome and something else, I can't remember I miss Chrome but for now, with some minor hiccups, FireFox is filling the gap! Chrome is the best I installed it
All apps I use are up and running for the moment - future updates I need to figure it out how to backup calendar? - The internal backup app is doing the job remain to be seen restore if needed
In General, I am happy with it, only time can prove me wrong
Thanks for sharing your experiences! Still doubting to buy this phone. Chromecast and lack of Strava are the only things really holding me back at the moment.
Chrome I never use anyway (Firefox preview is nice!), I suppose Brave Browder doesn't work either? Or does it?

Aha alright. Have you tried APKPure already? This app keeps your apps up to date as well. Or AuroraStore, it's kind of similar I believe. Same goes for the Amazon AppStore, or AppGallery of course. I just hope developers will make apps for AppGallery as well, so we can enjoy Netflix in HD instead of SD, hehe.

Of about 120 apps there's only 1 that i really need which I can't get to run (parklio, they rely on google for the login it seems).
I can easily replace the weather apps that won't work without google, a couple of apps like Banking keep complaining about missing google play services but still work.
Somehow it feels really good to be able to get rid of google in one way or another.
After some time of usage - updating apps seems to be an issue - I played Clash of clans for some years (nursing children accounts too ) and when moved to P40 everything seems to be ok BUT new version seems to be a problem - found the game in Amazon store - when tried to install it sais uninstall first - I'll lose all accounts after new version arrived tried again this time Amazon Instaled the game as e second version without accounts ....
I have all my apps and games without GMS. Just Sparkasse Bank in Germany haven't but in the future I believe that it will be solved.
And I'm happy without GMS. And my Handy is also happy without Googles devil in my phone.
Is there a chance to run the store and other applications without pop-up notifications? I have tried several articles but none of them remove notifications about the lack of certificates. After 30 minutes of attempts, google frimework id returns, I delete the old gsm application and install v2 but notifications like that are still there. Anyone have any idea or know the solution?
The P40 Pro has been a blessing in disguise. Challenging at first, it has been a great exercise to eliminate my reliance on Google services. The only Google app that I have installed (other than Android lol) is YouTube Vanced. I just wanted the player instead of the website, and I'm not even logging into it.
I'm also using Waze which apparently is owned by Google, but it does not rely on GMS at all. I do miss Google Maps a little, especially my custom maps and pins everywhere. Time will tell if I really need to come up with a workaround, but I'd rather not pollute my phone
Using mainly APKPure and APKMirror, I got all my apps back. Some apps throw Play Services error when trying to access some features, but overall they've retained all the functionality that I care about. I was never much of a "digitally connected/synced" person to begin with. I don't like logging into apps left and right or having them store my activity online, so maybe this switch is easier for me than others. I also never really used GMail for anything but Android related stuff, and I stopped using Microsoft/Outlook accounts in favor of Protonmail, once again trying to reduce my reliance on the tech giants.
Can we live without Google if they do not want us?
We can use the best phone without Google
My advise:
install Microsoft New Edge browser to notebook and sign in with your microsoft account. Do the same on P40 Pro. For Install, I use AppGallery, when app is not there I use APKPure. Some apps did not work if I used some other Store.
Install:
OneDrive - not only one of the best cloud drive, with this app you can upload photos to notebook and then forward to google photos from notebook.
Outlook - it can superb handle gmail AND google calendar. I have shared google calendars with my wife and kids. Outlook can do this. I do not know any other app that can do that.
Here we go - Excellent navigation. I have allways used Google Maps. It is the best. Period. But, as I daily drive 300+km, Maps often do not find the address. I then used app Here, wich did the job. We still can use Google Maps App, you only can not sign in to the app. In that case i have browser bookmark at home screen. So, with maps we are good covered. (there are more apps that are great, but this is enough)
Problem is with our Bank Apps.
I have accounts at 2 Banks, I am forced to have two, not big deal. My point here: One Bank work great over my browser. Confirmation number I get to SMS. It is not ideal, but it works.
Another bank use app that produce onetime code. There is not workaround with the browser.
I have solved that another way: my another Huawei (P smart Z). This phone can use GMS. I installed AirDroid to PsmartZ and all APPS that do not work on P40 Pro. Then, I installed AirMirror to P40 Pro. When needed, I can connect to P smart Z from anywhere, use that app and then close the connection.
Apps that do not work:
-Google apps where you have to sign in
-Microsoft Authenticator, Google Authenticator
-SmartRemote Bosch (unbelivable)
-Lidl, Lidl Plus (unbelivable)
-ChargeMap, ABRP
-DEŽ - simple but great rain radar picture here in Slovenia
What we need fast is ability to pay wih phone. Huawei must do more here.
But my bank have send me email, they are working on their banking app to work with new Huawei Phones, YESSSS!!
I will write more, I have run out of tint
I still do not understand, why google do not sell GMS online?
Google can not work with Huawei, but can sell software to me, or not?
Outook is really great app. It can sync google contacts!!!!!!
Good to know, If anybody need this.... I DO!!!!!
I posted some of this elsewhere but this feels like a good thread to put useful non GPS info into. I got my P40 Pro yesterday and am hoping to avoid GPS as it seems to be quite a complicated process that does not always stick and needs repeating regularly. Also the opportunity to de-google is actually quite tempting. Here is what I have found so far:
- My Lastpass, PayPal and banking apps work totally fine as before. What is interesting though is I saw some info that said that these work ok if you transfer using Phone Clone but may stop working if you then update them using other sources. I have another droid so will likely manage updates for these by Phone Clone
- Outlook seems to work ok for notifications but I am not sure they come through as regular as they should. I think it would be good to start a list of apps that do not rely on GPS to push notifications. Sadly Newton mail does
- Google photos is the hardest to replace seamlessly, Amazon photos should be a good alternative (if you have prime) but just seems to crash constantly. I have OneDrive but am still considering if I want to carry on using Google photos as my main photo repo, such a shame that DropBox stopped carousel as that was great!
- Chrome actually seems to work, you just cannot login.
If there are any fellow non-GPS people out there shared experiences appreciated!

