Looking for a cosmetically pleasing magnetic charger. - Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra Accessories

Hey all,
I'm trying to find a magnetic charger for the N20U that meets a couple of requirements, and have had no luck online myself. The ideal charger would be:
Able to support the fastest available charging spec (25W?)
Rubber cable
360 Pivot (Not a must have)
A bronze colored tip to match the phone (Also not a must have)
This being a $1,200+ phone, I'd love a cable to match it that doesn't feel like utter garbage. I'm certain there a plenty of compromises to be made on your favorite Chinese import brand that works just as well, but I am looking to fit my needs specifically; so please don't fill this thread up with every Amazon Basic cable you come across.

I need a car holder that doesn't block the HD2's camera lens

Can anyone recommend a windscreen mount that would meet my following requirements?
1. Must hold the HD2 securely (goes without saying) - but doesn't have to be specifically designed for the HD2
2. Under or around £10 (can't afford those £40-£60 'official' things!)
3. Must not block camera lens as I wish to record some of my journeys
4. Can swivel portrait/landscape without removing
I have found a fair view that 'might' meet these requirements but I'd like to know for sure.
- http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/AIO-PREMIUM-C...ries_MobilePhoneBatteries?hash=item2304e852d0 <--- this looks decent but I can't work out whether it blocks the lens or not??
(some more but I've lost the urls - loads on DX to choose from)
Any help's much appreciated!
Hi, I bought this one on eBay:
WINDSCREEN SUCTION CAR HOLDER & CHARGER FOR HTC HD2 LEO, the company is "e-Cell"
It arrived yesterday and it works the way you want it to - there is a hole for the camera lens, but not for the LEDs, and it swivels all the way round.
It costs £7.85, with free P & P, and includes a cigarette lighter power supply (which I haven't used yet).
I hope this helps.
EDIT: I checked and the item is no longer listed - perhaps they're out of stock.
Thanks John, I managed to find the one you're referring to via Google but as you say it's sold out: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=200433261802
It looks very similar to the ones being sold by DX for other devices (currently none on DX for HD2), e.g.
http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.18225
http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.22814
It looks decent - how easy is it to put your HD2 into and remove it from the holder?
I've also found this super cheap universal one on DX: http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.23565
...which allows full swiveling and most likely the top of the HD2 (camera, flash) would stick out from the holder making it accessible for filming. I may order this one as I can always give it to a friend if it doesn't work out, though I'm def still interested in more stuff like your link.
Cheers
The Capdase Car Mount will work.
Try E-CELL on E-bay. I bought mine there, it is a veryy good holder for the HD2 and cost app. 8 pounds.
Search ebay for this "Holder Mount USB Car Charger For HTC Touch HD2 Leo 100". Has opening for camera and holds phone in landscape which is good for copilot.
Hi,
This is for the e-Cell model:
If you imagine the phone in the landscape position, with the five buttons to the right, the phone slots into two grips left and right, at the bottom. These are fixed and don't move, but at the top, in the centre of the phone holder is another clip that flexes to allow the insertion and removal of the phone. This piece of plastic then clips onto a standard flexible arm windscreen mount, which in turn fixes to the windscreen with a suction cup. There is a ball joint on the back of the phone clip, which, when you've found your best position, can be tightened to lock the mount so that it will not move.
I've only used mine a couple of times and it's relatively easy to put in and remove the phone, perhaps a bit stiff at first, and I've found it easier to fit the phone into the holder first and then attach the complete assembly to the windscreen. It seems to work OK, so it may be worth waiting for e-Cell to get new stock, particularly as you also get a cigarette lighter charger, and it's only £7.85 with free postage.
This looks similar to the e-Cell model:
http://www.mobilefun.co.uk/car-pack-for-the-htc-hd2-p23420.htm but they're sold out too! The joint on this looks more sophisticated, but it's more than twice as expensive. There seems to be a hole for the lens, but the picture isn't very clear.
http://cgi.ebay.it/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=280435698894&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT
mine, cheapest and camera effective, even if I'd prefer a joint-like arm instead of the one it's got
Hi Ephestione,
It's a pity we can't combine the best features of all the mounts. For instance, mine doesn't have the cushioned grips, so I'll have to be careful not to scratch the phone with the rigid clips.
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Car-Charger-Mount-Kit-Holder-for-HTC-Touch-HD-2-T8585_W0QQitemZ390175231504QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_MobilePhones_MobilePhoneAccessories_MobilePhoneBatteries?hash=item5ad8418e10
this one is available, exacly the same as ecell one, but will come "out of the box", and comes with a charger too. this seller also got the 1600mah andida battery.
for recording purpose, another good point is its having a strong and quite short metal neck that won't take cars vibrations as a long neck/flexible one would. definitely would recomend it.
Hi,
Yes, this is the same as the e-Cell item, and it works well. I paid a bit more because I was impatient and e-Cell seem to be UK based, so delivery was quicker. Some comments I found when I googled the holder questioned the location of the company, but I had no problems. I'll check out the battery, thanks.
I bought this and it will suit ur needs.

