System update missing after debloating - Samsung Galaxy S20 FE Questions & Answers

I just debloated my sm-G781W using the list here and here.
I’m not sure what packages I removed, but for some reason I cannot see system update on about phone.
There are no notifications either when there’s a new software update.
I need help restoring the ability to check for updates.

Can't Install OTA after MM root/recovery

I am currently on N910TUVS2EPG2 "July Security update" which I've only installed TWRP recovery and root. I went back to samsung stock recovery and unrooted. But system/data/other partitions were left alone. However when trying to install the "October Security update" the update still caught me with a modified phone.
I get a the familiar message:
Software Update
The operating system on your device had been modified in an unauthorized way. Try downloading software update using Smart Switch on your computer...

Has anyone tried to sideload the TMO OTA "October Security update" through the the stock recovery? I'm referring to these 2 options in the stock recovery.
apply update from adb
apply update from sdcard
I know the full system images are uploaded by DeeXii and located HERE. But I don't see the OTA files anywhere. Where can i download the October OTA update?
Apparently there is this wonderful official Samsung app called Smart Switch. I had low expectations of getting the OTA since this seems like a generic cover all bases message from Samsung. Before running Smart Switch I had went back to Samsung's stock recovery and unrooted.

It detected N910TUVS2EPG2 "July Security update" running on the phone. And offered to upgrade to EPJ2 "October Security update". I accepted, the app took some time to download a big update. I'm guessing it's the full 2GB note 4 stock image. After the download was complete the phone automatically rebooted to "Download Mode". Smart Switch pushed the update, booted, cache had be to rebuilt.
At this point I am on the EPJ2 ROM and EPJ2 modem firmware. Everything was back to stock but my data, apps, settings are completely intact. I had to disable a few apps like Amazon, Facebook, Flipboard, Google+, Hangouts, etc. which were re-enabled by the new ROM. All that was left to do was use Odin to install twrp and SuperSU. Kudos to Samsung for making it easy. :good: :highfive:

It is Recommended to install the latest v7.4.2 Firmware?

I received my BLU R1 HD 2/16GB and the phone brought the following Firmware: BLU_R0010UU_V6.1_GENERIC, but when using it for several hours, a notification message warned me that there was a new firmware available: BLU_R0010UU_V7.4.2_GENERIC
So, I would like to know if it is Recommended to install this new Version 7.4.2, and what new improvements does it have?

The update has some valid changes. There are some backdoors in the fota(firmware over the air) itself and also general android security patches that are addressed. Then there is the addition of volte and band 12 that the update fixes.
Now there are also attempts in the update to block the ability to root the device and also block the use of flashing tools that can be used to restore a bricked phone(also modify firmware).
So if root and flashing are desirable to you then the update is bad, there are community modified updates available that preserve these abilities.
So now the choice is up to you, if the update is good or not.

Thanks mrmazak for your quick reply!
So, you think that maybe is better not to update the BLU R1 HD to the latest 7.4.2 firmware?
Problem is that this 7.4.2 file has been already downloaded automatically to my BLU R1 HD phone internal memory, and is only waiting for a manual update confirmation by me or a phone reset...
If this 7.4.2 firmware has been downloaded and is already stored and waiting for an installation, how can I blocked it?
Perhaps you or someone else here, knows where the previously Downloaded Firmware File is stored or hidden, so I could be able to deleted it, before reset my Phone, to avoid the Auto installation?
Please, could you post the link of these "Community Modified Updates" that preserve these abilities of the 7.4.2 Firmware?
Thanks in advance for your help!

Where to find and download minor OTA updates to install them on rooted devices?

Please excuse the naive question ...
... but how/where does one find the OTA files, i.e. the links to download them from, in order to keep a rooted device up-to-date?
Capturing the download link via the Android Debug Bridge (ADB) requires the OTA notifications to appear and the respective files to be downloaded, in order to then capture them via adb logcat > OTA.txt. Even if this did not require an unrooted device running an original manufacturer firmware (if we had this, we wouldn't need to go through all the hassle in the first place): it takes a looooong time for the logcat to create a loong file, in which searching for the download link resembles punishment for an amok shooter.
The reason why anybody would need the download links for OTA files is because they are on a custom ROM, have flashed TWRP, rooted their device or similar modifications. In that case, there are no more OTA notifications, i.e. one is not informed of what and when a bugfix or the like becomes available, and if trying to check for updates manually, the phone displays the following error message:
Failed to update software
Your phone's operating system has been modified in an unauthorised way. Try downloading ...
The first thing to note is the arrogance with which manufacturers and telephone operators seem to believe that they had any right to decide what is authorised and what not on our property. Unless somebody with deep pockets or the EU sue them over this impertinence, there is not much we ordinary mortals will be able to do against those oligopolists.
The burning practical question are therefore:
1.) How to get notified of minor updates, bugfixes and security patches like monthly updates when they become available?
2.) How and where to download them?
3.) How to install them?
The large firmware packages are no problem, those one can find at every corner of the street. The problem are the minor bugfixes, security patches and updates between major version numbers and sometimes even apps. Are there any proven methods that work reliably and that do neither require one to study electronics, programming and voodoo, nor force one to re-flash and re-root everything again from square one before every update, plus reinstalling and configuring everything thereafter?
In case the information is necessary, the phone is a SAMSUNG Galaxy Note 9 with Snapdragon SD-845 (SM-N9600), current firmware
BL : N9600ZHS1CSC2, AP : N9600ZHS1CSC2, CP : N9600ZCU1CSAB, CSC : N9600OWO1CSB1
In a nutshell, are there ways to become aware of and apply all updates while keeping the device rooted, or is the procedure more convoluted and repetitive after every update than what Root is worth?