Huawei P40 Lite vs Microsoft Authenticator- Push notifications not working!

Hi!
I'm trying to setup MFA from Microsoft using their MS Authenticator app, on my Huawei P40 Lite. It isn't working and i get an error saying something about "push notifications registration failed". I guess this is related to the non existing Google Services, right?
When i got the smartphone (April 2020) i followed one of the multiple guides i found on YouTube to install Google Services and all seemed to work ok. I never got any errors/problems since. Also, i get notifications from "all" my usual apps - WhatsApp, Facebook, Twitter, Gmail app, etc.
Anyone has ideas? Is there anyway to "update" the Google Services installation "procedure", without reseting my Huawei P40 Lite?
Regards,
JP
If the App uses GMS or GCM (both google messaging) then it will most likely not work. I have the same Problem with my 3CX Client App aswell as VIP Access MFA

I really don't know if Microsoft Authenticator app uses GMS or GCM. I don't have the tech skills to say that. I just assumed so, because i can't get it to work on my Huawei P40 Lite (i get a push notifications registration error) but i can make it work on a Huawei P20 Lite (for example), using the same Microsoft accounts. This is BS! :crying:
Thanks for you help!
Microsoft Authenticator will never work on Huawei phones due to 2 things:
- Mandatory GCM for push notifications
- Google Services check in manifest that cannot be bypassed.
Never again will I buy a phone without booloader unlock.
if you have the google service installed and the notification push activated or you freeze the gfs to have the notification push it will work!

It's too much of a bet. It's very unfortunate as the hardware is extremely good, but really, even with adding the phone to the android custom rom exception listing, it's way too much of a hassle.
Checking back in a few years, but it's looking dark unless bootloader is unlocked and custom roms start getting in. I believe it will never happen in order to protect other chinese manufacturers like Xiaomi & Oppo.

Well vivo, from which place are you buying it from?
Ive seen the phone before, if its from India then it would have google apps etc.
And you would get security updates and you would have google photos.
In my mind, only China imported phones don't have google services sometimes.

uh oh, I ordered it from Hong Kong. fingers crossed then. should have asked here first.
Welllllll, its probably likely theres no google services, but when you get it just post a thread if you don't have it and tag me. Ill try to help you install the global version of the rom on it.
Yeah china banned google atuff with google play so your best bet is to wait till uou recieve it and flash the global rom or you should cancel and choose smth else.