[Q] GoKart golf cart holder and portable charger

I've got a GoKart golf trolley and I have a Golf GPS program for my HD2, so firstly I need to find a holder for the phone but the question I have for you chaps is,
As I'm running Android on my HD2 and this eats batteries - can any of you recommend a good portable charger that works for the HD2? I'm thinking one of those battery packs that has a usb connetion - then I just plug in my standard lead......I may look to see if I can wire up a usb socket from the carts battery via a cig lighter type setup.
The reason why I think I need one is that a round of golf can be 4 hours long and I'd need to have the screen set to full brightness and always on so I can easily see the golf program.
any help would be great
cheers
As you're using a cigarette lighter would a generic car charger do?
Sorry to flag this up after so long.
Do you really need to see the program all the time? I use GolfGPS when im playing and have the screen turned off except when im stood over the ball ready to take a shot and need to know the yardage. Turning the screen off when not needed will save you loads of battery. My HD2 easily gets round a course with 50% or so to spare on battery life. I think GPS can be set to run in the background but even if not, it doesnt take more than a few seconds usually to figure out where you are!
As for holders, i dont know if you sorted it but have a look at http://www.pdahut.com/herbert-richter-holders-and-mounts/ , id imagine the bike handlebar one would probably fit onto a golfcart resonably well!
This site also has a good collection of bike mounts that may well be compatible with Golf cart. Holders and Mounts

I have bought this bicycle mount from ebay and wanted to share my overall positive opinion on it. It is quite cheap, 3,77$ including shipping to Taiwan, but well built, durable and functional nevertheless. It truly is designed especially for HD2.
Pros:
*really universal(up to 1 inch), it was easy to mount and dismount,. no hassle.
*Sturdy fixation on the steering bar.
*360 degree swirling ball-head joint, very easy to tilt.
* not covering any important part of the phone.
* the holder is cushioned wherever touches the plastic of Phone to reduce possible wearing. inserts.
Cons:
* Was rather hard to pull the phone off the mount, the battery cover tended to come off too. But i guess it is reasonable, otherwise the phone would snap off on every bump and jump. I just think that there might be another fixation mechanism, that could be both reliable and easy-releasing..
* no instruction or manual on how to mount/use the holder.
* it is even harder to pull the holder out from the fixed part. I imagine there would be cases when one would try to briefly release the phone out of holder (to make a call for instance) and put it back. Well, with current design it is rather hard. Me maybe I am doing something wrong. Or some parts need to work a couple of times back and forth until they get to the necessary usable condition? I will see..
* The plastic phone holder has a hole for camera, but i would rather prefer if it would have another hole for the LED light, to use it as an emergency blinking light in cases my bike light is damaged/dead.
Conclusion: I recommend - very handy accessory for frequent bikers, but more suitable for outdoor "sunny" biking, where one would not need to take the phone out and back frequently.
P.S. If there was a nice and cheap waterproof case (to drive in rain) i would have gone for it, but couldn't find any, so ended up with this

[WIP] The Nook Color Backpack....

To avoid jacking Verygreens thread on usb host support, I am creating this thread for development of the Nook Color Backpack.
What is the Backpack, you ask?
The Backpack will be an open hardware based addon similar in style to the sliders used on Compaq(HP) iPaqs. It will be self contained in that it will carry its own battery source for powering USB peripherals and also a few built in goodies such as a camera module, stereo speakers(possibly amplified), and possibly a GPS module.
This thread is to help others who may want to build a similar device and to accept input from the community on its design. PLEASE, refrain from any flame wars or other similar postings.
Feel free to post with suggestions, comments or even criticism(as long as it is constructive).
Reserved for schematics and other technical details....
reserved for pics and misc. details......
Neat idea! I'm looking forward to seeing where this goes.