How can I prevent T-Mobile OTA pie update and stay on 8.1?

I have a Galaxy note 9 running 8.1 and would like to stay there. My phone is the T-Mobile branded one. Unfortunately it seems that my phone has downloaded the OTA update to pie and is asking me to install it. I clicked "Later" but I'm afraid that won't last forever. How can I delete the downloaded data and also disable the update from happening in the future?
I am a complete novice when it comes to software stuff so things like "flashing" memory etc may be beyond my scope unless it's very simple. I do follow instruction well though
I understand that I am forgoing security updates and I'm ok with that. After finishing up with a Galaxy S7 that was painfully slow on its last update and having it eat battery, I'd like to stick with the original software. There are other things like the camera app, layout, etc. that I'd just rather stick to.
Aside from rooting the phone, is there any way to just kill the update program? How can I delete the downloaded update to free up memory? I read someplace that rebooting the phone would install the update - so do I need to factory data reset and start over? (I just got the phone so I'm ok doing that)

you may have a couple of options.
I have heard that if you reboot in to the bootloader mode and clear cache then it will get rid of the downloaded firmware update.
I'm not sure.
you can download package disabler pro and disable the update services. I went back to oreo after pie update was horrible.
in package disabler pro follow the directions to enable it
search in the app for "update"
I disabled
"Software update" (com.sec.android.soagent)
"Software update" (com.wssyncmldm)
"System updates" (com.samsung.sdm)
No more updates or notifications
Good luck

You can flash the unlocked 8.1 oreo ROM and it will remove the ability to receive updates all together. it will also remove all the bloatware from tmobile. You will have to flash this with odin. After downloading the .zip ROM, Unzip it and flash all 4 files.
You want the XAA download.

You still need package disabler pro or some kind if service blocker.
I down graded to Oreo on two devices using XAA and I still got firmware update messages for pie. Once I set up the phone.
Blocking the services keeps the phone from checking and downloading the update.

Easiest thing to do is to flash a different version modem for your device. Just flash the previous version modem file with Odin and you'll be set. If you want ota again, just flash the modem for your device matching the software update your device has installed.
I was on Oreo running the Pie modem and never got the Pie ota alert.

My phone has already downloaded the update and is prompting me to install it. If I flash or run a package disabler at this point will it be effective? How can I erase the update data so it isnt eating space? Do I need to factory reset the phone first to wipe all that out before I flash or run disabler?

You could try clearing cache like an earlier poster suggested.

New Updates for the Honor 5C (L21, L23, L51) Jan. 2020

Hey guys,
suddenly there poped up a system update (B366 OTA) for my NEM-L51, which suprised me, because we haven't got any updates since Nov. 18 (B365),even for L21.
Now there seem to be B366 and B369 available( Jan. 2020), according to: https://pro-teammt.ru/online-firmware-database-ru/?firmware_model=nem-l51&firmware_page=0 and my OTA Updater.
I am quite suprised and wondering what they have to offer, but I can't find any real Patchnotes, the ones linked in the Updater : https://consumer.huawei.com/en/support/bulletin/2019/8/ refere to an "M3 Lite(CPN-L0J)".
So, a quick reminder, check your update, and maybe let me know what changed for you, especially concerning root and magisk.
This update improves system security with Android security patches.
Integrates Android security patches for improved system security. For more information on the security of Huawei EMUI system updates, please visit the official Huawei website: https://consumer.huawei.com/en/support/bulletin/2019/8/
Adds the AppGallery app, offering you more comprehensive app downloads and updates.
1. This update will not erase your personal data, but we recommend that you back up any important data before updating. 2. If you encounter any issues during the update, please call the Huawei customer service hotline or visit a Huawei customer service center for assistance.

Hello,
Well, with this update I have lost the USB debugging.
The option comes out. And it can change: on - off, but it really doesn't work. It also does not obey the USB configuration types, so there is no way to recognize it neither the PC nor ADB, and therefore the impossibility of connecting to the PC or doing root.
Sorry my nem-l51c432b130 dont want to find any new update, im on android 6 emui 4.1.2,how can i install the android 7 emui 5 or newer version, i dont even know the last version, thanks for help!
... please write me in private !
Just installed B366, it has the august '19 patches and a few UI Tweaks, there is an App Drawer now, Twin Apps are missing.
My fastboot is working for TWRP (Elite TWRP 3.2.1) and Magisk root (Boot Image Patching Method, https://topjohnwu.github.io/Magisk/install.html )
Had to upgrade through eRecovery after fastbooting the original B365 Recovery.
EDIT: Factory Resets using the TWRP Factory Reset Function break Bluetooth and NFC, only the "fresh" installation has functioning Bluetooth/NFC. Again eRecovery is very useful to get a fresh ROM, now its directly to B366.
Used the HuRUpdater_0.4 (https://forum.xda-developers.com/honor-9/development/tool-flash-official-firmware-recovery-t3769279 ) to get to B369, nothing new there.
Edit2: The calendar widget is still broken.