Can you explain how to install funtouch os firmware?
Hi,
I've got the chinese version too, and I'm based in Switzerland.
Actually, it's working good, but not perfect. Some things are missing or not working perfectly and some things are hard coded chinese. But as a daily driver for taking perfect photos, calling/messaging its "working".
Some points:
- Google (Play) Services preinstalled, can be loaded through the vivo app store when installing gmail app
- Backup/Syncing working, but the initial restore from an old phone is not offered through google initial setup
- google photos, maps and so on are working, only location history can't be enabled.
- Regular OriginOS updates
- some chinese default bloatware preinstalled, some can be uninstalled
- no google now, just a chinese vivo version
- android auto doesn't work atm
- some fine tuning necessary with default apps, and so on
- google pay, banking apps working
Over all, it's working for me, but i'm missing some tiny bits, which a global rom could fix. But in comparison what you get (camera, performance, display, price...), it's a aceptable device for me.
If you need specific infos, just leave me a note.
If there's a global rom, i would be interessfed too.

thanks for all that info. mine is currently in transit to me. i feel much better after reading your comments. i love taking pictures and that is my main reason for getting this phone. will for sure reach out with questions if needed after I get it.
You won't regret it. This phone just captures perfect photos. Even in comparisson to the samsung s21 ultra. My opinion (and my wife with a s21 ultra).
Some things are annyoing but i can live with it. I mean, I can even do phone calls
Just a night shot from now 2 a.m. - it's dark outside and this camera manages to capture photos like its late afternoon...

Oh google play services are preinstalled?
That's actually new to me.
Sorry, I guess I was kind of misleading with google being removed. It was banned in china but I did not know that google play services still worked.
I received it on Friday. Chinese version definitely. But Google Play Store already installed. I downloaded all the normal Google apps like Android Messages, Chrome, Contacts & Calendar and they all seem to be perfect. Thinking now, I didn’t download Maps yet. There was an originOS update available and a couple of apps had their own also, like I believe the Camera app. So I'm relieved that updates do come through.
First impressions are positive. It is sleek. Kind of nice how it comes with a screen protector pre installed and it comes with a pretty nice back cover.
I "had to have" this because like I said I love taking photos. Just for reference I have a Sony Xperia 1 ii (for sale on ebay), a Galaxy S21 Ultra (going back to Amazon) and a 12 Pro Max. I shot a lot of photos today with the X60 Pro+. They are all nice. A couple though came out tremendously well. I think to get similar photos I would have had to get my Sony a7C or Sigma fp with a fast 85mm to get the same shot. I for sure would not have gotten the same quality from my other smartphones.
Anyways I don’t think I will try to get the global software on this. Seems like I'll be good.

Hi from Austria perfect Summary i totally agree with you, i am happy with the China version, for that price ~ 750€ you will get nice hardware, OriginOS is also nice, i like the gesture navigation, but im missing google maps location history so much, there is some restriction on China for google services, because china dont want to be tracked by usa google... other brands from china have same issue with location history.
I found in this thread with some fix for rooted phones to enable ROM to use location history:
Ennable Google Maps Location Sharing & Location History on Chinese MIUI ROM
You need Magisk properly installed on your ROM and then download & install the following modules:
Releases · fei-ke/unlock-cn-gms
去除国行 GMS 某些限制. Contribute to fei-ke/unlock-cn-gms development by creating an account on GitHub.

[Magisk module] Google location history unlock for Chinese MIUI roms only
Hi, posting my Magisk mod that I am using since couple of years. This mod works and testen on K20 pro, Note 7 Pro and K30 Pro Zoom Edition. What does it do? It enabled Google location History in Google maps. This is only needed for Chinese roms...

maybe @Kenora_I can help us to flash Global Rom from India... hopefully without brickung our phones
@Kenora_I is it possible to flash Global Rom with banking apps working to pay with nfc ?