Interesting idea...
Sparkfun.com sells a bunch of stuff that would make for a good prototype:
5V 600mA boost converter and LiIon charger (w/ microusb charging port):
http://www.sparkfun.com/products/10300
2Ah single LiPo cell:
http://www.sparkfun.com/products/8483
microUSB plug - right angle breakout:
http://www.sparkfun.com/products/10031
USB A socket:
http://www.sparkfun.com/products/9011
If you were planning to use a hub you'd need a more capable boost converter or go with 2 LiPo cells in series and step-down. For a proof-of-concept I think you can get pretty far with these parts.

Thanks pokey. I'll check into those. As far as the plug, I'm currently looking at buying and modifying a stock cable...to retain stock charging from a high amp source. Externally I think I will be going with a standard female USB A port for power in/stock USB connectivity.
The hub I've chosen so far is a cheapo Targus unpowered. Very easy to mod into what will be required.
Really need to get on a rough draft drawing of the general layout. I work 12 hours a day in construction. Ill try hard to squeeze spare time in for this and pics of the little I have done so far this week.

solar panel, 1.8" hard drive, flash card reader, speakers and 3g card are some things I think might also be cool in something like this.
I am digging this idea. Can't wait to see some progress on this. If the speakers were bt then you could limit the wires some. Space for a 1/8 inch hdd would be nice because you could just use a cf card if you desired. Could really make the nook into a sort of laptop device if done right. Really can't wait to see this. Also check this out. Found it in another thread. May want to add a holder for it into the design somehow. http://www.amazon.com/ProMini-Wireless-Bluetooth-Keyboard-TouchPad/dp/B003ZJEUBI/ref=pd_sim_e_1

It took some googling for me to figure out what you were trying to do, but I see now you want to make a hard case that slides over the back of the NC with some hardware integrated.
My main criticism is that the backpack form factor is really optimized for handheld devices, and the NC is already pushing the practical weight for a handheld device. We're looking at easily another 1lb or more with this hardware, rendering it more of a docking station, at which point an actual docking station with a keyboard makes more sense.
Still, if you do want to design a backpack, consider incorporating stands and grips to make it more ergonomic. For instance, you could have fold-out tripod legs, or a picture-frame style easel, and indentations or possibly even finger loops.
Personally, I would prefer a genuine dock to serve as the 'other half of the laptop,' without requiring that the NC be either permanently attached to all that hardware or removed from its primary case.
to make the hooks that go around the side you could use sugru to mold them. i would think that would work.
I have a few thoughts.
1. I might find time to make this into my obsession for a while, as much as this interests me. My degree is in electronic engineering and I'm a pretty crafty person so perhaps I can be of assistance. I will give it some thought and see if I can contribute. So busy this days with life...
2. One of the things I need to be able to switch from a full laptop is the ability to sit this thing on my lap and work from a keyboard. With all the current cases, they are not supported properly like a hinged laptop display so they have to be on something and propped up. To be able to use some type of hinged holder that is stiff enough to hold the Nook up would be awesome. I have some ideas on how to do this, it could be the finishing touch once it's all working.
3. With the functionality that most people seem to want, I personally don't think size is that big of an issue. Why don't we figure out how to mod one of the existing iPad cases or something of that nature? That would give a slightly larger keyboard and the extra space around where the Nook would attach and/or slide into could hold the additional hardware like speakers and such. IMO, if I can have the size of the Nook and pop it into something like this when I *really* need to work or type a long email, I'm cool with a slightly larger format.
I'm struggling to keep up with some of the latest info regarding USB host & BT support on the Nook and such, but I'll see if I can read up. I'm guessing that once the source for HC is released it all becomes easier and it appears that CM7 is already making a lot of progress.

More power to you, though it sounds like the Asus Transformer is exactly what you want.
Take a look at this:http://www.energizerpowerpacks.com/us/
I have 2 of the XP4001 models, each one is the size of a small usb hard drive. It has two usb ports on it and charges my phone, digital camera, and mp3 player great.
Haven't tried it on the Nook yet...
If I get what you're trying to do, taking apart one of the XP8000 models and going from there might be a good part of the prototype puzzle?
You can find these at office supply stores, more then big box electronics stores.