Hello Everyone.
I am about to buy this phone but still having some doubts because of the OriginOS. I live in New Zealand. Just would like to ask a couple of questions:
- does it allow to install and use Nova Launcher with gestures?
- is this notification bar and settings bar changeable or at least can set up some gestures for that? Otherwise it requires to touch the top edge of the phone which is not perfect for me
- notifications are visible in Always on Display from FB, whats up, non stock phone or messages apps or not at all?
- does anyone use that with company portal and MS Authenticator? and its working fine?
- how is the battery life - roughly SOT?
I will be really grateful for any help!
Thank you!
Peter

Since nobody wants to answer, I will, but I don't use X60 pro+. I have IQOO and had x50 pro+ and therefore the answer can't fail a lot.
1. I didn't try Nova, but I installed Star Prime and it works with gestures as long as you don't uninstall original launcher.
2. Not that I'm aware of.
3. Don't use unsecure apps, but the custom dialer and messages are supported on AOD.
4. Don't use work portal, but there is no reason to not work.
5. Battery is good, one day with heavy use, two with moderate.

My (short) time without GMS

I wanted to give my experience of using the Mate 40 Pro without Google Services as I believe it's interesting. I get a little obsessed when I can't have something I'm used to having, and am happy to bootloader unlock or otherwise hack my phone to get GMS working like I did with my previous phone, the great Huawei P40 Pro. Don't get me wrong, compromises are required but what can it do or not do.
I should start by detailing what I normally do with a phone.
I use the normal social media apps, WhatsApp, FB, FB Messenger, Reddit, Discord and Twitter. I watch YouTube videos, listen to Spotify, Apple Music, have a few light games, nothing intensive, have a few email clients one for work (Outlook) and one for personal email (Spark - because I like the way it works with multiple accounts). I also use it for banking, food delivery services and shopping with Amazon, eBay etc. I would use the phone for occasional Android Auto duties and route guidance using Google maps. Finally I of course browse the Web. So all in all I would guess that's fairly a normal usage scenario.
First off I should say that of the above list I can do all of that with my Mate 40 Pro. With the exception of Android Auto. But not always as convenient as I could.
Now I've already given a hint at my tech level so I'm not an average consumer and this phone cannot be used to its fullest by your average end user.
Using Phone Clone to setup the phone I have most of my apps working. Notable exceptions are ebay, YouTube and Google Pay. I keep my apps up to date using Aurora Store and try to avoid using the Huawei App Store for anything.
What have I done about ebay and YouTube? I use the web versions. They are fine for my needs, just not quite as convenient as the apps.
Google Pay was something I didn't want to continue to be blocked from using (obviously the P40 Pro even with GMS installed couldn't use Google Pay) so I ended up replacing it with Curve. This app / account provides NFC payments across all your banking cards as well as storing all your loyalty cards too. So almost a direct replacement for Google Pay.
As for Android Auto, that's the one thing I haven't been able to sort out a replacement for but I'm lucky enough to have sat nav in the car which works with the HUD (Android Auto didn't) and using the phone as a wireless hotspot and streaming audio over Bluetooth audio I'm not missing it at all.
It's not perfect but with a little effort it's a lot better than expected. Obviously everyone's mileage will vary.
With all that said, how long will I keep the phone for? No idea, I'm already eying up an Honor Magic 4 Pro but also prepared to consider future Huawei devices.
I'm now selling my Mate 40 pro after over a year of use easily been the best phone that I've owned, changed to a Mi 11 Ultra - First things of note are adverts everywhere, nothing much on the Mate. Like you any apps that don't work then over to the web apps although not sure why ebay doesn't work for you as it does for me (except notifications). The Honor Magic 4 Pro isn't a better device than the Mate (unless GMS is what you want back) the Ultimate version might be a different kettle of fish though, but that sounds like a China only release.
@gnasher666: For Android Auto you can use AAwireless, and for YouTube can still use YouTube vanced, with logging option (even they have stopped it's support, you can still find the apk).

AAwireless, is that the box you buy?
Yes.
I have a friend who bought something like this, he said it works fine.
He recently said he changed it and bought something more expensive, I don't know exactly what he got now.
No phone can really replace the Mate 40 Pro, the camera is just way too good.
I'm looking forward to importing the Magic 4 Pro Ultimate or buying any worthy phone, since all phones that released in this year are not good at all.

I'm very interested in the Magic 4 Pro Ultimate too. Honor are suggesting it may have a global release at some point.
If you don't mind the missing push notifications,
you can still get most apps (not google related apps) via APKPure (which will be genuine apps and they do provide SHA256 checksum, but I believe you will do the hashing checksum again by yourself)
Ebay, bank apps, everything I need works just great