This looks like a great battery pack. Thanks for the link.
I've been thinking more and reading more on verygreens thread...I'm start to think KISS. Battery pack and USB hub, with one port facing each way(left, right, top, bottom). Then just make a modified camera with the cord eliminated and the plug molded right into its housing. Have opposite ports facing forward and backward at top and bottom to allow for video chat or (very large) camera usage.
Some benifits of this will be more flexibility in hardware, possible use as a simple battery pack for the nook, and MUCH easier designing of the charging/bypass circuits.

I see what you are saying...yeah, if I hold my nook one handed for any length of time...its heavy. As above, I have started thinking about keeping it simple. The hub I have only weighs an ounce or two, once stripped of the housing. The batteries will be the main source of weight/bulk. The charge controller is about dead simple using a picaxe 20x2 chip and very few components. Mostly it will just be a voltage source sensor and switch to transfer to the appropriate power source(battery or USB input).
I guess I haven't ever looked at this as a laptop converter, but rather as a way to complete the picture, by allowing the addition of things like a camera and microphone input that Android was made for.

Not sure if sugru will be strong enough. Was thinking more along the lines of custom molded fiberglass. Easy enough, light, damn strong. Mayhaps ill spring for some carbon fiber
@ troyy0206....feel free to work on a seperate design as well. This isn't all about what I want...its about designing something that anyone else can duplicate or modify to their needs. As an EE, you have a leg up on most of us in terms of designing the circuitry. I'm just good at putting parts together.

USB Type-C Magnetic Adapter Charging Cable

First of all, I’d like to put out there that this is a review for the item I purchased and might not be the same brand as the one you might end up with. I’m aware that there are several different brands, but I just got this one as it seemed like a good price, but more on that later.
What exactly is it?
It’s a charge/data cable with a female USB at one end and at the other a magnetic Type-C at the other (other adapters are available).
Who is it for?
Anyone but more importantly it’s for someone that charges their phone quite often. All you do is offer the cable end to the adapter and it magnetically clicks into place.
Why did I buy this?
I was, first of all, looking for more Type-C USB charging cables to put around the house so I can just stick my phone on charge as and when needed. I thought about buying a pack of standard USB cables however I remembered that a while ago I purchased something similar for another Mini-USB device I had and looked about for one that would work with my Note 8. I found one and ordered it off eBay.
Advantages
Wear and tear on the charger port. This is the bit of the phone that is more likely to fail (unless you count the screen being smashed) as you’re constantly plugging and unplugging the charger. If you charge your phone twice a day that’s 730 times a year you're pushing and pulling that plug into the port. With this adapter, you put that little bit in the charger port once and that’s it. Just offer up the cable and it magnetically clicks onto the adapter. Also if you were to accidentally catch the cable and wrench it then the cable will come away from the adapter and your expensive phone won’t get dragged onto the floor. Furthermore, the charging port will not get damaged, because if it does, it’s not just a matter of unscrewing a few screws and replacing the charging module.
Disadvantages
First main one is that you either need to carry the adapter cable around with you or you will need to purchase extras. This was my issue. I need one cable at home, one in my car and one in my truck. Plus another one to keep on you should you visit a friends house. The cables aren’t cheap either if you wanted to buy them separately. And there lies another issue. A lot of sellers have run out of stock of cables on their own, so you need to buy the whole thing, and at about £5 or so a pop for a cheap-ish one, then you’re looking at about £20 for a set. I’d suggest you purchase all the cables with a variety of adapters from the same seller that way you know they’re all going to fit.
Speaking of the tiny little adapters, they are really small, and if you drop one you’ll have a hard time finding it, and like the cables, they're sold separately but are sometimes out of stock. I dropped one in the kitchen and found it stuck to the bottom of the washing machine due to the magnet attracted to the metal.
Should I buy one?
Yes, in fact, I think you should just go and buy a few. Reason being, a set of these will be cheaper to buy than replacing the charging module on the Note 8, especially since you need to separate the screen from the body.
Any brands you’d recommend?
There’s a brand called Wsken that makes a variety of the cable and has been reviewed by a chap on YouTube called Techmoan. However several sellers sell their own variety at a lesser price, so it’s up to you.
Link to UK eBay listing I used: http://r.ebay.com/LJ6uBF
Do you have a picture of it installed in the phone?
Also does it still "fast charge"? What is the data transfer rate.?
Also why not just use the wireless charging that is built into the device.
I just put 3 wireless fast chargers around the house

curious also if these will fast charge.
Yes they fats charge. I don't have one in my note 8 as I use a wireless pad but I have them on my ipad and s2 tablet. They are fantastic, my wife has one I her galaxy S7 and her ipad. The S7 fast chargers via the cable.
We have one cable each and just flick between devices as we use them.
I've just bought another 3, 1 for the car and 1 each for the kids.
Wsken brand are the ones I use. At $18AUD each they are a bargain. No more torn cables, or dodgy ports on my devices.
No I don't work for Wsken, I tried a few other cheap ebay ones and they were rubbish

What USB spec?
Are they 3.1 (USB-PD) gen 2 superspeed capability?
I had a few of those on my Note 5 and end up with a burned Fast Charging adapter, and a defective micro USB port on my phone.
It charges extremely slowly and can't work for data transfer.
If you are not careful when plugin them, the pins make contact on the wrong place generating like a short.
PS. The cable is all white, but I end up wrapping the tip with electrical tape, because it has a green led similar to the MacBook Pro chargers, and I hate lights at night
This is one I have
https://www.dropbox.com/s/vxocgw1sulnzzw1/20171007_104607.jpg?dl=0
It's non reversible so only goes on one way. There is a north, south magnet configuration in the head and cable so if you try to put it on the wrong way they push away from each other. Just like two north pole magnets.
This is the micro usb version and it offers data transfer.
The usb c version is a different design and is actually circular.

I'm using asap's X-Connect setup. Here's their website link.
I originally got these as part of an IndieGoGo Campaign.
I use these quick connects with my Mophie Charge Force Desk Mount Stand and a Vent Mount since Mophie doesn't have a case yet for the Note 8. I'm using a regular case and stuck a Spigen Metal Plate to the back of the case. The phone/case now attach to the Mophie Charge Force Mounts and I can easily use the quick connect cables. This is especially convenient in the car!
Update: I do not recommend these magnetic quick connects IF you are working in an automotive shop or a machine shop or anywhere that you might come in contact with tiny metal particles. I had one of these on my husband's phone which he usually keeps in his pocket. He also puts lots of "other" things in his pockets like screws, washers, bolts, metal pieces, etc. Well, his magnetic end in the phone attracted all sorts of metal debris! Couldn't even magnetically attach the cable to it. I finally had to have him stop using this type of setup.
Sorry for the delayed replies. I've been away from all things electronic for a few days. I'll post some photos up of my setup when I get sorted again
Would be Great if it came in 3ft & 2ft length also

[Q] Advice for best wireless charger

best wireless charger? should you take the original samsung or is there a valid alternative? I would like to not risk ruining the USB port for prolonged use.
"Best" is always is arguable/opinionated. First one I ever bought (for my Note 5) was by Chotech. That thing overheated itself & my phone. I'm sure there are good 3rd party chargers out there now but I won't try them again (not anytime soon anyway).
I'm not a fan of the past 2 Samsung ones (the bulky one that flips up & the one that stands up). The one I prefer is the generation right before those, the round fast charge one that just lays flat & uses micro USB. It has a fan built in that turns on when using fast charge. Only thing I don't like about it is the LED is bright with the lights off but I can live with that.
Unfortunately if you want to find one you have to be careful as there was many clones of them from China (not sure if they are still cloning them) but you can find genuine ones for $15 on ebay. I have 4 of them now.
how can you tell if it is genuine for 15$? it probobly copy..

It's an old model that's not sold/manufacturered anymore so price has gone way down. There are sellers who purchased large surplus lots of these. New in box but the boxes have damage.
At the time when these were still fairly new, the clones had completely different style boxes & usually did not come with the a fast charging adapter & cable. The font on the clones also looked slightly different.
I purchased my first one back when these came out so I know what the box looks like on the genuine ones. There were 2 style boxes but look basically the same, just minor color difference. And IIRC the clones did not have fans inside them.

I also use this exact charger at home and work. It is the only "fast charger" that works with a thicker case like the Defender and Samsung Rugged protective case. You still need to find the "sweet spot" for it to charge (which gets easy to find when charging daily) with the thicker case but it does work.

Unfortunately no, the sellers I purchased from are sold out. Search for "PN920TBEGUS" & look for the boxes like the one attached. There's also a newer version that looks similar but has a blue rubber ring. I think Amazon & B&H Photo still sells them.
